Madden NFL 19 Patch 1.20 Available - Issue with Offensive Players Falling Forward Too Often is Being Investigated

Madden NFL 19 game update 1.20 is available now, addressing some desync issues on hot routes and two-minute warnings, along with a fix for solo challenges. Check out the patch notes below.

  • Desyncs: Fix for a Hot Route desync and Two-minute warning softlock desync.
    • DEV NOTE: With our increased logging/tracking from the February update, we will continue to address future stability issues.
  • Solo Challenges: Fix for solos challenges that used end conditions (If the user or CPU scores on a failed attempt, then the user restarts, the user or CPU will only have one play on the next attempt).

Of note, the team is aware of the issue with offensive players falling forward too often, when momentum, more often than not, is on the defensive side of the ball. They are investigating how to address it.

If you’re not aware of the issue, check out the video from SimFBallCritic below and read the comments from Madden NFL 19 patch 1.19, released last week.

  1. Lol, I've actually been winning some games on All-Madden default with this fall forward...glitch, or feature, or whatever you decide to call it.
I guess I better play as much as I can before this new patch comes before I start on my losing streak again.
Really? this is actually something that makes the game better imo. its wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more realistic than the stupid *** tackle animation that defenders always seem to be able to knock the ballcarrier back.
fyi madden, that animation is only realistic if the players arent moving fast. the animation is unrealistic as **** and by far the most common tackling animation. tbh if they just removed that animation, there is so much variation in other animations, that every tackle would look smooth
I feel like the animations are a little unrealistic with the falling forward issue but I find it more fulfilling than being stopped directly in my tracks by a D-back when I am using Saquan Barkeley. I feel like they are prepping for next year with the concept but they are on the right track. I found myself getting stopped at the goal line a lot more than I should have. There have been a couple times when I was running backwards and got hit but still animated forward. I do like the forward momentum change though.
While this looks awful, overall its a huge improvement. For those of use who like to run the ball it has been killer for the last several maddens that HBs have absolutely no clue how to get extra yards on contact without breaking the tackle entirely. Way too many times has a DT sliding off his block knocked my HB backwards, an LB in from the side drops him like a sack of rocks, or a CB with no momentum peeling off his WR makes my HB look like some 5th grade kid. You are dead on that physics including height and weight need to be a part of the game, which madden has yet to consider implementing.
Yes, but it is triggering almost automatically, regardless of the relative size and momentum of the players, and too often falling against the tackler even when the tackler is to the side of or behind the ball carrier.

THIS. They need to make it relative to the size, momentum and speed of the player. Sometimes they even grab the player and pull them forward 3-4 yards, it just looks odd to me.
It's not an every play thing, but it happens far too much and just looks wonky because it's animation driven.
Hopefully they sort it out because I do like being able to feel like I can get those 3rd and inches with my power back and a good head of steam into the OL.

I think the trouble is that Madden isn't based on a physics driven set up, so, any short term fix that is applied will feel out of place.

Not my experience at all. DBs are way more likely to get the animation than LBs who are more likely than DL. Defenders (either AI or user) who take better pursuit angles won't get the animation as often. Strafing up before you go in for the tackle can be the difference between stopping them where they stand or giving up another 3-4.
I play on default settings, so if you have altered sliders that could be the difference.

True... I do like they are trying to fix it though. Heck I only had like 50 yards rushing against the CPU last night, even with the latest patch so it must not be that OP.
The animations just look out of place at times.

Yeah it needs tweaking. I do have a problem with it when Baker Mayfield runs into my MLB twice on scrambles and gets 3-4 extra yards. Didn't even try to slide.

There also seems to be that odd looking tackle where they pull the ball carrier to the side. Some of the tackles in general defy what's expected.
If you have the disk, erase everything Madden (game/profile), redownload game “Offline”, set up a new profile, stay offline!!!
    Should be: 44.4GB
    Version: 1.0.0.5
Night and day as far as gameplay.

Is that when the new patch is supposed to drop?

Kraelo the community manager said a few days ago that they are targeting the second half of next week(this week coming up) for an update. If they miss that window I expect that a lot of people will totally flip out so I expect them to make it. Now if them rushing this patch out breaks something else, we'll have to see.

Yea as much as I want this forward these forward progression animations patched I'm almost afraid of what else they will break in the process.

Or no forward progress at all.
I agree with edaddy, careful what you wish for, I'd rather not go back to prior to what we experienced before this, tackles in the backfield with no forward momentum or throwing all the time on 3rd and short for fear of blowing up in the backfield.
True they do seem to screw sometimh else up but this does need a fix. When QBs going backward from a DL then get sacked they lunge forward four yards ahead with getting hit in the side or more backside when in reality they would get plowed.
As others have said, no idea how this got cleared to go ahead and patch it. Must not have been tested very long.

I don't know how they tested it at all and approved the patch to go live. I feel like most people noticed in the first game they played just like I did. I played a guy last night who couldn't get much going in the pass game against me so he just decided to spread the field with a 4 or 5 wide formation pass play then take off running. Well apparantly my opponent's QB was the second coming of Mike Alstott and Jerome Bettis combined. Some plays he would push 2 bigger defenders at a time for 3-5 more yards. Luckily I held on for the win but frustrating.
Now it's not that ridiculous every game, I do have games where I only get a few weird animations where a ball carriers momentum was carrying them away from the hit but somehow they push forward for a couple of yards. I don't know if anyone else is noticing this but it seems that when the forward progress animation triggers during a sack the play isn't recorded as a sack for the defender that brought him down.
I've been hearing a lot about this fall forward thing...
Wouldn't it be cool if whether a player falls forward or not takes into effect weight, speed, and direction??

I felt like the game played really well without this.
However, I can easily live with it. What I simply cannot live with is the stat bug that accompanies it. My leading tacklers have gone from around 9-15 per game to like 6-7. Unacceptable.

Exactly why except for the couple of games a week I have to play for my online 32 user league I am going to take a break from Madden and put down my offline franchises for a while. I'm going to get more in to NBA 2k for a little bit.
