MLB The Show 20 Patch 1.19 Available - Patch Notes
MLB The Show 20 game update 1.19 is available. This one adds several texture updates for the Postseason content and menus. For those that missed it last week, MLB The Show 20 patch 1.18 updated over 300 hundred action shots throughout the game.
Other than those details, there isn’t much else to go on. As always, if there is anything you’re noticing, let the community know about it.
:)
Any nuggets of info would be cool. Hopefully it's not just a few commentary lines

Players not going after balls with any urgency,
OF's not getting balls in with Urgency every time and Rizzo one of the best Fielding 1B had 3 errors in 1 game.

This year’s game is worse than last year’s game. To me it’s been a disaster. Every update ruins something about the game.

I agree 110%
They have gone downhill the past few years and it sucks cause I love baseball
I haven’t seen anything different in a couple of games

No competition = no incentive to do better.
You’re 100% correct. This is why I hope MVP Or another developer makes another baseball game. In my opinion I strongly feel like this game is catered for the arcade crowd. There’s no way so many HRs are in this game by mere accident. To me 19 is way better and a lot more sim. I play against some of my buddies online on HOF and it’s a home run derby some times. I simply don’t get it.

I have the infield and outfield errors at 6, with the throwing ones set at normal (5). Seeing no issues and it's smooth.

Sliders. Funny how they can actually "fix" the game. If someone is unwilling to set sliders some "issues" will not be resolved. :)

Sliders isn’t always feasible. When you play people online you can’t always use sliders. Also, if this is a so called sim it shouldn’t be a HR derby every game even while playing on HOF or Legend.

The issue with fielding is they have zero sense of urgency to throw the ball. MANY times they just grab the ball really slow and throw it like they’re playing catch at a park. They catch balls off the walls with zero urgency as well.

I don’t have a HR Derby every game. Could be that it’s a carryover, I don’t know but I play default Legend and homeruns are on par with where they are “realistic” in numbers.
I’ve played several games, just finished a spring training game in fact, where zero homeruns were hit.

Not trying to be captain obvious here, but if using manual throwing, are you preloading throws?

I play online all the time and lately just stopped because it’s too many HRs. I always preload my throws.

LOL I thought these were going to be on field shots during the game.
If anyone watched the streams when they revealed features. And they pulled in some broadcast guy with a lot of sport network experience to the team. I thought for sure from the sound of it that these action shots was something he would have worked on. All that talk on the stream and realistically what did we see a handful on new camera angles for broadcast presentation shots.
PS5 is go time for the team otherwise it will start to feel like we continuously get the rug pulled from underneath us each year.

Ahh...I don't play online so I can't speak to that experience.

I kinda sorta notice this too. Sometimes the animation plays out as I would expect...the OF hurries to the ball and makes a quick throw back to IF. Other times, they seem to lollygag a bit and take a second too long to get ball out of mitt to throw. The entire animation seems slow while the runner is rounding the bag or heading for home.
It may have to do with fielder rating, but it does stand out as an eyesore and breaks the immersion a little.

So many people in so many game forums getting their hopes up way too high that the next gen consoles will be the be all and end all for games. You're setting yourself up for a real let down.
Graphics and load times will be better, but bugs and other gameplay issues have nothing to do with the platform the game is on.
Game is a great as it was out of the box. Actually much better (there were some release day bugs).

So yeah.....I play on HOF.....I am not having HR deby's every game. I play all 162. Every pitch.
Not seeing any of that.
Not seeing any of that.
I play mainly online in leagues or against others online and it’s a mess against other humans on HOF or Legend. I lowered the power by one click and solid hits as well and the HRs are still too much.

We mostly talk about off-line and I think with you talking about on-line, two different creatures. So hard to relate.
So online and offline are 2 different games ?

Just from what I’ve heard about on line, but if you’re saying they aren’t then I can’t relate to the problems you’ve talking about.

Many On Twitter including myself have called this year’s game a Hr Derby. Yet, some here aren’t seeing it. I don’t even know what to say..

I would never play a game that is a home run derby. I think people forget all the sliders/levels and then the gamers actual ability with a controller. If I felt this game was off, I wouldn't be playing it. You use MANY that criticize the game and SOME here aren't seeing it. Could that be reverse? I see complaints on Facebook and shake my head because I just don't get it. Nobody really knows the expectations of each gamer.

Just my opinion, which is worth exactly nothing by the way. I think we get so many different experiences because of the variety of rosters. Folks like Countryboy are playing exclusively on carry over franchises that have been going on for years. I think these rosters are inherently better balanced and not as effected by year to year changes in the game engine outside of gameplay additions. A very large group of us here use created or fictional rosters that are technically more balanced than the default rosters.
I mean no disrespect to anybody. But the SDS rosters and continuing updates are just garbage. They are poorly balanced statistically and fundamentally just don't work well. I had all but given up on last years game until I discovered Bacons fictional rosters. I started a franchise with this years rosters and had nothing but problems. Too many trades, play felt unbalanced. Everything was extremes. I would either have no offense or I would have too much offense. But I currently am deep into 3 different franchises with user created rosters and have never played a better game of Baseball in my life.
Also a lot offline franchise players may tweak sliders to remedy gameplay to their liking. This option is not available in DD or most online modes I believe.
All of this combined would naturally give different gameplay experiences to a multitude of players, in most categories of the game.

I play a ton of DD offline (which yes, is on default settings) and a ton of franchise with my slightly tweaked sliders and a custom roster (Bacon's). I've got a good basis for compare/contrast...and there are several key issues:
1. 2020 Rosters. Issue 1 is a incredibly poor balance between high-end hitters and high-end pitchers. Bullpens are a disaster and many rotations are not much better. Now, if you want to argue "that's the era we're in", ok fine...but then we get to number 2 and I question if it's a bit overdone.
2. 2020 Rosters. Issue 2 is that there are SO many players with large numbers of bright red hot zones. Compare the number of red hot zones of high end players from the 2020 roster to even last years SDS roster. It's stark...and you hit a ball with good timing in a bright red zone, the ball is going to fly a long way.
Folks playing offline with custom rosters not built off of this year's rosters (or those using carryovers) are going to have a VASTLY different experience. Additionally, two other contributors....
3. Solid hits is too high by default. This isn't uncommon with the series; but the quality of contact is just a touch too high (which potentiates the other issues). It's also why the online guys often cry about so many line-outs. Even the slightest lowering of this can greatly improve the hit variety a ton.
4. Pitch control is too low by default. I don't care if you use classic, meter, or analog; if you roll with default settings, you've seen this a lot. You use a solid pitcher, aim a FB a ball length to the outside and it somehow drifts all the way back over to the middle zone of the plate (to get crushed). Pitchers miss pitches, we ALL understand that. We ALL understand ratings. I fundamentally question the frequency of how often pitchers with even average (~60) pitch control miss by THAT MUCH. Bumping it up a single notch curtails this while by no means making it "easy".

Would you suggest lowering juman solid hits and power by 1 or more clicks and raising the pitcher control by 1?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Now it will depend on internet who your playing when pitching behind pitcher hie pitches look which is still a visual thing.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Since you're stuck with a 2020 roster; yeah, you'd have to bite the bullet and also lower power. I'd go one click each one of those (power/solid hits/control) and I would do it for both the user and CPU sliders (I know it's a user league...BUT...I feel like it does work better when they are both married).
The other subtle change you can make is adding a pitch speed offset. So set the FB speed one notch faster than the offspeed pitch setting. It's a bit too easy to time up offspeed pitches when they're set the same IMO.

Thats what everyone wants though, pitchers to get annihilated. I'll take a good ol' pitchers duel over a softball game score, especially in the postseason.
as for patches, over/under for more patches is 1.5, I'm going under in that there is only 1 patch left for 20

Yes which is weird because I had played games after the patch without issue. Started game today and settings all reset. I don't alter sliders so I don't know if they would've been reset or not.
Very weird.
But I can't get into PSN either...so related????

I think so. Same thing happened to me today. I rebooted and it was fine after that

Quite possibly because it was also asking me to sign in to PSN. Assuming the two are connected. Took me the entire first inning (including 2 throwing errors by me which led to 4 unearned runs) but thankfully I was able to get my game back to the settings I like.

and I was a little mad that he reset my season too! My buddy called
me a little while ago and asked me why his settings might of changed.
I felt bad and apologized to my son. I have 2 games left in my season
so I was worried that everything changed. I wonder what happened?
I'm trying that now.
Frustrating.

Not sure why it would reset settings, but PSN is slow/down while they are working with ISP's to manage download traffic.
Frustrating all around, but was able to reset my settings and play ball.

Where did you sign new agreement?
Where did you sign new agreement?
I didn’t have to sign in. It did it automatically. And all my settings in the game picked up where they were before this recent PSN incident. Favorite team, camera angles etc. were just as they’ve been all season. Weird.

On the PS4 main menu, click up and go to your profile and see if that triggers the new agreement to pop up. At least that’s how I did it last night.
It just popped up the agreement for me to read and accept. If it's not letting you do it inside The Show, maybe try opening the PSN store and see if it prompts you there?

I’ve been saying it for years... in my opinion, 2 versions of the game should be released. Sell an offline franchise version for $29.99 or even $34.99 and an online version for the same price. If a customer wants both, they can buy both. The producers can program the games and not have any bugs or glitches due to both versions not being on the same disc and interfering with each other.
The customers win and Sony still makes their profits with a more reliable product.

Producing two different versions isn’t going to rid the games of bugs and glitches.
And Sony isn’t going to compete with themselves and essentially cut their bottom line by allowing customers to buy one versus the other.

absotutely. as complex as games are today, I can't imagine there are any games bugfree or without need of post-release patch(s)
The development methodology today is iteration...release...fix....release...fix. The waterfall methodology has given way to Agile approach which incorporates this type of thinking.
You'll see this not only with many/all games being released, but also business software. Schedules are not being pushed to the right much anymore unless absolutely necessary. We will continue to see many more "patches" in all software, but especially sports games which appear to be fairly complex in nature.

All the more reason to quit buying new games. Everything goes on sale pretty quickly nowadays. So why pay $60 for a game. Wait 3 months and you will have a patched, hopefully finished and fixed game for half the money. Especially sports games. There is so little change from year to year besides Rosters. It truly seems insane to keep paying full price.
I just make sure I put a dollar and a quarter a week into my Show jar, come March I'm ready to roll
Sport dev cycles are just too short to make radical changes/improvements while people do expect it every year and get disappointed. Especially since SDS isn’t really big compared to the amount of people that work on NBA 2K, Madden or FIFA.

Well, I guess they should charge for betas then. I know my days of paying full price for games is over.
Sadly the best time to buy sports games now is about 3 to 4 months before the next years version comes out. That’s the only way you’re going to get the completed version of the game.
