Its just 8 a.m. San Diego way. Could be more later.
Let'em get the sleep out of their eyes lol

I doubt it, I'm sure this is all we're getting until 2/5.
Well, the screenshots are interesting at least. New start screen for Franchise it looks like and RTTS got another face lift. However, I need to see substance. Graphics looks identical...

There's 9 screenshots on The Show website... Dont think they tell us much though.

They show that Franchise select a team screen has been reskinned and then one looks like a new perk system for RTTS, along with you possibly having a room? not a huge amount, you can't really tell gameplay stuff from screenshots
Kind of unclear how you'd select multiple teams or 30 team control from that new franchise menu though... And it looks like you get DD rewards for winning the world series in franchise, which, doesn't exactly sound like a great direction to head in

Agreed, I'm thinking those screenshots with team logos was for Franchise.
Kind of hoping those aren't the new franchise menus tbh, maybe a return of seasons? Makes maybe more sense with the reward for winning the WS?
Now I'm going full Columbo on 2 screenshots, when I said I was going to try not to do that this year. Typical
Trailer was funny. Noticed the Nats were wearing throwback Expos uniforms. I wonder if announcing the official gameplay trailer releases next Tuesday if they will provide a twitch stream schedule like before or if this is how they are going to do things this year.
And I know its going out on a limb, but I think this trailer showing Colon pitching and then jacking a homerun was a subtle, unique way of announcing two way players. Just my thought.

You think so? That would be awesome!

    I honestly do.
Last year was a twitch schedule that had things hidden behind asteriks and the community guessed and discussed. I think this is a similar type thing where they want to release subtle hints and see if the community can figure anything out.
A year late with the Montreal unis Vlad actually wore, but very, very glad to see them make an appearance. If the Expos are playable in franchise, take my money!
(puts on worst Columbo impression) Well there's also just one more thing...
Kind of confused by that menu with "set a difficulty". At first I thought it was franchise, but when have you ever just set a difficulty for everything in franchise and had to stick to it? Can't really think any mode that works like that, beyond offline DD, but the rest of the menu doesn't really link up with DD?
    Intriguing...

If it were Ohtani, I could see it, but with Bartolo, it just feels like a joke. Surprised his helmet didn't fly off with the swing. Hope you're right, tho.

I have absolutely no background in marketing. With that being said, their marketing sucks.

    Agreed!
First I am not sure what made them think that their fan base currently has the tolerance or patience for a silly (I did not think it was funny) trailer.
MLB.Com even hyped up the possibility that Bryce Harpers destination might be revealed by the game which got a TON of extra eyeballs on their twitter account and then this is what you give them.
They get a 10 out of 10 on their ability to hype and then disappoint.

Actually, if you think about it, they had national outlets picking up the story of a potential free agent announcing his decision to sign. And instead they drop this. Seems like they generated some buzz without doing much of anything, well played SCEA.

Came here to post this. As a throwback guy it is huge to have some old Expos uniforms without the powder blue. One can only hope every uniform from last year is back along with many new ones and/or the option to create some.
    Bravo Show team, bravo.
I'll reserve full judgement until the day is over, but this is laughably bad.
This is about as bad as it gets, and is something that makes me miss the days of competition. It really is a shame to watch a developer that built so much faith turn into this.

But that is/would be the uniqueness of it. Who would expect Bartolo Colon to be the player featured when they introduce two way players?
I think there is a reason why this trailer was solely Bartolo Colon and why it featured him pitching as well as hitting a homerun.
Maybe I'm wrong, and I very well may be, but I don't think they chose Bartolo Colon and that type of trailer by accident.

I agree, showing Ohtani would have been way too obvious.
    We'll see I guess.

Depends whether you subscribe to the "all publicity is good publicity" way of thinking. Because making yourself famous for letting people down isn't generally a great idea in business
Ummm, Bart didn't don the Mets uni last season...are we just forgetting about the year age caught up to the legendary dough boy?
This being said, have to love him

I've never understood the reason you release a trailer for a trailer. :nocomprende:

So people will post such in a thread, bumping it and making it visible to more people. The more threads they can get started on as many forums as possible the better. And posts wondering why they did it are as good as posts liking that they did it.

Or set yourself up for backlash by not delivering anything of significance. The comment section on the tweet is mostly negative. So now you've set yourself up to need a well done trailer since you decided to to promote it a week in advance. Wouldnt be my approach. But hey

I am not treating marketing as the product. I am saying it was a bad marketing move. You generated enough heat to get a ton of eyeballs on your twitter account and then you give them a silly teaser trailer?
I am criticizing their marketing and not their game. I will criticize that separately.
Their marketing team gets worse and worse every year. What a joke. The OS community has been clamoring for franchise updates. The Twitter community isn't exactly happy with last year's DD. No one is content with the graphics that have barely changed in 12 years. And now their huge announcement is a tease for a trailer that may or may not be announcing two way players, which we were actually sort of able to do in a patch in 18?

And those same eyeballs will be on their twitter account next Tuesday when the gameplay trailer drops.

SDS never promised what would be announced today. All they did was tell the community to pay attention to their twitter account today because they were going to release something/information, which they did. That information is a sizzle trailer to announce the first official trailer which will be gameplay that will release next Tuesday, Feb 5th, which falls in line with how they have released information the past few years, right after the Super Bowl.
Putting the Rays in the longshot 68 game winners though, that's the truly shocking thing they did today! We won 90 games last year and you've put is with the Marlins and orioles?
You've gone too far this time SDS!

That screen is very intriguing to me. It screams franchise, but it doesn't seem traditional in how its laid out. Maybe a new way of letting newcomers pick what type of team they want to control, but very intriguing.

It's weird isn't it? Because it looks like a league, but at the same time it has a set difficulty and an online reward for winning the WS, along with no obvious option for using multiple teams? So maybe it's like a simple mode version of franchise and there is an option for complex, or maybe it's seasons or an offline DD thing? It doesn't quite fit any box, so it's definitely interesting

Those eyeballs will only remain on them unless Harper announces his signing before them. Most of the extra eyeballs were on their account because MLB.Com reported the remote possibility that The Show would announce Harper's destination.
These are not people already invested in The Show. These were people that you could have won over with an awesome trailer, not some silly spoof teaser.

So its SDS' fault that MLB.com reported that today, SDS/MLB The Show could reveal where Harper was signing?
All SDS said was to pay attention/watch their account. Anything anyone took from that is of their own doing, thus leading to their own disappointment.

Yeah I'll be very curious to see what mode those screens are linked to.
The screens that look like Franchise Mode look more like a return of Season Mode to me, or season within DD, as previously commented.
Hoping (but not expecting) that the Expos uniforms hint at Relocation and/or Expansion (similar to how you can move to Houston in Madden and become the Oilers). I highly doubt it, but there's still a sliver of hope.
Gonna try to stay even-keeled about this teaser and ride out the info. I'll be buying no matter what because I enjoy the game and I'm really into baseball right now, but here's to hoping for something grand with 19.
2019 and we are still doing teaser trailers. If you are going to release a game play trailer on the 5th, you could have saved this for the 4th. I don't want know freaking easter egg trailer again for the 5th time, it's time to be obvious.

No they won't. Nobody who wasn't already considering buying the The Show '19 will fall for their lame hype again after this. They were getting coverage from national news outlets for this announcement for Pete's sake. This was their chance to trick a huge audience only interested in the Harper announcement to watch a proper trailer for their game instead and they blew it.

That was my thinking to...that those screens are a "new" season mode that is tied to Diamond Dynasty. Which is interesting to say the least.
I thought the same thing in regards to the Expos uniforms. Then I saw the Nationals logo on the scoreboard and thought, "no just uniforms". Then I thought about how I think they used Big Sexy to reveal two way players, so maybe this was done to subtly reveal relocation/expansion but didn't want it to be obvious so they left the Nats logo...:google:
I know its reaching but hey its something to think about and discuss. :)

They did something similar already when they put Harper on all 30 teams, simmed a franchise season and then posted his stats along with how the team fared with him on their team.

I remember when SDS just let the game do the talking for them...not troll job social media posts and gimmicky "announcements".

How was SDS to know that MLB.com, or other news outlets, would take this to mean that Harper was going to finally announce which team he was signing with?
All that hype yesterday and all they released is a trailer for a trailer???????
    Really SDS????????? :jpshakehe :duel:
And by the way that little MLB The Show 19 gameplay teaser you just showed at the end of that video looks 100% just like 18 not that we should expect anything different at this point I guess :( lol

To be fair, it was SDS that decided that they would put a big-name free agent on the cover of their game. Any hint that some announcement would be coming is going to appear to the general public that the cover athlete's decision has been made and The Show would be a part of it. Which, to SDS's credit, has been a brilliant strategy. Look how many people got fired up about this! So saying it's not expected that new outlets would pick up on this seems off. They were hoping this got picked up, no doubt.
And to those bigger fans of the game series, a hint would at least mean that some kind of info about MLB 19 released.
I don't know if anyone was hoping/expecting that a Bartolo Colon cologne teaser trailer for a gameplay trailer would be coming out. Why even be cryptic about that? Now it just looks like they played everyone for fools. Who wants to go through that again?
    tnixen

All they did was post a single tweet. The hype came from everyone who read it and wanted it to be something.
    Mission accomplished for marketing.
The screenshots are an interesting leak, though. The perk thing is RTTS, going by the minor league Yard Goats logo in the corner of the screen. Not sure what to make of the tier and difficulty stuff, could be franchise, could be tiered online matchmaking, could be a whole new mode (maybe a controlled "challenge mode" franchise like OOTP)? Who knows, just spitballing.
I wasn't impressed with the trailer, but I am also not upset by it. With a little under two months still left to go until release I wasn't expecting much.
I think they were just trying to be funny but didn't realize how passionate the "hardcore" fan base of this game is.
I will say this though. The show fell out of my rotation quicker last year than it ever has any other year and I am an every year buyer. I am strictly on an offline franchise player and the mode was so stale and same ol same ol last year I was done playing completely last year about 2 months in. I am really hoping for big franchise additions this year. I am also not holding my breath though knowing DD is and will always be priority from here on out.

But what if Harper had already signed and they put out this tweet? Would people still be as upset over what was released today?
Here's how I took it. People have been tweeting at them and posting on forums about the lack of information. On their twitter account, SDS sends out a tweet that you'll want to pay attention to their account, meaning that they were going to reveal some type of information. What that information would be was not stated. Then they release a teaser trailer to announce the first official gameplay trailer would be released on Feb 5th. They chose to do this instead of just tweeting, "Gameplay trailer drops Feb 5th"
Plot Twist - completely unconnected to this reveal, Harper actually DOES decide to sign today, and gives SDS a little more to talk about.
    (I can dream, right?)

That's a perfectly fine way to look at it and I agree with you. I have to think that SDS knows exactly what they are doing - get the biggest free agent on the market to be the cover boy, put out slightly cryptic posts about info being dropped, and then just provide bare minimum. The cryptic posts lead to interpretation, which means people can speculate till the cows come home about what it means - in this case, that Bryce Harper was about to sign.
I mean, their whole offseason marketing is around "Where will Bryce sign?".
What I wonder now is...how are they actually going to handle more news about the game (or Harper) coming out after this. People who are casual fans might feel a bit duped now. Are they gonna care the next time? We shall see.
    countryboy

They've been hyping Harper's decision for months. You're being willfully obtuse if you think their marketing people didn't know exactly how people would respond to that hype tweet given how all their recent Harper tweets got nothing but 'OMG, do you know who Harper's gonna sign with?' responses. Their pinned tweet even leads with 'Where will Bryce go?'.
Now go look at the responses to today's tweet: a ton of angry reaction gifs, a few people saying they're definitely not buying the game now and more people saying they're pissed they turned on notifications for this worthless tweet. It's simply terrible marketing all-around. Agree 100% with Padgoi that it's incredible that anyone would try to spin this in a positive light.

A year late with the Montreal unis Vlad actually wore, but very, very glad to see them make an appearance. If the Expos are playable in franchise, take my money!

I think the Expo unis were shown because Bartolo played for Montreal. All the unis they showed him wearing were from teams he had already played for.
Whether intentionally or not, they got all the scouts to turn up their game, their biggest ever showcase for their skills. Then they laid down a bunt and told everyone to come back next week. Sadly, they won't, so even if they hit a homerun next week, nowhere near as many people will see it.

Right. But they're not the same Montreal unis featured in the game last year, which was strange since they hyped Vladimir Guerrero and then didn't have the Expos uniforms from the era when he actually wore them.
Even if they're just adding a second set of Montreal throwbacks to the Nationals' uniform options, that's a plus. But like others, I'll hold out hope (however slim) for the ability to make the Expos playable.
I'm not trying to start any arguments, I'm simply stating that, in my opinion, this was a horrible idea. As others have mentioned, they used the Bryce shtick to get more people interested in their game. They then teased on their Twitter AND Facebook accounts to look out today for something related to gameplay, clearly trying to get people hyped. And today, after all that hype, they release a teaser trailer for a trailer due out next week, which used Bartolo Colon hitting a home run (something he did 3 ago once) as a speculative precursor to two way players, which is basically something we got in a patch in last years game that literally only relates to one player in the entire league.
So, how is this a good thing? Perhaps I'm too simple minded to understand and my marketing degree was a waste of $60k.

It really doesn't. I just saw that of all the players they could use, they used Colon and showed him as a pitcher and a hitter and just thought, "hey, wonder if this is a subtle, unique way of teasing there are two way players in '19"
It was just pure speculation on my end.

Exactly. I haven't a clue how a NL pitcher also hitting has stirred a discussion on the possibility of a two-way player. Haven't a clue.
This is unbelievable, can't believe what has happened to SDS. Seems like a slap in the face for the loyal fans. With that being said, I will be buying again and hating myself for it.
    countryboy
It really doesn't. I just saw that of all the players they could use, they used Colon and showed him as a pitcher and a hitter and just thought, "hey, wonder if this is a subtle, unique way of teasing there are two way players in '19"
It was just pure speculation on my end.
I hear ya there was just wondering if someone saw something I didn't. Colon is thought of as one of the best hitting pitchers. I am not nearly clever enough to think of what it may hint to, but sds does always place hints in everything they do.
Guys here usually find subtle things I never would see.

I don't think we can blame SDS. It's just a simple lack of competition. Competition brings out the best in things. It's why Madden is relatively bad now, and while MLB seems quite content with being mediocre and stale. NBA2k is the only franchise that really continues to improve, but even that has slowed in recent years. Not a good time to be a sports gamer.

Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk

I must be living under a rock. What patch allows you to have two way players in the show 18?
One thing I noticed for us uniform nerds is that it looks as if the numbers on the front of the jersey are much higher and more where they should be than in years past. Below is an example and if you pause at the 0:28 mark of the vid, you can compare.
They better bring it this year, that's all I will say. Not a good start but its just a "trailer"....for an upcoming trailer
Game to ME(just my opinion) has been getting stale the past couple of years and I've been a die hard since the PS2 days.
Praying the graphics and player models have changed and aren't represented in that trailer.

One of the later patches allowed pitchers to be used as DH's in games they didn't pitch. I know this because my friend used the Angels and Ohtani would DH every game he didn't pitch. He just swapped him in at DH at the beginning of every game he wasn't pitching.

That was literally in since Day 1. If not Day 1, then from very early on.

Would be nice if the competitor had an English version for those of us too lazy to go to the translation site for every little thing in the game.

Agreed. I'd even be happy with auto-translated gibberish to make navigating the menus a bit easier. But I have a rudimentary familiarity with hiragana and katakana so I was able to relatively quickly get a hang of the basics of the menus when I was playing the game every day a year or two back. Would have to start all over again with the translation site if I wanted to jump back in though and that's a major reason I haven't bothered. A high quality PS4 release might give me the proper motivation however. :y220:
What if Bartolo Colon clue wasn’t to introduce a 2 way player but their new character model. Colon is quite a special case in terms of customizing players body :cavalry:
Or, a new way to play as you follow an existing player entire career. ( he played for all those teams in the trailer).

whats sad is a day where a consumer shouldnt voice his opine, be it "right" or "wrong".

I am not treating marketing as the product. I am saying it was a bad marketing move. You generated enough heat to get a ton of eyeballs on your twitter account and then you give them a silly teaser trailer?
I am criticizing their marketing and not their game. I will criticize that separately.

I'm saying anyone that takes to the internet and social media to bash a marketing and PR campaign is part of the toxic gamer problem.
Now, it isn't good enough to just makes a good game, but we have to see gamers bash trailers and teasers as though trailers and teasers matter. And it's not just saying that the PR was poor, what you see in this thread is a toxic level of entitlement that gamers somehow feel entitled to PR and marketing in exactly the way they want it.

I already have a bottle. Not only does it make you smell pretty but it has a foreign substance in it which causes a baseball to move suddenly downward when applied properly.

Only read about 15 of the comments, so excuse me if this is already said... *it's getting very close to Spring Training and cover boy Harper still doesn't have a contract. I'm not sure there's ever been a situation like this(?). *SDS needs to promote The Show 19. Bartolo is a nice "fill in" that isn't suppose to be *taken too seriously, but it is effected since we're all talking about MLB The Show once again after several months. SDS is biting their nails... can't print packaging yet. Can't promote like in past years. I'm in Marketing... I know how they feel.
As for buying the game? No Twitch, or interviews, or teasers, or anything else will influence my decision to buy the game. Of course I'll buy it -- It's the ONLY game in town (unless RBI Baseball completely surprises us).
I'm anticipating buying it this year after skipping last year. But this isn't looking good from the game few clips we just saw. It looks stale already. Seeing the same old canned animations from several years ago. Hopefully they've made RTTS fun again.

I'm no fan of Harper but I dont think what he's got going on is hampering SDS' marketing. They're on their own timetable and even if Harper had had a team since December SDS wasnt going to do marketing in January. If SDS is biting their collective nail, (and I dont think they are) its not about Harper, it would probably be something about diamond dynasty lol also dont think they're going to need anything printed until late February. And Harper will have long signed by then and be in camp. Even if he has to resign with Washington
What do they always say at SDS ? "WORK IN PROGRESS".
What's with all the secrecy? It's a video game! After removing season mode and online franchise last year and not saying anything to anyone especially during there live streams last year where they had perfect opportunity instead they tell us at release. The at least they could do is promote the return of one if not both modes but instead continue to hide everything and then continue to ask us to pre order the game? Just my opinion but there getting SHADY.
They will continue to spam us with diamond dynasty crap instead of trying to keep there loyal fan base that got them here where they are today. This card collecting crap will eventually be a thing of the past and then What?

Yeah, they stopped releasing info in January at least a few years ago. I know for years the time table was: teaser trailer around November, first few tidbits of info the second week of December, trailer & fact sheet in January. But that mostly stopped around when they started doing the streams and stuff around MLB 16 or 15.
After watching that trailer was I the only one who felt the need to make a sandwich, eat a bag of cookies and then order a extra large pizza while trying to figure out what’s for dinner???

    Yeah probably.
I bet the replies on Twitter are a mess. I thought it was funny and had low expectations for what we were getting today anyway but I have a feeling some people weren’t so amused though when they found out they got all excited and hyped....for this.
For those who feel let down, what were you expecting from them on Jan 29th? Hopefully not any facsimile of detailed information. It's not their method to do info dumps of any substance anymore (heh, dumps).
Love it or hate it, this is how marketing works sometimes and specifically how their marketing works. If you aren't a 20-something college kid and don't default to "bro" when addressing strangers, then you might not always get the joke, but you best believe this is the demographic they are targeting with a 43-second running Bartolo Colon joke (heh, Bartolo Colon running).
Personally, I don't like the trailer for a trailer for a trailer Inception/Russian nesting doll stuff, and they're not winning over any of us skeptics with this type of thing, but it's all about setting expectations. Mine were very low as far as quantity/quality of info I expected to receive on Jan. 29th so it's more of a brief eye roll to me than mortal outrage.
As far as the studio is concerned, I bet they had fun making this video and there's gotta be some value in that, right? Blow off a little steam as the dev cycle starts to get really serious. Tying things to Bryce Harper probably ends up a net positive for them? Who's to say.
Just wish I had been quick enough to view those "leaked" screenshots (ironic that the only actual bit of hard info today was not even supposed to be released) before they got removed. Someone should get Alanis Morissette to write a song about it.
    Bartolo Colon

Honestly WTNY, outside of the photos that showed a team selection screen that broke down teams in tiers, there really wasn't anything to see in the photos. The ones that were taken on the field, looked like what we've seen before. :)
The reddit subreddit for The Show which is probably the largest contingency for DD also is bringing large criticism.

Speaking of: imagine if those screenshots were indeed supposed to be released, then labeled as leaked, and then taken down. That would be interesting marketing, eh?
I’m not buying the SDS Hate I’m hearing. I think the core of this game is the most true representation to it’s real life counterpart in sports gaming. I am still playing 18’ and will continue to until OSFM works their magic on 19’.
I do feel like this year we will find out what way SDS is heading on the crossroads. ShowHeads have been clambering for a while now about bullpen/roster logic, and some form of player tendency. The roars also appear to be getting louder year-over-year for animation updates to make these models more “athletic”. I think the overhaul to swing animations, and subtle tweaks throughout the year to get it near perfect, was a fantastic indicator that SDS is acknowledging growth is needed in that space.
FWIW, I don’t get all the bash DD hype because I truly feel SDS would not be releasing an annual title today if it weren’t for that mode’s popularity/revenue. I do get frustrated at some of the blatant pandering they do for that type of gamer, but such is life and I know it ensures my favorite sports title will arrive every March.
I have faith in SDS that this year we get rotating interleague, better jersey templates, and with two-way players, finally updated roster logic.

They were getting coverage from national news outlets for this announcement for Pete's sake. This was their chance to trick a huge audience only interested in the Harper announcement to watch a proper trailer for their game instead and they blew it.

While I’m on the side of the fence that thinks SDS is leveraging their cover athlete and his current situation to their advantage, I think you hit on a really good point. They did have national news outlets talking about their game and definitely missed an opportunity to target a market outside of their core gamers.
While I still don’t think they lead anyone on and people are disappointed by setting their own expectations and ultimately being let down, I agree Jon... they had a chance to absolutely kill it by calling an audible and putting out a trailer to a captive audience and blew it.
I love the show, but I skipped last years because I need them to bring it graphic, commentary and immersion wise this year. It's a very good game so no shade but it lacks that "I need to play this every day feeling" it used to have.
I did notice there were stadium signs the said "MLB '19" but I also noticed the mob 150 year anniversary patch every team will be wearing is not on any of those uniforms. so its possible graphical upgrades for '19 were not included in this "trailer". which was the case for the alpha the last two years as well.
You guys are just tired and cranky from not having gotten any MLBTS info all winter. This is a teaser trailer to just get you thinking about the game again. More info will be released after the Super Bowl, as it has been for a few years now lol. Why did anyone expect the first bit of info to be everything you ever wanted to know??? Of course it's going to be a teaser trailer!! We'll get better info in less than a week. Be grateful the boring awful NFL is almost over and we can start talking about baseball again. Bartolo is a baseball fan favorite character, it wasn't hilarious but it was different and not something bland they gave us today. Be positive people! I can smell spring training it's so close! I'm willing to bet in 3 weeks you guys will forget about this.
This might be the biggest all-teaser, no-pleaser whiff since the "Who is Cartman's father?" debacle from "South Park."

I mean they could have just dropped a full trailer. To say keep an eye on the account today and we get like 20 second flash of gameplay. With animations I've seen for the last 5 years.
Maybe I'm being cranky. But I absolutely hate that I wont know anything about franchise until about 12 days before the game like last year. That's hard to excuse imo.
Here's an idea... SDS has been focusing most of their attention on DD the last few years because of the revenue it brings in. Why not appease the franchise people while making money as well? For example (and don't kill me for suggesting this), why not charge for relocation or build a stadium? Hey, I want a billion dollar new Yankee stadium, sure, but you need a certain amount of stubs to purchase those bigger upgrades or relocation. I know it's cheesy, but wouldn't that sorta appease the franchise junkies while still bringing revenue in? Just an idea because us franchise people need some love and it seems we won't be getting much of it unless it involves some revenue stream for SDS.

There is no overreaction, just disappointment. Same contrived stale marketing lame teasers, easter egg trailers and holding back of info as if some competitor is going to steal their feature set or idea. We are so long in the tooth with this game. Teasers are a non starter, and that is the same for NBA 2K, Madden, NHL Hockey ect... Teasers in a sports game are a wrong headed idea. Have you seen the number iterative? behind these games? it's not year 1 or 2, we are in year 19 damn near 2 decades.

Yes, that is what I'm suggesting because, as I said, it appeases the masses by improving upon franchise, but it also appeases SDS by generating a revenue stream. SDS has made it clear their first priority is DD because it generates additional revenue for them. So our choices are - not getting any substantial franchise improvements or adding a paywall to unlock certain franchise additions. At least with the second way we'd be getting some improvements.

While I understand your premise, you're comparing apples and oranges.
In DD, a user is not forced/required to spend additional real life currency to obtain stubs to purchase card packs or whatever else. The user can earn stubs by playing the game and earning them through gameplay.
Adding a paywall is literally forcing the user to spend additional money, on top of the price of the game, to play certain aspects of the game. Not only is that immoral, but it is a great way of losing loyal customers who have asked for years for those features to be added to the game.

You can earn stubs through playing Franchise, too. I've never played DD but have tons of stubs available on 18. His idea is a "paywall" only in the sense that you have the option to speed up the process of whatever by paying for stubs. As long as you can earn them through playing and get enough for whatever feature, I'd be cool with it if it adds more stuff to franchise.

Even if it requires hours upon hours of grinding to be able to it like in DD? Sorry no. If they ever do this, I'm out. It would basically be a slap in the face to anyone who has been waiting year after year for new features for franchise, only to finally get them and find that you need to wade through hours of tedium just to access it. Or you can conveniently pay to skip the wait. It's essentially the same thing a free to play mobile game would do, only this would cost $60 from the start. It's blatantly anti-consumer.

The Show needs a Kangaroo Court. Every time you break a bat, you have to pay a dollar to DL another. Every time you plunk a batter, a dollar goes in the KangaShow Jar.
Not suprised to see SDS catching flak for that bad trailer, but was kind of suprised to see them getting hammered on twitter and youtube so badly for it too. Really wish they would get back on track to how the game would be advertised and prioritized back when the series really took off (not coincidentally) from 2010-2013

No it's definitely a over reaction. A 50 second video meant as a joke and people are already acting as if SIE SD released their feature list and nothing has been changed. As a franchise mode player myself I'm just as frustrated with the series as the next person but I'm waiting for stuff in February/March to release before I take out my pitchfork.

It’s not the trailer, though the trailer was poor IMO, but rather how it was promoted. People don’t like getting jerked around.

Jerked around? All their Twitter account said was "keep an eye on this account tomorrow". They never specifically said for what it was. If people thought it would be news then that's their fault for being disappointed especially when the time frame for the release of news of the game has been pretty much the same for the last couple of years.

A joke? Well, therein lies a problem. I don’t see anybody upset that it’s not a feature list. It’s an opinion that this “joke” on the people who buy their product, here, on twitter, facebook, is a
childish promotion by them that I don’t believe too many understand why it was even necessary, or appreciated.

Totally understand your point of view and I agree, however I feel like putting it behind a paywall that can be earned is better than nothing. I mean, this community has been clamoring for franchise updates for years and the most we've gotten is that nonsense from last year where you can start at different parts of the season, which in essence was only added to appease the fairweather fans. Clearly they're not putting any resources on franchise because it simply doesn't generate the revenue of DD. I just think it would be a better idea if, instead of ignoring franchise altogether, they put some type of revenue stream in place where you can earn stubs in franchise in order to buy things like relocation or building a new stadium but make there be an option to unlock it with real money. It's not apples to oranges because DD is a very similar concept. They aren't putting resources into it because of the revenue. So . . .. create a revenue opportunity and put the resources behind it.

I would refuse to buy it. I do not use stubs for franchise mode to increase my budget.
I want a sim experience and want to feel as if I am on level playing field with cpu. I refuse to "cheat" by buying franchise funds. I don't even use the sponsorship because the CPU doesn't.
Franchise should be a fully functioning mode. I do not want to role play and gain points to buy something. One of the reasons I don't play madden anymore. Gain xp to improve your players attributes. It's not realistic.

I understand what you’re saying and it’s a better option than what there’s currently which is nothing, but I think they will lose customers if they do this after it being requested for years.

I think we're only talking about non-essential features. I'm assuming you bought 18 without expansion stuff, so not paying for the subs to acquire it in 19 would be just like not having it in 19 (which is most likely the case). It doesn't really change the game you experience, but for those okay with grinding or paying more, we get a cool feature.

Exactly. I'm not talking about buying stubs in franchise to make your players better. I'm talking about relocation/expansion or create a stadium. I wouldn't actually care because I have no interest in relocating my team, but these are non-essential features that would be like not being in the game if you didn't buy them.
And you're talking about losing customers by putting a new feature behind a paywall, but isn't it just as bad by ignoring an entire sector of your client base for going on a decade? We've had the same requests for YEARS and we've been largely ignored. So what's worse?

If that's the case then people should be mad at their social media team and not the dev team.
Tbh, if they released a decent pre game editor (like they have had on the Championship/Football Manager games for the past 20 years) as a $10 addon, I'd be all over that and I imagine a lot of people would, especially if you could use it to edit franchise conditions (number of teams, expansion, reduction, length of season etc etc etc)

Better yet, why not treat it like the different editions. Base $60: get the game with feature group x; $80: get feature group x and y; $100: get feature group x, y, and z. This is no different than car manufacturers releasing new models every year with slight upgrades and you pay more for the more features you want.
Not to mention game prices haven’t increased in I don’t know how long. At this point, we, the consumer, are pretty lucky to only have to pay $60 for a AAA title.
DD obviously brings in a large amount of post release revenue. This offers away for franchise to bring in more revenue for the game and thus get more attention during the dev cycle.

The developers didn’t put this together. It was the advertising department. I don’t think people are upset w/the devs. Heck, the devs have marching orders and they have to follow $them$.
Aside from what it means/I'm so disappointed context with this trailer...I thought the trailer itself was somewhat unfunny. Like an inside joke between 2 people that was shared with others who didn't find it that funny. A bit late on the 'Bartolo Colon is fat and also plays baseball' joke that was at its zenith in 2016 or so. I cringed a little bit thinking that someone in their organization thought this was social media gold.
    There's no accounting for taste.
    TripleCrown9
    Where did that happen?

I assigned blame to the wrong platform, but I bet the same person runs all their social media accounts. It was on Facebook that the commenter asked if this was gameplay related? and the reply was to keep an eye out on this account tomorrow. Steve even posted the comment in the previous thread.
Say what you will, but it just shows incredibly bad taste to release this trailer.
    1. If it was a joke, it wasn't very funny. Like, even if you weren't upset (which I wasn't, I didn't care as I wasn't expecting much), it still wasn't funny. Aren't jokes supposed to elicit laughter?
    2. With the community already not happy with the last few releases, what genius thought this was a good idea? Forget trolling, it's almost as if they have zero respect for their clientele base at this point.
    3. It's old news. Bartolo is fat. He's been fat. He hit a home run in 2016. Are they that behind on the times?
At this point, I don't think anyone cares what the point of the trailer was or what it was intended to show. It was just really ridiculous.
