The dam is broken and content is flooding out. Prices are still dropping across the board so I’ve just been playing catch up, and of course attempting to try out older cards that are more reasonably priced now.
Here are a three favorites I’ve tried on a whim and ended up adding to my collection permanently (well, for now).
It’s Dame Time.
This Moments card is rated 98 overall and has every Hall of Fame badge you could ever want in a point guard (plus Posterizer)! His 98 open shot three plus HOF Limitless makes him a beast from the outside. I love this card, and he’s my starting point guard right now (you know, for those rare times you actually use a real point guard this late in the game).
I don’t consider myself much of a comedian, but I’m definitely not joking when I say that of the three cards above, my favorite is the slow, lumbering center on the far right.
Yup, it’s the Joker, Nikola Jokic.
And yes, he’s a bit slow compared to the Anthony Davis’ of the world, but he’s a playmaking center (HOF Dimer and Flashy Passer) with a 3-ball. Starting him really opens up my offense, and when in doubt, pick and pop with him helps to get things moving.
I’m cheating a bit here, but there is a new dynamic duo with Avery Bradley and Marcus Smart that I love. They’re dogs on defense and have all the great defensive HOF badges. And they’re cheap. In fact, just in case you hadn’t noticed a couple of weeks ago, there are a few new duos. Check them out here. Hopefully, 2K drops more soon!
Oh yeah, then there’s one more card I happened to pull in a single pack a couple of weeks ago:
Now I didn’t get the limited version with all-99 ratings and 500-plus HOF badges, but the regular opal is still amazing. What I find interesting, however, is how far the price has dropped.
The day I pulled him, he started at over a million MT, and settled for about 850K. A week later, he was down to 500K. Then a week after that (when I sold him) it was for only 300K.
Obviously, a big part of that is due to the fact that opals are coming out each week now, but still, we’re talking about the GOAT here! Oh well, I should have sold earlier I guess. Really, the only opal I want is the inevitable 20th Anniversary Harden.
I think my endgame goal is do whatever it takes to get him (which will probably cost me nearly a million MT), then surround him with souped up 3-and-D guys (the way the Rockets have tried to do in real life). But instead of Trevor Ariza, I’ll have pink diamond Scottie Pippen. Then in place of P.J. Tucker, I’ll have 20th Anniversary LeBron. And of course instead of 2019 Chris Paul, I’ll try and get the opal Chris Paul. Hopefully, those prices (particularly Giannis and Jordan) will drop a lot more than they have. We’ll see.
Half the fun of MyTeam is coming up with a plan, then diverting that plan as off-the-wall content is dropped that you didn’t think you’d ever see. Like, who would have thought a pink diamond Jimmer with 10 HOF badges would come out? Not me! I ended up falling in love with him and can’t sell that card.
I can’t wait to see what they drop next. Any predictions?
