EA has revealed their first Madden NFL 19 trailer. Make sure to check it out and post your thoughts. Very cool to see Shaquem Griffin with one hand.

  1. That looked horrible.... player models, lighting, etc, etc. that was the worst trailer let down in all my years waiting for madden ..... it seems cartoonish and
    Just plain washed out.
There's a certain grittiness to the overall visual redesign. I'm undecided if I like.
I do like the (somewhat exaggerated) environmental weather effects.
    That's all they are showing?
What a big let down that was and as I figured it did not even look that good :(
Hopefully actual game play will be much better.
Looked terrible and why was it so dark? Felt like i was watching a bootleg copy. Animations looked strange and why they run like androids...smh
That looked so strange. I don’t base too much on trailers but, that trailer wasn’t good at all. Lol. Odd animations and running. Looked less life like than Madden 18.

Well RPM doesn't look that different from 18.

Thats not true. The Barkley running stride and the Mayfield scramble styles looked much different. Its just the Barkley stride looked too upright and honestly just bad.
Is this all we're getting from EA play today? Teasing that it's on PC, spending 5 minutes trash-talking about online competitive, and then a trailer with pretty strange looking animations?
Gameplay will still look nothing like that...all cinematic no real gameplay. Their trailers are also close ups and over exaggerated

Also, good on EA for making Griffin's model anatomically accurate.

I'm surprised they had time to do that when they were working so hard to get that horse motion capped for barkley's running animation and come up with a catchy phrase like RPM to distract us from how awful the game looks.
I despise these Madden sizzle trailers. Every year with the slow motion, sped up, slow motion dramatic bull****. Still no real idea how the players move or animate after that reveal. Maddens marketing team needs to take 2 weeks off and then quit

I know a gif isn't as smooth and fluid as the video, but damn it looks like Barkley somewhat teleports with each stride.

"game engine footage" its not even real gameplay and it looks bad. this may be a rough year

I really want to know how far they took this. The technical challenges of making a one-handed football player work in a game which has rigidly assumed that all football players have two hands are pretty staggering.
For example, all two-handed and left-hand-only catch animations have to get thrown out the window.
I don't know why they have to due these cinematic style trailers. The game isn't a movie. If you want to show off the game and get people excited, show it from broadcast views. Blur the lines between game and reality if you're going to sizzle reel us.

Some good questions there that I hadn't considered. How will he gather a loose ball, bat a ball out of the air, what if you make him a TE, etc...
I don’t nitpick, but why does B. Mayfield look exactly the same size as Watt?
Will have to see what that Running Style looks like from Maddens notorious behind the back view.
Loved the Push the pile into the jersey reach grab of the RB, but again, we don’t play the game from such close views, so...

I have heard that it can look goofy at times when he picks off a ball.

You've been saying this year's game is gonna be legit and bring a lot of things that the community wants. Did you know it looked this awful? Or is this not what it looks like?

That trailer isnt for US though.

It fine. Don’t draw any conclusions from the trailer just wait until you see in game footage.

I honestly can't believe they even published it looking like though. It's obviously is a hype trailer, but it looked awful. At least make the cuts, uniforms, mechanics, etc. look good. That looked lazy

Don’t come in here with logic !
Lol. Yup. I should never expect their marketing trailers to change, but I suppose every year, I think, ‘maybe they’ll actually show some actual gameplay,’ like, they could show the stuff they show, but if they interlaced it with the actual gameplay so u could see it flow together, that would be the best of both worlds. Now, whether they could even do that is prob the question. Lol. Meaning, those ‘game engine footage’ plays, do those actually happen that way in game or not? Just cgi?
Because, as much as people want to complain about the overall animations, the running actually looked ‘grounded’ to me, meaning he didn’t look like he was ‘sliding’, ‘floating’, or ‘skating’.
And, if the animations play out during gameplay, I saw a nice slight face mask broken tackle and a run through tackle through 2 defenders that looked good. And, the juke with one hand out. So, I saw some good things, but again, u never know what’s in the actual gameplay.
They’re never going to show gameplay in these first trailers. They’ve been doing this nonsense for so long, now. Lol.

looks wayyyy better than the trailer

Which is wild because outside of some minor RPM stuff it looks EXACTLY like M18. All they had to do to get us hyped was release one of the worst trailers of all time so that we are thankful that the graphics are the same as last year.
The cinematic style of the graphics are quite dark and really overdone. I’m holding out hope this can be mitigated in visual settings, or this is purely a sizzle trailer effect, but honestly don’t know why they would settle on this style.
Secondly, I’m looking forward to seeing running animations from the behind the player camera angle. It looked awkward from the Barkley horizontal camera but no one is playing at that angle either.
Overall, this game needs to offer a lot of additions and improvements for me to consider the purchase this year. I really want them to, but we’ll see.

Ok after seeing the non trailer gameplay footage I feel a lot better the running animation still isn't perfect but it is better or at least going in a good direction. But those new Titan uniforms are horrible.

I don't like when they go with an artistic broad stroke with the look. Last year looked great, and this reminds me of the year they made the whole game blue.

I'm just speaking in general as a personal preference. I feel it would go over better with casuals as well.. Just my opinion and preference.

    Some non trailer gameplay.
    RPM for all 22 confirmed.

Yeah, that looks much better. I did notice the animation difference in the different build of running backs. And the cinematic effect isn’t all that present from what I can tell - just grittier and a more shadows than last year.
On a side note, I hope my Jaguar’s new uniforms look better in game day than they do in Madden. The black needs to be flatter and less shine.
I like that the trailer shows players taking big hits and holding onto the ball...I worry that there are too many ball carriers holding onto the ball with one hand during hits. Just doesn't look good.
Player long sleeves still look stiff. I am hoping to see more fabric movement such as that shown in FIFA 18.
The hit on RB Burkhead, where he fumbles the ball - I do like that it was a helmet on the ball that caused the fumble.
I am so glad this video was linked here. When I saw the trailer I thought it looked incredibly poor which is bizarre since you'd think the trailer is the one thing you'd be sure to polish, but I guess knowing it's at E3 they just wanted to be fancy for a public audience. Nonetheless, the video showing the RPM looked far better... gotta see how it feels / plays but it looks far more promising.
I've been playing video game football since NFL 2k on Dreamcast. Ive played and owned every Madden game since Madden 06 and I have to totally disagree with the majority here - I think the trailer looked better than any Madden before it! Madden 18 damn near looks that good already (if you have an XBOX One X on a 4k hdr tv) so I am not surprised by the awesome graphics in the new trailer.
That is clearly gameplay in the trailer, its from replay angles up close, which is not what we see during live gameplay, but it is gameplay nonetheless. I thought the lighting was excellent considering night games and bad weather etc. I'm enjoying the "grittier" look. I also see a clear improvement in the running compared to years past as well, but hey that's just me.
Personally, I'm stoked for this game and am excited to see more of it.

lightning looked good, but running looked like some galloping horse kinda trot, if they trot like that its gonna be weird lol, ea access.... trial...nuff said.

Maybe he pulled a hammy. Lol.

I really don't like the cinematic look of the lighting and graphics. It looks too much like a football movie for me. I'd rather it resemble how the game looks on television but, I'll reserve total judgement until I see it in person.
This could be a good sign! Normally, the trailers look good and the game not so good.  Now the trailer looks crazy with those running animations,  maybe the game will be better!
While I didn't like the CGI look and feel and even tho it said in-game engine, it was still hard not to think back to the RGIII trailer BUT I actually thought 8t was legit in-game because it's hard to believe EA would do that BS again, among other reasons why. Then I see the vid below which confirmed this seems to be legit

So is no one mentioning about Baker Mayfield just trucking a linebacker like it was nothing? lol

I was about to post the same thing. Same old crap with that animation, and of course a back-foot throw that winds up being right on the money.
I try and not get too worked up over trailers, but oh boy, this did not look very good nor give me any confidence that this game will be any good.
the trailer looks silly but that gamechanger video about the RPM and running controls looked nice. its weird because trailers typically make the game look better then it is but this one makes it look much worse then it actually is.
The Seattle Seahawks stadium error still needs to be fixed. The stadium got some updates that I see from the trailer, but they still missed this field error. Same error as Madden 18 where the teams on the sideline and midfield logo are flipped upside down. When the camera is in broadcast view, the away team should be at the top of the screen while the Seahawks are on the bottom. Also the midfield logo in the trailer is flipped upside down and facing the wrong way. It was correct in the previous Madden games before 18. Hope it gets fixed.

Saquon only has eye black under his left eye.. Just like in real Life.

If you pause the trailer @7:07 you see the same thing. For some reason I can't post a pic on my phone.

Hahaha, I just posted a pic from the trailer in the screen shot thread about that

The time window for my response might be a little outdated but honestly how long do we have to be around to realize that Madden does this. They've been doing this since at least 2005. And every time they released trailers it is simply always for theatrical viewing not necessarily gameplay authentic views true to what the actual game is. The very gritty and dark theme to multiple scenes in the trailer is literally just a cinematic effect. This would be something that would be more likely to be in The Longshot cutscenes rather than actual gameplay. In my opinion there's nothing to worry about as far as what I'm talking about here.

As far as the baker Mayfield pass goes, you never see the ending of the play so really you can't tell if it was right on the money. Secondly by the looks of everything that happens on the field it looks to be less than a 30-yard pass which maker has plenty of the arm talent for I mean for instance Carson Wentz threw a ball 47 yards and Air practically horizontal falling to the ground while getting hit after previously being tripped up. That throw was also on the money to Nelson agholor. Now the truck that was kind of funny but literally it's just a trailer and Madden always likes to put things that are kind of out of the realm of reality into their trailers for thrilled tactic

I have no complaints about the graphics. Of course, I also am old enough to remember when football video games looked like this:

Older gamers are more tolerant to graphics and bugs. There was a time when you bought a game and that was it. No update or patches. You either found a way to enjoy it or not.
We're so spoiled these days that most seem to rather whine and complain until things go their way rather than appreciating the game for what it is and enjoying it.

In this case whining and complaining is how we get what we want, in some cases we do it constructively, and other cases it's a little obnoxious (but also called for in some cases) Either way you can't argue that it works, developers listen and sooner or later we get things we want. Im not a believer in the whole "entitled consumer" argument.

Not to mention these games aren't free. I show my appreciation with my money. They show theirs by improving their product. It's not like we can go and buy another NFL game.
For something unimportant like video games, nah, obnoxiousness is never called for. Don't buy it. Having no other options is not a valid excuse for being an ahole about something so trivial.

I agree. There's a way to do things. Some people feel like anonymity gives them a right to say whatever they want. It goes both ways though, the way some people get so offended, you'd think they helped make the game. If you enjoy it, enjoy it.
