Madden NFL 19 Patch 1.19 Available - Patch Notes Here

Madden NFL 19 game update 1.19 has arrived, weighing in at just over 1GB, featuring some updates, fixes and tuning, specific for gameplay.

Check out the patch notes below and let us know what you’re seeing.

General Stability improvements

  • Additional logging to track online desyncs
  • DEV NOTE: While our internal tracking shows that online desyncs are occurring at a very low rate when looking across all online play, we realize that any desyncs impacting higher level online competitions have a big impact on play-experience. We’re continuing to work to drive down the rate, especially focusing on competitive formats and this tracking will help us identify the causes.

Gameplay Updates

Tuning

  • Fumble risk added to ball carriers when using the spin move when hit in the back with a successful hit-stick tackle
  • Addressed an exploit allowing users to avoid the Aggressive Pass Rush coach adjustment penalty by repeatedly shifting the defensive line back & forth in pre-play; defenders can now jump offsides while shifting
  • Additional context added to match-up formula for catches in traffic; logic added for taking into account additional defenders who are within the proximity to either the receiver or the catch point.
  • DEV NOTE: This change will reduce the effectiveness of Aggressive Catches in traffic by respecting the impact of nearby defenders relative to both the receiver and the catch point.
  • Decreased the facing-angle threshold for the strafe animation added in a previous update to fix a manual Spy blitz exploit
  • DEV NOTE: This change will make it less likely that a user will get into a strafe state when trying to cover a pass or pursue a ball carrier, but will still force the defender to strafe if trying to blitz the QB from a Spy or Zone coverage assignment

Special Teams

  • Fixed an issue preventing touchdowns from always being awarded on fake punts and fake field goals when the snap receiver was the one who scored the touchdown
  • DEV NOTE: This fix also fixes issues PS4 players have encountered in Skills Trainer regarding touchdowns not always being awarded correctly.

Catching

  • Fixed an issue that could sometimes result in a player not being ruled down correctly when going to the ground after a catch in traffic
  • DEV NOTE: While this will fix the most common occurrences of the bug, we have identified one edge case that is still possible to hit, but far more rare. We are continuing to work on a fix for that edge case and will have that resolved very soon as well.

Pass Coverage

  • Made additional improvements to Cover 4 Quarters Trips logic in order to better defend certain pass route combinations.
  • Addressed a press animation issue with the Curl Flat defender in Cover 3 which would occasionally lead to that defender not properly carrying out his pass coverage assignment

  1. Ok, look , i do not play the cpu , i play in an online league .
"Fumble risk added to ball carriers when using the spin move when hit in the back with a successful hit-stick tackle"
You can not hitstick someone when they do a spin move. Your defender will for sure go flying thru the air away from the runner due to it being forced by the spin animation. I dont care if the runner has 75 spin , does not matter if you are pressing the correct direction to make the tackle. The spin sends you off into space.
The only way to even sometimes tackle someone who spins, is with conservative tackle and even then half the time it does not work (again despite runners spin attribute).
Why can they not simply listen to the community and tune down the spin move. A large majority of people that i have seen, have been asking for this all year. But instead this is their " fix" ?
And people wonder why many doubt their ability to fix gameplay ( even if given the green light by suits). Im simply blown away at how they overthink things.
Pass blocking not fixed or improved? One only has to watch some good rated OL not even trying to help out on stunts and just getting whipped by defenders.
I guess relocation won't get fixed till 2020....if we are lucky.
Appreciate the efforts but some things been mentioned all year or for two years now aren't getting any attention.
Way too many blocked FGs and XPs too.

Cool addition. The fact that it's almost March and football has been over for basically a month and they're still updating the game is awesome. Can't expect any major changes at this point but it's great to see they're still improving the game.

Another nice thing on PC is you can limit the number of block occurrences per game.
No mention of the WR Screen getting fixed, where after they catch the ball you're unable to move and they're stuck in a stationary position for a moment.
I've yet to try this patch yet, but I'll give Madden one more shot for the year.
At this point, I really wish I had a gaming PC lol

Stunts may be the wrong word but when a defender moves at all to the side a OC or OG for example won't move with them and lets them go right past. You know what I mean, stunts or not. It's just bad. My OL are not rated low and there are times I get sacked before I set up for a slant.
Got sacked before I could hand the ball off on a outside run before.

It's a great addition and it was sorely needed. As howaboutdat stated you can eliminate your fumble risk by spinning into contact. If you make the defender miss that's great, and if you end up hit in the back there is zero chance of a fumble.
Unfortunately, the OP ball carrier moves aren't going anywhere. This is one of the few areas of the game where MUT does leave its fingerprints on "regular" play, as MUT peddles upgrades which offer defenders immunity from being spun/juked out.
Thankfully, the problem is 100% fixable with roster edits. The top spin threshold is 88 SPM, and the top juke move threshold is at 90 JUK. AGI also determines how quickly the ball carrier move animation completes, and the top threshold there is also 90.

^^^ Two actions I am completely tired of seeing is every defending hit sticking, and every ball carrier being able to spin like Barry Sanders.

Well another Madden tournament coming up in 2 weeks, so that is why they still working on the game. Money on the line. If they weren't having these tournaments, they would have been stopped these updates back in December.

Playing my first game now, and the fix to defenders auto-strafing when starting too close to the LOS is very nice.

Do you normally play with auto-strafe "on"?

Do you normally play with auto-strafe "on"?

No, but it could be triggered anyway if your user player is too close to the LOS at the snap. There were some insane manual pass rushes that showed up after one of the early patches, and that was the fix.

The fact we have to go back to barry sanders as an example tells you all you need to know about the “spin move”. That **** is garbage to me

They would have just fixed it in the next game like they use to do before the competitive scene. What the competitive scene is really doing is allowing them to perfect it before the next game comes out. Instead of having it fixed in the next game and having to do 2 or 3 patches to perfect it like they use to do before.
I always viewed the competitive scene as a live trial run for improvements that is going to be featured in next year's game. Being that there is big money on the line, they are quicker to get things ironed out
    Couple observations:
    1. Game overall speed (normal) seem to have been slowed down a touch
    2. Momentum on ball carriers seem to been upped, but the draw back to that has been weird “carry the tacklers animation” almost like there isn’t enough of these type of animations.
    3. C4 still has issues with trips
    4. Very limited observation on this, but outside release by WR/CB interact “MAY” have finally been adjusted..again limited observation
    5. Both CPU and HUM pass rush has seemed to been tuned down
    6. EA’s new foot planting system has again been toned down to almost off now
Now my observation are with modified sliders on All Madden and I’m exclusively an Coach Mode player

Seeing the same. First game, Duke Johnson is the opposing RB, and every single tackle on him so far has been a wrap-up job that results in him carrying the tackler forward for another yard or two as he's going down.
    tg88forHOF
Also...I just heard new Gaudin/Davis lines in franchise for the first time in a long, long time.

How is this possible? they can add new commentary by these guys but they wont add saying the two relocation franchises cities that have been said wrong now the past two Maddens?

Seeing this as well. Playing against an RB with 62 strength and 60 trucking and he is falling forward on every run. My QB even got sack while standing stationary in the pocket and he fell forward for a few yards. The update must have messed something up. Hopefully they address it.
Anyone else notice losing all timeouts in CFM? Happened to me when resuming a game that I had saved. Haven't finished my game to test whether or not it happens in other situations or if it happens like this every time.
What the hell did EA screw up this time.. Every running back gets an extra 2 too 4 yds on one on one tackles. It looks and feels ridiculous. Completely changes the game. It's as though a a 150 lb RB can carry a 300 DT on his back. Every one on one head to head tackle is a grab, spin and throw him forward like a sling shot.
It's the same thing with receivers. DB and CB seem to wait for the catch and then hesitate and gently hit the receiver. It seems as though EA has completely toned down the big hits for defenders by adjusting the HIT STICK for the OL players.
Once again, the patch was made to compensate the OL crowd and ignore and mess up the OFF LINE franchise players. This is immediately noticeable and sticks out like a bright strobe light in a dark alley.
There is no slider or setting that can fix this. I have tried increasing tackling, reducing run blocking. The only thing that might work is to reduce the strength of every RB. Actually that don't work either.
I truly wish I wouldn't have DL this garbage patch. Months and months of slider work just to have this crap patch ruin everything I have accomplished.. THANKS EA for nothing.. Does anyone from EA even pretend to test this crap before they put it out. ??? Yes, I am PO'd and i have every right to be. Months of work to make a broken game playable just to have it screwed up for no dam reason..

Definitely seeing 2, 3, and 4. I will test out some adjustments to tackling to see if I can get rid of some of the wonkiness that is there now.
I don't mind the increased momentum with ball carriers - I felt in one on one situations defenders were too often stopping a ball carrier in their tracks. I think more often than not the ball carrier should fall forward.
However it often produces some strange outcomes, and I don't think the momentum tackles are actually considering previous momentum - they just seem to go in the direction the defender and/or ball carrier were facing, depending on the situation, which looks very jarring at times.

They do consider previous momentum in at least some situations...I saw at least two while playing tonight. The first was on a flat pass to a TE (so a relatively heavy receiver with decent STR), where the TE had caught it and established, but hadn't turned upfield yet. The other was a read-option keeper where I had to bounce my QB outside, and he got hit while moving parallel to the LOS.
In both cases, they got the "hip jab, knock your feet out from under you" tackle animation, and the runners didn't gain the extra yard or two the other animations were getting.

"For the competitive crowd" - there fixed it for ya.
Gets old hearing about online guys as if everyone who plays online is a comp person. There are ton of sim leagues online with lots of guys playing in them. We all want the same things for the most part. We want simulation football.
Side note, as others mentioned , i too noticed in my game last night the ball carriers "falling forward" if you will when being tackled alot. Also spin move still works like a charm and not 1 fumble from it in my game. I had a few instances ( one i recall distinctly ) was on a wr screen pass , my guy caught the ball then froze for a second and i could not move him. I got lucky no one was near him or i woulda been going for a loss due to a bug.(Go to 16:20 minute mark )
Also the play before that, i executed a spin move with fournette who is only 83 spin attribute and the user tried to this stick him, the defender was LE draft gen player who is 90 overall with 93 tackle(but atttributes matter in sim mode right?).... you can see the results are no different than before. He had him lined up perfectly .
Outside of that, seemed to be the same ol madden.

I just play offline franchise and to be honest I much prefer this to what we had before, which was every runner getting blown up no matter how big the tackler was and how much momentum the runner had. For the most part a runner moving forward with momentum should pick up one or two more yards I would think. The suction tackling doesn't seem to look as bad but I haven't played enough to be sure.
I haven't tried the title update yet, so, I don't have an look see opinion.
All I know is that whenever there was a tackle, the runner with the ball went down immediately. On 3rd and short, I would pass all the time to get the first down because I know the CPU blows up run plays on 3rd and short, normally. If the momentum is carrying them forward, this should be a win for sim players, user vs cpu.

I found this too and it drove me crazy, I've only played two games but I've found it to be an improvement for this reason. I also found the previous suction, stop the runner in his tracks, tackling animations looked horrible as well. I hope it stays like this.

I should have been more Specific in my observation early..I do like that Momentum is upped..the issue which I should have clarified more is, there just doesn’t seem to be enough animations to go with it..the “outcome” normally fits, but the way it plays out is not pretty at all..however I agree this is better then ball carriers momentum stop 80% of the time

If it worked like that it would be great, but it's just an automatic fall forward regardless of momentum. A couple things I saw in one game:
  2. My QB was stationary in the pocket, got hit from the blind side by an unblocked LB and somehow pulled the defender forward for a couple yards. Imagine the Mike Bercovici play from opening weekend of AAF only instead of him losing his helmet he magically pulled the defender forward...
  3. I threw a corner route to my TE. He caught the ball with the feet in bounds animation so he was very vulnerable. He got hit by the safety who was sprinting downfield at him and somehow my TE pushed him over for 3-4 yards. My TE should've gotten blown up and the ball probably should've been dislodged and somehow I got extra yards.
  4. I hit an RB who had strength and trucking in the low 60's right when he caught a swing pass (before he turned up field) with my LB and he pushed me over for 2 yards.

I like the momentum idea and it would be sweet if it worked that way, but this is acting way more like a bug than a design choice. It happens on nearly every play after the patch.

  9. I think the problem goes back to the fact that the tackling this year seems to be pre-determined canned animations that the players just get sucked into. A lot of tackles make no sense at all based on the direction the players are running, etc. I thought 18 did a much better job of tackling, maybe they had to change things for the horribly implemented RPM system.
Call me crazy and call me weird but I like the update and the extra umff from the RB....I like the wrap up tackles and I'm seeing better coverage from the DB's...
I'm actually having fun and it feels like football to me not perfect but damm good!!

Looks like things we see on every Sunday. I see bad tackling in the NFL every week. If that happens every time now you got something. I havent played much since the new update. Kinda just did training as im in preseason.

lol my TE had his feet set and was doing the fade out of bounds animation and then the defender coming up triggered forward momentum that wasn't there... haha that had nothing to do with bad tackling.
Strictly an offline player and I’m fairly content with the way the game was. I’m passing on this patch. The game isn’t great but it’s the best Madden I’ve played in awhile. Not saying much. I may even just stick with it next year. No need to buy a new game unless there are big changes.
Sent from my iPhone using Operation Sports
I've played in my All-Madden CFM and the tackling seems to have changed. It seems that every tackle now goes for an extra 2 - 4 yards. Maybe it's the back but I'll keep an eye on it.
To those of you that like the new RB momentum, God bless you and enjoy. I simply hate it and the guys in my league hate it. I wouldn't mind if it were a yard or so, but it's two 3 and sometimes 4 yds, It looks completely ridiculous.
I am talking offline Cpu vs CPU.. or PTM games. The big hit is completely gone. Haven't seen even one dead head to head tackle stopping the RB in his tracks. I have even seen two LB's hit Johnson head on and he still fell forward for two yds, The only time I see a stopped tackle is when hit from the side.
I guess it might be fun for thumb jockeys but for CPU vs CPU or PTM players. It sucks big time. Well at-least for myself and our league. After months of work we had the game playing exactly like we wanted it to, or the best that it could for our style.
I wouldn't mind if I could fix it with sliders, or even adjust it a little. But changing tackling just stops them from breaking tackles. Changing RB does not help.. I even reduced the RB trucking and strength to 0 and it did nothing.. Still fell forward. Glad you all enjoy it.. Thank God BB season is just a month away....
Yes.. I wish I could delete this last patch. But my son left the PS in rest mode which I never do and the patch automatically DL and installed.. If anyone knows how to take it out, Please advise. But I don't think it can be done.. Was loving this game until this patch.

It doesn’t look realistic at all, imo, however. I saw it on both sides of the ball, too. My RB and the cpu RB. With slider adjustments, I was actually pretty happy with tackling and thought it was realistic looking enough. I saw wrapups, I saw hit sticks, and I saw some RBs stopped at LOS, and I saw them carry D players sometimes.
Now, I fell like every single rb tackled is forcing an animation forwards and it really looks bad, imo. I should’ve saved a video to display this perfectly. It was a cpu wr, not a rb, but same thing. He caught the ball about 5 yards shy of first time. He got hit on the side, first, and should’ve fallen out of bounds. Instead, he got a ‘carry the defender’ animation and started to fall forward in a very unrealistic looking animation. He then got hit by another tackler, and instead of going down instantly (which really is what should’ve happened based on the fact he was already going down), he got ANOTHER ‘carry the defender’ forward, was about to go down 1 yard short of first down, and then got hit by ANOTHER defender, lol, and fell forward and gained the first down. It really looked awful.
To be clear, I’ve played with lower tackle slider for both human and cpu because I think tackling OOTB was OP with too many hard hits. So, I’m going to play with possibly raising tackle sliders up a tick or 2, and see if I can glitch this out. But, it’s disappointing to hear others saying this is also what they are seeing, because it means I may not be able to slider it out. It’s almost as if they added ‘fall forward’ as a trait to all offensive players or something.
And, while this may favor the cpu a little more than the user, and therefore, might make things a little more difficult, the animations triggered are truly jarring from a realism perspective. They just don’t look correct based on momentum and whatnot. And, again, while madden isn’t truly physics based and there are plenty of animation issues and tackling issues, I had the game looking pretty decent, and thought the momentum/physics looked ok. These ‘fall forward’ tackles when getting lit up from the side of front that should be ‘fall backwards/sideways’ animations really do look jarring to me.

I'm still frustrated with the design choice of the number of QB Fumbles to punish a player as soon as their hit when about to throw or in the motion of throwing the ball.
It's not realistic to the NFL. All the time I see QB's throw the ball as soon as their hit, or try to throw it past the LOS near a receiver to not get an intentional grounding penalty called on them, or simply just be an incomplete pass.
I understand the Comp crowd wants punishable design choices in the game, to show better stick skills than other players, but give me a break. This is what the different gameplay modes were supposed to differ from one another, this has continued to ruin my experience of playing this game. It is way to frustrating.
After playing today I see the RB falling forward for extra yards also. Don't mind it if it happened here and there but it happens a lot. A good mix would be best as RBs used to get stopped on the spot alot if times before the patch.
Not that annoying though,it happens on both sides, just need a 50/50 mix of it.

Before the patch. with the right slider settings, it was a great mix. Strong defensive players could stop an ave RB or receiver in his tracks. Great RB's or receivers could break tackles and get that extra yd or two. Ave RB's or receivers against ave defenders was a toss up.
Now you could have RB Barney Fife slamming in too Goliath and still fall forward for 3 yds. It completely takes away the difference between having great defenders or scrubs. You get the same result. Just totally ridiculous. It's more like wrestling, wrap him up and then toss him forward or through the ropes.
You could have a Defensive line and LB's all rated 99 and RB's in there 60's and they will still fall forward like the defender is made of balsa-wood.
Happened 15 times in the game I just played . Receiver momentum going one way and tackle animation takes it another way

I had one on a kick return where I juked back away from the defender but when the tackle animation started my returner fell forward for another 3 yards.
I've seen a few times where, instead of a successful gang tackle for no more yardage, the first defender tries to bring down the ball carrier by pulling him forward, right into the grasp of the 2nd defender, who does the same thing. Effectively 2x the momentum yardage.
    Hrmm.
I finished up the second half of a user vs cpu game I had going.
Of all the plays between the cpu and me, there was 50/50 momentum plays, not every play like some people were reporting, at least on my end.
I will agree with others it not the prettiest thing in the world to look at when it triggers.
Leading up to this latest patch, I felt the Madden team did a good job of addressing some of the most glaring issues with the game. Although it was frustrating to continue to experience ongoing annoying bugs, every change they made with regards to an issue succeeded in improving that issue. However, the tackle and momentum animations, that they had already improved upon previously, have taken a giant step backwards with this latest patch.
Some of the forward progress by the ball carrier appears properly animated, as sometimes when attempting to make a tackle, the receiver half-spins and falls forward for an extra yard. It looks quite natural. However, on many occasions, as soon as the tackle animation triggers, I have seen both ball carrier and defender literally appear as if they are instantaneously and completely reversing momentum. I am also seeing warp and suction blocking on the line as well, whereas before I saw very little.
Not sure why the Madden team felt this part of the game needed further attention or if this was an unintended result of patching another area of the game. While these animations do not trigger all the time, it's enough to make a significant impact on the simulation aspect of the experience. I hope this is immediately addressed.

looks like the canned animation and magneticism problem. it's an annoying aspect of madden that has been with us since we made teh move to next gen. I Feel it actually got worse from 17 to 19. 19 being the worst. I thought 17 was making good strides

I haven't played in a while so I thought I would fire it up to see what people are seeing..To be honest I am seeing mostly contextual based falling animations..Those quirky tackles have been in the game since it came out...I would rather have this than have a 160 lb db constantly blow up my Power RB...I like it as in real ball players actually fall forward for extra yards..again some of the tackles are quirky but they fall in line with everything else...My fear is that there will be enough complaints to make them go back to the WWE blow up tackles...I truly think these patches are intended to try and change new dynamics for the next year..If they would add DH it would be golden..
Don't be ridiculous; of course the game is tested prior to sending out patches. How else would they know if their patch is going to crash the game or not?

Agree 100%. I mentioned earlier on 3rd and short, prior to this update, I would pass instead of run for fear of being blown up in the backfield with those WWE blow up tackles.
It's change that should really help the AI, and they need all the help they can get. Their ineptitude in short yardage really hamstrings them. One of the reasons they are inept is that they consistently call runs in these spots (3rd or 4th and 1 or less to go) that are easily blown up.
Getting an extra yard or two on the tackle animation should help their 3rd down conversion %.
Played one game last night and I like the RB's being able to grab another yard or two, at least when I'm going full speed into a tackle. Doesn't seem to be over the top to me but ymmv. There used to be too many TFL when a LB would WWE you. ;)
I did hear some new commentary.. really wish they would update it more often.
Still see too many times where the DB just stands there and doesn't follow the WR.

I had one on a kick return where I juked back away from the defender but when the tackle animation started my returner fell forward for another 3 yards.

I have experienced what I believe to be the post-patch unrealistic tackle/momentum animation during every kick off thus far. No way Tavon Austin should be drilled head-on and, with his stature, be able to suddenly bend forward and drive the defender backwards for 2 or 3 extra yards.
Again, when the game first released, there was rarely a chance for user or cpu ball carrier to fight for extra yardage, when the calculation of the collision should have afforded that outcome. EA had already cleaned this and the WWE tackles up quite nicely in previous title updates. I do hope this is toned down or resolved.

Thanks Roadman. Too bad the competitive community, which is deserving of a style of gameplay they prefer, carries more weight regarding the direction that the game is going than that of the sim folks. Having separate sim-arcade-competitive modes was presented as a way to solve this. Apparently, title updates cannot be assigned as such regarding certain elements of overall gameplay.
I will wait until I play a real game, but this tackling thing seems horrible when I did a COVER 2 training drill in franchise (just got back into an online franchise).
Receivers with little momentum built up getting tackled right after they catch the ball and dragging the CB for 5 yards every time. If it's like that in real games, I'm sorry that's simply not realistic at all and is completely absurd.
Whether you are "sim" or "competitive" shouldn't matter here - it's certainly not "sim" and it takes no skill to get tackled and drag your opponent from a 2 yard gain to a 7 yard one.
After playing a few games now I actually feel like it was a step in the right direction. I hated the blow up tackles and imo the previous patches hadn't come close to fixing it. I am finding that the glitch ones definitely don't happen every play like some have posted here, I still see runners stopped in their tracks and driven back. Can it be improved upon/toned down some more....yes, but I don't want to go back to the running backs running full speed getting knocked backwards for 0 yard gains by a guy who was standing still just dipping his shoulder. I also like the toned down RPM, I was so sick of seeing a receiver try to cut up field on a crossing route and basically stopping before changing direction.

I honestly haven't minded it one bit. The AI is scoring more, and my past 2-3 games have been more tightly contested. Dudes were more or less getting stopped in their tracks every time prior to this patch, and that was just horrible for the AI because they have a hard time making a human miss.
Short yardage stops aren't automatic anymore, and I'm not generating the crazy high number of TFL that I would consistently get without doing anything special at all.
In regards to the “drag ball carrier down animation” that happens on nearly every play, when this happens it also doesn’t register as a tackle in the stats
A post from one of user vs cpu slider makers that I concur with:
I tested out the new patch last night and we're still very much good to go. There is a different feel to the tackling, but it's still balanced with our setup here.
We all play this game differently, some play cpu vs cpu, some play user vs cpu , some play MUT, some play user vs user, some play now vs cpu or user vs user, and some play competitive.
The way you play the game and the way you have your sliders set up will make you see things differently than others that are playing the same game, but playing it differently than you.
Let's throw in there the differences in playing Pro, AP and All Madden, too.
And in all of those different scenarios, the way the game plays will all be different.

So, that was my quote...but I'd like to say this as well....
I agree with Roadman that our individual setups will impact what we see. That said, I'm intrigued by what others are seeing too. While I'm disinclined to make changes to my particular slider setup at this time, I am curious about the observations others make. It'd be helpful to sort of diagnose what people are seeing. Frankly, this is the first patch since October that I felt had some sort of a "global" impact to the gameplay....
It would be helpful if people could reference their gameplay mode (user v CPU, CPU v CPU, coach mode, user v user) and slider setup.
Call me weird, but I have been playing on default sliders since the game launched in August on the PC. I see the drag animations a few times, but no where near a lot. Grant it I only play play now. At this time of the year, I really don't play Madden anymore once the Super Bowl has passed.
All madden on intro/pro main menu and playing in Play Now, cpu vs cpu with heavily edited classic rosters.
Game played like a gem before the patch. Best ive ever seen Madden. Patch messed it up a bit. I still get good stats and games, but the tackle dragging looks bad sometimes. Also seen Peyton manning get hit and he shot 10 feet into the air like a rocket. This feels like opening day problems. Kind of the opposite of how the game was too sticky on release, now it’s slightly too loose and playing a little wonkier.
For me, this new patch was a half-step backwards. I like some of the animations, on run plays it looks better, its when the wrs do it for 6 extra yards. Running backs seem better controlled with this. Maybe the can give us a tuner to tighten it back up to how it was. Was impressed with the patches before this one. Previous patches this release seemed more like enchancments, while this one seems more like they meddle way more this go around.
Game’s still playable, but not as awesome as before. I wont be streaming any games any time soon with it looking like this. Only complaints i had was no sideline reporter for injury updates and open up the legendary coaches playbooks we got with madden 25.
Haven’t watched as many games since the patch either. Just not as magical as it was before. Before, it hardly ever looked like a video game, now it looks more like a video game.

User vs. CPU, All-Pro, user and CPU tackle sliders currently at 40:
I'm seeing the "twist forward" tackle animations on approximately 70% of all tackles on all ball-carriers. Previous momentum seems to occasionally make a difference, but not consistently; I have seen other animations and no additional forward progress on ball carriers moving parallel to the line or backward, and it seems to happen far more frequently when the runner does have a good head of steam forward...but I have also seen more than a few tackles fall forward that realistically shouldn't have.
I've also noticed that seeing the animation doesn't always result in extra yards. Specific example: with the LOS at the CPU's 40, my LB hit the CPU runner at the 39. The forward animation triggered, and it LOOKED like the runner fell forward to about the 42. However, the ball was marked down at the 39.
My overall impression is that the animation often LOOKS very jarring and out-of-place. That's increasing frustration and driving some reactions past what the actual gameplay impact is....in the moment, especially on a 3rd and short, seeing what we've gotten used to as a sure stop turned into a moderate gain via a jarring animation gets our blood boiling. I know I've reacted that way.
The animation is also strange enough that it makes it difficult to remember exactly what the yardage outcome of that play would have been before....we're now paying more attention to something we'd been taking for granted, and that always skews perceptions and reactions.
But over the course of 5 games played now, the total REAL impact seems to be increasing CPU yardage gained by maybe 1-2 yards per play on average (individual plays are as high as 5 yards, some are really no change).
Given the CPU's struggles, I can live with it for now. It just looks mighty funky sometimes.
one thing i noticed with my version on pc is during offline franchise mode
when i went to change my teams uniform it gave me the option to change
the other teams but not my own.

Josh, I'm with you on jumping too quickly to change sliders regarding this "ballcarrier momentum issue". I play All Pro with user defeated sliders only, as I leave the CPU sliders @ default. This issue is equally showing itself for both user and CPU. My personal opinion is that this is a triggered animation and that adjusting sliders (tackling) won't curb the issue.
Ok folks, just saw this on Twitter.
Granted, most of the folks posting questions are from the MUT/Competitive crowd, but I think this bodes well for most of the folks in this thread:
Lol can we go back to the last patch? The one where you could actually get a tackle for a loss??? @EA_KRAELO
I don't know what we can do from a patch regression perspective, but the issue you are talking about is already being looked at by the teams. That is all the information I have for you at this time.
Now, having posted that, I just hope it becomes more balanced, I don't want to see the blow up in the backfield tackles I've seen before this update WWE style.

Glad they are looking at this. It's not just ballcarrier motion being animated as an unrealistic "fall forward" that is bothering me. I could look past that, especially if it helps the CPU. It's more so when I am hitting a receiver as he is running out of bounds, and he suddenly stops dead in his tracks and backs himself and the defender back into the field of play. I've played the game for several hours and I am seeing examples such as described every 5 or 6 plays.
I am also seeing some sudden wonky catch animations and suction blocking as well. I wasn't seeing many WWE tackles after the patch before this one.
I believe every patch thus far has made improvements, without causing anything to go horribly wrong.
However, this update has taken the game back a step, no question about it in my opinion. I hope it is addressed before it becomes a legacy issue leading into next year's release.
It totally has messed up my franchise! Im 15-1 with my All-Time rosters on All-Madden default. This game tried everything to screw up my chances of winning! All runningbacks attack every defender like Jim Brown! Straight Garbage!

The true sign that this game is straight garbage is the fact that 99% of the YouTube videos made by posers are more about glitches and cheating instead of true strategy! Shame on you Madden team!

Playing more today, yeah it is a bit much and it affects training as well while on defense trying to prevent a score to get gold or silver
The WRs and RBs all fall forward for three yards either falling in the EZ or first downs. Makes training frustrating.
I can still get tackles for loss in games on rush plays against the CPU but it's a lot more infrequent.
On third and 1 today I ran it 90% of the time and converted. No fear of being stopped like before. So in a game it's not awful but it happens an awful lot is all but it is on both sides so my biggest gripe is during training.
The fact that that it's in the game more often than not isn't right, but the fact they are investigating this issue in March has to be a record of some sort.
Happy they are investigating vs letting this ride in 20.
I think I might be losing my mind, because I could swear for most of the year the gripe was WT and STR don't matter, CBs can stone wall big dudes, blah blah blah.
Now offensive players mostly fall forwards, almost always when they are actually running forward, and no one likes that, either. Anyone trying to say the animation triggers every down is exaggerating. Taking better angles to the ball carrier while in pursuit helps a ton.
All those weak tackle attempts that got crazy, "stop-them-dead" animations are gone. Ball carriers run right through them now, and that is both more realistic and makes for a better game.

I agree here..but with caveat..the game doesn’t have enough animations for the outcome..which makes it look and feel repetitive and ugly
One other observation: again Coach Mode only player..but noticing better play by WR on throws, including under thrown deep balls..
I’m enjoying the patch for my play style (again coach Mode only calling plays) ..it just looks ugly at times..but the outcomes normally fit, with the 20%/30% of the time a smaller ball carrier with carry someone they shouldn’t.

But there do exist smaller dudes in the NFL who are more than capable of running through weak tackle attempts :P

At the same time, the defense hitting is affected tremendously which makes the outcome unrealistic! The bottom line is this game is in year 30 and no real physics exist! Its still animations driven which is unacceptable! Watch next year they will revisit the defense’s hit stick and bring back the ps2 hit stick from 2005 and call it something different but in reality same ole same ole!

If the issue you were speaking of was the only effect of the title update, I would 100% agree with you. The fall forward animation is exaggerated, but it's not anything to get overly lathered up about. Of course, if some folks do, that's their right.
However, that issue does not take into account the full scope of the problem. Tackle animations that make absolutely no sense whatsoever are taking place throughout the game. For example if I throw a perfectly timed out route and am in the process of stepping out of bounds, there is no way a defender screaming towards me would be able to stop on a dime and throw me back in bounds. That is just one of the many strange and wonky experiences I'm seeing since the update. Thankfully, they are looking into it.

If they could tune this so a ballcarrier with true momentum would trigger this animation, then I would agree with you here. Having my tackle slider on 40, I was already experiencing this gameplay. It's the reverse tackle momentum animations happening between WR's and DB's that are the most egregious in my eyes. Now, an Eagles fan agrees with you and a Cowboys fan partially agrees with you...
I definitely do not want them to go overboard and tune it back to WWE smack-down-dead-in-your-tracks tackling like it was at launch. That was awful.

Tell me about it. Actually, years ago, The Fort Worth Star Telegram and a real good fan forum page. For some reason, an Eagles fan (WRZ) frequented it. LOL I thought we were all just trying to be Madden fans...
While it goes both ways, at least with this "fall-forward glitch" I'm able to successfully gain first downs.
Too many times before this happened, I'd always be stopped at 4th and inches, 3rd and inches etc.
Don't get me wrong, I hope they balance it out, but I do enjoy the fact that I have a decent running game now, and I can pick up firsts on 3rd and short etc.
I just hope they fix the momentum of where the tackle takes you like somebody before I said. It looks jarring when a receiving is running right, and you tackle him from behind, to see him get suctioned and start falling forward to the left.

I agree when the game was first released the momentum on offense was horrible, now its just the opposite! You can have a back the size of mini me and he will fall forward against Ray Lewis or Mean Joe Greene! Lol What happened to Physics?

Ummm this patch 100% sucks. I play in all modes of the game, and it sucks in all modes, especially every CPU or User player falling forward animtion that is repeatedly getting dumb "patch animation" glitched first downs which are also not being recorded as stats for tackle.
SWITCH IT BACK EA...sliders for CFM, Play Now, and MUT mode were doing *just fine before this terrible patch!
*and by "just fine" I mean I found workable settings to play with in all modes since this game is delivered broken every single year anyway.

The true sign that this game is straight garbage is the fact that 99% of the YouTube videos made by posers are more about glitches and cheating instead of true strategy! Shame on you Madden team!

No real football strategy required whatsoever. Frustrating

An really disappointed with last patch . Thought the game was playing pretty good before it . On a side note . I just set single season record for rushing yards in my week 17 game . Announcers didn’t even acknowledge it . Really sad what is still lacking in his game .

    It’s not a glitch, it’s a designed choice.
A “99” TKL rating is/was the override to all ball carrier win animations during a tackle attempt.
If this still holds true, this may be the simple work-around towards the fall-forward animation triggering against a large portion of talkers.
    - TKL rating is generated on the high end anyways with rookies
I just would like greater “break-tackle” animations by a ball carrier to branch from this tackle animation.
    - hand on the ground etc...

I happen to agree with this play, this play shouldn't be in the game, but I do want to see more momentum going forward and more of a balance going forward.
And again, the team is investigating the issue, so, the ball is in their court, folks.
Sounds like some people want to put the game in and let it rip and hope the game plays sim out of the box. Not one sports game that I've ever owned and put the disc in and let it rip attitude. I adjust the game to my sim liking and don't rely on sport gaming companies making a sim game out of the box.

Thanks for bringing this in Roadman. That animation, while flawed for reasons SimFball explained, isn't too egregious. What I am continuing to experience is a force field effect just before my defender makes contact with a stationary or sideways running ballcarrier. This causes my defender's progress to stop or reverse just before contact, thus allowing the ballcarrier to gain a significant and unrealistic momentum advantage.
The next time any of you experience this, watch it over very, very slowly in replay and you will see the actual problem starts just before the contact and the subsequent following animation plays out as a result.
Why I completely agree that one will always need to set sliders to achieve as close to a sim experience as possible, console slider adjustments will not prevent this event from happening.

ive watched several more games now, this is with a heavily edited roster. but im noticing the power backs don’t have this animation occur nearly as much as the elusive/speed-type backs or wrs. Tight ends are a different story though. but tight ends dont seem like surge forward for as many yards.
there’s also been a couple of times where the ball has been spotted where the tackle started before the drag.
like i said earlier, this feels like some kind of opening day problem. very strange
After reading through the last few days of this thread I'm a bit confused... it seems like some of you guys like how it is after the new patch. Have you guys actually played with it though? I can understand liking the idea of people falling forward more often than not in situations that warrant it, but that's not how this patch works. Guys can be standing still, or running backwards and they still get warped into this tackle animation. It's not more realistic at all.
The idea of having more momentum-based tackle outcomes is excellent and i think we would all like to see that, but that's not what's happening with this patch. It's an automatic fall forward regardless of the situation on at least 75% of tackles right now. It's not game breaking but it's horribly ugly to watch and it makes the game feel a lot less realistic than it did before this patch because the tackle outcomes have nothing to do with the on field situation or momentum.
I also saw some people saying that this helps the balance with the CPU and they're more difficult now..... I don't understand that at all because this bug is happening to user and computer players. My tiny CB got an INT and trucked an o lineman while stumbling.
The issue with this is that it has nothing to do with momentum, strength, weight, or anything else logical. It has everything to do with these animations being triggered way too often because of a bug.

    1. The people that are wanting more information are people that have played some games , but maybe aren't seeing the outcomes that others have reported. All they want is more information, and I don't think that is a bad thing, do you? These are posters that I've trusted their opinions for quite awhile.
    2. About balance, I've brought it up a few times, I just want the outcomes to be balanced. For example, user vs cpu, I don't want to be blown up WWE style in the backfield by the CPU on a majority of the run plays. I only played a half, so, mine is a small sample size, but I would say I noticed a mix of 50/50 on my end on momentum vs non-momentum plays. They just looked weird on some of them.
    3. The team is investigating on what people are reporting. Isn't that a win/win for everyone. Most investigations result in a update. Just need to sit back and wait for all this to play out.

I don't think wanting more information is a bad thing. It seemed like there were a decent amount of people saying they like how it is being implemented and that to me sounds like people who haven't actually been playing. Maybe my situation is unique and i've seen more instances than most people, but there's nothing realistic about what is happening and i think anyone that has played for any length of time since the update would agree. I agree with sitting it out and giving them time to work things out and patch it up.
It is what it is though. The game is still a great game and i'll continue to play it. It's not nearly as bad as some of the other issues we've had over the years. I'm not surprised when games have bugs, but when people justify the bugs to say it makes the game better, or they say the bugs aren't actually there, i think it's fair to wonder if those people are actually playing the game.

Well, might as well include me into it the mix, I admit there is a bug and EA wouldn't be investigating if there is one, but, I only saw this on 50% of the times a runner ran the ball. Others are reporting 75%(you), 80%, and all the time. Who is right? People at OS and Twitter have been reporting this and it's been delivered to the correct people.
I've learned a long time ago Philly, posters who come in and report what they find throughout the years I will give them more of a listen. I made a longer post in here, we all see things differently depending what you are playing. A poster that has been reporting things straight up over the years I will take over vs someone coming in cold and saying, patch sucks, this sucks, etc.....
You and I have been here long enough that we know whose opinions should hold weight and water.
Here's my thing with this whole thing, I do not want to go back to WWE style takedowns in the backfield. On 3rd and short, I don't want to pass all the time just to make a first down in fear of a WWE takedown in the backfield. This title update was the first time I didn't notice much of that going on at all. What will happen when they fix this bug? Are we going back to that type of play? I don't want that, I want this to become more balanced if that is all possible. We know when title updates drop, we need to test things out.
    I hope that makes sense.

Yeah if it comes to WWE or this , I'll take this.

We'll see but many might argue it was far from flawless before this patch and I'm one of those.
As stated before, I can still get tackles for loss against RBs it's just everybody now falls forward including QBs while getting sacked. I'd just like it to be more balanced between falling forward and the WWE tackles. But going back to 1.18, No thanks.

video after video of flawless gameplay in cpu vs cpu mode on youtube with my slider setup. games had real nfl stats too and accurate next gen stats like snap to pass times for qbs. and i didnt see any of the wwe tackles in the backfield. tfls were coming in at league averages, 5-11 combined tfls by both teams combined. Game was pretty much perfect. woulda liked jet sweeps and sideline reporters for injury updates.
Beyond that, I had no complaints. minus this crazy stuff, it still plays good, just looks like a video game now. before, it looked like real life. 5-11 tfls by both team per game. was way more balanced before the patch with the right sliders. i just raised tackle slider a little this morning and it played better than when i first downloaded the patch. didn’t see this animation but 5-6 times and it was the elusive backs doing.
players play to ratings too, still do, but now they just have a crazy animation every now and then. im hoping a slightly higher tackle wil fix it. seems like it will from very minimal testing.
lower tackle sliders were the key to my set, but now, it seems like i’ll have to set it higher to get it back to perfect again.

    I hope that makes sense.

When Madden 19 first dropped, WWE style hit stick tackles occurred at an alarming rate. At first, I thought I had the game set on arcade mode. However, after the last patch before this one, I noticed those tackles were toned way, way down. I was able to run the ball on short yardage situations, but it was difficult, just as I frequently see during real life NFL football.
I make sure I have both an inside an outside run set as audibles so when faced with this situation, I've busted off some of my longest runs depending on what the D is showing me. I've put in about 6 or 7 hours of gameplay since the latest patch and converting this situation is now almost guaranteed. I have my run blocking set at 35 on All Pro with no adjustment to CPU sliders whatsoever.
Hopefully, they will get on this quickly, but not over-react and then over adjust so we end up back in WWE land as you also mentioned. Tackling happens on almost every single play. They've simply got to get this right.
I respect everybody's opinion, regardless if I am in agreement or not. Through my eyes, the tackling since this update looks and feels very unrealistic and canned. I've noticed it happening every 4 or 5 plays.
It surprises me that so many are strongly against a roll back to the ball carrier/tackling interaction of 1.18. Yes in a perfect world an adjustment based off of 1.19 would be optimal, but I'm not sure they can make the proper adjustments in a timely manner.
Yes, it required some slider work, but IMO, the run game was in a nice place with 1.18. I felt very comfortable running on 3rd and 3 against many teams. I don't feel like the stonewall tackling has been in the game since September.
We know that one of the major weakness of Madden is not enough animation coverage and the wrong animation sequences playing out way too often. This latest patch has exacerbated that situation big time. Two players going full speed in one direction, and then a tackling animation triggers that is literally impossible based off of the angles and momentum that they collide at.
The way they have it now should be looked at as something that could form the basis for interactions in M20, but only if they can increase the number animations in these situations, and exponentially improve the contextual appropriateness of when certain animations trigger.

Ah, well I play User vs CPU and I can tell you, the game plays different for Users than CPU vs CPU. I get sacked sometimes 8 times a game but an average of 4. I am user of two teams and when they faced each other I slow simmed it cpu vs cpu for them slug it out and I just watched,.... and there was 2 sackes the entire game between both teams.
Pass blocking is pretty bad in this game as a User. To mention one thing.

Honestly I feel I was just so tired of seeing my power back get stuffed on 3rd and inches despite being i) in full flight, and ii) as close if not closer to the first down marker as the defender heading towards me, that it's a welcome change regardless of the problems.
You've always had to be imaginative to not let Madden's issues drag you down, IMO. I can imagine a CB breaking a few tackles despite how ugly or unrealistic they look, easier than I can imagine my power HB running in to a literal brick wall. I think it's a net positive change, just needs a lot of refining.

Thanks Mr. Hanky. Here again, at the 2:00 minute mark, I really don't see an issue with Kamara's forward momentum. The defender looked like he was containing the backside and only took 1 step forward towards Alvin, while RB was on his 3rd step upon the collision. The fall forward animation doesn't look natural, but I can personally look past that since I believe the outcome of the play was reasonably reflected. What would have occurred with the same example shown at launch would have likely resulted in a hit stick smack-down tackle in the backfield. I certainly wouldn't want to see that again.
Hopefully, someone will post a video showing the problem I have regarding the "defender-ballcarrier-force field-reverse tackle animation" that is now frequently being triggered since the patch.
Simply stated, EA needs to input whether the ballcarrier is stationery, moving in a certain direction, momentum he has gathered in relation to his size plus speed vs. the defender size, speed, momentum he has built up and his positioning to the ballcarrier upon the collision.
It now appears as if there is a once size fits all tackle animation triggering and it looks and feels overly predetermined combined with an unrealistic end result.
One thing I have noticed since the patch before this one is I have the penalty sliders at default and I would typically see a total of 2-6 per game, I haven't had 1 penalty in a very long time.
The forward momento thing is not happening on every play, a lot maybe, but every play.
I bumbed tackling up from 42 to 44 that helped a lot at 15 minutes Quarters.
EA gotta adjust it a bit
    edgevoice
Thanks Mr.

Yeah, I hear ya on the original OOTB tackling. I slidered that out a long time ago. Tackling for both human and cpu should be in the 30s. I’ve been running well for awhile and felt the slidered tackling was decent. I saw falling forward and I also saw hit sticks when appropriate. In essence, I saw it all, imo. So, for me, this falling forward 90% just looks totally unrealistic. And, I’ve seen the reverse momentum tackles you’re about. That seems to happen most often on WRs, and it looks awful. And, yeah, I also agree on the ‘one tackle fits all.’ I think that’s the big problem for me. Again, with sliders, I was actually seeing a variety of tackles. Now, seeing the same animation kills immersion, some.
As to Kamara’s play(s) (he was actually running the play over and over, so it wasn’t just one instance in replay), he is getting hit clean by a large man. Lol. I mean, smallish backs can lean forward and get tough yardage, but for me, Kamara is a great shifty elusive back, but he’s on the smallish side, and I expect a large DE to simply plow him over in that situation, so, for me, I don’t think that’s realistic. But, to each his own, for sure. OOTB, the tackling was ridiculous and I understand people wanting more ‘falling forward.’
Did u watch a little further in? The drew brees qb sneak is absolutely horrific. Lol. He literally takes the snap, gets nailed by a DT and falls forward for 5 yards. That’s def unrealistic and just looks awful.
Anyways, sounds like this is a problem, so I think we’ll get another patch on it, or maybe they’ll just revert this patch. Lol.

Good points regarding sliders. Before the last patch, which toned down CPU RPM, my user tackle slider was 30. After the patch, I couldn't tackle a pony league player. After raising it to 40, I was seeing realistic outcomes afterwards. Sometimes, sliders really can and do help to mitigate a lot of issues folks may have with the game. However, with regards to the current tackling issue, I have not been able to "slide away" the problem I have with the current tackling animations.
The QB sneak he showed reminded me of Madden 17 at times. I only use QB sneak on the goal line on rare occasions so I could look past that issue. Defensively, I always pinch my line when faced with a possible QB sneak threat.
Hopefully it gets fixed. Until then, I'll work on playbooks and gameplans. The game is not unplayable, but I was having such a blast playing before this patch, it did suck a lot of the fun out of it for me personally. Thanks again for the link Mr. Hanky.
I bumped tackle to 50 and it’s fixed things on my end with cpu vs cpu. Still have the forward momentum push but it’s not as over-powered. Looks just right now on my end. Maybe a little better than pre-patch. Rbs aren’t always winning the fight for extra yards now.
Pre-patch the tackle slider was too strong and high 30s was the sweetspot, 38 was where I had it. Now the sweetspot seems to be around 50.

That's where my tackle slider has been for a long time and that is why I don't feel I see it as much as others may be observing.
I'm not saying it shouldn't be fixed by EA, but maybe that helps minimize observing the bug.
And that just back to my post about different people play on different settings/different sliders, etc.....

I went back to 50 because people running with that weren’t seeing the problems as bad. Just got kinda spoiled by the patches not being so drastic there needs to be many slider tweaks.
Seeing tons of nice 1 and 2 and 3 yard runs like i wasn’t seeing before this patch. I think you were seeing the wwe stuff before because you had it at 50. 35-38 tackle range before loosened that chicanery up.
Loving the game again with the 50 tackle. Glad they loosened up the tackling and 50 is finally the True Default.
So how many TFL's and sacks have you guys been screwed out of in this new update because they aren't counting them because of this "QB tries to run and falls forward" bullcrap???
Horrendous patch. Fix your garbage EA.
I have to say this might be the worst patch all yr. Not sure who complained to EA or who's idea this was, but it was a bad one imo. Not needed this late in the cycle to screw things up. This couldn't have been fully tested, feels half baked to me. EA needs to fix this fast. I've had tackling at 50 pretty much all yr, but its still pretty awful & doesn't remedy the situation at all. user/cpu. Defenders are basically paper weights one on one.

I feel like they definitely needed to tune the forward progress of ball carriers. Almost every time I would have even a bigger back or receiver get stopped in their tracks by a small DB while the ball carrier was running full steam ahead. But they definitely dropped the ball with this patch. Now it feels pretty much automatic that ball carriers are going to push a a couple of extra yards.

Yeah, hopefully the guys on PC can fix this. I was pretty happy with the game until this point. Looks awful as well. Maybe combat it with a high tackling slider, and maybe the animation wont trigger.

Mill, i had to bump run block down to 50. I’d had it at 60, but the lanes were too wide open and they were running down hill and that seemed to be causing a lot of forward momentum stuff. That stuff happened more in shotgun plays, looked like HB Base or Zone type plays.
Now it looks way better. Better than before the patch. Seeing better amounts of the 1,2,3 yard runs and it’s not guys getting droppedfor no gain all the time like before this patch. Way more organic with more body twisting and leverage.

Mil, some folks are seeing improvement with bumping up tackle slider. However, I've experimented in trying to do the same and have had no luck in preventing the force-field-like-defender-reversing-his-momentum before the collision takes place animation from triggering.
The only effect that raising the tackle slider has done for me is make it easier to make stops when the bizarre animation does not occur. The only thing I haven't tried yet is bumping up the game speed, to see if that prevents the issue from having enough time to take place.
You're experienced with sliders so would definitely appreciate any tips if you are able to resolve this. I've always been able to tune the game with very sound results, but this appears beyond the use of sliders in my eyes. Thanks.

Limited testing with raising the tackle slider to 55, but I don't think that's a fix like you said. Levon Bell is plowing over Myles Garrett on a regular basis, oh boy lol. Unless a fix that might do it for Madden this yr.

I have notice that as well, several sacks not counted because the QB falls forward . . .
Definitely some sort of bug here . . .
I've been using Fast game speed and Tackle setting between 50 and 55 and the fall/pull forward animation for RBs, QBs and WRs still happening in some unrealistic situations (as well as some realistic situations, fyi). Offline FM.
Like everyone said, tune it more to physics of momentum (direction + player weight + player strength + break tackle + tackling of each colliding player). And then perhaps tackling slider will then sway these outcomes pro-call carrier / pro-tackler.

The only thing I've tried that seems to even somewhat mitigate the issue is to set tackling to aggressive in the coach adjustments menu in-game. This is obviously a one-sided fix, but personally I have seen it trigger way more for the CPU than for user-controlled players so it is a passable fix.
Still more annoyed by the fall forward in training. When I hit a FB in then acmfield and they fall forward four yards for a first down when it's third down, that effects training and makes it harder to get silver sometimes for the defense.
Wow. I'm sorry, but this game is a mess. My play select screen has started scrolling on its own. Pausing seems to get it to stop, but it comes back. Total kill-joy.
My user controlled players have to slow way down or stop to change direction/turn upfield. It's an eye sore, especially when cpu players slide, skate, warp, and turn on a dime.
Gotta have WR catch turned up or hey can't hold on to anything with the slightest contact. And they don't fight or "go for" the ball at all.
Is there ANY part of the game that's tries to be physics orientated, or is everything a canned animation you get sucked/stuck into?
Thankfully, I only paid $20, but still. It's 2019 for crying out loud! Not sure I can tolerate this game in it's current state. May have to go back to Madden 18 and wait until next year.

My play select screen was doing that too and mine was real bad. I did a data reset on (I play PS4) the console which seemed to help. Can also reset the controller which I didn't do and is most likely the culprit but believe it or not, this is when it stopped.
I saw a post in a thread about those that had this issue and a guy said he put his mouth over the left joy stick, which is the one that scrolls things and blew air in the area around the openings of the joystick. I thought well that isn't going to help but two days later when it was still doing it, I tried it and it hasn't done it since. So I do it here and there now to keep it from whatever was making it do that.

I totally agree with you lol
being out of the loop but if the issue we are complaing is that RB get most of his tackles falls forward, i prefer this than the stone wall they were before :)

Why not try it for yourself? Otherwise it's just pure speculation.... It's not just rbs it's anyone with the ball. Even on sacks your qb can get thrown forward.

I will but i can't play any time soon. Just hate tackling since they removed phycics 100% on 2019 so unless they go back to 2017 tackling i will have to decide between the bad and the worst.

Funny you mentioned Madden 17 tackling. That game, while it certainly had it's issues, felt far more organic regarding the tackle system.
The title update did improve the stonewall tackles and the reach tackle take downs, but there are so many instances where I feel that tackling looks just awful and does not take physics even remotely into consideration.
At least the issue has gotten a great deal of attention and hopefully EA will get on this real quick. While this is only the second current gen Madden I've purchased, I've been impressed with how well the updates have gone thus far. In my opinion, something must have simply gone wrong with this latest patch. I can't imagine they intended the game to play like this.
I'm also noticing quite a bit more random bugginess. Nothing gamebreaking, but players will freeze quite abit post play, contested catches are turning out some poor animations and the game speed is also slightly slower. On the bright side, I can actually play cover 2 again, since my mid-read backer is now correctly playing his assignment and that wasn't even mentioned in the patch notes.

Yeah, 1.20 looks to be live, but based on the patch notes, it does not contain a fix for the animation issue (looks like just a couple of connectivity issue fixes). However, it does include a statement that they are aware of and are looking into the "falling forward" animation.

Thanks Road and thanks for the twitter updates you relay to those of us from time to time who don't subscribe.
I hope they don't fix the players "falling forward". I hope they fix the unrealistic animation that triggers, causing the tackler to stop and take a slight step backwards before the collision. There are times when falling forward should take place.
Basically, I hope they fix the tackling mechanic so it feels and looks more organic, rather than what appears now to being forced into an animation that doesn't feel right, look right, nor end in a believable result at times.

They should fix it a little. I don't want to go back to wrestling take downs but fix it so we get a mix of both. Like I said before, it's pretty bad while doing training. Hit a little WR with a LB at the five, he gets drug to the one. Makes it tough to get even bronze sometimes as I've had to do a few redo's.
Maybe making it balanced is hard, i don't know.

It felt for organic because it used rag doll physcis into account, which was completely removed in 2019.
I don't want to derivate the topic but here are some videos i posted when 2019 was released complaining about it. (there is a thread as well).
    2019

(noticed how after both defenders are engage with the tackler the 3rd dive tackle has no impact what so ever on the ball carrier). In 2019 once the animation kicked there was no other animation interacting with it UNLESS it breaks the animation completely and start a NEW one with the new defender.
    2017

(See the differnece? how the Ball carrier is affected not only by the 2nd defender but even for the 3rd defender with a none scripted tackle outcome).
Thanks Booker. I remember seeing you post these videos in the past. You illustrated exactly what I was trying very hard to explain. The second tackler did appear to slightly impact Ingram's momentum, but the 3rd tackle diving low had 0 effect thru my eyes.

The fact remains they are the only company allowed to make an NFL game after almost 15 years is a true testament of how horrible our society has become! At least in the 90’s we had choices! The sad thing is the technology is so great and wonderful today but we will never know how great of a NFL game we should have today because of EA’s greed!
We should have a football game with true voice recognition for audibles( I know its been done before but Im talking thousands of football terminology and phrases).
We should have route flexibility instead of pre- programmed routes. We should have a more advanced artificial intelligence which truly reflects professional football. A better and more accurate passing system. A true tv presentation with a choice of broadcasters!
A true physics based engine for more lifelike tackles and better running animations!
You see EA will never give a true football simulation because MUT has destroyed this community! Im all for Legends but sell the classic teams ( just look at NBA 2k and see how much they give their fan base).
We should be able to use any rosters we want online without entering a franchise. Most of these items have been in the game before ( maybe not as advanced as it should have been) however they bring features back and sell it as new innovations!
I definitely understand what you are saying but my patience with this sad company has run out!!

Honestly this is my favorite Madden in years. They did a great job. They actually work to fix their bugs and I'm sure we'll have a fix sometime soon. No devs are going to be perfect in the eyes of the consumer, but these guys are a heck of a lot better than the Fifa devs who just don't care about their game and release the same garbage year after year with no post release support for offline modes.

I get the frustration with this title update, I wouldn't put it on the shelf if I liked it.
Fighting back against hasn't worked in well over a decade, people have yelled and screamed about Madden, but Madden keeps churning away.
The best thing people can do if frustrated with the entire Madden thing is to speak with their own wallet. I've seen people that over the last decade have said they are don with Madden as well and still, here we are.

Ongoing patches and issues have become the norm, no excuses can be made, it's March

I agree with this, I can't give anymore excuses to this Dev team this late in the game. The production quality needs to step up big time over at EA. "There looking into things," isn't cutting it. Never should of hit the public with those animations in the first place if it was properly tested, unless that's what there really going for... yikes. The 3rd & shorts I get, but everything else makes no sense. The community shouldn't have to keep coming up with work arounds & Band-Aid fixes just to play a simple game of football. I want Madden to be good.

-------- The community shouldn't have to keep coming up with work arounds & Band-Aid fixes just to play a simple game of football. ----------

I agree with this point wholeheartedly. I absolutely understand that sliders are provided as a way for us to tune the game more specific to our liking. However, when issues like the tackling animations we are currently dealing with cannot simply be "tuned away" then that's a problem.
It's all well and good that the developers have communicated that they are aware of the problem. However, I've seen nothing posted as to if/when this will be addressed.
I'm far from a computer expert, nor have I the slightest idea of how difficult making a video football game with 22 players all running around at the same time must be. Therefore, I always put anything negative I have to say about the game through that filter first. Having done that, there simply is no excuse for the mess that tackling is since the patch.
When I read other posters, who try to see the glass half-full as I try to, say they are no longer playing the game, that speaks volumes. Perhaps instead of worrying about bragging about new features or gimmicks, EA should focus on the one element that franchise, offline, online and MUT players should all be in agreement on.......................G-A-M-E-P-L-A-Y.
I have a hard time excusing this second to last title update.
EA Madden a few years ago declared they were going the route of continuous improvement of the game. Normally, the title update I think used to run into February. I was surprised by a title update late February with a early August release, but, in hindsight, I wish it didn't come out.
Title Updates are the norm for all gaming companies since the switch from cartridges.
I think some of you might be misunderstanding my "communicating to us" and associating it with I'm giving them an excuse. I'm not, I can separate the two. One is a glaring mistake of a title update and the other is communicating with their consumers on moving forward and becoming more transparent on their title updating communication throughout the year. One does not excuse the other and vice versa.
They could have just as well played the silence game like they have in the past and not let us know what they were working on for a title update. Or they could have ignored the whole issue and continued making Madden 20.
The reason why any company won't give a approximate timeline when the title update will arrive is because if they miss that timeline and go past it, the interwebs will be on fire.
Onto Madden 20 news, Gaudin and Davis are still in. They recorded 5 hours of work today.
Once EA fixes this and properly, I will be happy to put into my gaming console. Until then, not a chance.

All greats points Roadman. While I'm glad EA has made a statement about it and they're looking into it, I just can't get my head wrapped around why now there looking into it? Like no one saw this maybe an issue before it went into the update? I mean they have an ex-nfler head of gameplay lol. It makes me question the procedure of how things are actually done in that building. Thats neither here nor there at this point.
FYI, I wasn't saying your making excuses for EA (if u think I was :). I feel the last few years I've been pretty been accepting of the devs issues, reasonings, and have over looked a ton of glitches & short comings (like most). I feel like I view Madden as a glass half full guy like Edge said, but at some point they need to be called down to the carpet & get things right. The comp crowd doesn't really benefit by this change imo & I think there still is a tourney yet which makes me hopeful for a sort of fix.

Yeah, they need to be called out, but Clint came out a few days ago and said how he loved his team at EA, so, there is that. lol
I blame the whole team, from top to bottom, from the programmers, to the testers and to the people that approved that title update going out. It's easy to blame Clint because he is an ex nfler in charge of game play, I'm sure he has a boss to report to as well and because he is available on Twitter.
If I know business, heads should be rolling inside of Madden EA to let such a title update out in the first place. They have to spend extra time and money on something they didn't want to.
It's just frustrating all the way around and the team should be embarrassed.
Oh, and fyi, nah, I saw a few people using the word excuses and I wanted it to be clear I'm not giving one.lol
Patches are common in the gaming industry, I'm a PC gamer and have been for a very long time. I dropped the console some 9 or 8 years ago.
Patches are normal and most add game funtionalty and improvements, when you are constantly patching a game because of play/programing and/or bug issues over a long period of time, it becomes something else.
There is a word for it.
EA may need to come up with two versions of Madden, a simulations version and a play version, it seems that they can't fix both at the same time.

Glad to hear it. I think they do a good job and if they keep recording a ton of hours it'll keep getting better. It would be cool if they took a Fifa route and added a 2nd commentary team for either the playoffs or the primetime games to switch things up some, but Fifa hasn't updated their base commentary in years so overall what they're doing isn't something i'd really like Madden to model.
    Update:
    Hi Madden Community,
We wanted to give you all a quick update on the falling forward bug that players have been experiencing since the February Title Update.
This is a top priority for the team and we're actively working on a fix for the problem. We are targeting an update in the second half of next week and will provide updates when we have more concrete details.
    The Madden Team
I'm sure they will continue to update because now there is a target date and if that target date is passed without a fix, watch out for the interwebs.

I really hope they don't swing the pendulum all the way to the other side again, where no ball carrier is able to fall forward for extra yardage on a tackle. All they need to do is switch up the animations that trigger so visually it doesn't look so appalling.
I fear this upcoming patch. With their track record of how they adjust, it may go back to the way it was before.

I couldn't agree more, if it goes back to the prior title update, I just don't know, especially since we've had a small taste of momentum going forward on 3rd and short and GL plays.
We can only hope for balance for this fix.

That would be awesome, but I feel like this was a just a bug and not them figuring out how to make momentum matter more. That means they'll probably just try to undo the issue they created. Would be great to get what you described though.

I know they're calling it a bug, I'm not buying it personally lol. Hoping they just refine it.

I just assumed, always dangerous, that it was some sort of bug. I never saw any mention of player momentum being adjusted in the patch notes. Perhaps it sprung up do to a change they made that affected strafing, since the unrealistic result of the tackle animation starts with the defender stopping dead in his tracks, into what appears to be a strafe position, before taking a slight step back ahead of colliding with the ballcarrier.
We know that the Madden dev team has historically not been good at creating balanced, logical outcomes when it comes to implementing major gameplay changes.
Since I would consider the new momentum interactions as a major gameplay change, I would be surprised if they could do more than tuning it back to what it was in the short amount of time that they are trying to get this fix out.
What has been lost in the rightful outrage of the momentum issue is that it seemed like man coverage had improved nicely in the 1.19 patch. I'm personally more worried about losing that improvement than going back to the 1.18 momentum tuning.

UPDATE - Wednesday, March 13th at 3:30PM ET: Our changes to address the falling forward bug are currently in certification with Microsoft and Sony. If everything goes smoothly there, we plan to release the update this week.
    And here we go:
    UPDATE: Falling Forward Bug
We are targeting to release a Title Update today, Thursday, March 14th at 11AM ET. Please make sure to follow @EAMaddenNFL for release notes and when the Title Update has gone live on all platforms.
    ITS 11:03 WHERE IS IT!!!!!
In all seriousness, at least they got a fix out. No idea how it’ll work and it shouldn’t have happened, but they did move to fix it, well after NFL season is over.
They may not always get it right, but at least when they screw something up there’s generally an effort to fix it.
