  1. I don't mean for this to come out like a complaint—and I don't play tons of games so maybe this is more standard than I know—but I don't think I've ever played a game that has this many large-scale patches.
I suppose it wouldn't be as much of a bother if my internet could handle these updates like I figured it would. I've never had an internet speed issue (uploads and downloads are generally very fast in all other realms) but for whatever reason, 2K updates crawl for me every single time. I'm looking at a two-hour download today. I'm pretty sure downloading all of Red Dead Redemption 2 went faster than any of these patches, in fact.
It's nice to see 2K being attentive but it's just, man, these weekly updates right when I get home from work and actually have a moment to play before the gym can be rough sometimes (I know, first world problem).

While you dont want to come off as complaining, due to all the patches, because many of us remember when there wasnt patches, and if a game was crap on day 1, you were SOL, but for those of us who dont have the fastest internet speeds, it does kind of suck, when your coming in from working all day, and just want to relax, and find out you got to wait a long time for a new patch to download and install. I leave my PS4 in rest mode, but sometimes it dont start downloading till I fire it up to play, for some reason. Hopefully 1 day we will have high speed internet out here. I use to have it, when I lived close enough to town, where we could get it, but I bought my sister part out with my brother, after our mom passed away, so it sucks, having to go back to a slow speed internet after having a fast one.
    Ps4 player here.
3gb download used to take me 3 hours. Literally just switched to a new internet as they dropped the 20+gb update last time(they finally ran lines out here).
So yeah its pretty crappy that there are so many high gb updates especially since they havent even fixed some of the biggest complaints from the community. Not to mention barely added anything compared to 2k19 anyways so WTF is with these updates
Still no fix for the MyCareer Endorsements bug, still not getting my store discounts or free nike shoes that i was suppose to get from my shoe deal in the game. When will this finally be fixed, been a damn month already.
I've said it every patch and no luck yet but I'll say it yet again For the love of God please fix the PS4 Pro stutter/lag issue!
Every other complaint and issue people have with the game seems miniscule in comparison. The game at least functions and is playable with those issues. The Pro lag nearly makes the game unplayable and unenjoyable.
Not to complain but I’m going to complain ... lol
These long *** updates aren’t cool lol. It’s like every two weeks too haaa.
After a long day of work, just wanted to kind of crash on the couch and chill out a bit

am guessing this patch is to patch the other previous patches....
it's like this game is not fully released until the year changes when the patching stops
6 patches already in just over a month of release ...
I swear this game release in beta stage and the paying consumers are actually testers...
waiting for the patch notes as to to why its 23.44GB

Have your guys seen that you can stream to your phone from PS4 at home. I started my download at work. As soon as I saw this. You can even connect your PS4 controller to your phone via Bluetooth. And I wouldn't use this to play games. But for things like this. Download before you get home. It's cool.

Jesus Christ I'm sick of all these patches, especially since it's all about online MyPark crap that I don't care about. 3 hrs plus for every patch and it's like one every six days now

Personally, I don't mind the patches. If anything, I appreciate them. I'd hate for the game to stay as it was at launch. I liked the gameplay but there were a lot of problems.
Just one man's opinion though. I'm a single guy without much responsibility so I can find other things to do while it's updating.
Here's hoping morale is improved in MyLeague
How can people be tired of patches? They are free and fix glitches. Plus they normally sneak art updates in them.
Also save me the stuff about old games didn’t need patches...no they did, they just didn’t get them.

I see both sides. Like I don't know people internet connection speeds or how much they pay for the internet.
Let me share an old story. But around 2k9 I think. Anyone remember the double team glitch where any double team . Locked you into a steal animation. I never knew about it. Until I went over to my friends house. Got into a close game. And my friend started trapping me. I lost the game. And didn't understand how that was possible. Went home tried the same thing. And it wasn't possible. Come to find out. My friend didn't WiFi. They had the internet. But no router. So for the next 2 and half years. I would switch PS3 with him. And update his PS4 at my place. I eventually got them a router for their house.
So yeah it's great the game is getting improved. My story is from years ago. I'm sure everyone has the internet in their house now a days. Router are being given away for free now by ISP. But I can't imagine anyone that has limited internet or bandwidth sucks (most likely) or charged per GB/MB to use the internet.
Not everyone situation is the same I guess.

I switched from PC to PS4 this year (not because I've given up on PC, but because my toddler doesn't like when I use my computer because it means it's harder for her to climb on me whenever she wants) and I feel the pain every time there's a patch. The console file structure for 2K is a mess so the patches are always gigantic. On PC they were always much smaller.
For me it's luckily just an inconvenience if I have to wait for the download or whatever, but I feel really bad for anyone with capped internet or living in places without good service.

in total Filesize, on the PS4.

    • Patch 1.01 = 23 Gigs on Ps4.
    • Patch 1.02 = 7 Gigs on Ps4.
    • Patch 1.03 = 24 Gigs on Ps4.
    • Patch 1.04 = 127 Megs on Ps4.
    • Patch 1.05 = 20 Gigs on Ps4.
    • Patch 1.06 = 15 Gigs on Ps4.

By comparison, the entire NBA 2k20 game was only about 45-50 gigs (in total) for me to download on Day 1, if i remember correctly.
I have a regular 9-5 job.... so I lose MANY HOURS of my 'limited' gaming time, whenever I am forced to download yet ANOTHER MASSIVE 2k patch.
That's why I'm (personally) "tired of their patches."
Instead of asking why are people tired of 2k patches?...
Perhaps we should all be asking the 2k Developers: "Why are ALL these patches (this year) so damn BIG???? Why do we have to download a file that is equivalent in size to HALF THE ENTIRE GAME every single week?? What's really going on?? This is absurd."
I just don't understand these patch sizes. These patches are damn near a size of a full game for just some hot fixes here and there. Finally had some free time for some 2k and I'm met with another ridiculous 10+ gb size patch. Doesn't help that my ISP has its internet plans capped at 25 mbps in my area either :brickwall:
Yea, these patches are annoying as heck. I can see if it's lke, 2-5GB worth. But this is like, the third 15+ GB patch for a game that's been out for a month. That's more GB than the base game took to install at this point (or close to it).
I just wanted to come home and play a game or 2 before bed, and now I can't because I have to download a 20GB patch that won't download for about an hour. Screw it, I guess I'll go shower again, and eat what was supposed to be my leftovers.
I appreciate them fixing the game, but maybe next time, don't release a game that needs 60GB+ worth of updates in the first month?

Ah I didnt know that, although I would have no clue how to do it, I can barely figure out my cell phone, just to use it, lol. I work for myself, and now days, Im basically retired, so its not a huge deal to me, but for those who do work away from home, and want to come home and relax and play a game, only to find out they cant because yet another big patch came out, I can understand their frustration.
I dont know anything about electronics and making games, and Im sure there is a lot of tedious work involved, and you cant catch every glitch before the release date, but its like they put out a game that they knew wasnt finished and had a lot of issues. So people do have every right to be upset. Patches are a good thing, until it starts allowing companies to put out a game they know isnt finished. But on the other hand, Im glad the ability is there to fix issues. Its like a double edged sword of sorts that we the consumer has to deal with, on one hand, the ability is there, unlike how it use to be, to fix things, but it also allows a company to release a unfinished product.

    I hate "many fixes"

This bothers me too.....what exactly are these "many more fixes"? Tell me about the fixes, I want to know about all of the fixes.
This many patches in only about a months time is not good. How in the world is anyone ever supposed to get used to how the game plays if they keep changing various aspects of gameplay what seems like every week?
I'm assuming most conplaining are playing mode's that don't disconnect periodically during timeouts?
I'm sorry you have to wait a bit to play for one night, but issues like that absolutely need to be fixed,. Ya'll will survive, lol.

How can people be tired of patches?
Well, here's my reason... I live in an area that DOES NOT have any high-speed Internet Providers available.... So a 10+ gig patch takes at least 8-10 hours for me to download. smh.
Today's patch 1.06 will take me about 13 hours or so, to download.
Don't get me wrong... I don't have ANY problems watching HD movies/tv shows on Netflix or HBO Now online. Those other websites download just fine. Always.
And I don't have any problems downloading updates for ANY OTHER PS4 games I play. Those download just fine. Always. They usually only take about 2 hours to download patches from various other Game Developers... but for some reason... 2k's patches are ALWAYS slow as hell (for me) when it comes time to download their 'updates'.
This game dropped on Sept. 6th... and today is Oct. 10th... and in just ONE single month, 2K has dropped 6 different patches that equal in total Filesize, on the PS4.

    • Patch 1.01 = 23 Gigs on Ps4.
    • Patch 1.02 = 7 Gigs on Ps4.

I wish XBone gave an estimated time but either way I ain't gonna be able to play tonight lol. I probably don't have the fastest internet. It's been downloading a probable good hour and a half and mine is only on 24% completion, so probably about a 6 hour download for me.
I get that it's aggravating but I really appreciate the patches we've had so far. I thought 1.05 was really good in terms of fixing the team options glitch and at least providing some type of offline GM Mode. I know those modes still need improvement but...that's what these patches are for.

Truthfully, this has been my biggest gripe about the patches. Now, we have to guess what changes were made the gameplay.

and listen to a bunch of "in their head only" posts about how changed certain aspects of game play are.
Imagine buying a sandwich. Halfway through the sandwich, the person who made it takes it to the back for like 20 minutes and brings it back to you.
You ask them what they did and they say they added more lettuce, took away some mayo, and “many more changes”.
Then they fade back into the kitchen, telling you nothing more.
This is basically what 2k does when they drop these 15+ gig patches, with 3 lines of patch notes and say “many more fixes”. Fix up 2k cmon man
Love that they are working on the game. Those that are upset, will be upset. I do agree that hopefully the gameplay doesn’t get changed AND they need to explain what they did to the tiniest detail in these.. but cmon now.
Ppl complain 2k don’t listen.. okay, 2k uses a patch to fix things to make ppl happy or a demographic happy.. they could of just left this game how they gave it to us, and we would of kept crying but STILL bought next years.
If it’s art updates, we need to know cause there are a demo of ppl that love those things. Whatever the case, try to look at this as improvements and “hearing the community”.
It’s World Mental Health Day, let’s try to look at the positive even though there are hella things that are frustrating in the game. 😊
2K's been using the same legacy code base for years now, and it's had problems with having to re-download huge portions of the game for minor fixes for years.
Unlike other games in which the size of the patch is proportional to how much content is in it, 2Ks seem to have to basically patch everything that surrounds the updated parts due to ****ty legacy issues.
Wonder if they will properly re-build everything for next gen consoles, or keep the same crap process? And don't get me started on the floating "UPDATE REQUIRED" message...

So leave the issues in because people don’t want to download a patch?

Just chill dang you complaining because your situation is different.
No put out a game that doesn't require 6 patches in a month.
I paid $60 for 2K, yet I've spent an extra $40 in 30 days because my internet provider charges me extra when I go over my limit.
I have 2 PS4s in my house so 200GBs in updates.
The reason why the update was so big imo is probably because of this park event that's supposed to happen this weekend. I've noticed after every huge patch there's a major park change that follows. This weekend is the race car event.
    BaseballCtchr
So leave the issues in because people don’t want to download a patch?

The filesize of the original game was about 48 Gigs... on Day 1. (on the PS4)
Patches that are over 10+ or 20+ gigs in filesize is equivalent to "needing updates" to between 1/3 to 1/2..... OF ALL THE CODE & GRAPHIC ASSETS IN THE WHOLE GAME.
If you are updating ALMOST HALF of the code in a single patch.... it means your software probably was NOT tested thoroughly enough. Because that's 35%-50% of the whole game needing "changes".
If you are updating ALMOST HALF of the code... at least once per week... for a whole month... and you drop 6 different patches in less than 35 days... it usually means your software was released
That is completely UNACCEPTABLE Software Development Quality in most other businesses.
    Solution?
Wait an extra 35 days before releasing the software to the "general public". Problem Solved.
The very fact that certain graphic elements (like the ENTIRE user interface of the "options" menu) were COMPLETELY modified to add iconography is a clear indication that the product "was not completed" by Day 1.
The reality is... the game should have dropped during the first week of October (Instead of early September) and there would probably only be 1 or 2 patches by now.... Not 6.... And there wouldn't be 90+ GIGS worth of "edits" made over the last 6 weeks... for a game that is only 48 GIGS total filesize.
    Just my opinion.

I’m not complaining, just don’t understand people complaining when things get fixed because “the file size is too big.”
I’m an offline player so I don’t really care if they fix park/my career stuff.
I understand people saying don’t release a game that needs 6 patches but you know what company you are buying a game from and their history. At this point you accept it or don’t buy it.

how about releasing the game without these issues in the first place?
The only thing that piss me off with patches is i dont lay any online modes. and usually the list of fix are in that darn category. im lloking for gameplay and art updates only. there should be a box to tick which one to update your game to avoid all this large and slow patches update.
why should i wait for it long enough and then i dont even see a single update on the mode im playing(strictly offline my league or PN) like that green splash and huge badge under the player that shouldnt be there in the first place as its not NBA JAM. they should have a off button for this by now. its a request since the drop.
NBA players update that seems like a game of where is waldo because you have to check again one by one. seriously (Razor is in 2k already, i expect this to be part of every patch by now) and should be mentioned
    that goddarn headband cmon.
shooting delay(slow shooting animation), movement delay, defense from halfcourt on fastbreak still has issues.
i dont need any of this online updates, i dont care whats happening there im pretty sure non of this online players care about offline modes. so why dont have a patch that you can tick the box to which update you preferred.
I havent download the patch so please tell me that there is any updaet on the things that i just mentioned...any?
not be able to change uniforms after more then 1 month since game is out IS JUST LAUGHABLE!!! (in my league online mode) not to mention other bugs!

Do most other games out there have massive patches like 2k? Interested because 2k is the only game I play

I'm on Xbox and I can assure you that today it's normal to see patches that range from 5 to 15 GBs for every game, but sometimes you can also see a 150 MB patch.
People complaining about an early release date... it's simple, the game HAS to come out every year on this date, ready or not. If it's not ready it will be patched. These are commercial laws unfortunately and I don't like them too. I don't have Internet problems like speed or caps, but I don't like the "many more fixes" approach when reading patch notes.
Regarding the size of patches I agree on the fact that they must be art updates for MyPark events, clothing you can purchase, and hopefully art that impacts all different game modes. I'm an offline MyLeague player, so I always hope for new uniforms, new art for the arenas, new shoes, new face updates, accessories updates. All the STATEMENT uniforms have been introduced in the last few days. That's the kind of art I care about.
How missing jersey selection in MLO is still not fixed??
Problems with saving rotations, playbooks, defensive settings in MLO are also not adressed. :y5::y5:
Really don´t get why this mode is just overlooked by 2k.. (I mean I know the reason... It doesn´t bring 2k any money, but still... damn)

Oh ****... Let's start! Because that is possibly the second most annoying thing after Green releases. And I'm talking visual. Like I throw up Everytime. I just played in a game where we kept fouling each other in a very close game. But we're at the free throw line. Green every single FT. Like WTF. Who's lame idea was this Green release thing!

Ok tried the patch and I don't see anything major updated on the gameplay front. Maybe they tweeked it but who knows? CPU green releases are still there and still annoying as ****. WAY TOO MANY GREENS WHEN THE CPU GOES FOR A LAYUP.
Why do they do the patch notes like its the little things thread where players will have to discover whats added? It's ridiculous!

    Indeed.
I was thinking this as I was posting Harden's move.
Why make things like brand new animations and scans an Easter Egg hunt?
I mean, some games, like for example The Division, have the equal of 10 pages of Word on every patch release, 10 pages of explanation on every single thing that's been touched. If you write "many more fixes" I read it as "too many fixes to write them down it would take too much time".
Then I suspect that the fixes are not so many and the other 22 GB of data is MyPark stuff like two Formula 1 car that spin around a basketball court or a castle with basketball court in it. I really miss the old time offline NBA 2K... I'm an old timer...

Man no offense to whoever chose to keep it this way, but it was such a silly idea if we're being honest. I mean can't you at least give us the option to turn this stuff off? It's like they straight up just forgot about the immersiveness. Not everyone wants to see things on the screen...some ppl just want to have an immersive basketball experience. All these on screen stuff (percentages, green release flashes, ect) really kill that kind of experience.

Oh yes finallly they did it FINALLY. At last they fixed it maan yessss it's fixed Yess finally 'many more fixes' are fixed!

a move he said he wont use in the regular season..players test stuff out in the preseason.

I know those modes still need improvement but...that's what these patches are for.

xbox does give an estimated time and percentage. its been that way since the last xbox update. not 2k update. but MS xbox update.
    The 24th Letter
They added Hardens one legged step back BTW
    https://streamable.com/nv7g4

Maybe they should wait until he actually uses it in the regular season and find out how well he can hit it.
But it's 2k and a star so I'm sure he will be coded to knock it down at 70% and the fanboys will whine that he doesn't hit it at a higher percentage
The game just needs more time before it’s released. I appreciate their continued effort to improve the game but if the game released now, wouldn’t it be better? Maybe maybe not.

I'm on Xbox and I can assure you that today it's normal to see patches that range from 5 to 15 GBs for every game, but sometimes you can also see a 150 MB patch.
before the official start of the NBA Regular Season.
But notice that the release dates get pushed up. Year after year. While the NBA season start dates have remained largely the same. (i.e. they usually start the season during the last week in October.)
This year, they dropped NBA 2k20 game a whole BEFORE of the start of the NBA Regular Season, which provides them an "extra month" of sales... but also reduces the final Q/A Testing Period by a "whole month" at the same time.
If they had stuck to their "3-weeks of lead time before the NBA season starts" cycle... this year's game could've dropped during the first week in October (i.e. anywhere between September 30th to October 3rd) awhich gives 3 weeks of lead time before the NBA regular season starts...
And if they dropped the game during that first week in October... then we (probably) don't get 4 (out of 6) patches that total over 70+ GiGs worth of "last minute edits" during the month of September.
    Just my opinion.

The only thing that piss me off with patches is i dont lay any online modes. and usually the list of fix are in that darn category. im lloking for gameplay and art updates only. there should be a box to tick which one to update your game to avoid all this large and slow patches update.

Damn this. But I play online vs some friends every now and then but I'm forced to eat up my bandwidth and get throttle by my ISP. Mostly for updates to the park and mycareer :(
And LOL at "many more fixes".... I'd like to hold off on DL these updates but I have no clue if they actually improve the modes I really play

Respectfully, I Disagree with the red part.

They lost a "day" between NBA 2K19 and NBA 2K20....no matter the release date, it's still basically a one-year development period. The gradually pushed back the release date over many years before it became almost two months before the official season starts. For us PNO players, that's two months that we get to play with an injury-free roster.
I can think of a few reasons why patch notes are no longer included:
    1. Too many things to patch means people will complain how they released a game with some of the listed bugs
    2. People will complain that the bug that annoys them isn't fixed - potentially because not many bugs were fixed or much content was added
    3. The size of the patch doesn't even remotely correlate to the fixes listed and poses more questions/complaints
    4. They are so busy fixing things that patch notes are not high on the list of priorities

Does anyone think that the offline gameplay is different now? Like it’s a lot faster now?

I do yeah, but again it's me who know what.. :)
Well the rebounding takeover is completely broken because it no longer shows where the ball is going to go upon misses. At least in the park anyways.
Not sure what the point of the take over is now.
    Goffs
The only thing I can think of is art updates. Players, old school or maybe added sound files?
Anybody notice anything with the gameplay?

Guys, just because it is a 25 GB update, doesn't mean that it's 25 gigabytes of changes.
There might be a 5 GB file for player graphics, even if they only change one small piece of sweat for players, they are editing the 5 GB file so the whole thing has to be re downloaded.
This happens with elder scrolls online as well. Small fixes still ends up being a 20 GB patch.
I hope they change the update system in the next gen consoles. I'm sure it's a lot of tedious work and requires changes from the ground up to make the foundation of their game a bunch of separate files. Probably harder as a developer to patch that way too. But it needs to be done to fix these larger unnecessary patches.
Patches are necessary but it doesn't mean it needs to be 20 GB. At least in the future hopefully

    Huh? What do you mean?

Some people realize and feel some don't, that's what i'm saying.

can you tell us how to do it?

Hold R2 and RS Down, it's in his package from some other step backs now.
PS: Ofcourse I'd rather them fix PS4 Pro FPS drops and Stuttering than adding Harden one leg step back which he hasn't done in any NBA game yet. I want to play a smooth game yet all i can do is 48 minutes choppines of a per se AAA game sold 70 Euros (469TLs in Turkey) after 6 big patches and more than a month post release. Way to go 2k. Would you like me to give you more money so that you can fix PS4 Pro issues ? I get pissed from time to time which i have every right to. Sorry.

    Wait what?
Why is that even in the game anyway?
    This feature is trash!
IRL you can't see where the ball is going.

one thing I've noticed since the latest patch...
the second half of rec games are very laggy. It's like impossible to play defense. before the patch my lockdown was getting 4 steals and 2-3 blocks per... now like 1 and 1. and almost all my def. stats come in the first half now. my player even when the stamina is near 95-100 plays like he's drunk. I've noticed others guys not getting many steals or blocks either.
Having a hard time reading all the post in here. I am only interested in offline sim play. How does the game play after the latest patch compered to last years edition?
    Thanks!
So any news about a PC release of the patch? The last 5 patches we got basically a day after the console patches released but this one has been out for 4 days and no news on a PC update.

Anybody know how to get your player to dunk Ally Oops. I have a 85 dunk and with the Pro package but he refuses to dunk allyoops

timing the shooting button works for me.
    Here’s my thoughts on 2K20
I played tons of nba2k19, got a guy to 96 multiple nba seasons played in career on different builds, played 1000 park games and had tons of fun.
Excited for 20 but now that its out, the game feels dead and broken with all the glitches. Sure, there were a few glitches in 2k19 with vc but in 20, theres a whole demigod glitch, badge glitch, suit glitch and broken events and the game just feels dead.
I’ve already moved on from 2k because of this, the game already has 7 patches within a month, the game shouldn’t even have been released.
Plus all thats upvoted on this subreddit are memes...
    What do y’all think?

Either this patch ruined gameplay, or gameplay in MyLeague is substantially different than play now..

My thoughts as well, maybe it´s due to team chemistry/player morale but it feel worse and dumber in MyLeague

When did everything get so slow??? I hate this man.. they had all of that **** fixed.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That was the previous patch. It really affected the slow bigs more than anyone else. I don’t think this patch changed that. Offline you can adjust the movement sliders to fix if you like (bump the minimum number up).

I’m starting to think it’s tied to standing dunk .
I just hope shooting doesn’t get changed again in the next patch. Kind of frustrating .

I used to love playing 2k with injury free rosters but the tier system ruined that.
Wizards with John Wall and Beal are a tier 3 team from the jump - classic teams with star players are in tier 3 while I’m just trying to play with Devin Booker on the Suns lol

I think it’s more to do with your vertical rating.
I’m a 2 way finisher with no points in standing dunk and I make alleyoops all the time. As long as I’m running with a clean lane it’s a guaranteed bucket - just wish my teammates in the rec would throw them instead of pressing X and easy buckets are stolen lol

I dunno what mike's going to do but the replies are funny. Everyone wants dribble controls from the older games and refuse to adjust to 2k20's dribbling system. Some are claiming theres no variety but 90% of guards i played in past games had the same animations/dribble moves and combos.
