NBA 2K18 MyGM / MyLEAGUE Details & Screenshots

Hello 2Kers!  For those of you that don’t know me already, my name is Erick Boenisch, Senior Producer on NBA 2K18.  Some of you may know me by my online handle, SimBaller.  It’s my honor to be the first person to welcome you to NBA 2K18!  The team here at Visual Concepts has made some HUGE strides with the game this year, which we will be telling you about in the coming weeks.

For today, I feel privileged to kick it all off with a detailed dive into what we have done with MyGM/MyLEAGUE this year.  Without any further ado, let’s get to what you came here for!

Innovation.  Authenticity.  Engagement.

Those are the exact three words I lead off with last year in NBA 2K17’s MyGM/MyLEAGUE blog.  We have used those three words to serve the NBA 2K community well for many, many years now.  In a space where other developers continually shy away, the team here at Visual Concepts has once again delivered a robust and thoughtful list of franchise features that will keep you coming back for more.

In the franchise landscape, we have been pushing the envelope for the entirety of the current generation of consoles:

– At the dawn of the next gen, NBA 2K14 presented us with an entirely new mode, MyGM.  MyGM aimed to personalize the experience of being a GM.  It put you face-to-face with your owner, staff, and players.  Your actions drove the narrative of your franchise, unlike any mode had ever done before.

– NBA 2K15 brought us the wildly popular MyLEAGUE mode; an experience that brought forth the tenet of complete user control and customization.

– NBA 2K16 introduced Team Relocation, giving you the ability to relocate your teams to new cities, and create entire new arena/court floor/uniform designs.

– NBA 2K17 saw the introduction of the League Expansion feature, Dynamic Rule Changes, the Start Today game mode, the ability to upload and share your created team packages, and so much more.

In NBA 2K18, we are taking MyGM to the next level (and SO much more).

MyGM: The Next Chapter is a completely new take on franchise modes with its story-driven narrative.  As the GM of your favorite team, the decisions you make and the paths you choose will ultimately determine the fate of the franchise.

MyGM: The Next Chapter

Not that long ago, you were one of the brightest stars in the NBA.  Personal accomplishments long since satisfied, all that mattered to you was getting another ring.  On a warm, May night at the 2011 Western Conference Finals in Dallas, it all came to a sudden end.  Your knee, it was finished.  Now what?

Fast forward six years and you find yourself at the outset of MyGM: The Next Chapter.  After a number of interviews over the last couple years, you have just landed a job as the GM of an NBA team.  Widely respected for your on-court success, you have finally found an owner that believes the very drive that propelled you to the top of the NBA will help you propel his team to an NBA title.

With NBA 2K18, we are introducing an experience you won’t find in any other game; a narrative-driven story-based franchise experience that maintains all of the user control and team building aspects that you have grown to love from MyGM over the years.

While MyCAREER focuses on your life as an NBA player out to achieve superstardom, MyGM: The Next Chapter aims to view the NBA world from the complete opposite perspective.  Centered around you, the GM, you will need to navigate backroom scenarios while dealing with expectations from your owner, your staff, the press, other GMs, and of course, your players.

How your MyGM experience turns out is completely up to you.  Your path will be determined by the choices you make and the answers you provide at the many key points in the narrative.  Understand, I’m intentionally being a little vague regarding the main plot of the story, as I want you to experience it firsthand rather than through thinly veiled spoilers.  Just know that the intent is for an engaging experience that steers clear of the typical sports clichés you may be conjuring up in your head.

As a franchise diehard myself, I understand the importance and integrity of team building to your franchise experience.  We’ve designed a story that will delight and entertain without infringing on the plans you have for your roster.  Draft, trade, and contract decisions are not spoon fed by the writing.  Make the story your own, and build a winner!

NBA 2K18’s MyGM: The Next Chapter allows you to experience the life of a GM like never before, as you will be required to manage the morale and expectations of your owner, front office staff, coaching staff, and of course, your players.

Over the past many years, we have added feature after feature to our MyGM and MyLEAGUE modes.  During that time, the line between the two modes became fairly blurred, in my opinion.  NBA 2K18 provides you with two very unique experiences, that couldn’t be more different from each other.  MyGM: The Next Chapter will be the story-based narrative described above, while MyLEAGUE will continue to live and grow as our fan-favorite franchise mode that affords the user complete customization and control over their league.

Pioneering is something that I personally enjoy doing.  Delivering new experiences creates a certain energy within the development team, and from this energy, I’m confident that our foray into telling a narrative through a franchise mode will resonate with all of you.  Enjoy the ride!

2017 NBA Collective Bargaining Agreement

With the ratification of the new NBA/NBPA Collective Bargaining Agreement, there were a large number of considerations for us to ponder.  Supporting the new changes was never a question; our continued aim is to be fully authentic.  That will never change.  The following are some quick hits of changes that we have implemented to show you the breadth of our coverage of the changes, no matter how minute they may be:

Super Max Contracts: We all read about Steph Curry’s 5yr/$201M contract this summer.  And James Harden’s 4yr/$169M extension that will pay him $228M over the next 6 years.  Known colloquially as Super Max contracts, NBA 2K18 fully implements Designated Veteran Contracts and Designated Veteran Extensions, as well as Rookie Scale Extensions into the game this year.

Exception Amounts: The MLE will increase in value by 45% from the amounts in the 2011 CBA.

Rookie Scale Contracts: The Rookie Scale will be increased by 45%, with existing rookie scale contracts being amended to reflect the 45% increase (phased in over a 3-year period).

Minimum Annual Salary: The league minimum contract will rise by 45% starting with the 2017-18 NBA season.

Annual Increases: Players with ‘Bird Rights’ will now be eligible for 8% annual raises.  Non-Bird players are eligible for 5% annual raises.

Maximum Salaries: Players will have new maximum salaries calculated using the actual Salary Cap.

Over-38 Rule: Formerly the Over-36 Rule (which we did not support in previous NBA 2Ks), teams are now bound to the contract restrictions of signing a player that turns 38 during the contract.

Stretch Provision: When a player is waived using the Stretch provision (new to NBA 2K), the team will not be able to re-sign or re-acquire the player until July 1 of the season where the contract ends.

Roster Minimums: Teams are now required to carry 14 players (up from 13) on the roster at all times, unless granted an exception.

+More: There are many more rule changes/new features supported in NBA 2K18 including New Timeout Rules, New Trading Deadline date, Player ETOs, Moratorium Period (detailed below), Two-Way Contracts (detailed below), (Ted) Stepien Rule, and more.

Authenticity is a very important word here at Visual Concepts.  While some of these changes may be small in nature, the sum of their parts makes them critical to an authentic team-building experience.

G-League Integration

NBA 2K18 introduces the ability for you to send down and call-up your players using the G-League (formerly known to you as the D-League).  While the G-League games themselves aren’t user-playable, the feature allows you the opportunity to provide critical game experience for your young players who aren’t getting any court time with the NBA team.  Players who have received limited game time in the NBA can potentially accelerate their development as a player with a properly timed send-down.  Additionally, the G-League is an excellent scouting tool for young players who might have gone undrafted in previous drafts (they will help to populate the league), as their statistical performance will be a good indicator of what type of player they can become at the next level.

Two-Way Contracts

Taking full advantage of G-League availability are Two-Way Contracts.  With the ratification of the new CBA, NBA teams will now have two additional roster spots designated for players on “two-way contracts.”  Always aiming for completely authenticity, NBA 2K18 fully supports this new addition to the league.  Any player with three or fewer years of NBA service is eligible to sign a two-way contract.  A player on a two-way contract can spend a maximum of 45 days with their NBA team (during the G-League season).  Once the player has run out of NBA-days, he must spend the remainder of the season in the G-League, unless converted into an NBA minimum contract player.  NBA 2K GMs would be wise to utilize this to their advantage as you can more easily keep hold of developing talent, while being able to bring the players up to the NBA team to check in on how they are progressing (and to use them as stop-gaps when injuries hit your roster).

Free Agent Moratorium

Any NBA fan knows the nearly week-long NBA Moratorium period is one of the most exciting times of the year.  Rumors are flying on where free agents are going to land.  Players are coming to verbal agreements with teams they intend to sign with once the moratorium is lifted.  NBA 2K18 introduces a 3-day Free Agent Moratorium period prior to the start of Free Agency.  While players can’t officially be signed during the moratorium, you CAN come to binding (no DeAndre Jordan moments, sorry) verbal agreements with players, whose contract offers will be finalized as soon as proper Free Agency starts.  This is a fast-paced, dynamic time period that will quickly weed out teams who, as Isaiah Thomas would say, aren’t willing to bring out the Brinks truck.

International Draft Prospect Stashing

The ‘Draft-and-Stash’ is a strategy employed by a number of teams when drafting players, particularly later in the draft.  NBA 2K18 introduces this feature for the first time.  Select international prospects in draft classes will be flagged with the number of years they will remain ‘overseas’ before they are free from their current professional contract and are eligible to sign with your team.  This will create additional intrigue in the draft as there now has to be valuation considerations with respect to how many years the player will be unavailable before he can sign.  I’ve really been enjoying this particular addition to the game, as it spices up one of my favorite periods of the NBA season!

Analytics Tool

This new feature can be summed up by the following explanation: The Ultimate Research/Player Scouting Tool.  As you can see from the picture, this tool allows you to plot any two data sets against each other to find outliers.  For example, I can plot all of the players in the league by their MPG versus their RPG.  The resulting data plot will quickly show me players who are pulling in big rebounds in little minutes, or, conversely, players who play big minutes yet are well behind the league curve in rebounding.  When looking for players to fill out your roster, the information is invaluable as it allows you to pinpoint the exact player you need.

You can plot players based on raw stats, per game stats, per 36 minutes, or per 100 possessions.  From there, you can reduce the data set to last 10 games, last 20 games, home games, away games, this season’s stats, last season’s stats, or total career stats.  Additionally, you can create charts by setting items such as salary, age, height, wingspan, and more.  This is the type of feature that you will only find in NBA 2K!  We are dedicated to providing you the richest and deepest franchise experience on the market, and it’s this kind of feature that exemplifies our intentions.

NBA 2K18 features an Analytics Tool allowing you to plot any two statistics/metrics or vitals (age, height, weight, etc.) against each other.  In the above example, Points Per Game have been plotted against 3-Pointers Made Per Game, allowing you to quickly find the 3PT scorers who are also volume scorers.  Summon your inner Daryl Morey and create your own plots to come up with unique scouting data to help build your team into a contender!

Trading Draft Rights

During the real NBA Draft, it’s very common for a team to draft a player, only for the rights to that player (as he has not yet signed a contract) to be traded to another team later in the draft.  In previous iterations of NBA 2K, you were unable to trade (or trade for) a player that was selected in the current in-progress draft.  NBA 2K18 introduces the ability for draft rights to a player to be traded, after the player has already been selected by a team.  From personal experience, I can say this feature makes the drafting experience a lot more dynamic and exciting!

Cap Holds/Renounced Rights

New to NBA 2K18 is the concept of Cap Holds and Renouncing Rights to a player.  In the NBA, a free agent continues to count as team salary towards your salary cap until they are signed (by your team or elsewhere).  This placeholder salary against your salary cap is known officially as a ‘Cap Hold’.  Known in some circles as the ‘Michael Redd Rule’, this concept closed a loophole allowing a team to use all their available cap space before re-signing their own free agents.  If you know that you are not going to re-sign a given player, you will have the ability to Renounce your rights to that player.  Renouncing a player removes the salary hold against your team’s salary cap, but this also forfeits your Bird rights for the player (if applicable).  Fortunately, with our free agent setup, we have made it easy for you to renounce the rights to players on a daily basis, as the free agency period progresses.  While this may sound a little intimidating at first, I’ve found that it greatly increases your flexibility and the strategy when trying to land free agents.  All in the name of authenticity!

Improved Draft Class Generation

We spent a fairly considerable chunk of time early in development this year re-thinking how we generate prospects, particularly with respect to their player types.  Looking back on 2K17, we just weren’t satisfied with the breadth of players coming out of the generated draft classes.  With NBA 2K18, players now have a more appropriate spread of attributes and tendencies with respect to their given player type.  Our new system allows us to more easily update the generation templates outside of the typical monolithic patch release, meaning we can continue to update this logic all season long based on your feedback.

Alternate Uniforms for Created/Relocated Teams

NBA 2K16 introduced our very powerful suite of tools that allow you to create every aspect of a team from the ground up.  The designs made by the community have been…stunning (and with NBA 2K17’s addition of team sharing, you now know that as well).  One consistent bit of feedback I have received is the desire to create additional uniforms for these teams.  NBA 2K18 introduces the idea of an Alternate Uniform into the jersey creation process for your created/rebranded teams.  We have also added the ability for you to copy either your Home or Away uniform into the Alternate slot should you do a complete re-design, but want to keep the old design around for ‘throwback’ nights.  I’m always reading feedback from our community, so I know how many of you out there are going to enjoy this addition!

Rebranding in Existing Arena

When doing a team rebranding, you can now create a new court floor inside your team’s current arena.  What this means is you no longer need to build a new arena just because you want a new floor.  Example, if you are the Lakers and you want to design a new court, you can put that new court floor right inside the Staples Center.  No more generic arenas for rebranded teams (unless you want to create something from the ground up, that is).

All-Star Selection Experience

We’ve had a lot of different solutions in previous years for how to handle All-Star games.  This year, we added a new system that I am really enjoying.  After every season, we will pick a new host city for the All-Star game.  We built a logic system in the backend that delicately balances things like city prestige, years since it was last hosted in the city, team age (newly created/relocated franchise get a large boost to their chances), and more to boil down which team is appropriate to host the next All-Star game.  The announcement of the host city selection is now a formal event in our offseason.  As a MyLEAGUE user, you can of course override our selection to anything you want.  Additionally, we have modified how we build arenas such that we can put a customized all-star court floor into the host city’s appropriate arena.  No more generic arenas for the all-star game.  Every all-star game will have its own custom floor with that year’s all-star logo emblazoned on the court.

MyLEAGUE Online Improvements

One of my favorite franchise experiences in the game is our MyLEAGUE Online feature.  Allowing you to play in a competitive league with up to 29 of your friends/family/enemies, MyLEAGUE Online allows you the opportunity to demonstrate your team building prowess for others to see.  For NBA 2K18, we have added some popular community requests to continue building out the feature set for this experience.

Team Customization/Relocation: League members will now have the ability to customize their teams including creating news identities, uniforms, arenas/courts, etc.  League admins will also have the ability to customize CPU teams should you want to create a custom era league of any type.

Playoff Games Resets: Admins will now have the ability to reset ‘completed’ Playoff games.  In the case where a user unexpectedly drops from the game and a result is granted, the admin can now step in and give those two teams another chance to replay that game.

In MyGM: The Next Chapter, you will need to consider the information you share with the press and the information you share within the organization.  Is your philosophy one of free information, or on a need-to-know basis?  These very decisions will shape your franchise!

Player Accessory Frequency

Have you ever noticed how it is a toss-up if Rajon Rondo will wear his headband on a given night? Or if Carmelo or CP3 will choose to wear compressions shirts under their jerseys?  Over the years, NBA players’ accessories have become part of their signature.  They aren’t just tools to help manage the grueling 82-game season, they are also essential elements of their appearance on the court.  And either because of need or choice, they decide whether they wear certain accessories on a game-to-game basis.

In NBA 2K18, players will now decide on a per-game basis which of their accessories they will wear on any given night.  And because this is MyGM/MyLEAGUE, you can fully customize how much or how little this happens.  All 17 accessory slots come with five frequency options (Never, Rarely, Sometimes, Often, Always) that you can customize to determine if a player will ever not wear an accessory, or if he oscillates on his wear frequency.

This is a feature that extends its wings well beyond MyGM/MyLEAGUE, as in-game players in Play Now and MyCAREER will also make use of the feature.  Our roster team here at Visual Concepts will follow real-life accessory trends and update frequencies via our roster updates all season long.  For some, it may be viewed as a small thing.  We view it as an example of the level of detail will strive for to re-create the NBA experience right in your living room.

Improved Searching for Created Teams/Rebrands

We have improved the search logic when searching to find specific created teams/team packages.  Your searches will now return hits for Team Name, City Name, or Gamertag.  Our experience with this in development is that it makes it much easier to find the content you are looking for, compared to last year, which often omitted results you might have been looking for!

Bookmarking Favorite Creators

As I noted above, there is a passionate community for creating logos, uniforms, courts, team designs, and more.  In previous editions of NBA 2K, every time you would want to search for and find a design from a specific community member, it would be a laborious process of remembering the intricate gamertag and then using the in-game keyboard.  In NBA 2K18, we now allow you to Favorite/Bookmark your favorite creators providing quicker and easier access to their content than ever before.

Hardship Exception

Injuries happen, there is just no way around it.  This year we have implemented support for the NBA’s Hardship Exception.  This ‘rule’ allows you to sign an additional player to your roster (above the existing limit) in the event that your team has four players who are injured and have missed at least three regular season games (or one week of calendar time, for people playing shorter seasons).  Coupled with the above-noted Two-Way Contracts, you will have a lot of options this year on how to triage your roster in the event disaster strikes.  All in the name of authenticity!

Jumpshot Creator

All of the roster editors and draft class creators out there are going to enjoy this one.  When editing any player in the league, you will now have the ability to completely customize that player’s jumpshot.  This feature takes the elements seen in 2K17’s Jumpshot Creator in MyCAREER and applies them in such a fashion that they are easily editable for every player in the league!

Duplicate Player Picker for Fantasy Drafts

I’m a huge fan of the classic teams we provide inside the game.  One of my favorite uses is to include them as playable teams inside MyLEAGUE in an attempt to create an all-classic league.  One issue that arises when doing this are the players that appear on more than one team, leading to duplication in the league.  When doing a fantasy draft, you will encounter things like Ray Allen appearing twice (’07-’08 Celtics and ’12-’13 Heat) or Danny Ainge (’85-’86 Celtics and ’90-’91 Blazers) or five different Michael Jordans if you included all of the Bulls teams.  To alleviate this in NBA 2K18, we have added the ability for you to choose if you want the duplicate players to appear in your league.  You can even choose which version of the player you want to keep in the player pool.  It always felt weird to me, and I’m pleased to say we have an elegant solution for it this year.

Practice Plays

A long overdue feature, in both MyGM: The Next Chapter and MyLEAGUE, you will now have the ability to Practice Plays with your user controlled teams.  Developed by the gameplay team here at Visual Concepts, Practice Plays is a powerful tool that teaches you the proper tactics to succeed on the court.  If you consider yourself a true sim player, you will definitely want to practice with your team using this feature.

Player Create Added To MyLEAGUE

NBA 2K18 adds the ability for you to add new created players to your already ongoing MyLEAGUE saves (even midseason).  In previous years, all players needed to exist in the roster file prior to starting the game mode.  For those of you who like to play along with the real season and keep your roster up-to-date, you will now be able to create and add free agents to the league as needed.

The many choices you are required to make in MyGM: The Next Chapter will completely shape the story and how the outcome is determined.

Quick Edit Improvements

NBA 2K17 saw the introduction of the Quick Edit feature, which allowed you to quickly perform edits to players without having to go into Edit Player and back out for each player you wanted to edit.  In a postrelease 2K17 patch, we added the ability for you to also edit player tendencies.  In NBA 2K18, we are taking this a step further by allowing you to easily edit all body part durabilities, and more importantly, all badges and their levels for every single player in the league.

New Team Relocation Cities

For 2K18, we have added 10 new cities that you can relocate your team to.  Those cities are: Fort Worth (Texas), El Paso (Texas), Albuquerque (New Mexico), Tucson (Arizona), Fresno (California), Long Beach (California), Mesa (Arizona), Virginia Beach (Virginia), Colorado Springs (Colorado), and Raleigh (North Carolina).  When you consider things like market size, metropolitan income, and television homes in the market, many of these cities can present a great financial challenge when moving your team to one of these cities in MyGM: The Next Chapter.  Are you up to the task?

Improved MyGM Slider Support

Taking a cue from MyLEAGUE, MyGM: The Next Chapter now features a number of new customization options and sliders that can be used to personalize the experience.

Closing Thoughts

I shouldn’t be at this point, but I am continually surprised at how little support other sports games give their franchise modes.  I vowed long ago to never let the NBA 2K franchise regress to that mean.

Having had time to reflect back on what Dave, Tim, Barry, Leftos, Yu, and Daniel (take a bow, gentlemen) have accomplished for you all in these modes this year, I feel continually reaffirmed that our direction of Innovation, Authenticity, and Engagement is not only the right path to take, but that it is the ONLY path to take.

Here at Visual Concepts, we believe strongly in the franchise experience.  Our management here provides us full support and believes strongly in our ability to provide innovative experiences that, as I said above, are built to delight and entertain.  And in turn, you, our fans, have shown TREMENDOUS support of the work we have been able to provide over the last many years.

As I said in this space last year, it’s important to me that you feel we respect your purchase of our product.  Your passion and enthusiasm is what drives us.  Don’t ever stop giving us ideas, or telling us what you want to see added to the game.

Until next time folks.  Enjoy your time with NBA 2K18!

  1. Dissapointed to not see anything about fixes to the Advanced Rotations feature. It was useless last year because the AI would never remove players who were in foul trouble and couldnt adjust its rotation when someone got hurt. It was a big bug that was never addressed.
So no full franchise mode for My league online? Still the keeper crap? This is severely disappointing. Also, now MYgm is a semi story mode. Really not to hyped on that.

With all the schemes supposedly added on Defense in last year's game. It looks like we will still not be able to practice those concepts. I don't understand how you only practice on 1 side of the ball damn near 2 decades later.
i feel kinda bad about they didn't tune simulate engine properly for simulate games on CPU teams. i hate see weak teams like lakers or suns or Nets making playoff : they are lower rating
Looking forward to hearing how they are so dedicated to improving online leagues but couldn't give us a true online franchise mode. It's been the same message for 4 years now and we are stuck with this dumb keeper mode that doesn't even work. Well done 2K, sometimes I wish we never went to a newer generation console because then at least we could have Online Association.
Team relocation is an absolute joke to the online community. Wouldn't be surprised if %1 of the community uses this feature.
Looks like I got to fire up them salary spreadsheets in order to do 2Ks job.

Offline MyLeague sounds absolutely incredible. They're adding a completely new level of realism unmatched by any other sports game. Thank you for constantly updating and making the game mode more realistic 2K. Bravo :drink:
Holy schnikes! Those are some great additions! I was on the fence, because I didn't really enjoy 17 that much, but this just pulled me off of it. Still may not be a day one purchase, but I'll be buying for sure.

Not Bad.. story driven is little weird for My GM

Well it is the only way anyone would play MyGM. Everyone played my league except now they have some thing else that is a mix of mycareer and myLeague

I don't get why Seattle/Las Vegas aren't used for built in expansion cities. Long Beach and Mesa? Really? But the rest of updates are absolutely awesome.

Keep I'm mind, he said relocation, NOT expansion. So those cities might be an option for expansion. Hell, he didn't mention it at all, they might have take. It out.

if online i could get the entire Mygm mode in a Online franchise i would be a happy man.. and not that keeper crap..

Exactly. Like all I want is to play franchise mode with my friends.
When I have to think about things that 2k didn't add that I wanted and can't come up with anything shows 2k has put in a lot of work on these game modes.:appl::appl::appl:
Disappointed that they didn't mention the keeper system for MyLeague Online; makes me think that it's still in the game which would be a letdown. Everything else sounds pretty good though.

Draft and stash and the G league integration does it for me. Also saw the ability to add a created player at any point during your season.

I'm curious to see if that means you can download other creator's created players now?
Wow I love the G-League integration, International Draft Prospect Stashing, and Improved Draft Class Generation! and the Player Accessory Frequency is a really nice detail.
And I loved the Closing Thoughts:
"I shouldn’t be at this point, but I am continually surprised at how little support other sports games give their franchise modes. "
Shots fired. Don't think I even need to name what other game I'm thinking of.

I can't wait to see if the trade/free agent logic improved. Also ASW selection and award logic.

I feel like I have an unhealthy fixation with those two getting addressed lol. Been asking for that for over 5 years now.
I have mixed feelings about MyGM being story driven but I'll reserve judgement until I play it. It makes a lot of sense as up until this point MyGM just served as a more restricted and less fun(imo) version of MyLeague. Doing something totally different to make it stand out is the logical move.
Everything about MyLeague is great. The better search features and all star stuff is nice. Love the part about legends not being duplicated etc. Can't complain about any of the MyLeague stuff at all, yet again 2k (and Erick) prove that franchise modes matter.
In general this is a great start and I spend a lot of time on MyLeague so im excited about this.
Still can't say I'll pre order though. Gameplay > everything.
Would be nice to know if we can not only add CAP's from our local database to a MyLeague but also download other creators CAP's...if its the latter this would be HUGE. No more offseason rosters would be needed or am I wrong?
    SkillzFromThe6
I'm curious to see if that means you can download other creator's created players now?

I was wondering this as well. Guess as more info comes out that will become more clear.

I liked all parts of the article. Seems like they put alot of effort. Liked how some aspects will affect other modes like generated players, Super Max/CBA, Accessory frequency.
But My favorite quote is "I shouldn’t be at this point, but I am continually surprised at how little support other sports games give their franchise modes. I vowed long ago to never let the NBA 2K franchise regress to that mean." Subtle jab at other sports games
Side note; I love reading about what goes on in NBA front offices (or any sport really) And any documentary/movie about that type of thing so I'll be cautiously optimistic about the MyGM story mode for now... It's something fresh at least.
2k fans are kind of spoiled. Go play Fifas Manager mode and then tell me 2k doesn't dominate.
Seriously? They had another full year an Myleague online gets the shaft, and we're stuck with this keeper crap. This is BS. Prob won't get the game then.
Finally, the eagle has landed, we have pretty much every single trade and signing rule and exception from the CBA! Can someone point out some misses? Very excited about all of this!!!
To me the one thing that I think they still haven't incorporated is the ability to sign players to 30-day contracts and sign up to 20 players for training camp. Then making cuts and what not.
Never played my GM, but hope you are not forced into a story driven one. Sounds like they didn't add anything to getting FA meetings and lure them to sign with you, though there's probably plenty more to come ;)
Also excited about 10 new cities, the court creator etc. There's some things like the accessories which I couldn't care less about, but I know people care about that stuff so it's all good.
The one thing I hope they have added is to edit the generics on classic teams.
Another thing I'm wondering with Nike and the way they have changed the jersey system with no more home and away, if they have incorporated this + will have all the different jerseys team will have. It points to no with clearly stating home and away jerseys.

Its nice that we can add created players during an ongoing season but can we download user created players ? Otherwise its a feature that wont be used much.
Its a nice addition that we can add created players to an ongoing season but the main question is can dwe download user created players ? Otherwise its feature that wont be used as much unless your a great Player Creator yourself.
Well, that was a great, great read.
Still need to read/hear about defensive A.I. improvements, CAP system and other features to be fully on board, but they hit a home run with those added features to MyGM/MyLeague.
    from Bills Backer/Spurs Nation HQ
Having the alternate uniform slot and creating a new court are the highlights for me - but that's because I spend hours and hours making custom leagues. Now we can rebrand online in a custom league with friends too? Love it!
Whatever your take on the story element, appreciate the fact that 2K/VC are investing so much time and effort into their franchise modes year on year. I'm seeing people tweeting Ronnie already claiming that nobody cares about MyGM anymore.
I was hoping to see something about Sim stats but everything else looks good, although i'm not really a fan of the story driven MyGM. I feel like it's gonna be as narrow and "forced" onto you as MyCareers story is
    Draft and Stash? Awesome.
    G-League? Good stuff.
Create a player mid-season? Hell yes.
Alternate slot for a rebrand? Nice -- but it looks like it's only one. Swapping templates still seems the way to go, but now that we can tag/favorite our favorite creators, that makes it much, much easier.
The addition of rebranding just the court floors without losing the arena entirely is very nice.

^That is one of the keys for a buy this year from me. The draft class generation and tendencies in 2K17 are bad. Five-year sims into the league resulted in game-breaking stats and insane numbers if you didn't have the progression/regression and team training sliders tuned just right.
This isn't a buy until I see and read from the early adopters how that looks.
Further, there needs to be gameplay improvement defensively because the AI was a joke last year and easily got picked on with the most basic plays.
I'm very impressed with all they added in for the franchise modes -- as an avid MYLeague guy, I loved everything they said. But I need to see it in action and I need to see it for a few weeks before I commit.
Last year they said lots of cool things too that ended up being implemented poorly or not in the way the trailers made it seem (looking at you "Authentic Arena" trailer).
As an exclusive offline MyLeague player all of this stuff sounds awesome. 😁
What I wanted most was improved generated rookie classes. They delivered on that. They also added a ton more. I'm not getting my hopes up entirely before I get to play but it definitely all sounds awesome. Can't wait 😊
If you draft and stash a player and he is in Europe for 2-3 years will he get better in that time? Say I draft a 19 year old kid from say Greece who has a ton of raw talent, but is a 70 OVR. In 2 years when he gets to the states will he be something like an 80-82 OVR?
Anyways I am extremely hyped for 2k18 now. I usually just play MyLeague, but I may dabble with this ne MyGM thing this year. I wonder what new if any rule change possibilities they added to the offseason.
    MyGM Slider Support?
"Taking a cue from MyLEAGUE, MyGM: The Next Chapter now features a number of new customization options and sliders that can be used to personalize the experience."
Sliders in MyGM is a nice addition. I hope the story isn't overpowering but it doesn't sound like it will be. I imagine it's going to be the same as before with the meetings (& some additional things) but more drawn out with cut-scenes.
Love the CBA addition, G-League return, Analytics Tool, & Player Accessory Frequency.
Would be nice if we could get various hairstyles. I'm excited for 2K18. I'm thinking there are a few little things that likely wasn't mentioned that will be new additions to MyGM/MyLeague as well.
Is it just me or does Embid's player model look better? Like leaner.
As someone who doesn't do much GM mode stuff, my only requests were..
    Add alt uniforms
    Ability to edit shorter shorts.
Hopefully we have ability to make some nice retro teams. Looks good.
I however am extremely excited about these additions. I love MyLeague and honestly I spend hours on it in it's current form. I'm already thinking of alternate jerseys. I'm hoping in custom draft classes we can designate a guy as draft & stash. I didn't see any specifics on it, but I'm also hoping in custom draft classes & generated ones can have sleeper picks with the way they said it'll be more fleshed out. I've been playing this mode for years and never got a second round guy who turned into a monster. Maybe G-League integration will help that process.
I am one of the players who has issue with the simming and though they did not address it directly, I feel as though the inclusion of advanced analytics will more accurately sim games, bringing a differentiation between a scorer like Steph and one like J.Crawford.
I'm super geeked for the Moratorium period so I don't waste time trying to get PG just for him to sign with somebody else.
All of this is fantastic news. I'm looking forward to more info coming out!! Going to pre-order today.

This is one of the best posts I've read.I was actually thinking about waiting around to see what Live had to offer in its franchise this year, but man not anymore. They implemented a LOT of the suggestions myself and many others made on these forums this year. G-League and 2-way contracts are by far the biggest good news things for me. It'll help so much with keeping the league fresh.
I'm so amped for this game now after reading this post.

I think some people just post without thinking. I'm not going to lie I was hoping to hear some news about CAPs and improvements to the CAP system, but then I started thinking "wait, that will probably come in the future, it's not directly MyLeague related and is handled by completely different developers." I think if some people would just stop and think about this for a second they wouldn't post things like that.
    ShowTyme15
Draft and stash and the G league integration does it for me. Also saw the ability to add a created player at any point during your season.

Kinda got disappointed when I read G League games aren't playable, but I couldn't stay upset as I continued to read all the other new improvements lol.

:bump::bump:. That stood out to me as well. I'm hoping that 2k brings back individual player 2k share so we can download CAPS or 2k's unlocked free agents and add them to our own roster. Also good to hear that they added the power of headbands back to the user..Hopefully there is a true coach mode hidden somewhere in 2k18 as well which is on par at least with 2k11. Great read overall.
Was disappointed to hear Online Leagues seems to be sticking w/ those "keeper" contracts and things like that. BUT the rest of the news was great.
I am definitely going to run a MyLeague this year if playing against the CPU is worth it. I know it's small but the stuff about changing the frequency of player accessories is a very good idea and will add to the game instead of seeing the same player for years w/ the exact same accessories.
Have a feeling 2K18 will be a classic.
    Good job, 2K.

I like the additions but don't really care for the story mode elements. I purposely played Player Lock in MyLegaue to avoid the linear story and cutscenes of MyCareer. Hope I can still play MyLeague using Player Lock and avoid all the story stuff or skip it.
Really, Really dope improvements. Im impressed with all the off season additions. The more layers of strategy the better.
    But...
Im super bummed about the keeper system being...kept. no mentioning of advanced rotations (a crazy underrated addition) taking fouls into account or advanced rotations making it into create a roster.

Yeah I don't care for the story element. But i don't think it will nothing crazy like My Career has given last couple years.
But i don't think there will be much variety in the story in MyGM.
But this almost guarantees that My Career will have another
Storyline. Hopefully there is more variety and less bugs

so no varied Create-A-Player body types.....

Welp, just bought 2 copies. Sounds awesome. That was a joy to read. G league, draft and stash! Gotta decide on a new team now. Thinking about running with the Kings.
As someone who plays FIFA, I have a hard time reading this breakdown of MYGM because it makes me angry knowing that we aren't getting anything close to this in our game.
2K was smart to create a story line for MyGm as it will attract more players/attention to the game mode. Love the G-League addition, Draft and Stash, and Moratorium period. Huge that 2K finally improved the Draft Class Generation, as it was awful in the past. Think it's about time to go back to playing MyGM/MyLeague a bit(unless 2K comes out with some ground breaking MyCareer/Park info).

2k has this same effect on me when it comes to other sports titles, literally makes other franchise's look bare bone in comparison.
I didn't see anything about this in the dev blog. But they did talk about making retro era leagues in My League. But will you be able to adjust short lengths in the team design creator? I really hope so. I also hope they added the Pro-Am gym to the group of arenas that you can choose from while rebranding.

Wow I was blown away, this is great attention to detail.
Can anyone at 2K confirm the return of POE sliders? These are crucial to getting authentic team stats in a number of areas.

Why are people complaining looking for information that isn't inherently about MyGM & MyLeague. STFU about body types, CAPs, MyTeam, Pro-AM and MyCareer in this thread. It's specifically about these two modes. The rest will come out eventually

Why would that info be saved for MyCareer/Park?
They talk about how they fixed generated draft classes--their ratings and tendencies. Nothing said about the fact they they LOOK like garbage. Pretty easy to read the subtext and gather that it's likely that no significant changes were made to the CAP system.
EDIT: And if MyCareer does have multiple body types, best believe it will be a restricted feature like tattoos.
What about AI trading? Probably same. Why we still can't create own plays? It looks nice, but Im leaning towards NBA Live this year, after 9 years of supporting 2K. I'm tired of playing 30 teams, just because of broken AI, controlling trades, rotations, draft, etc.

Because creating big fat Sullinger/Zbo types or slender ripped Giannis types is a much bigger deal in MyCareer/Park because those modes are infinitely more popular. They ways play their cards close to their chest.
They don't talk about that stuff in MyLeague^ for the same reason they don't talk about badges on players... It's a much bigger deal later on to MyCareer.
Also, not mentioning it doesn't mean it's not there. Not just for the reason I mentioned but for about a dozen more. You're reading far too much into it.

I was pretty set on not buying 2K18 but these two additions, maaaan...

Because that is not inherently a related feature. You can technically play this mode without ever using the CAP system yourself. It also doesn't affect the gameplay of the modes which is what this blog is addressing. They always address these things in waves. Mode by mode.

This is great to hear! Now I wonder if more body parts were given durability settings, such as a broken wrist or hamstring pull. :y11:
Was really hoping to see the G-League added to MyPlayer. I enjoyed working my way up from the old D-League to make an NBA roster. Sometimes I don't always want to be dumped on to a NBA team and ride the end of the bench. Something like Road To The Show is what I am thinking.
IF Sim Ballers avatar was made from the CAP and is indicative of the generated players look like I'd be cool with that. I enlarged the pic and it doesn't have that weird "caveman" look to it.

As a mostly full time Madden player that usually just dabbles in 2K after football season ends, I'm in absolute awe at the amount of depth and precision 2K is providing in their franchise mode. The dedication is evident. I get the disappointment regarding online, but as a whole this is really, really great. And when I look back to Madden and other sports games, it becomes even clearer that NBA 2K is putting out a superior product year in and year out.

Looking good... Biggest needs now for Myleague,

    • Year to year Myleague saves from 17 to 18 option, or from this point 18 to 19. This could also fix or be used for the online myleague guys that want to continue their leagues and teams from the past year. 2 birds, 1 stone here
    • (If not above at least) Import our draft classes from 17 to 18, (Possibly please patch in before launch?) Some still play College Hoops and want to continue those careers from their NCAA days and not recreating those draft classes each year
    • Advance rotations for foul trouble, options for what we think is foul trouble, like max fouls 2 for the first quarter, 3 in the second, etc... but editable everyone has their opinion, and the player to sub in for position, same with foul outs
    • Starting line up/ Backup lineup/ Bigs lineup/ Shooters lineups/ Defensive lineup Etc... editable line up packages options in coach game plan not just before each game for different sub/lineup packages, and have available in the substitution menu at pause screen
    • Create our own coaches
    • Create our own plays
    • Fixing simulation stats to match real life and adding a force win to CPU v CPU games

I think that pretty much covers everyone or most people concerning Myleague, then where would/could 2K possibly go from this point?
Everything is looking real good, I can't be too mad at 2K. My personal biggest issue is restarting Myleague every year, otherwise great additions. Mmm, Still on the fence though...
Wow, thats a impressive list of additions to this years game. There was a time  when I was worried that the devs of this game, wasnt putting much focus  on Association mode/ MyLeague/MyGM, and were more concerned about MyPlayer and online play like park, basically catering to the casual basketball fan, but over the past 2 yrs  you guys have stepped up to the plate when it comes to the hard core basketball fans by improving the Association modes. Im very greatful for this, because I was getting concerned that my sports gaming days, might be coming to a end, and I would be going the text sim route, so thanks to you all who work on improving simulation experience that MyLeague/ My GM offers.
It will definitely be a must buy for me after hearing all of the additions, as I enjoyed NBA2k17 alot, and 18 seems like it will be a major upgrade from 17 even.
Lots of good news. Really looking forward to draft and stash and the g league.
I am let down by the absence of news on improved advanced rotation logic and a new player potentials/progression system. These 2 things are as important as any when it comes to authenticity IMO. Especially advanced rotations. I'll continue to keep hope alive tho.
But anyways. Great job again 2k franchise team. Strong work
I'm intrigued but not yet convinced.
The real test, for me personally, will be how the system handles once you go deep in the mode. I'm talking about 5 years and beyond because that's when it all goes sailing down, as I've seen in every 2K title thus far.

    • Top free agents go unsigned because every team has run out of cap space to sign them. Then once the season begins, they sign for the minimum to random teams.
    • Roster depth problems (e.g., 7 guards, 5 forwards, and 1 center)
    • Lottery picks getting no playing time at all because of too many depth at the same position already
    • Players, whom have below-average stats, or have barely played any games, demanding absurd max contract deals during free agency

More problems can be found here
Lots of great news. Don't know how I feel about the MyGM storyline, but I'm absolutely geeked for the G-League integration! I have one question tho...Is the guy in the last pic a default CAP? If so, that face looks so much more clean/lifelike than what we've had over the past 3-4 years
Really hoping 2k addresses Created players as a whole, next. I'm gonna be so disappointed if they recycled the CAP system again
When I read the back story and it mentioned 2011 WCF and your knee was finished, it made me think of Brandon Roy. That was his last playoff game and granted it wasn't in the WCF it made me think of him.

Still a possibility its in *MyCareer* as this is a MyGm and MyLeague blog
To everyone asking if we can download CAPs, if we can just upload individual players into our MyLeague, that would be PERFECT. Just download a roster with the CAPs you want, save it as your own, and upload CAPs. Essentially the same thing.
All in all though, im ECSTATIC. I've been a gigantic advocater for untying courts from arenas, so to see that was added makes me feel amazing. Now if dornas and everything is the same, then we can basically make every arena true to life, and also keep up with changing court designs. All I really want now is upload images placed anywhere on a court.
But with the CBA integration, G-League, draft and stash, drafted player rights, the hardship rule, everything....

SO many things I was asking for or was immediately intrigued by when I read it. The only thing I can think of that was missing for me is the ability to actually select the ASG players and award winners, but I love that the experience will at least feel different every time you play it this year and now, in the future. The accessory slider sounds great for a detail freak like me, I really hope we can do that with hairstyles in the future (I.E. DeAndre Jordan going with the fro or Braids, the frequency somebody like Westbrook will cut their hair). 2K continues to be amazing in this area, other games have got to step it up.
I wonder if in MyLeague when you make an expansion team will you get an expansion G League affiliate as well or do they auto assign you a pre-existing team to affiliate with? It would be awesome to have our own G League affiliate as well
Sent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk
Noting as others have done already, these additions include many things we asked for this past year and have been asking for. Credit to the devs for the work and for listening.
    Among the things not addressed:
Improved create a player and player models or body types.
Improved team building logic so that CPU AI balances a roster reasonably across all positions
Reworked free agency market to reflect dynamic player asking prices based on positional competition and team demand/CAP availability. For example, Derrick Rose went into this year's FA period wanting max and taking a 1 year minimum. In 2k logic, unless his OVR would have been dropped to 69 or so, that would never happen.
There's been no discussion of fixing player progression logic and formulas. Last year progression was broken unless you manually messed with the team training sliders for all teams. If you didn't, you were left with a league of historically awesome sharpshooters who could do little else.
Those are just a few things, off the top of my head, that I notice have not been discussed in this announcement. That doesn't negate what they have done. It's just to put it in context of the things the community talked a lot about with last year's game.
Will the game load in a reasonable amount of time this year? If not, none of the additions or improvements matter.
I have no doubt it will be great out of the box. But by patch 3 or 4 around December it will likely be a train wreck yet again.

I'm curious to see if that means you can download other creator's created players now?
If only we can have player DNA back. Would help so much with draftclasses

I'm really excited about the MyGM storyline.
I didn't even touch GM last year because it was a longer version of mylesgue with interruptions.
At least now it's its own thing with a cool twist.
The great thing is if you don't like the storyline you can still do myleague. Love it.
MyGM last year was probably barely touched.

So if you looked at that picture of embiid, it says something like "you know me and that guy play the same position"
I sure hope if my gm can recognize the fault in signing 2 star pg's tot he same team, myleague can also.
CPU team building is always horrible

    Good post.
They're still missing things and I do fear the AI won't be great. The additions are great. But will the execution be good enough?

This sounds great but we'll have to see how it shakes out. Gotta see exactly what level of progress was made with Draft class auto generations and quick edit. Other than that just waiting for gameplay mainly. Good stuff 2K

I wouldn't say that I'm excited, but it's a cool addition. I MAY have touched MYGM once in 2K17. I did play the story part of MC last year so with this I could potentially continue that story from a GM perspective. That's a new twist worth at least checking out.
Just want to applaud the devs. They dont always get in everything we want but they are active in the community and still try to cater to simheads. Love the draft and stash aspect and GLeague. Also, if implemented well the draft classes could change the length of my time in GM/League. This is a good start to the news cycle.
Excited about the ability to import created players and free agents during a already active MyLeague. Hopefully it will also alow us to update created player features during the season as well.
Body types definitely need to make an appearance this year too top it off into one glorious package.
I'm so glad we have the G League back and the draft and stash feature is good as well. I wonder if they are including players previously drafted such as Anzejs Pasecniks or if it is something only available in future drafts.

I missed this. Where is this located in the article?
Jumpshot creator can be used outside of MyCareer! Nice!

    The Player Accessory bit.
And yeah, the biggest takeaway for me was the Jumpshot Creator. Oh boy.... the Signature Edits thread will be awesome again this year.

IF the CPU is actually a challenge and intelligent with roster management...and the game play is amazing...

There's not one word to suggest improved CPU roster management. It just says that the player interests story mode of MyGM will notice if a player faces competition on a roster at his position, and will point it out to you, the GM, as an issue. There's nothing about CPU AI roster management or construction, CPU approach to FA, to the draft, to cap management, etc.
It says nothing about CPU logic for roster construction in MyGM or MyLeague.
Since we asked for that a lot in our wish lists last year, and they excluded anything about it (while clearly addressing other requests we made), I have to assume there is no improved CPU roster construction logic. That to me means that, if I do decide to get the game in October or November, I'll have to take on 30 team control again this year.

And IMO that's what they were trying to do.
I mean he says it in his article - the fan favourite is MyLeague and rightfully so. You can do so many different things with it. And they added a lot to it IMO - things such as G-League, draft and stash, etc.
The big issue is if it executes properly. Last year the additions were great and I had fun, but I did get annoyed at certain things. They may have cleaned up the new draft classes, but if the GM AI isn't fixed it will be annoying again.
I'm just glad there's another mode I cna play around with (MyGM)
    WhiteBunny
So story-driven mode even for MyGM ? Lol, can't believe players are fine with this.

Because we have a an extremely deep alternative that continually gets expanded on each year. It didn't take away from Myleague in fact they added a lot to that mode at the same time including the story mode for MyGM, unlike you know. This is how and why most people don't mind a story mode alternative for 2K at this point.
I can't believe there are actually people who are hating on this.
The great thing about 2k is you can control all 30 teams in your MyLeague.
Yes, it may be a hassle...and the CPU logic for free agency / trades / contracts is a little out of whack, but you have the ability to do everything yourself.
I'm stoked for 2k18 and can't wait to start up my new ML with the Bucks.

This. Myleague made mygm irrelevant last year.

So many awesome additions in the blog. the Alternate uniforms(Yellow Sonics alt and grey NJ Nets alts hello), court redesign, accessory frequency and being able to create players mid season is awesome. Not to mention all the salary rules, G-league(and 2 way contracts) and Euro stashes, Man.
I just hope the CAP has more than one body type though.

It's 1000% still in. Been confirmed by 2k on here and everything.

Still debating on whether I should get 2k18 day 1 or during Black Friday season. But what intrigued me is you can rebrand a arena without relocating. So I am definitely going to rebrand that Chicago stadium if classic teams are still in.

It'd be so dope if they finally allowed us to add images to the sideline and baseline
really excited to see G-league return. glad to see they resolved the issues with searching for creators, adding created players, changing court floors of existing arenas, and adding an alternate jersey for expansion teams
The Portland Trail Blazers do not have a G-League affiliate so I'm guessing that it would be too complicated to remove it for them or the other NBA teams without G-League affiliates
Haven't played an offline franchise in years..... They definitely should've done more with the online franchise..  But since it's 2k I guess it makes sense because of how bad their servers usually are...
While everything seem like an upgrade, the game is still on a No Buy for me. Until they choose to tackle another key term, "Immersive" I'm out. I have purchased every game from 2k6 to 2k17 but i have never been immersed or lost in a game like i was with College hoops 2k8 Legacy Mode, with season preview, weekly wrap up show and selection Sunday. Or Nfl 2k5 with its sportcenters weekly show and still one of the best before, half-time and post game shows ever implemented in a game. And those two games were dont on inferior hardware. So until this development team tackles the problem of immersion, I'll pass. I'm quite sure that i'm in the minority though.

So hypothetically could a euro-stash never come over ala Fran Vazquez?

I assume since this is the first iteration it will be simply that you are shown a stash year amount at the draft and they are available after that number of seasons. It would be cool if it went more in depth in the future for sure. Hopefully they can progress/regress as they are stashed.
I got all googly-eyed and pre-ordered today, but now that my wallet is $25 lighter and I'm out of the honeymoon phase, I have a few things I didn't see:
You know what wasn't really addressed that I'd like to see updated in this mode? Better contract negotiations. There's currently no way to get guys to take real pay cuts like Dirk, Wade, KD, etc. If you ask anybody to sign for less than what they're asking, it's like pulling teeth.
In my most recent season, I needed a center. I had a really great team in fact, we were coming off a title. I had Valanciunas, but he decided to test his value. So I get lucky and DeAndre Jordan is available. He's 31, no longer in his prime, but I only really need a rim protector, nothing spectacular. He was asking for almost $32M per year. I offered him $28M because I had no space. He didn't even consider it. So I'm looking for other centers and with 1 day left in FA, DJ still had no other offers. I offer him $30M per, he declines again. The crazy thing is in real life, even if a player does not want to take a cut, he'll lower his asking price if nobody is biting. The FA period finished without him getting another offer. I think "Welp, maybe he's in the FA pool and he'll finally take a lower price." No. He was magically on another team, for what he was asking for despite getting no offers. But it's next to impossible to get guys to take a significant cut. Even if their "Play for Winner" rating is 99 and Financial Security is 0 and non financial factors are turned up. I know, I've tried.
Another thing is CPU logic. Teams don't work to build sensible teams or change philosophy when necessary. It makes no sense to chase KD if you're rebuilding, and it makes even less sense for him to sign with a team that can't win now just because they brought the biggest bag out. In real life Memphis knows they can't win so rumors have swirled that Gasol is available. That doesn't happen in 2K. Teams never try to rebuild. They never make trades to dump salary or work to get picks. Teams never start over like SAC trading Boogie for young pieces etc.
These things, I imagine, would be difficult to implement, but I'd love to see these features in future games.

I definitely want to hear some good presentation news and I'm sure there's a blog coming for that, just stay tuned.
-I hope draft and stash and G-League guys progress, thats a must.
-Teams need identities with adaptive playstyles. If they hire a new coach they should go after players that fit that system, and their playbook and tendencies should adapt as well.
-Free agency needs a rehaul. Make it similar to recruiting with different pitches (team history, market, current roster(superstars?), current coach, salary, contract length, contract clauses, fan loyalty, rebuilding or contending or up-and-comer, etc.) along with meetings, and let us edit these pitch influences for all players. This would make it a lot easier to get guys to take pay cuts and make free agent signings more realistic. Let's say a guy wants to play for a contender and doesnt value salary much (think older vet looking for a ring). If you're Golden State, Cleveland, Boston, San Antonio, etc., you could get a meeting with that player and offer him a contract significantly lower than his market value because he values contending teams and current roster more than salary or contract length, and he'd highly consider your offer because (in Golden State's case) they are a complete contender and have 4 superstars. Of course each team pitch rating is out of 99 and each player pitch influence rating is out of 99.
-Allow us to add images anywhere on a court, or allow us to upload a court design made in photoshop into the game (give us a court template that we can customize in photoshop, and then upload it to the 2k server to put into the game. It gets annoying when you cant have actual team wordmarks on the baselines, or cant add any sublimated designs onto the court.
-Give us more team statuses that we can adjust, like "rebuilding, contending, up-and-comer, retooling"). For example, rebuilding teams would want more picks and young high potential players with low contracts. Up-and-comers are a bit like rebuilding but want to only shred bad contracts and want picks or near-prime players. Retooling teams want to cut large contracts and value cap space and good players. And lastly, contending teams value their roster and are willing to give up replaceable players and picks, and value older vets and can be solid role players.
Thats all I can think of that should be added. Everything else is solid 2k!

Personally, I don't think so considering the G-League isn't playable.. But I have a strong feeling the Euroleagues and the G-League might be playable next year, maybe not Euros but probably G-League.

I mean you couldn't use colleges In MyLeague last year but you played in them during MyCareer so it's not impossible.
I mean it's nice that they put all these legit rules in but like others have said if the AI is braindead in regards to team building it's Kinda a mute point.

I totally agree, but TBH, all sports titles (that are not text based) struggle with adding good team building AI. Doesn't mean that 2K shouldn't to be the first to do it, but that my expectations won't be super high that they can or will.
Also, the NBA is littered with poorly constructed teams. The Spurs literally have 7 guards (Parker, Mills, Murray, Green, Ginobili, White & Paul) and 1 center (Pau Gasol) for the upcoming season.
The Kings had 3 centers, a ton of guards and one (true) SF on their roster last season.

Yea every since I heard a few coaches talking about playing positionless basketball I knew then I can't get as upset as I used to get when teams in 2k would sign two or three pgs that could start on other teams.
It's a new era in NBA basketball just got to accept it I guess.

What a great article. They could have just gave a list & said here is what we are adding. But instead they tell you what they added & give a very detailed description of it. I got a man these guys really care about their product feeling after reading that. I usually wait till black friday to pick up the game on sale but I might have to pick up the game earlier.
"I shouldn’t be at this point, but I am continually surprised at how little support other sports games give their franchise modes."
I LOVE this line. It resonates with me. Madden franchise is my bread & butter but I get disappointed with it when I jump over to play NBA2k & the immersion is just so much better due to the control my league gives you plus the presentation that is on top of it.
I hope that little comment helps make the flame of competition burn a bit brighter between Visual Concepts and EA. Competition can be a great thing for us consumers.
