Madden NFL 19
Madden NFL 19 Title Update Available, Full Patch Notes Here
For those of you currently playing Madden NFL 19 on EA Access, Origin Access Basic or Premier, you should have received a launch title update. Everyone else will get it on release date, which is August 7 for the Hall of Fame Edition and August 10 for the Standard Edition.
The bulk of the updates came from feedback on the Madden NFL 19 closed beta, check out the patch notes below.
Key Highlights:
- Authenticity: Updated various stadium exteriors, player likenesses/bodies, rosters and coaches
- Real Player Motion: Improved Pre-Play QB Signatures, Players’ Acceleration rates and AI-controlled ball carriers’ usage of the One-Cut mechanic
- Franchise: Tuned rookie generation to better match the base rosters & skill point progression for better league balance
- Commentary: Added additional commentary for Franchise, MUT Solo Challenges, and more player specific content for the Legends and Rookies
- Soundtrack: YG “Big Bank” track updated
For those of you not aware, EA mistakenly removed Colin Kaepernick’s name from the YG “Big Bank” track.
It’s disappointing and appalling @NFL & @EA took @Kaepernick7’s name out of my verse on Big Bank for Madden 19, like it was a curse word. When he’s not a curse, he’s a gift! Nobody from my team approved any of this.

Have you adjusted the brightness in the settings? I just discovered today they have brightness and contrast settings under accessibility.

Hey my man do you have a xbox one x or regular xbox..I am thinking its a synching and compatibility problem in relation to both..I have a regular xbox and its terrible..
Playing on regular Xbox for EA Access but will switch to PS4 once the game comes out.
I have the regular Xbox one, it seems fine for me idk.

Yea thats what I have as well..I am noticing that most complaints are from the regular xbox one users..I am hoping its a access issue at this point..It may have been fully catered and optimized for the PC and x ...

If I'm not mistaken, isn't this blog a collection of all the fixes/additions from the updates as of today?
Yes it is.
Anyway you can check for Hayden Hurst and Jake Elliot scans? Last time I checked, Hurst only had the normal long-haired white guy face
This was one of my biggest issues with the game believe it or not along with the excessive player clipping at times (limbs fusing together when getting up from tackles, players rolling through the legs of players that are engaged in a two man blocking animation, players & the ball ghosting through the endzone walls, etc..)
I hope this solves the issue with players walking right through the QB's body when breaking the huddle and walking to the line of scrimmage. It happens randomly during certain formations. It's normally the TE walking right through the QB which is a huge eyesore and immersion killer. This has been happening since Madden 17 smh. See the 15:48 minute mark of this vid for reference.... https://youtu.be/1OypRWWlk8w

Question is have they even acknowledged that its a problem?..it may truly be a decision made..what has me hoping that its a hiccup is because everyone isnt having this issue..hope it gets resolved
It’s definitely better than it was in the beta. In the beta I was getting a dark yellow or orangeish sky with dark clouds for my 4:15 game at Lambeau, and I tried that today and the sky was blue with light cloud coverage. I’ve noticed in general though that games outdoors with clear weather are better now than they were in the beta.

Curious to know if this means to forgo the day one update when I get the game on Tuesday.
Yup. That and the break double team block shed should help, along with acceleration time a bit quicker. Hopefully, even if I need to use sliders, that should improve things quite a bit. I'm also wondering if I simply set and leave pass rush on aggressive if that will help the CPU run better. Something I might give a try.
From what I’ve heard New Era Field is pretty much spot on now, idk enough about it to know for sure though.

This is the exact opposite of what they should have done, imo.
I hope that was a typo. It didn't make sense to me either. Gonna see alot of older players very highly rated as the seasons pass.
Comp/Mut players want to multiple hot-route adjustments.
This feedback came 100% from this community.
Sim players in the Beta vividly expressed that it not be touched for Sim, and well, everyone pays the price again for what the Comp/MUT gamers want.
Guaranteed that something will be negatively affected “again” that worked just fine before you applied the update.

Sigh.... I'm not downloading the day one patch on Tuesday. They probably complained about the no run game too. Madden is ruined all because Comp/MUT gamers don't care about learning basic football concepts. Seems changes are made only from their feedback then sim aspects get killed for sim gamers. I loved the QB cadences and how long it took, just needed a way to speed it up as the QB develops over his career.

None of the stuff mentioned bothers me, and I don’t do online CFM, so I’ve learned my lesson from last year, buy the disk and stay offline if you don’t want something you didn’t initially have a problem with, now causing issues.

From what I’ve seen, the inside itself is 100% accurate. From discussing with another OSer, the exterior shots they put in are pretty rare. Just seeing if it’s more frequent with the day 1 patch.

Which is why I still do not understand why even both separating the 3 modes if they are going to change stuff so quickly because of the comp/arcade styles. I mean, it literally isn't even officially released yet and they're changing it.
This is what I was afraid of when playing the beta. Almost all of the complaints from competitive players were of things I actually liked. It pushes things that actually need to be addressed like fixing sim stats on the back burner because people don't like a challenge. Why cater to a community who only seeks to find exploits, money plays, and "cover beaters" AKA all things that are not common in the NFL.
I get what your saying but someone already mentioned it my big issue with it. You have 3 modes and yet they adjust everything for the MUT/Comp crowd which effects the other modes. Also Clint talked up cadences and already patched it because you can't change the play 50 times.

Lets not get too crazy. That many sliders could overload the game. ;)

I thought the QB check animations were realistic. Still time to call hot route and set protections.
They're okay in certain situations but can get kinda annoying in others. This is where a slider would fix this issue and let players decide on what they want.

They were 100% always going to cave in and capitulate to the comp. player about the QB pre-play animations speed and they even added a free adjustment as they come out of the huddle. H2H competitive play messing up stuff as usual.
Yeah, this is the most disappointing thing to hear. Earlier in the cycle I heard that Clint was really not going to budge on this, but I had a feeling it was going to happen once release.
I guess you have to come to a compromise somewhere but thats were I thought the different modes came in to play? For me, I think tweaking for individual modes is no longer and is something that they dont have ability to do. Maybe they bit off more than they can chew with the different modes. Sure the dice rolls are laid out different, but the core gameplay/animations cant be changed in one mode & not the other. Seems pretty clear at this point.
I really hope the sped up QB animations doesnt feel like everything is in hurry up mode. Thats not realistic at all. My fear with Madden is not pre-release its after release, when the knee jerk reactions happen.
I'm excited to see how them tweaking RPM a bit plays out. And also very excited to see the changes they made to the CPU running game.

I agree, it annoys me as well. I have high hopes for Madden and think its a good game. It think it proves well never fully get the sim gameplay experience that we should have due to things like this. No offense to the comp crowd, but the proof is in the pudding for me as a sim gamer. Why work on something like that in the first place when you know the comp crowd isnt really going to like it & scale it back.

Me as well. Im still hyped for Madden 19, but its just kinda takes the air out of the ballon that things like this are road blocking the game from innovating were the sim crowd wants it to go.

Don't say no offense to them, realistic football elements get tuned down or removed because of their wishes, and there is nothing that we as sim gamers can do to fix a lot of these things. Their style is the bane of my existence.
Its a shame, but I think we all know how this is going to go. Hopefully its not going to be bad as I think it is when I see it.
It's nearly impossible to progress rookies. 4 games in, pretty good stats, and nobody has increased. How are these rookies in the 70s going to catch up and be decent players in the league? It's kind of ridiculous.

Isn’t that what they adjusted? Increased skill point progression rate for rookies.

They listened to feedback. There was an overwhelming response by the comp crowd to either get rid of, or speed up the QB animations. Now I agree this should be left alone on sim mode. Maybe they can't code it like that, I don't know. But if they can they definitely should.
The fact is, us sim guys are vastly outnumbered by the comp crowd. Just watch any Youtube video of Madden and its on comp.
This is how gaming is trending these days. Competitive gaming is growing at a huge rate and game companies have to keep up with that demand and that's why most games are going that direction. It's where the money is. MUT and all the other card collecting games in all other sports games are printing money for them. It only stands to reason they would start pouring more resources into those modes and less into franchise modes. MLB The Show is trending this way as well. DD is huge and it's basically their competitive mode. They didn't do much with franchise this year either.
It's sad for the sim guys, but we're a dying breed in sports gaming.

Unless they edited the blog for grammar corrections since I read it, they did the opposite. They increased the XP cost of skill points for young players, meaning it's more difficult now for young players to progress than it was pre-update.
And it's not like rookies progressed well before the update to begin with.

The three different play styles is great, but I guess im not really seeing the follow thru from what I thought they meant or were maybe capable of when it was first implemented.
The game will be ruined thanks to these clowns.
The game will be ruined thanks to these clowns.
Yep. Totally agree. But you do have to give them credit. It seems like they are really trying to build a realistic football game. They just keep having to nurf it because of the comp crowd.
One of two things will come out of this. They will actually utilize the three game styles and keep all this stuff in sim mode, or they will just say screw it, why bother trying to make a realistic football game when we just have to change it to appease a certain group every year.
1. Nerfing the new kick meter so less kicks were missed.
2. Nerfing the amount of penalties called because competitive players didn't like it.
3. Nerfing zone coverage because passing was "too hard".
4. Speeding up authentic QB audible animations because the comp. crowd can't call 23 audibles in 15 seconds at the line of scrimmage anymore.
Let me know if I missed any. Yet, the Sim crowd still can't get full coaching staffs, editable weather, retractable CFM roofs, functioning contract logic, a reworked free agency system, better CPU roster management logic when it comes to young QBs, or additional sliders for CFM specific items such as likelihood of a coach being fired, likelihood of relocation, salary cap growth, likelihood of star players leaving for free agency, trade frequency, etc.
Granted, I will say I love playing Madden, especially franchise. I'm a huge football fan. I'm thrilled with the additions of schemes, custom draft classes, player archetypes, additional QB cadences, RPM, the new halftime show, and snapshots. I think this is a big year for Madden. I also loved the addition of Frostbite in '18, the ball carrier moves in '17, the reworked receiving game in '16, and overhauled defensive controls in '15. Madden is on a nice upward trajectory.
But, the Sim additions that are made every year need to be consistently kept in place at least for sim players. A dev like Clint has the background knowledge of the NFL to explain to the comp crowd why these additions to the game need to stay and not be toned down as to properly represent the sport. It's understandable that Madden is just a game. I get that. But, these additions are not hard to adapt to as a player and actually make the game more competitive, maybe with the exception of penalty randomness as a viable complaint for comp guys. But when it comes to audibles, zone coverage, and kicking...to the comp crowd, here's how you respond to those items in a competitive yet authentic fashion
1. Master the kick meter
2. Make better pre snap reads than your opponent.
3. Choose a better play initially that way you don't have to audible as much. Or set custom audibles.
This isn't rocket science. It's just football.

I will say, the human running is better since this patch, the cpu running is a little better but overall the cpu sucks at running even with a good o-line against a bad d-line.
The game is still a lot of fun and with a couple tweaks here and there with the sliders it plays really really good.

I think you are really missing out. Despite that statement being true about the H2H crowd.. this is by far their best product in a LONG time. The gameplay is very solid and actually feels more like football than anything in quite some time.

1) Take a roster that’s meshes with the rating levels of the generated players.
2) Set your XP Sliders that the highest Dev Trait provides the XP earned you want to see at that Trait
- Superstar is suppose to be rarely generated, so you might chose Star Trait to use
Thank you for the version number, I wasn't sure if mine updated
I'm also quite worried that they will patch the defense out of this game to please the casual and competitive crowds.
I may be underselling those crowds' interest in learning to adapt. I hope I am.
Never understood why they would spend 9 months changing things for the game, then undo many of them a week before full launch...seems like a disconnect in what direction they should go from day 1. They already know the Comp crowd is going to moan about anything sim like (realistic) they put in...

Use the XP Progression sliders to tune them to your liking. We have a tool box to use. I also think the easier for older players move is to counter the rapid regression and keep them in the league a little longer (talking about elite stars who may regress too fast). I am willing to see how it plays out and test it and then tune the sliders to get it where I want. Also custom rosters are your friend.

Yes we are a dying breed. It is a cold hard fact. So what we can do is continue to give each other ideas, settings and methods so we can make a sim game out of it.
I knew it was all window dressing after a week with the game....really pissed me off to be honest. It was a hoodwink feature and I don’t use that term loosely.
I do like the notes on the patch though. The beta needed a clean up for sure.I just hop they did not break something else in the process. This is the usual par for the course with Madden the last 4 years. After the Madden Bowl the game plays great (16 and 18 I am talking about, 15 and 17 was hopeless).
Tuesday can’t get here soon enough and we can play it for ourselves and see what is what with this day one patch.
Can folks only using EA Access play with this patch, or only those who have the full game on digital download/physical copy?
I'd love to get more detail on this and see if there's actually something different about the QB AI. It looks stellar in the EA Access version.

Great. Please be frank.
I'm all for giving EA credit where they deserve it and criticism where they deserve it.
I'm loving EA Access, but I will not buy the release version if they broke something in this patch that has to get fixed. That always takes several, several weeks, and the fixes are never in the favor of the sim crowd until the very end of the cycle.

Feels the same for the most part to me so far, players may be just a tick faster but nothing unrealistic but I need more time to further evaluate.

Hmmm, strange
It is disappointing for me too, truly. I was looking forward to finally playing an NFL game after a more than year without playing one on current-gen. I'll be keeping a close eye on the forums for sure. But I want to make sure I get past the "honeymoon phase" with the game where everyone is just happy to have a new game. I'm still very disappointed with the lack of franchise upgrades, so the on-field gameplay, authenticity, and attention to detail are going to have to be very strong for me to make a purchase.
Everyone always says "Vote with your wallet" and at this point that's all I can do. I know my sale is beyond insignificant to EA, but it's the only power I have as a consumer to show my displeasure with things.
Again, I want to like the game. I want to play a good NFL game again. I bought every Madden from probably Madden 95 on Genesis up to Madden 17 on PS4. I used to buy every NFL Gameday on PS1, every NFL Fever and NFL 2K on Xbox. I used to buy three or more NFL games a year, I'm an NFL and football diehard. It's not ideal to sit out another year but I'm prepared to do it if they want to keep walking back the few sim features we have left.
And in no way do I put this on the dev team. I believe they want to make a good sim football game. But I also believe that the decision ultimately isn't there's to make.

My other two new XB1 profiles I haven’t started the trials with yet got the prompt for the update.
It is exactly what i thought it would be from the beginning. Different tuners. They are not making three different games with different code. They are making one game with 3 different tuner sets for the limited things that can be tuned. That one game is being made for competitive mode.

So you knew that defensive pass interference would be removed due to the competitive mode in 18? In the beginning they never stated that certain animations would have to be removed for all modes across the board. They basically never mentioned it until people started blowing the whistle in sim mode. I understand the tweaking under the hood aspect, but with the patches everyone gets them. Its not like the patches come out for the separate modes which I thought in the beginning was the intent. So we could have our mode & the competitive would have theirs. I dont want to get the thread off topic, so I'll move on.

The update for gameplay went live way before EA access. In version 1.0.3

Twitter is a great place to get answers quickly if you show some concern or constructive dialogue:
From Clint:
For awareness, the QB stuff went live last Friday, so you’ve been playing on it the whole time. If you didn’t notice a difference until notes came out, I’d say the integrity of feature remained intact.
Do you have anything specifically that got worse since the beta, or just expressing concern over the update notes?
If that is the case, then I have no qualms about the QB presnap speed. Weird that they now mention that everyone had the patch from Wednesday.

My PC version updated but now it will no longer launch after that update. Origin will minimize then after a few seconds pop back up and the game never starts, it worked fine for 2 days so now I'm pretty pissed was looking forward to playing this morning when I got up and instead I spent 2.5 hours trying to get this working again. All my other Origin games still work fine including some other Frostbite engine ones.

I tried to uninstall the game and reinstall, tried to uninstall Origin and reinstall. Tried to run both Origin and game as Administrator, all of this with my AV disabled as well. So far nothing is working, pretty frustrated. I had this issue with another Origin game once and running Origin as admin allowed it to start. Later they patched that game and it worked normally but nothing is working for me on Madden at the moment.
I did not know. I was not surprised.

Looks like another year with hurricane force winds in every game, blowing endzone to endzone.
Also, is this one of those "Day Zero" updates that actually comes out on "Day 11" like Madden '18, or at they not putting a date on this one to avoid that issue?

Off to the lab... Been enjoying myself so far. Even if running is like beating my head against the wall. But I play lotto, so I guess I dig that feeling.
Very annoying they did not see this

Was this an automatic celebration? Or was this user controlled?

I also ran several slants in a game as ATL vs. NO, and Julio got shut down on consecutive plays by Lattimore. I'm not seeing the slants/drags are cheese thing, personally.
The amount of defense in the game is astounding. The coverage, in both man and zone, is the best I've seen it. It's really something. I just pray they don't patch it out of the game, lol.

I agree with you 100%. Gameplay has been excellent imo...atleast on All Madden with slider adjustments. Really like how the coverage is playing this yr. Only problem Im having is putting the game down.

I’d agree with all of this as well. Coverage and defense is best I’ve seen in a madden game. That’s with no slider adjustments as well which is a great thing.
Exactly, I actually have left pass reaction/coverage at default which is always a good thing. Havent felt the need to adjust.
Yes, agreed. What's crazy is that there's TONS of room to tune this to taste. If there's this much D out of the box, you can tune it down by 50% to match your play level and you can tune it up as you get better at the game during the course of the year. It seems like the game will have lots of "give" in that regard this year.
I can't overstate how much better the QB pocket intelligence is re: taking sacks and throwing routes that used to have to be edited out of the game. That, Mil, has me agreeing with you...I wish I could go buy the release version today!
Are they already getting heat? For what? I know about the song stuff, but on game play?

Nice man!! Can you post Josh Allen’s? I know he was scanned because they posted pics of him there on twitter. I didn’t realize EA was waiting this long to add these scans in the game. There are a lot of rookies they showed being scanned on twitter who don’t have their scans in the game still.

Yep, PS4 is up to 1.05 now.
Why doesn't this jackwagon just stick to Fortnight or LoL if he hates football so much?
Played a game earlier after updating with this new one.
Running was insanely easy and I had a bunch more sacks. Not sure if it is the patch or just a random good game on my part.
Also, after 1.0.9 I noticed that exterior shots of stadiums prior to each game are more common. They look nice.

Play more running seems to be the same challenging but rewarding

I've played probably 12-14 games and I have good ones like this and horrible games. I think there is a good variety. It also seems like the teams that are supposed to be really good are, and the crappy ones are pretty crappy.
But still too early to tell if this will be the way the game plays consistently.
Please god tell me someone is still seeing these animations. Please.
@ClintOldenburg This has been the best madden gameplay in such a long time, started to finally get immersion with QB animations and you guys stripped them down. Why are simulation fans getting the short end again? Why can't this be separated from H2H players, it really sucks.

I’m seeing all of them still they just tuned the speed when the play clock is close to zero and in 2 min drives

This right here ^^^^ sums it up. In previous Maddens if you played on All-Pro, all teams seemed to match the difficulty level so they were all generally just as easy or difficult to beat.
Currently, better teams play better and do so much better than previous Maddens. The great side effect of this experience is this: If I play on All-Pro and I am playing as the worst team against the best team, I am getting a more difficult level of play than if I were playing as the best team against the worst team.
Essentially each skill level: Rookie, Pro, All-Pro, All-Madden now has additional skill levels of difficulty because ratings and such matter more.
Example: On All-Pro I have the base skill level of All-Pro, then I have:
Usering (75) OVR team versus (94) OVR team (equals a level of difficulty within All-Pro.
Usering (75) OVR Team versus (85) OVR team (equals a different level of difficulty within All-Pro.
And so on and so on. Essentially we 4 base skill levels and maybe 50 minor skill levels based on team quality we are usering and team quality of our CPU opponent. Awesome stuff.
Am I the only one seeing this? If I'm not delusional and defense has been patched out/down, I'm not nearly as keen on getting the game.
Can anyone else on 1.10 weigh in, especially on coverage vs. the earlier 1.09 build?

Because they are the cancer that ruins any realism. Same reason i cannot stand that SDS caters to the idiots who obsess over Diamond Dynasty in MLB the show.
I just want realistic sports games.

Seems to be a yearly thing with Madden, each patch the defense gets progressively worse.

I was waiting to use my last 5 hours to see the difference with the update. I was worried about this happening if it’s true. I could see them catering to the masses as it was good out of box. Curious to check that out and here your take after more games...

So it seems it’s already started happening. Seems like the different settings such as simulation, arcade, etc, really don’t mean much and don’t really help at all. They don’t seem to be able to keep enough separate between them.
I squeezed a few balls into tight coverage as well. Had a sweet out route completion where the CB was right on me but the ball was placed perfectly and my WR caught with the DB all over him.
And also, slants are still well covered by DB's and LB's in general. I wasn't able to to use them a lot. Completed a few that were squeezed in there. Definitely not a lot of separation.
PVarick, that's comforting. I could have just had an off performance. I hope that's the case.
I'll just go ahead and say it...
Nice arms brah!

Also no mention of the faulty dynamic development trait feature that I and many others reported during beta. It's better since release but still needs a rework. Players will literally win mvp and lose their superstar trait while non pro bowlers will get promoted, regardless of age. The whole system is random and unrealistic. And not even touched, really disappointing.
Got the pc version so I could spend a great deal of time coming up with xp sliders ahead of release and I probably have to restart from scratch now which is a bummer too, but was kind of expecting it. Just wish these changes made more sense.

Easiest way is to go to madden folder and you’ll see something right above the madden exe called build.. right click it and hit open with notepad. It gives you the full build info. Which updates after each patch. DO NOT EDIT ANYTHING IN THIS FILE.
Thanks, I see the file, but didn't see anything within it that had a version number.
I gave him my opinion on Twitter.

Yep agree... Running game is pretty good now. I'm just fine tuning the passing and D a bit them will be happy to roll with it.
I agree but I have stated this before the acceleration ratings are very inflated ..If I see a db under 90 acceleration its a rarity..DL very inflated.to an extent they have to manipulate rosters to achieve there gameplay improvements..this is why people who edit rosters see a very different game than ea stock rosters..
Same here.
Agreed, with roster & trait adjustments/edits the game is playing really well for my tastes. It has become a yearly ritual for me. In the end its worth it for me. Thats why the ability to edit rosters is so important, EA can have their version & I can have mine.

None that I know of. I just do my own
Yep, and there’s no explanation/reason of why this needed to be done.
Unless it’s a legit bug, they should wait at least 2 weeks before doing any tuning to the game.
Can’t say it’s a community wish because the patch was done before anyone had the game.
Even worse is when a Game Changer says I’m “overreacting” when I Tweeted about these abrupt pre-release game tunings that altar things, specifically about trying to edit a 405 player Draft Class w/out any Global editing finctionality.
Except they are changed. It’s the very first thing I noticed when I played with new patch. Maybe they’re still there but it’s not like it was.
But the gameplay is very good right now so I’m gonna let it be.
Good man.
10 char.
But the gameplay is very good right now so I’m gonna let it be.
To be honest I didnt even notice the difference from the beta & now. Maybe they run to the line quicker? Still wish they didnt touch it, but I knew it wasnt going to take long.
I was glad when Mills showed that the flaw was still there in his test CFM stream, that made it more likely to get fixed.
Yea, it definitely was not supposed to be there.
