NBA 2K20 Demo Available Now - MyPLAYER Builder Trailer and Breakdown on What's in the Demo
The NBA 2K20 demo is available now for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. 2K has also released a new trailer going over the MyPLAYER builder and 2KTV has released a video breaking down what’s in the demo.
The NBA 2K20 companion is available as well, so get those facescans in after you log into the demo.
I'm not getting a download button.
Finally got it. Downloading.

Unfortunately it's been like that for awhile now...
So do i understand it correctly that the Demo. only evolves around myplayer? no Standard 5on5 basketball?
Why there no pre-order for NBA 2k20 in eshop for switch ???
sucks being at work all damn day 😢
In the middle of a 12 hour shift but still wont be able to play it because of my infant. So most likely won't be able to start until her nap time tomorrow afternoon:frown:

OMG thanks for this, because by default you don't see this and I was thinking all I can do is a damn shoot around ? To make the screen pop up, you have to hit the back button on the Xbox.

Am I understanding this correctly? Once you play one test game, it just kicks you back to start from scratch? You don't actually get to start your MyCareer at all or save your build?
So essentially the demo is 6 test games and then you only have access to 2KU?

It's tough though. Like when it was one console. That's 120 bucks. Thank God PS4 has the share feature.
Make sure you play the demo first. I won't work without it.
I’ve played the demo, it’s fully installed and I’m just waiting for this to work so I can start my player builder

My wish that dribblers kept the ball in one hand and you could move freely with that wasn't granted but, overall it feels better than 2k19 just off this small handle I've had with it.
I think some of the branching animations from the gathers to the finishes are still a bit clunky and could be smoothed out, but thats such a minor gripe compared to how much better everything else feels.
The step-backs on the right stick feel awesome and responsive, and so do the dunks and the single animation layups.
super excited to get into the my player builder!
Also even on rookie so far the transition D seems much improved, not 100% perfect yet but seeing massive improvements and I'm sure it'll prob even be better on higher difficulties.
One of the biggest issues in 19 was players leaving their guys open at the 3 point line which I haven't seen yet and also prob THE biggest issue was that players basically would never pick up another man in transition. So if you had them guarding someone else, or if the primary defender was out of position still in the frontcourt noone would pick up their man.
I shot with lowry then intentionally just left curry open in transition to see how AI would respond and Norman powell picked up curry, and it had me switch on to klay.
Then another time I was way out of the picture with marc gasol, still in the backcourt and WCS was way up the court and powell picked him up/slowed him down until I got back with gasol.
Great to see so far.
There’s no cutscenes to skip.
This demo is not a MyCareer demo!
This is a player builder demo, and it’s nothing like they made us believe it was.
You create a MyPlayer and get to play ONE game with them. No changing something if you don’t like it, no switching around badges if you don’t like what you picked, no anything.
Once you confirm your selections, that’s it, one game and that created player is done, you don’t get to even go back in and look at their attributes.
And DONT QUIT OUT OF A GAME, because you don’t get to go back in and change anything, you just lose that game.
I quit out after the first quarter because I thought, because they said, I could make some changes. YOU CANT!

- Finally the DHO’s by a user are smooth and feel great!!! It’s a huge part of today’s game and has needed some love.
- The start and stop hesitation game is awesome! Once you get the feel of it it feels great. It really opens up some drives and speaking of drives so glad the blow by’s are back as it opens up the drive and kick game. It feels so good lulling defender to sleep then exploding! At least it does when using Kyle Lowry. The great part though is the help defense is nice and tough defenders like Draymond and Klay are not as easy to go by as it is versus Steph. On the flip side as a user the defense feels good with having to play angles and it seems that length, athleticism, and the good defenders stand out when playing with them as they should in those areas.
- I think the post game feels the best it’s been in a few years off of small sample but love the hooks and up and unders which I have not liked in years.
- Love the feel of the floaters and they look great! Realistic with good arc...
- I still hate the jab steps
- The pick and roll game feels good and the crab dribble feels 1000x better to me. Have split the pnr a few times now too.
- Piggy backing on that the reaction of user dribble input is nice! I’m also liking the separation in stepbacks more so than in the past.
- Don’t like I can’t dabble in plays with demo though.
- I really like the foot planting and player movement. The finished and gathers are nice too.
All in all I’m impressed! I hated 2k19 and shelved it after 2 days last year, but I can just feel and tell that 2k20 is by far the best on the court it’s ever been. It just feels polished and most all my pet peaves above are well done and we are just talking about a demo and the cpu on rookie...
From watching the videos I wasn’t that excited but after hands on it’s something you just need to feel. Hard to describe. It just feels good and night and day feel wise from 19 imo...

what you mean CPU bites on fakes ??
The build mode or CAP for builds also looks better. Can't wait to get home and try it out.
I love the gameplay just the demo is kinda pointless as i said

I love that CPU bites on Fakes
One thing that stood for me was the triple threat. They still don't mention the counter moves.
oh ok lol.. it is just demo that's why. i just want practice more in 2ku scrimmage for dribbling, shooting
You can practice all you want to your hearts content, just pointless for the myplayer. Me and I gues pretty much everyone was hoping that we could replay the same game over and over with the player you made and that you could edit again so we can compare builds against each other which was pretty much what they intended to do just they forgot that you can not make a decision on just one single game.
This forum does not care about My Player. Like it's a known thing lol. We care about the game. I don't if I'm talking for everyone lol. But it's why I come here. We care about the game. Which makes your part fo the game tick. So please take your negative views elsewhere. I promise you in a few months from now. You can complain and fight over "Builds", "archetypes" and dribble animations
I'm kidding of course.

I also noticed they still haven't done anything about dribble handoff and the passer setting a screen right after. It's such a HUGE part of the NBA. I'm surprised they couldn't fit it in.
And if anyone doesn't know what I'm talking about. I'm talking about throw and go. I'd like to say every team does this kind of action. Even the freaking ISO Rocket throw the ball to a big man and cut off him.

I think OG spoke on this, can't remember what he said exactly but they weren't able to get hand off screens in. It's something they're working on though.
I agree that would help with teams that have big men that can't shoot.
the story is unique or does it have different paths depending on how you play or what you choose?

Music to my ears. Without improved help D, it would be a matter of days before on ball D would be patched to be a sticky brick wall again to compensate. Love to hear this!

Vann great analysis you got me hyped to leave work early and get into this demo. Love hearing about DHO, PnR creativity, the existence of a drive and kick game, an improved deep post game, and floaters that function as what they are intended to do, skirt above the shot blocker. All things that are important to me as gameplay improvements.
CPU bites on fakes too...
Im a sucker for a deeper post game.

Like 23 and everyone else said I know Czar said they couldnt get the screen in, I also brought up to Czar the idea of having the option for the receiver of the handoff to cut backdoor and be able to receive a bounce pass from the big if you read that the D is overplaying.
Great analysis all of you guys. I havent checked twitter yet but seems like everyone is loving the gameplay and the main complaint is a lack of depth to testing out your myplayer.
And as far as pitch and go goes as a workaround I just do it manually by passing to gasol and DHO with a player. They might not set the pick after, but because the DHO is smooth you can attack off it now with an advantage like a pnr as long as you don’t stop before doing the DHO (otherwise Player doesn’t continue after the DHO). D stands for dribble lol
To be able to make a guy, and then test him at only a single overall for a single game, and then not even be able to LOOK at his stats after that... its brutal. I really expected better.

Ha, Don't worry I've been bothering those guys for about 3-4 years now about it lol. Probably since they put the 2002 Kings in the game last-gen lol
I just thought this was the year lol. The problem is probably balancing it out to normal pick and roll. You need to create a new AI for defending that.
Am I completely missing something?
Am I completely missing something?
No same for me

* Easier to blow by big men as a guard
* Speed differences finally apparent. Curry stole the ball and got to the rim before most guys got to half court
* The CPU switches on PnR more often than just leaving guys open
* Transition defence is changed but not there yet. Been getting blown out in the MyPlayer games because Thompson is always open for a transition 3 due to lack of CPU picking up all shooters in transition (seen Marc hugging Draymond instead of running to Klay)
* Way harder to string together dribbles as a non ball handler. Hopefully this means you can't just play a SF at PG with zero drawback like in prior years
Am I completely missing something?
I am not even able to download the demo on the switch. I cannot find it in the store, and neither can my friends. seems like in europe you cannot get it.

I think you have to hold down the X/A button
Triple threat game is still very bad. Dribbling is still very unresponsive and clunky.
Passing is too slow and unresponsive.
Player movement is really wonky and inconsistent.
Explosive players aren’t really explosive until you get the canned right animation.
Players are moving in mud. The physics still feel very bad.
The best athletes in the world feel anything but.
Already can tell this game is gonna get called garbage again.
Personally I’m leaning towards sitting this cycle out. But that’s just because I don’t feel like doing this whole thing all over again. Not enough new.

felt like the hop gathers were smoother on the sticks 2k18..last year i could only get them to work on the button and could only trigger the same 2 animations.
Definitely going to take more than a game or two to get used to the movement this year. A couple of hours in and I got the hang of it..
I've had about 10 unsuccessful uploads, all in good lighting, and half the time my front camera goes into side mode, even though it tries to take the pictures in portrait, essentially making me a code head. No one is talking about the face scan though

I’m not with the cynical approach. I think if you pick up 2K20 after 2k17 you’ll see a big jump. Completely different game.
Last year defense felt OP and cheesy. This year? I mean it depends on how good your players ratings, size, badges are. Also angles and gaps are better executed.
Not everyone is just stonewalling or blowing by via animation. There’s a lot more variety and openness.
Imo there’s more physicality where there used to be none, and that’s a big jump.
Already seen some beautiful spurs-like plays.
I think it’s important to acknowledge where the game has made leaps.
So let me take the half full approach here.

I noticed that too and I'm a little worried. It's almost like shot contests are just completely nerfed on whatever demo build this is. I had a jumping contest that would have been red in 2k19 register as 15%. Hope it's just a flukey demo thing or just that all shot contests are nerfed on rookie difficulty.

I just uploaded a video to toy around, pulled off some nice moves... This is just the beginning.
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RO_mEac7MEA
1) I can really tell the difference in speed. Made a slower SF first and couldn't make a thing. Followed with a quicker SG, buckets for days. Got so much better separate, was quicker to the basket, all that good stuff. I was a little nervous about the quick release badge being a thing, but now I'm thinking it will be super helpful and not as game breaking as I thought at first. I'll be trying that on a build as well as experimenting with some slower bigs.
2) The action buttons are awesome, but I really don't like the extra button press to get into the full playbook. It's clunky and not all that user friendly.
3) Player movement off the ball, overall, is absolutely incredible. Absolutely incredible.
4) I thought the broken line thing to let you know when to steal would be absolutely awful, but it's the opposite. It's fantastic. It takes tons of anticipation to know when the opportunity is going to present itself and that window is extremely quick, even at this lower difficulty.
Overall, I'm kind of excited about the potential here. It's really feeling like the kind of game where good basketball will finally win out over all the cheese.

It's actually a compliment to 2K and the progress they've made thus far.
The last few titles on PS3/360 (before transitioning over to next-gen) were some of the best overall 2K's to date.
From top to bottom there wasn't too many flaws, 2K14 is still a last-gen classic.
I think you'll like

Lol! Well we know you will take a hiatus on release to avoid the negative talk around here too. Hahaha... I was all in on 18, disappointed with 19, but I was still here lurking (mostly in the roster sections as usual), but this demo and 2 year layoff has me jonesin for some virtual hoops! I’m impressed with what I see!
I can’t see the basics they added changing too much?! Although I did see Mike posted a poll on Twitter that was 92% to 8% voting for a bigger shot release thingy?! Lol! I turn that [email protected] off! Crazy! Fingers crossed!
At least the things I’ve talked about that have bugged me for years all seem tweaked. DHO smooth, foot planting, contextual layups, nailed the switch and mismatches, no more brick wall defense, drive and kick game is nice, etc... only thing I’m not liking is jab steps and post jab steps. Unless it’s just the players I’m using (Gasol). I’d like to replicate Zbo with face up’s. I thought that was redone last year?

As with me lots of those things wasnt possible due to the movement and what people arent talking about, the new body up system.
They also have a lift system in there for drive and kicks so players move into better position instead of staying static in one spot behind the 3pt line.
Still trying to get the hand off and screen but they can't do it yet
Mike's poll, asking for a bigger shot meter.. man just smh
...and yes, once the game releases im out. Especially with the Live coo-coos not having anything to do, im not even interested in these people's arguments

I'm just popping in from lurking to say hello to the fam because I'll be out come game drop too.
Happy new year, y'all.
All the ones I've tried seem super slow compared to NBA 2K19.

Ya I like the drifts and lifts. It was funny though because I asked czar here on OS about the lifts from the corner players in a dev blog he did (17 or 18) and he told me it was already in. I had to dig for plays that had them built into the action.
I’m looking forward to seeing what you guys added X & O wise. On that note I’ve seen some sick Warriors action against me in demo. Built in elevators, I even saw the cpu run a double back screen flare for curry and the Cpu made the skip pass for a wide open 3. It was dope! Then I saw curry do what he does (I call it Ram our action) where he cuts through them comes off a in screen to the corner. They also run it through the ram screen 1st but it was nice. Then I saw he got some ghost screens in with Draymond! I see you guys! Lol!
One thing I’m hoping for is the 2 side break that Auburn and Rockets ran last year with great success! Also looking forward to running 21 and pistol action now that User DHO’s are smooth. I’m cool with waiting for DHO into screens to get in as we have workarounds to simulate it that work...

Grabbed a bunch of stuff from the playoffs, but i dont know everything that made it in...some stuff was combined into series stuff, which there are a bunch in the game
I didnt get to see any of the transition stuff but I does know it gets added on to each year.
Demo is solid but the movement/responsiveness has gotten gradually worse over the years IMO.
I’ll just crank up the speed, acceleration, etc. offline and deal with the clumsiness of offline whenever my buddies want to play.

A lot of teams ran it last year and copy cat league so I’d expect to see it league wide...

It could be in there but I don't know personally, but I'll ask.
Some things 2k is a year behind on when you see it happening in a given season, just kinda how the dev cycles go. Sometimes multiple years, because they have to bring the tech up to date with the new systems they add.

That last statement, man cheesers gone cheese fam.
However the rewards for basketball actions are there and it's nice.

Otto Porter defense - still there?
Illegal defense - still there?
Play vision color - still orange?
Player signatures - free throw, shooting form, were they improved or still the same old stuff from 19?

better man... play it before it changes
I'm digging the change if it is. Was getting so tired. I Like the banter abut the game and not just chats about years gone by and off court stuff commentary

Don't think so. They were in last year for the G League games in MyCareer.
Ok thanks
Damn so tired of TNT.
2. The pick and roll game is precise. With the new movement on the left stick dribbling, you can jump in and out of space, cut into driving lanes, and split defenders. Its going to be hell to stop a user who learns all to work the PNR this year.
3. The days of playing unathletic bigs who can only block shots and dunk are over.
4. The days of playing the unathletic shooter big minutes are over. Andre Roberson will definitely have more use then Kyle Korver this year. Two way, 3 and D guys will be a must to win.
5. Passing is terrible, and it is to easy to pass into the paint.
6. Shooting is to easy (but it is on rookie).
7.The ball needs to be more tangible. The ball is tangible when you dribble into a crowd, but the offensive player shouldn't be able to dribble the ball through and into a defender just because it is a 1 on 1 interaction. There has to be a bigger benefit to guessing the right direction on drives.
8. Off ball players will be huge. The down screens and catch and shoot game looks much improved this year. So you may need to get your off ball defense up to speed to keep from getting "Warriored" all game off the ball.
9. The help defense seems much better. The bigs are showing and helping more on perimeter drives. You are going to have a big who can protect the rim this year.
10. ON BALL DEFENSE IS EXCELLENT. PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE IT. You can still guard a ballhandler. You have to use angles, anticipation, and a combination of R2, L2, triangle, and the right stick. This is the first year on next gen where the defense is reactionary (as it is in real life). You can no longer bully a ballhandler around the court. You have to give up space, time your contest, and learn when to speed up or speed down. No more bump and run defense. Last year you could cover a player with the right stick and turbo button. That right stick contest is much more difficult this year and requires way more skill. If you can play defense this year, you deserve it.
Can't wait to play the game when the level is not on rookie. Wish we had different difficulty levels to choose from. Happy with the gameplay so far.
My god they feel great but I wonder if you'll be able to green as many well contested shots in the final game as the CPU does to you and as you can do to them.
Also, I think that Quick First Step needs balancing but they've mentioned that.
Lots of warping into animations from getting blowbys.
Pulling up after zooming past a defender can lead to some unnatural animations.
I love how effective players like D-Lo are though, and the offball movement is much improved.
Also huge shoutout Czar, in the small sample we're given the AI is amazing, the Warriors really play like the Warriors with these high screens.

I feel like some really subtle sliders will make this a complete dream for H2H gameplay and probably even vs AI.
Super excited to get into MyLeague this year, especially some MLOs.
I do have one huge concern for me personally. I love high and over the top side angles. I use the Nosebleed camera with zoom 4, height 7/8 in ‘19. But that camera is gone! And the generic broadcast camera is lower this year. Height at 10 can’t come close to giving me what I like. I may seriously pass on this game for that reason alone. I couldn't find a camera angle I like in the demo. Praying it’s in the full version. I’m only an offline gamer and I just want that camera back.

I'm in Australia, just downloaded the Demo, the my player builder won't log in to the server.
Is it just me or do we have an issue in Oz..

They have...just go to demos and it should show up. I can't log into 2k servers for some reason though.
Well done 2k 😂

Do we know who has the quick step badge on the demo? I would think only Curry, and DLO. Maybe Siakam?
Hopefully it's just a matter of lowering speed sliders.
I don't like to mess with the game speed slider because it slows down the time too

I equipped Michael Jordan's jumpshot on my player and it's slow as ****. They did this to get you to waste a Shooting badge upgrade on that ridiculous Quick Draw badge smh.

And Mike decides to BUFF stamina and speed for casuals in just about what 2-3 hours of demo and feedback off of Twitter people! Really! Really! Is that a quality feedback and on what term he decides to buff of a 1 whole year work been done by programmers/developpers, i feel sorry for whoever worked on this for a whole year and gets to see it changed in just 2 hours of casual crying. This was an epic L by beluba or what i call now is 'Twitter beluba' not OS beluba. OS beluba is gone. :frown:

Rob wait till the changes been made man, i was super ecstatic when i first jumped into game played like 3 hours non-stop 2ku and then went to bed, you know time differences then i woke up in the morning to see that Mike did a poll on twitter and then decided to buff stamina and speed, lol, like i was asleep man all of the europe was asleep when you decided to take some feedback! Cmon Mike! This is a global world, it can't be this random, it ain't a quality feedback you get, you're fundamentally wrong, forget about the decisions you make is wrong, it's fundamentally wrong to decide on when 6-7 million of 2k players all over EU etc is asleep.. And also most of them don't even know english maybe.. Have you ever thought about that?
You know!:05:
In the one game I tested him out I tried it on a 60 overall because my intentions were to try him at his worst and at his potential best. I don't ever buy additional VC with my own money because I actually enjoy the grind and don't really care for online competition. In that game I had 10 pts, 3 rbs, 2 ast, and 1 TO. Really like the build to be honest and plan on sticking with it. Problem is you can only test each build one time in the demo which was disappointing to me as I really wanted to try him at a 95 overall.
I really like the presentation graphics. It still feels similar to the presentation of 2k19 but I think it looks a lot cooler. I also think the players feel better while your dribbling with them, players don't seem to be quite as slow this year. Defense feels decent on and not too overbearing like on 2k19 but I still think help defense could use some work. Post play feels a lot better imo.
Really? God, Mike can be the best and worst for the game....2k20 will play like 2k19 after all the complaining is done.
I had 2k18 on PC (don't have 2k19 on PC) and it never seemed like the release timing for layups worked properly. That little, short vibration for when to release the shot was never there (used an Xbox one controller) as it was on the console version of 2k18. It also felt like layups on PC always had a poor release attributed to them no matter what. I could make more layups with the same players on Xbox one than I could on PC.
Have you noticed anything similar?
Jumped from behind Klay Thompson where my hand ended up behind his right ear and that triggered a 100% contest.
Had one where I was just standing in front of the shooter in a defensive stance and that triggered a 27% contest.
Closed out on a shooter and got a hand up without jumping and that triggered a 7% contest.
One contact layup animation where the defender was still in front of the attacker triggered a 13% contest while another, still with the defender in front of them triggered a 63% contest.
I'm betting this gets patched 3 times before October so I dont even know if it's worth even looking at it now but those seem very strange. I don't wanna be a slave to looking at and getting annoyed at contest percentages rather than playing the game, but it's hard not to given how strange some of those are.
Oh and it's utterly ridiculous that Mike is caving to cheesers after a few ****ing hours. I have zero confidence that this game will resemble anything we like about the feel of it by October 1st.
"I cant chain together 16 dribble moves to trigger a ankle breaker, 2k trash no cap!!!111!"
Here, here's more stamina.
Smfh
Have you noticed anything similar?
Can't say that I have...
Thats it. The jumpshot speed and percentages need to drop. I agree. Every player cant be Abdul Rauf mixed with Curtis Staples.

Go to NBA2k20 (where you'd normally purchase it). And then it should let you download the demo from that. It wasn't it's own icon (I.e. it wasn't like previous years where it was called 'NBA2k19 Prelude')
