MLB The Show 20 Gameplay Video - 4K HDR 60 FPS on PlayStation 5, Load Times Also Revealed

As most of you are aware, MLB The Show 20 is playable on the PlayStation 5, allowing the game to run at a higher frame rate and improve load times.

UPDATE: (11-14) Samit has uploaded an hour of MLB The Show 20 footage from the PlayStation 5.

When capturing in 4K, the PS5 only records to WebM files encoded with the VP9 codec; if you want an MP4 file, you’re limited to recording in 1080p. This file came out to 21.54 GB on the PS5 SSD, although when I exported it to a USB stick, it took up 20 GB there.

(Original post…)

Our friend and front page editor at Polygon, Samit Sarkar, has posted a new gameplay video, captured with the Create button on the new DualSense controller. Gaze at the video below, it truly looks amazing in 4K HDR at 60 frames per second.

What are your thoughts?

Samit also compared the loading times with MLB The Show 20 on the PlayStation 4 vs. PlayStation 5. Not too shabby.

The PlayStation 5 releases on November 12 and for those of you lucky enough to get your pre-order in, it looks like you’re in for a treat with MLB The Show 20.

While some features available on the PlayStation 4 might be missing on the next-gen console, no details have been specified.

  1. I just posted in another thread, but just wanted to say again how salty I am that I couldn't get a PS5 pre-order for this very reason. Been frustrated with the performance of MLB on the PS4 Pro for years, and was pumped to try one of my favorite series on new, stronger hardware. Looks like my assumption was right, that the PS5 would run this game so much better than PS4 Pro. But, I'll have to wait a while to realize the difference lol.
For anyone that was lucky enough to secure a PS5, congrats and enjoy this amazing game in all its beauty...without any frustrating frame rate dips.

I hope you can secure a PS5 soon man. I know I'm stoked to get mine next Friday. Just like you, I've been less than thrilled about how the game performs on the PS4 Pro, so I'm happy to see that it runs smoothly at 4k60. I'll try and share my own gameplay vids on here next weekend so y'all can see how it looks and runs.

Its almost unfathomable how badly they botched the release.
I'm the target demo. I would buy for myself, as well as a family member, but I can't get my hands on one. Its absurd.
And now, I'll wait until the second cycle, once I know all the kinks are ironed out.

Walmart is selling the PS5 online on release day. Several scheduled times. Get you browsers ready!
I was lucky to get it from GameStop and can’t wait.

must... fight... temptation... to .. purchase.. PS5 .. for a couples years. that looks great, gonna be near impossible to hold out that long now. thanks Steve

Looks like ps4 pro...if you have a pro not worth buying a ps5.
It looks nothing like the PS4 pro. The Pro can't keep that smooth of a frame rate. This is coming from someone who plays The Show religiously on the Pro. You won't see the game play that smoothly, even on Faster mode.

I play the Show on the Pro, looked smoother to my old man eyes *shrug*
Definitely alot smoother, so it's not just your eyes.

I disagree with the premise. The title makes it sound like the game has been enhanced visually, when in fact it's the exact same. The only difference is the fps stability.

I dont plan on buying the PS5 till its MLBTS "all new". So if that is 2022, then thts when I plan to get one. The Show is the only game I play really. The few others I play, I barely touch, so its really about MLBTS for me.

A locked 60fps at 4K would inarguably be a visual enhancement. And I disagree, the title of this post/thread says exactly what it says and is not inaccurate.

Exactly. It's going to be a visual upgrade bc people can actually play the game in 4k at a smooth frame rate. I guarantee you that 99.9% of people play this game on either faster mode(1080p60fps), balanced(1440p w/varying frame rate), and not 4k with a frame rate that can't even stick to 30fps. The PS5 is going to be a game changer for MLB The Show 20. And Go Tigers!!!!

While i fully agree with you, i will not immediately buy the ps5 (once available).
I cannot justify for myself to spend € 500,- just to play the same game in better resolution and fps, even though i'm sure it will look and feel great.
Instead i will wait to see what mlb the show 21 or even 22 will be like.
I'm an offline classic roster franchise dinosaur, so not sure if it will be to my liking. I want things like the option to turn Heidi off, classic overlays, more classic stadiums, and the return of season mode.
All things that probably are not going to happen...i know, i'm not in denial :P
Anway, looking forward to '21 and if it blows me away i may buy the ps5 at a later stage.
Maybe then the console will be a bit cheaper, and at least some of the early problems will be solved.
    Some of you.. lol.
This isn’t saying go out and buy a PS5 just to play MLB The Show 20, a PS4 game.
It’s for those that are already getting a PS5 and showing how we can further enjoy The Show on the new console. If you aren’t getting one and don’t want one right now, chill.

Yep, I'm just excited that I'll finally get to play the Show at 4k60fps. Tomorrow can't come soon enough! The Show and Spiderman Miles Morales is in my immediate future!

Like I did with the PS4, my plans are on getting the PS5 once The Show no longer is released on the PS4. That video is trying to plant a seed in my brain, though... but I'll still hold off nonetheless. I'll let everyone else go through the growing pains of the "1.0-itis" of the hardware and software, though I could picture myself getting it in 2022. Besides, I've only had the PS4 for a little over three years, I want to get my money's worth out of it.
Keep in mind that this is coming from a guy who used an iPhone 4 for six years, and didn't upgrade until the MLB At Bat app was no longer supported in the 4's maximum iOS. And I don't plan on upgrading my iPhone 7 anytime soon, partially because I can wear a mask and still use Apple Pay in a store thanks to Touch ID... but I digress.

Then just you wait til MLB 21, built for PS5 and Series X and (hopefully) PC. If you are resisting playing the current version via BC, you will not be able to resist the next one built to take advantage of the new hardware.

yeah, I really need to hold off for a couple years on the ps5 for monetary reasons but I just don't know if I have the will power. I bought the ps4 straight away on release but after it became evident there would be no NCAAF on the ps4, I wish I had waited till Show 16 or 17. ah well, no regerts

I know I made an impulse buy on this one.. but used some reverse psychology as well.
If The Show goes to PC, I have to upgrade my gaming rig. Thats my preference. (.. and an understatement)
So I figured, if I buy the PS5, its a certainty it winds up on PC.

Don't mean to hijack thread. If you're playing a season on the ps4 in franchise mode, will it transfer to the ps5? Sorry if this has been already discussed.
I'm assuming yes, but don't know for sure.

Yeah I am. It's taking a while to upload to youtube since it's uploading in 4k with HDR. I'll more than likely have to post it here in the morning, bc I'm old and tired. Haha

Okay, since some people asked me for a longer clip: Here's a full Rays-Yankees game. 59 minutes of 4K60 HDR footage, straight from the PS5's built-in capture tool.

i really can't tell the difference - maybe i need a 4k setup to see it but on my regular laptop doesnt seem that much different.
I will just wait for MLB 21 to come out and then possibly get next gen.  I want to wait so I can have a fresh next gen experience w/ this game in March.

I have a 4k monitor and this is a great example. Go to the 5:50 mark. BAM! Amazing colors, etc.

Yes i have a pa5 got lucky getting one, I haven’t played the show since about June though about the time I gave up on a season happening and when it did I was over it by then lol
I’ll have to check it out can’t see much change that can happen being the same game but I might just play a playoff series or something.

    Your not a actually playing a ps5 game it’s just a ps4 game on the ps5.
I’m wondering if we have to wait till May next year or later remember we had to wait til May for the ps4 in 2014 only the ps3 came out

I think what he was asking was will his franchise from the ps4 still be transferrable to the ps5. what I believe is you are able to transfer the Show 17 to 20 through the cloud as long as servers for those versions are still up.
Show 14 15 and 16 servers decommissioned, not going to be able to move those file saves from ps4 to ps5 ? ? ?
Finally got the PS5 setting right to actually upload in it 4K glory!
Anyway the clip some minor league action they have some interesting shadows and lighting. Half inning at sundown and another half inning at night. Also someone mentioned that the no doubt home run camera seemed different not sure but there is an example in the clip for your analysis.

So finally my PS5 got wrapped up with the data transfer from my PS4 and I played Cold War for a little while......meh.......not impressed, even a little. Popped in MLB 20 which I've actually been more looking forward to playing than any PS5 game that's been released so far, and I'm actually extremely impressed with how much better it looks/feels/runs on the PS5. I did what some other people suggested and set the graphics to sharper resolution rather than the smoother framerate like I ran on my PS4 Pro, turned on HDR, and bam, the colors pop so much more now, clothing textures look much cleaner, skin still has an unnatural sheen, plasticky look but virtually everything else looks better. What I'm even more impressed with is the framerate.......animations just seem to flow better, I dont get that random stuttering with the pitching motions and meter like I used to get sporadically. The graphics look a bit better but the animations are so much smoother now. The controls feel much better with the Dual Sense 5, the haptic feedback definitely is nice. I dunno, I really think any game will feel better using the Dual Sense 5, which has become my favorite controller ever.
My game froze on me the other day playing rtts. Never happened ever on PS4.
Luckily I was able to Return to the home screen and close the app. Within the first 3 hours of having my ps5 I ran into a issue. Not cool dude
