NBA 2K18 Has Redone MyCareer Mode, Combining Several Modes Into The Neighborhood

Details
- MyCareer additions are being announced at the top of the show.
- “The Neighborhood” is a new open world experience which combines elements of The Park, Pro-Am, and MyCareer.
- The Trailer is pretty cool.
- “The Road to 99” is the theme of the mode.
- You can play street games, go into stores to buy new gear for your players, or play pick up games on courts in the open world.
- The Park mode is gone specifically — but the Park experience will be available under the new MyCareer mode.
- Archetypes will involve primary and secondary selections. That will dictate your style of play and how your player develops. There’s a lot more versatility to it. (See full list)
- All archetypes have a unique set of badges. You decide how you want to upgrade your player, by practicing with what you want to practice so you can develop your player how you want to.
- This will effectively make it where you can upgrade and build your player in multiple ways on the road to 99, versus being stuck in just MyCareer.

then I woke up
then I woke up*
I think the O'Bannon lawsuit has ended stuff like that for a while
Caps are still in
I hope they still focus on our career choices in NBA and something realistic
I dont know a lot of NBA player that are just playing in the playground everyday
Lets see
The ratings caps should be implemented once you take your guy online. If you want to make an all 99 guy in the offline MyPlayer, you should be able to. It wouldn't be hard to implement at all
Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk
all modes are connected into one says the guys on the stream. You have one player to customize in all modes
Sent from my Illudium Q-36 Space Modulator,
All created player modes are connected is what i heard. could be wrong
The way they are connected in Steep/Crew or do I have to active Live or Plus to play myCareer now?
You can connect with other players in those Ubisoft games because the game is "always online" but you don't have to have Live/Plus to play.
I believe they have a single player story mode included if that's what you're referring to, but it's also connected to the online multiplayer side.
So if you only want to play the story mode you can do that, but if you don't want to touch the story mode you don't have to.
That's what I'm gathering from this, but I may be wrong.

Shooting bigman/defense
pure sharpshooter
shooting/slasher
pure playmaker
Sent from my Illudium Q-36 Space Modulator,
Yeah, I'm hopeful with something this big they would've been forced to dedicate significant resources to fixing their servers.

In the trailer I saw people on bikes. I wonder if that's in it.
So we can roam around, so what.
I would rather hear about the actual mechanics and details of MyCareer.
I also could care less about what {insert interviewee} is going to do first!
Also skateboards. I'm guessing as you rank up, you unlock those kinda of like the last few years on the Park but this time it's to get around the entire neighborhood.
Love the concept of an open neighborhood and love that there's a badge progress tracker and the whole Road to 99 system. Just waiting for them to say The Prelude lets you roam around and get a taste for offline MyCareer but I would be very excited for online gameplay as well in it.

So you really think they're not going to announce details of the mode too? Man, you'd be the worst marketer ever. "Hey now that we've got you all on stream, let's show some lists of bullet points!"

Almost like it's a promo event or something lol.
Hey, De they had that it was called Create a Legend and they removed it.....
Maybe they will, but we are an hour in and they haven't. How many hours will this be?
and, now Ronnie says it is over, so what happened with all that info?
Nope. Just MyCareer today.
They released a boat load of MyGM/MyLeague info a few weeks ago.
Hey, De they had that it was called Create a Legend and they removed it.....
It was interesting because the response was "We have some secrets in store" with that. Who knows if it means anything but was almost like they were hinting you can do something like that.

It's a business, so they'll always be looking at how beneficial investing in any certain mode will be for them. This Neighborhood mode is much more technically stressing than an online association would be but the former is what will provide them the most profit. That's just the reality.
Sounded more to me like he was talking about making your MyPlayer look a certain way, not actually assuming the identity of an existing player ratings, abilities and all.
Hard to say since they didn't really talk about anything but "The Neighborhood".
Sounds like I may become a MyGM/ML only player.
All in all, I'm looking forward to this. Thing is with 2K, you always gotta keep in your mind that the past few years, at least one online mode has been broken until a patch and the servers can be terrible at times. So it has me weary but maybe they allocated resources finally to a dedicated server to be able to handle all of this.
Will the houses still look like cardboard boxes like every other 2k? That kills the vibe of open world even more.
I buy 2k to play ball so i dont care for all this extra stuff especially if it brings more lag to an already weak servers.
The badge progression tracker
Must have to earn them through drill points or something, noway you gotta hit 12,000 shots for a badge
"Free Throw Ace" is new

we need to know what we will build before we get the game
attributes, what badges we can get etc.
I saw the trailer, it looked pretty dope...but I saw the silly gym exercises again and I'm praying we can level up in different ways instead of doing a bunch of fake workout drills that only workout my thumbs.

No, you have badge caps. Need to keep things sim here...""
NO REAL footage shown, two weeks away.. that's a bit sketchy.
This is MY OPINION- Just wanted real news and stuff about gameplay ... again put the stuff as a side mode, I don't want interactions with footlocker or a doorman. trying so hard to replicate how players act and live off the court hopefully they didn't forget how they PLAY ON the court.
Only positive thing I got out of it.. is Ronnie pretty much hinted you can play myplayer vs myplayer... other than that.. shoes, haircuts, basically a generic GTA scene.
This is MY OPINION- Just wanted real news and stuff about gameplay ..
I guess you missed the two gigantic blog posts with videos, by Da Czar and Scott OG?
100% gameplay details, more content than I could imagine being crammed into a year.

Of which they said they didn't know when asked whether it worked or how it worked in MyCareer.
:y11:
I wanted to see the actual GAMEPLAY.
Besides a shaky CAM video I've NOT seen any IN GAME footage.
They can write how great the defense is and how great everything else is...but that's all fine to write.. it but how about showing it???? Two weeks away.
They try to simulate LIFE offline, how about simulate basketball.. want to immerse people ... how about finally doing a face scan that actually LOOKS like us??? Instead of working on haircuts.
Don't get me wrong but makes me very nervous they worked on those modes rather than gameplay.. no real footage yet.
I was waiting and waiting.. but c'mon ..Ronnie kept saying how cool it was to walk around.. get a haircut really???
I'm sure i'm not the only one a bit disappointed in this hour event.
Looking at the facebook live numbers went from 8.1k to 4 after about 30 minutes

Nice start to the show, but I agree the excitement faded quick. I'm surprised they didn't show any gameplay. The blogs from OG and Czar were PHENOMENAL! It concerns me that they are not eager to show off these gameplay and graphical improvements.
If someone could confirm this, I'd appreciate it a whole lot.

I can get people being disappointed and a little bit about the gameplay aspect but are people forgetting we're getting a Prelude next week? We're going to play out gameplay there in some form before the game comes out. Same with the offline MyCareer info if it's anything like last year's.
I mean at the end of the day too between gameplay updates and tweaks that may happen, people are so fixated on gameplay when it can all change in an instant. I think those that are weary should just wait a month or two off of buying it and seeing how gameplay shakes out. Just an honest opinion because 2K17 showed that it could be an entirely different game from how it started. I'm not saying anyone is wrong to expect gameplay but if you know 2K with the way they marketed this event and flying out Youtubers, you pretty much know it's going to be a reveal and info on the mode rather than anything tangible.
Remove the bakteballs and you'd swear it was GTA!
REal gameplay videos..pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee :)

Obvioulsy it applies to all gameplay including mycareer?

I agree. I thought it was going to be longer than just a hour. I expected what I saw, but I thought there would be a lot more.
This is just online stuff pretty cool to make young people going wild about "OPEN WORLD"
So I hope we will have a REAL MY CAREER BLOG and informations because there was basically nothing about Mycareer...
Yes 2k 17 changed many times.. with all those patches, makes me wonder what 2k18 GAMEPLAY holds..
They only patched what people complained about.. if they take the time on the gameplay that they did for haircuts and cut scenes won't need 7 patches.
Great my guy can have top of the line sneakers, pants, fancy shirt and sweater looking nice.. but then the face scan shows an alien...:)
You make good points.. but sorry I must say this is cutting it close with gameplay videos.. and personally they're becoming silly with flying people out to hype a game, and making it all about them... what about US?
Don't get me wrong the few youtubers help out greatly.. with ideas and taking input from the forums.. and relaying it to them..
I want flashy and stylish ON the COURT, not a hype machine when we already love 2k... :)

I gotta agree with this part of your quote...honestly I am amazing that so many of us 2k fans want to play the Sims with a basketball game. The first guy interviewed went on and on about how this is what the community wants and the community has been asking for this. I don't follow the "community" like that so it was surprising to hear him say.
But I guess all the young people want to connect with friends through their games and phones and not in person any more so this will be a substitute for getting a real haircut and kicking it with the real homies in person. So it's probably perfect for anyone 25 and under.
But I'm 41 and I want college teams and offline parks and the ability to play 3-on-3 with a mix of Legends and Created Players and not having to be forced online to enjoy myself.

There were multiple youtubers there and no one checked to see if any of them were streaming?

I'm on your side, I just know how 2K works so people getting worked up about it confuses me unless they're new to the game. Every year we get a trailer that shows off some cut scenes and maybe like one or two scenes of gameplay before we have to wait until the actual game to see how it plays out (or the usual streams that break out days before it releases).
It's a lot better than years past though let's be honest. Days where we got no demo/Prelude, last year when we got no info on Park until the game basically launched and never got that Park video that was supposed to come out. This year we know what the deal is with everything connected and how we're going to be able to upgrade our guy. Zach Timmerman is actually giving some nuggets of info on how the dual system and badges work on his Twitter if people want to check that out and we got defensive and offensive blogs that explained a lot with pics and videos.
Probably the most annoying part to me was it felt like they were trying to cram too much into that stream because anytime a guest was roaming and trying to line up for a game they'd go to an interview. Best bet is just to hope they learn from this and maybe next year we'll progress to the point that they'll interview people while they play the game and show us their games rather than interviewing them about the game. One can hope, right?
i guess we'll have a detailled blog later on fellas. be patient

I intend to wait, but it breaks my heart a little because so much good stuff was in the blogs and my finger was on the trigger. BUT, I play mostly MyCareer with a little MyGM/ML mixed in.
After that event I am back to seeing what the Xmas sale might offer. Which sucks because I fear it may reflect poorly on the work others have done when I hold off. But MyCareer apparently has very little to appeal to me at the moment.
I clicked on the LINK 41 minutes of pure nothing.. then they play the park... so shaky and blurry.. can't really see a thing... then shows 5 on 5.. so blurry again ... no way you can tell anything.. at all. When I say blurry, I mean old bootleg vhs blurry!
I'm going with my gut here, I know 2k will bring a great game,, but really one hour of this event... and no one really knows much of anything... every stream they talked and talked Ronnie said make sure you tune in to the BIG event... 3:30... surely you can see why people are let down.
I will ignore the blurry videos... and go with my gut.. maybe just them trying to please everyone with this "in game stuff" but seems like they're just making us play online or do things... rather than play basketball.
I do understand that, but majority want to play.. I don't want to roam around... I don't have all day and night...I don't care if there's 50 gym equipments exercise... the 4 or 6 they had last year was a BAD idea and was FORCED on us... to get attribute points.
Honestly 2k has not done much since 2k14.. which was amazing to play... oh yeah Virtual Currency... they added that.. insult to injury!
Give us deep career, franchise.. everything not focus on parks and shoes.
I will stop ranting lol... just have high hopes for 2k... would hate to see them stink up the joint... by spending 1/2 the creation time on shoes and tattoos and haircuts.. don't get me wrong My jaw dropped when I saw I could Press the A button to talk to the Footlocker salesman! (Ground Breaking)
OKay, i've been Harsh only because 2k can make magic... and I have high expectations from them!

Thanks a bunch!!
Edit: The game looks okay.. so very blurry.. that I'm going to wait for a real video... what seems so weird is .. sure it's in HD or 4k mode.. why can't someone simply use an iphone or samsung... and record it steady...??? and 480???
Thanks for the link though...! I will wait..:)
Cheers!

That event was a flop. Idc
Out of those only free throw ace is new . NBA Players in the game have drop stepper and post spin technician.
Don't remember who but check Demarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis
Some of the streamers have been playing other game modes and quick game, but they 2K only talked about the park and career
Saw some steady video, game looks super smooth, did hear the guy say Kyrie and another player cannot be stopped (HOF) level... but sure it can be tuned down!
Gameplay looks great, again still no idea why they're releasing information like this! The gameplay is smooth.. show that baby off!!! :)
Cheers!

Posted this link in another thread. Decent video alright quality (only 420p). The YouTuber bounces around, had to skip some moments that weren't focused on the game. A mix of 5 on 5 and my career. Some teams shown Mavs (2011?) Vs 07 warriors, all time raptors vs all time rockets, all-time bulls vs all time Cavs. A lot of the 5 on 5 shown at the end.

What makes you say that you have a set nickname? I didn't see anything that said you had to have that. It was on the back of the guy's jersey as he was walking through the neighborhood, but that doesn't necessarily mean you're stuck with a predetermined name. Could simply be the character name of whoever was playing the game for the trailer.

His name is DJ because he walks around with headphones, and eventually you unlock a recording studio, I think it makes sense.

If you start thinking about it, it's pretty hard to have an actual story where nobody ever says your name, unless it's a text adventure.. in fact I think it would be downright awkward.
Plus skateboards as well
