PES 2019 Will Not Feature Borussia Dortmund

The license agreement between Konami and Borussia Dortmund, which was scheduled to end in June 2020, has been prematurely terminated. That means PES 2019 will not feature Borussia Dortmund’s logos, players, stadium and other features.

Just in case you missed them, there are 7 new authentic leagues in PES 2019. For a full features list on the game, including a trailer and screenshots, click here.

  1. So much for Bundesliga being one of those final two league announcements.
But why terminate the deal prematurely? Maybe it has something to do with the CL license? I honestly have no clue.
My only guess is that EA is going all out with the Bundesliga since they already have the license in the past. There may have been an early termination clause in the contract that allowed BVB to go to a higher bidder, but that's only speculation on my part.
I mean, I can't imagine EA's shiny new CL license with a bunch of random generic teams...
Very strange move. I guess there is just too much exposure to be had if your club is strongly featured in FIFA.
Sucks for the devs who put all that work in building Signal Iduna only to have it for a year.

Yep, not to mention all of the chants and music to go along with it as well as the tunnel/locker room scenes.

Woohoo! Signal Iduna back in FIFA

Copy and pasted from last gen I imagine, just like every other stadium they have
Exclusive licensing is going to be the death of these 2 games. I feel 1 of the 2, or maybe even both of the leagues that PES has yet to reveal is going to be an exclusive and it will have a massive effect on FIFA. (My guess would be Serie A) Hopefully I'm wrong because I do enjoy both games, but at the end of the day, the gamers are the ones who suffer because of it.

Yeah it definitely sucks as a consumer but it will be tricky for PES to license the entire Serie A because Juve has an exclusive deal with EA.

Other games have proven that if you add lots of customization and file sharing, you can accompliah the similar thing.
Maybe the official license is not worth the price and PES would rather dedicate monwy towards gameplay and customization. That is not a bad strategy.

With the option files, whether or not they have the licenses is basically irrelevant. I'd rather they have zero licensed clubs and charge $20 less for the game.

It matters though, especially when Konami limits the number of fake teams/leagues.
Not too mention the folks on Xbox 1 who can’t even use option files.
I just wish they’d give us back some of the editing features (create a stadium, custom chants/sounds, etc...) we used to have. Oh, and don’t limit the editing in terms of space. Let me fill up my PS4 HD or external. Oh, one more thing lol, for the love all things this decade let there be option file sharing online via a share site in-game.

When faced with similar requests they've said that very few people use the editing features/mode, according to their data. Of course this is extremely dumb, if not just a cheap excuse.
Indeed very few people actively edit/mod any game, but to find out how important said editing is for your product you have to seek a different metric: How many people bother downloading an edited option file/mod and don't just stick to the default game? I think the answer to that question will be a lot closer to "almost everyone"...

    Agree 100% Chrisx!
Some die-hard PES'ers always say "I would play PES if it were all generic players."
In 2018 I highly doubt the majority of people would do that.
It was fun, PES.  But losing the CL/Europa license, plus non-existant fouls from the com side of one-player games will make this my last PES purchase, probably for good.
"Superior gameplay" (which isn't as drastically superior as it used to be) is no longer a sufficient reason to play PES over FIFA, when literally every other aspect of the game is sub-par.  I don't think I'll be buying PES this year unless something drastic changes.

I remember when Adam used that weak *** excuse as to why they got rid of the stadium creator. Of course that data came from PES 2013, which had nearly 50 stadiums, including every La Liga stadium. The data would have been much different it he got it from PES 2014, or especially PES 2015 which had fewer than 20 stadiums. Also, in 2018, we shouldn't still have to use option files to share created kits, teams, etc. All of that stuff should be shared in game. If a game like AO International Tennis can accomplish this, and btw have a very good stadium creator, there's no reason why PES can't get this done. This may also solve the Xbox image import issues because images are being shared in AO International Tennis on Xbox and there doesn't seem to be a problem.

Konami did not terminate the partnership, BVB did. There's an article on www.pesworld.com of BVB giving their reason as to why they decided (EA) to end the partnership.
    Translated from German:
"In fact, after careful consideration, we decided to end our cooperation with Konami prematurely in order to cooperate with the manufacturer of the successful "FIFA" series EA Sports in the future.
Of course we can understand the disappointment of many PES players, just as we noticed the recurring wish of many "FIFA" players after a new BVB integration.
We are convinced that all black-yellow video game fans worldwide will also be able to offer a high-quality and intensive gaming experience in the future."

Konami needs to (won't) hire the engineers behind 2K's custom editing. You can basically redesign an entire team with picking one download option. Want to make the current Cavs like the 96 Cavs... no problem. Logos, jerseys, arenas all get downloaded from 2K from the person that made the edits.
Now having something like this in place will likely take a lot of work but since they have option files, they already have a foundation there.
Now the problem is where in 2K there are logos floating and it seems like there is no issue, I don't know if the same would apply with all the different copyright issues throughout the world.
Right now I'm just on the One X and going from FIFA's amazing presentation and leagues is rough going to PES. Every year I also enjoy FIFA so me going to PES gets smaller each year.

Yeah, I honestly don't know how 2K gets away with it. You can recreate an entirely authentic college basketball league in NBA 2K no problem, I know the NCAA tried applying pressure with 2K17 but it obviously didn't get them anywhere as the same exact creation elements are in 2K18.
PES already gets away with the same thing to a certain extent. For example, even though Bundesliga isn't available out of the box, it's easy enough to get it in the game if you're in the know. But if Konami managed to switch from the option file system to a pick-and-choose download option for custom teams, I think we'd all be better off. Option files are serviceable, but the whole process feels about as dated as the Dreamcast-era menus we have to navigate through to get to them.
