NBA 2K18 Run The Neighborhood Trailer and Details

2K has just released their NBA 2K18 Run The Neighborhood trailer, showing off a new way to play the game.

The Neighborhood combines the best parts of MyPARK, Pro-Am and the popular MyCAREER experience to create a shared world where players can immerse themselves into the game to socialize, explore and compete.

The Neighborhood is the first-of-its-kind in any sports career mode and allows players to enjoy NBA 2K18 the way they want. MyPLAYERs live in a neighborhood environment with other real players and in-game characters. Ratings and how you progress in the game are dependent on your actions.

NBA 2K Unveils Groundbreaking New Way to Play NBA 2K18 Your Way with The Neighborhood

Live the life of a baller in a completely immersive and interactive basketball community

New York, NY – August 31, 2017 – 2K today unveiled the evolution of the NBA 2K franchise with the introduction of the first live world inside NBA 2K18. The team is bringing the most loved elements of NBA 2K – MyPARK, Pro-Am and the popular MyCAREER experience – together into a shared world for players to truly experience the life of an NBA athlete, both on the court and off.

“We’ve elevated the NBA 2K experience to new heights by putting players at the center of a fully-immersive basketball environment to explore, socialize, and most importantly compete,” said Greg Thomas, President of Visual Concepts. We can’t wait to see what this means for the future of the brand, and for fans to get their hands on NBA 2K18 starting September 15th.”

The Neighborhood is unlike anything ever seen in NBA 2K or any other sports career mode before. MyPLAYERs live in a neighborhood environment with several locations in the city blocks to visit, flush with other MyPLAYERS and characters with whom to interact. Experiences and ratings revolve around player actions, whether it’s running into Kyrie Irving while getting a shave at the barbershop, competing on the courts in The Playground, getting inked at the tattoo parlor, listening to the latest beats or showing off the latest gear to friends while strolling the block. A user’s experience is entirely shaped by how they compete, allowing them to reap the rewards of playing NBA 2K18 the way they enjoy it most.

NBA 2K18 is also introducing the Road to 99, the overarching meta-game that rewards users for improving their MyPLAYER’s overall rating, regardless of which modes they choose to play. Featuring a unified badge system across Pro-Am, Park and their NBA journey in MyCAREER, their attributes, animations and badges all combine to define their play style on your road to a 99 overall rating.

As previously announced, on September 8, fans can get an early taste of NBA 2K18 with this year’s version of “The Prelude,” a free, downloadable experience that begins their journey into The Neighborhood available on PlayStation®4 and Xbox One. Players can kick-off their NBA 2K18 experience prior to the game’s launch and continue where they left off when the game officially releases one week later.

Developed by Visual Concepts, NBA 2K18 is rated by the E10+ by the ESRB. NBA 2K18 will be available for PlayStation®4 system and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox One and Xbox 360; Nintendo Switch and Windows PC platforms on September 19, 2017.

Fans can pre-order NBA 2K18 at participating North American retail and online vendors, ensuring they receive their copy and in-game bonuses ahead of the game’s September 19th release date.

  1. That's some Grand theft Auto type ****, WOW!! 2k is going crazy this year. If I had been 13 or 14, I could've lived off of 2k18 for months and play hours on end. I might still check it out, though MyCareer has never interested me before.
So always no matchmaking for MyPark? You always have to wait hours on the side ?
Wow...I mean we're in 2017. What kind of game which is PvP doesn't have a matchmaking...I don't get it.

I mean, its probably gonna be like the park was the last few years
R.I.P. NBA Live. I feel so bad for the other game cause 2k just unleashed some bombs today Hiroshima style. Well worth the wait.

This mode is heading in the direction of Second Life. this opens a world of possibilities for 2k and its users to make real virtual money. One day instead of getting a hair cut at the barber shop, I might want to open the barber shop and make virtual money from those who frequent it.
Interesting concept. Like usual Ill check it out for a day or two. I have yet to be really interested in that mode

Well so much for separating offline and online my player. Instead they combined it further. Super disappointing.

I mean we'll still have our offline my player story. Nothing has changed there. It's just you get to walk around in an "online type open world".
You don't have to play in ANY online games at all, you can still keep it all offline as far as your games and your player.
Disappointed that there is still no way of getting in with your friends(matchmaking) and getting out...Still the same problem of having to load up to each other's neighborhood now..:( 5v5 private pro am? Like 3 years now of waiting and lagging out on dots..:(
Look, I get it, basketball is largely an urban game.
But being a country boy in a farming community, I really, really wish we could have had the option to start out in a small rural town, a la Larry Bird.
Oh well. Gotta have all those stores in close proximity, and small towns and wide-open spaces don't exactly lend themselves to that, especially without a way to drive cars (which is a whole other engine unrelated to basketball).
So I'll live. Still getting the game.
Still looking forward to this mode, even though I'm a franchise guy now.

It's really the online restrictions that bother me. As an offline player, I don't like attribute caps. Make some attributes harder to upgrade, but don't prevent me from making the type of player I want to make.

My CC was as hyped watching this as I was. Can't wait to miss a hundred dollars tomorrow!
And idk if anyone noticed but it looks like court size was fixed along with badges and charter progression... 2k17 was honestly the worst 2K I've played but this year they might make up for it.

Kinda seems like you start out in the NBA? That's a letdown for me if so. I liked the college element and high school in 2K16. Otherwise, impressive.
So they made more of a hassle to get accessories now?
I understand bringing the community together and all that but I just want to know what's different about MyCareer mode.
Is it me or is there less haircuts?? and also u cant combinde 3 beards??
im dissapointed.. its the same as 2K17 but with walking arround.. Tattoos, barber shop, park, practice.. thats nothing new its just that u can walk there.. also i am very dissapointed that u play on Game at a Playground and ur in the NBA.. i love playing in Collegfe.. -.-

I wish they allowed you to opt out of bringing your player online so that you're player play can enter the NBA with a more realistic OVR rating, like in the Jordan mode from 2K11 where Jordan starts out at 79ovr.

    THIS
even though the other game has a smoother looking "street game"
I could go on about how it seems like every game is trying to adopt an "open world" structure or how I think traversing the area will probably get old fast or that it looks like we're getting another cornball agent or how VC will infest the mode in more ways than ever before.. but you gotta give credit to 2k for trying something different.
It's hard not to feel like My Career has been less and less appealing to me since they started rolling with these mandatory stories, as long as My League is straight then it doesn't matter but My Career just seems like a mess of offline and online ideas taped together and it's just too diffuse.
This was inevitable that this would happen someday. I think Chris Smoove has really influenced the way myplayer has become with his creative story telling my career videos started back in 2K11.
Gonna be interesting to see how it performs though (I'am guessing badly) or how deep it really is year one.
NBA 2k19, featuring the new mode MyCITY, where we've expanded our popular neighborhood into multiple neighborhoods!

Earn enough VC (or collect 100,000 if you pre-order TODAY) and you TOO can unlock access to the local Maserati, Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini or Rolls Royce dealerships, and drive back to your $10 million estate, or cruise through the city with your other e-millionaire friends!

Definitely, the content levels in this game is off the chart.
Between MyCareer, MyTeam, MyGM, and MyLeague, that's four distinct (and superbly deep) modes of gameplay -- essentially, four games in one.
Add in the Play Now online aspect of it, and Online MyLeague, and you have the deepest sports game this generation. Very impressive.
I may be totally wrong but I feel as if they got rid of being able to use VC to actually upgrade your player. From the fact that you have to pay for literally EVERYTHING else even changing the color of your hair added to the fact that your overall seems to be set up the same way as your rep was last year. If this is the case that is a horrible change and A LOT of people are going to be very upset.
    Vni
Guys at 2K are probably shaking in their boots reading this.

People have been begging them to stop allowing you to use VC to upgrade your player but I think a lot of people forgot how annoying MyPlayer was before VC was introduced. If they went back to that play style the backlash with be loud and fierce, barbershops and footlockers be damned.
Might be controversial, but I really don't like this very much. I would have liked if they went back to the basics with MyPlayer and made it about going through college, going through draft workouts (maybe expanding that concept to have drills vs other potential rookies to impress teams and then have meetings with teams), choosing agents, getting drafted (or not), going through summer league, training camp, preseason, fighting for a spot in the rotation (or getting sent to the G league, would have been great to have that back in the mode), then the NBA season.
This collision of Park and MyPlayer assumes that the most amount of people play both (maybe the numbers do indicate that) but I literally never once played MyPark or ProAm. I guess if I get the game it'll be only MyTeam and PlayNow for me.
We should get a bike from the getgo. Myplayer literally has one speed and it's slow....i wish they would add a run button.

I hope they have some Brian Scalabrine shoes. Give me the White Mamba any day. ;)
Ipodking Carter mentioned that college might be in the prelude but we go undrafted then have to try out ?
That would be dope and probably please a lot of people
I just got kicked out of a MTO game in the second quarter and was rewarded a loss. I'm not holding out any hope that 2k servers will be able to handle this. I can see us getting disconnected from MyCareer now constantly, as well at MyTeam.

I agree with a lot of this. I won't spend too much time raining on the parade - I actually think it all looks pretty cool. I just wish there was a way for offline gamers to enjoy some of these things as well. Also... those forced stories still just kill me. I can't stand MY player living out a terrible movie script all the time.
I think I just wish I could extract all the awesome stuff (a lot of the open world, the actual MyPlayer in-game play, choosing my own path in press conferences) and leave behind all the other things (storyline, playing against other players online, etc).
I know, I'm the minority though. No harm there. At least this game is offering up a lot for me in other realms. In that respect I think I have to give 2K props for trying their best to not leave any type of gamer behind. I'm impressed by just about everything thus far.
    youvalss
Waiting for a video of map size comparison of this vs. GTA 5 and Just Cause 3.

Its gonna be way smaller, this is like 3 blocks worth of stuff
As someone who doesn't play all these other modes, I sometimes wonder how crazy the actual game would play and look if they didn't use all those resources on all the other stuff.
Cool stuff tho, if that's what you're into.
Why is everyone so impressed with this?
So instead of easily upgrading in the menu I have to load a long loading screen of a neighborhood and run through a bunch of clowns to get to a shop and then pay VC for a haircut??
Instead of easily changing my shoes I now have to load a long loading screen and run to foot locker. Why does this sound good?
They can make anything look good on a trailer, but they are just making everything you do take longer and cost more. Don't people just want to play basketball and easily change shoes and stuff?
The only notable thing they mentioned is an arcade, to play with friends, and honestly that's minor.
They will probably start you at a 55 rating again, yet somehow your a top stud college prospect.
This is just sad, another year of great marketing but this is one of the worst features to ever be added to a 2k game. I can't imagine the countless hours that were wasted programming this just so some loser could pretend he's walking into a real foot locker. I can't believe they would waste so much valuable time. Sounds like a clever way to vc grab at more fun neighborhood shops. Can't believe people are excited for this (and 2k has good gameplay and insane editing. Props. So don't think I just hate the game, just very upset that they would bring in such a bad feature ( *done with rant*

    Agree 100%.
Which is why it annoys me when someone mentions something they like or want improved, and then people chime in saying "big deal man, that's not even important". But then they go on to say what is important, as if everyone should share their opinion, or their opinion is more important.

Speaking specifically about the sports gaming genre, all of these game are of course always trying to draw new and/or casual players to their game. We'll see, but I think that while not really that enticing to a lot of the OS crowd, the inclusion of this may push the game over the 10 million mark in units sold.

From the looks of it you can just stand outside the walk on arena and not do anything else other than go in there then.
You can also just play the NBA games off the nav and never move from the starting spot in the world if you don't want to.
I play offline MyLeague and MyCareer. I don't know if I'll delve into MyCareer this year. I just like a simple career NBA career mode. I don't want to play on the streets or roam to go get a haircut. I always just keep my hair short and simple. My favorite Career mode in sports games right now is The Show. My decisions feel important, I start out at the bottom and work to the top. I'm not give anything too much, I can choose to shape exactly what kind of player I want attributes wise, etc. I really wish 2k would be more akin to what The Show is like. It used to be that way circa 2k11/2k12. All the stuff they announced today does nothing for me personally. I'm also confused. Do I have to play MyPark? Do I have to play street games? Do I have to roam around and communicate with others? I have no desire to do any of that. I just want to play an NBA career mode.
I understand there is a fanbase for this and I think 2k knocked everything else out of the park this year but this concerns me that I'm not gonna be able to enjoy MyCareer this year at all.
I also want to enjoy My Career and it look like we will not have any NBA Career interactions and given the menu I saw there is no possibility to see the GM and talk with him about the team.... This was possible in 2k14 lol
    Not really happy with that

I have to play online to be a 99 ?
It sounds very interesting, and I'll give it a shot. Though after I watched the trailer, I couldn't help but start singing The Fresh Prince of Bel Air Theme Song.
*Lose A Game* You have now moved to Bel Air!

Are you serious? Did you not see the new archetypes? The new online content? Road to 99? They combined 3 gamemodes for crying out loud. It's a damn online RPG mode for **** sake. WHAT DO YOU EXPECT THEM TO DO? MAKE HALF LIFE 3?

All of this doesnt matter if the game mode has no depth past year one. Or if the ai is still crappy. Or If your player who is on his way to be a legend has no clout on his team. Or if the free agency period is barebones like it was last year...I could go on and on but you see the gist of this post right ?
Its a great face lift. The open world thing is pretty cool but it could become old pretty quick. Now you literally have to pay vc for everything.
The primary and secondary archetypes is cool too.
I'll wait for a blog to see what is exactly fresh and new.

You can just play mycareer games. Your choice. My impression was different avenues to the same goal of the 99 rating.

Good post. I'm a MyLeague guy, but this is clearly something people like and good on 2k for delivering.
I can't stand people that bash things they just don't like personally. Everyone wants different things. Sometimes your stuff gets put in (My MyLeague stuff was good) and sometimes stuff you don't care for gets in (MyCareer).
    Just have fun. Jesus

From what I see theyre killing the "NBA immersion" in MyCareer and the will of a lot of player to just have the sensation to be inside an NBA career.
Theyre killing this for the online community and the park, Basically except the new archetypes its just that you can walk 3 blocks to do things (Shop and barber shop) that you could do before.
Its annoying, just separate the online mode to Mycareer and work on a great MYCAREER MODE
We dont even have ANY INFORMATION about an NBA CAREER. THIS GOD DAMN MODE IS SUPPOSED TO BE MY CAREER

I hope you're right. I understand how people want these features and it doesn't bother me that the features are there. I just hope it doesn't interfere with me playing MyCareer the way I like too. Hopefully we see a blog soon.
I am a Offliine MyCareer, so mostly I will just play League games. But, I do like the freedom and depth this gives. I can see myself doing the 2k Zone, Live Practices, Gatorade Training facility.
The main thing I like is the ability to grind for badges outside of games. I don't plan on playing Park. But the fact that I can grind for badges in Practice mode is great. That way I could really focus on grinding for badges there and just focus on playing games in the league. That is huge for me. In the past, there are games where I would a certain way just for badges. Now I can just play my way and grind for badges in Practice.
The only thing that concerns me is the servers. As a offline guy, I wouldn't want to suffer is servers is lagging bad.

And what about the immersion of our NBA career ?
I mean we just play games without cinematics? without choice to do ? Without relationship in our team and in the league ?
That would be disappointing ? No immersion at all
And I m rooting since long for an influence on our GM on the Free Agency. When you see whats happening with Curry recruiting Durant or Harden recruiting CP3...
I have the feeling they just mixed everything they can to put in the game
Like WTF I care about making a track on a studio on a MYCAREER NBA MODE ????
    Nothing more important than that?

I think there will still be cinematics. As seen in trailer and some vids, there is a sense of a story. Have to wait until Prelude to be certain

I hear you, I don't want to be a killjoy, but at the same time I think it's important that the rest of us be able to voice what I think is a legit concern. Even if it's the sad post in a mostly happy thread.
Don't worry about me spamming the boards with the same non-sense, I've said my piece. But I also just want people to see reality and to not fall hook line and sinker for the marketing hype. Obviously, there's a lot of things I like better. I just don't really see how this Neighborhood stuff is as amazing and "new" as everyone makes it out.
Please tell me, what has this mode actually added that makes for a substantially better experience than last year like everybody is saying?
It's mostly just a face lift. And I'll leave it at that.
Maybe you should wait and actually play the mode first. You might like it. If a game gets you this frustrated then it's probably better to walk away from it.

After watching some videos I have to admit that all the new trainings are nice

-can we improve our overall just by playing mycareer and avoid the park until were comfortable playing it? do we have to play park period to hit 99 overall?
-can we buy VC and be a 80 overall or whatever until we run out of attribute upgrades like we could in nba 2k17?

I'm not that worked up. Only thing that frustrates me is when people keep trying to tell us we should be grateful and as excited as everyone else, when all I'm doing is keeping it real while voicing my concerns. I'm not in here to say good job good effort. I'm truly wondering how my experience will improve, just the same way everybody else thinks theirs has. But apparently, my opinion doesn't matter much unless it falls in line with someone else's.
As I already said I'll see when the game comes out. But yeah, I'm not excited about Faux Locker and 1000 VC barbershops as some of you are.
Also, a lot of this discussion stemmed from zrohman's post on the previous page. All he did was voice his concern, and he got slammed for it like I am by a lot of you. But is anything he said actually wrong?

    I can't believe this got 3 likes.
You know why 2k spent the time to implement this mode? Because of that same reaction that is baffling you.
I won't ever touch this mode but it's an amazing idea and happy for those that will. The other additions they've announced is alone more than most annual games.

It's this reaction now. Until the forums are later littered with complaints about long loading screen and glitches later. This is how the cycle works. I'm not upset that they added something I don't like. What I'm frustrated by, which is my right to be, is the fact they would make everything harder for me, everything more expensive, rather than letting me easily change these things in settings I have to run around to do it. I just don't think people will be happy with this in the long run, I think it's another way for them to make more money. They will start to put everything behind a vc wall. Just my personal opinion. Just like people can be hyped I can be frustrated that they are making the simplest of things like changing my hair a pain in my neck. Running through a neighborhood of casuals dressed as mascots, maybe with little yachity hair, and dancing is super entertaining for a few walks in the park. Everyone will love and laugh the idea, even I will have fun the first few times. But my opinion is this will be a pretty big burden that I have to go load a long menu and run to foot locker to change shoes. Or maybe they will only do that for the "best shoes" that cost 50k vc. Either way it's disappointing. Every right to feel that way.
I have one question. How the Neighborhood work if you don't have a PlayStationPlus or Xbox Live membership. I never had one and don't really plan on it. So how it would work.
All this stuff is crazy. Not my thing but I have to admit that it is pretty impressive. They put so much into this that if they had the resources they could make this a whole other game. "2K Playground"

[From what I seen/heard. You can become 99 without having to play all modes. So I believe yes, you can get to 99 by just doing one aspect
-can we buy VC and be a 80 overall or whatever until we run out of attribute upgrades like we could in nba 2k17?
I read somewhere you can buy VC to get a 85, then after 85 you have to grind until 99

Please tell me that there are more parks available. I don't know how this is going to work.....from the looks of it there are no more affiliations. That means EVERYONE will be in that one area just waiting to play. That's a nightmare for someone like me that just want to play a quick game.

my guess would be the neighborhood will be deserted and anything that connects you to play with other players like playground pro-am, king of the court, you can't play it and everything else like footlocker & training facility is
    available offline

You can upgrade in proam, park or mycareer but you don't have to play all to reach 99. You can play and never play park, or never play proam or even mycareer

Well i hope 2k upgraded their servers lol. Could be a disaster otherwise.
It seems very cool but i dunno if i'm down with the premise personally. Is 2k trying to be GTA now? I use the NBA overall to escape life's trials and tribulations. I'm not looking to do the "live a 2nd life as a baller" through basketball. That's a whole other dimension of gaming, where there needs to be waaay more dimensions than just playing basketball, changing your appearance and walking down the street. Seems limited for that sorta thing. Basketball is a vehicle, not an end-point. But hey, i'm sure others will get into it (if the servers hold up)

This will be the new standard for MyCareer now and the possibilities of what that could bring down the line are amazing to think about and really exciting. But this year I think it will just be a drawn out way of doing the things you do in the main menu easier.
Like I say though, the possibilities of what this will open up down the line are mind boggling ie. driving to games, plane journeys etc. It's literally becoming Chris Smooves fantasy MyCareer from 2k11-2k13

You have to keep in mind this is just the beginning. They will learn from trial and error. Your concerns can be voiced in wishlists for future games. This new facelift almost needed to be done. Gone are the boring menus that you suggest should remain the same as it has always been. 2k is trying to set themselves apart from the competition. Is there another sports game doing this right now?
We are very blessed to have sports gaming devs that push the envelope like the nba 2K devs (just imagine sports gaming without them!) They aren't afraid to take chances and change things up in fear that they might inconvenience their player base. Thank you 2K, if only you could still make NFL games.

The concepts presented in "Run the Neighborhood" are some very neat ideas that try to allow 2K to follow in the footsteps of other genres, transferring online VR and MMO mechanics into sport sims.
The thing is, at least for me, I have been playing 2K "seriously" since 2K10 for the actual sim sport mechanics.
2k10 MyCareer allowed me to immerse myself in an NBA career, from being drafted to Summer-league balling to being demoted to the D-League San Antonio team.
I was able to craft a player and then build him up, meeting milestones all along the way. Customization was part of the immersion; it was handled in a way that kept me involved in the sport without needing to grind or work at something that was graphical and vanity based only.
Fast forward to the "next generation" MyCareer and almost yearly, the 2K team has been abandoning that original vision and morphing a new e-sport vision into its place. Instead of keeping the two genres separated they keep insisting on trying to blend them together.
Despite what posters here have said about being able to keep MyCareer truly "mine" and not being forced into "sharing" my experience as if I were in a MMO/virtual world ala GTA, the Simms or 2nd Life - I just honestly can't tell at this point.
I am a gamer that enjoys her privacy, not having to deal with others, good and bad out there. I don't want to open 2k18 and find out because the 2k servers are down, the 2 hours I have to play this week are hosed.
I don't need to compare my virtual Jordans with some guy in Calgary Canada. I don't want to join an epeen contest on a virtual black-top court and then deal with everything from purposeful disconnects to Chinese cheat engines.
I don't want to be an actor in a Spike Lee movie or take part in 2k's version of Space Jam. I really loathe being told by a route soundbite that the other team's superstar (who in this reality is injured and playing like crud) is destroying my team with 2 points scored and 6 minutes played.
I'm happy for everyone who is excited by today's reveal. I had the same excitement when ScottyOG's defense blog and DaCzar's offense blogs came out - its a great feeling to have. I was going to pre-order this year once more making it 8 or 9 years in a row I did.
But I'll be honest with you, after today's reveal, I'm back to waiting until the big patches are done; there were a hella lots more questions raised today then were answered and for every good thing that DaCzar said and Scott explained, there are equally disturbing concerns raised by this reveal.
I prefer changing gear and other stuff by just pausing and going to the menu. Walking to get shoes and clothes is going to get old fast.
If they were going semi open world then why on God's green earth would they omit a RUN button. Which is staple for every rpg games.

    Phenomenal post.
I was saying to a buddy last night that I wish they were two separate modes. Last year I barely played online. I am a myleague player first but I love the mycareer part offline.
    I, like you, loved 2k10.
I guess for it to really be the way I want it, I wish it was offline and online. Two separate modes, disconnected from one another.
I'm not into the e league thing because they're never going to be able to make it true basketball. There's always going to be people who exploit the engine and ruin the game.
I do give 2k props for adding this as people are excited but I agree with you fully about the experience. Im out of school and have a family now. If my 30 minutes per night to play is ruined bexause of the servers I'm going to be upset.

I wouldn't be surprised if we got an actual blog/write up explaining MyCareer changes today. This is their most popular mode.

Im with you on that, not sure why ppl are in such a fret.
A detailed blog should def be dropping prior to the Prelude, where all these complaints should be answered :y7:

Speaking specifically about the sports gaming genre, all of these game are of course always trying to draw new and/or casual players to their game. We'll see, but I think that while not really that enticing to a lot of the OS crowd, the inclusion of this may push the game over the 10 million mark in units sold.

Casuals = cash why do you think the rest of the industry jumped on that story mode fam ? Cause they see we outsold madden.
But I do think more than any other company in our position we still cater to all of our customer base. Even those whose impact on the bottom line is minimal.

I prefer changing gear and other stuff by just pausing and going to the menu. Walking to get shoes and clothes is going to get old fast.
If they were going semi open world then why on God's green earth would they omit a RUN button. Which is staple for every rpg games.

i just like to see folks reaction to things (good or bad). may not even be for a game or mode i play.
i look at OS as like a sports gamers barbershop. didnt think any of this was to be taken too seriously? dont we all use videogames as an escape to relax?
back in the day on OS we could disagree and it wouldnt turn nasty. not saying your doing this Moe (at all ✌) because ive been reading your comments for years.

Nope...there are some walking speed that are a tiny bit faster BUT you have to level up to unlock them. Even when you do unlock them they're not that fast lol
I'm hoping leveling up will be a bit quicker this time around...

That's the craziest thing imo. We've seen other sports franchises maybe add a story mode or some feature and tweak a couple of other things.
2k, they add this revolutionary mode, add authentic cap details, classic teams, implement crazy AI logic, etc.

In this era, we're in of online gaming, card games, and lawsuits one of my biggest complaints about all sports games is lack of innovation. Now, 2K finally done some totally innovative, yet people still complain. :nocomprende:
But, like Da_Cazr said you can't please everybody.
Personally, I'm a 100% MyLeague guy. However, I can see myself playing this while waiting for some players to be added, sliders to get worked out, draft classes, etc. Even as a hardcore MyLeague guy I'm intrigued by this mode and am excited to see what it's all about.
I've been a massive critic of 2k through the 17 cycle, but I have to hold my hands up to what they've done with the neighbourhood. The ability of the servers have me on edge, as does the monetising every tiny detail like haircuts, but I can't argue with how this looks.

Damn straight! IF there's one thing 2k does is try very hard to get everything right and expand each and every year. What other sports game / company can say they've added classics to begin with and then to add on to almost a 100 teams with hundreds of players?! Who can say they've done so many hours of scanning players, jerseys, arenas and everything to get that right?
We can even go beyond what's normal in a sports game or any game and this EXPAND, create our own players, teams, courts, jerseys and share them across the board. This open world might not be everyone's thing, but at least 2k is trying to be innovative and improve. There's plenty of games who just repeat the same formula, while 2k always changes and tweaks things to the point where even after 1 year the game can be changed in ways that other games do not even do in 2-3 years.
Also, they listen to the fans and interact with them. For a fan of the Mortal Kombat franchise for example, I can tell you that they do not interact with them and hardly listen to them. All in all, 2k is setting the bar pretty much for basketball, sports and even games in general I believe. It's incredible what they do, even with some misses here and there. They could easily do what they like, occasionally check what fans want and give them a bone. Most companies who are smart listen and try to take something, but 2k is going above and beyond to please all different kinds of fans. It's one thing if people complain about a game when it clearly caters to one specific group, but 2k is trying to cater to ALL. That is nothing short of praiseworthy!

I agree with you. My only quip is the popular complaint with sentiments I also share about poor servers. 2K basketball has had server issues for over a decade at least. I cannot begin to imagine the difficulties of making a game that runs on a stable server for its online play, but one would expect some major headway after so much time has passed with similar complaints being vociferated year after year.

Even though limited numbers play certain modes more than others, hardcore basketball guys aren't the only ones who benefit from the depth and quality of the authentic NBA basketball experience

Maybe they should just keep everything offline. Hell, maybe they should make their basketball game strictly offline, and better yet, they should make 2K19 strictly 1 player. Not even couch co-op.
AND DEAR JESUS THE GAME ISN'T OUT YET THEY WILL HAVE A BLOG ABOUT MYCAREER LIKE THEY DO EVERY YEAR. THEY DID NOT OMIT MYCAREER. THE PRELUDE, THE DAMN DEMO THAT WE'RE GETTING IN A WEEK, HAS ALWAYS BEEN A MYCAREER DEMO. YOU WILL GET YOUR MYCAREER. YOU DON'T HAVE TO PLAY ONLINE TO PLAY YOUR MYCAREER.
On another note... as a STRICTLY offline guy myself, I'm really excited to jump online this year with everyone else. Looks like it could be a lot of fun.
And also, give everyone a 99 right off the bat in every attribute and every HOF badge. Access to every shoe, outfit, all of it. Because apparently earning something means nothing anymore.

People also have a right to voice their displeasure. The moment somebody did you guys all pounced on him and said "They made me happy, stop complaining so much"
I've already voiced that they did some things well. But some things are eyebrow raising. Charging VC for a haircut? No MLO improvements?
We the customer have the right to voice our displeasure with things. I give props to those who make a living working on the game. But will things get better if we're all yes men? Improvement comes from people pointing out what needs to be better. If all we are supposed to do is be grateful and happy then where do things go from there?

You can voice your displeasure but it needs to be voiced in a constructive way. Improvement absolutely comes from pointing out "what needs to be better" but crapping all over the inclusion of something new doesn't make it better nor does it suggest how it could be better.

I feel you man. Instead of upgrading the game engine, which has been pretty much the same for the last 4 years, they give us some bull**** free roam mode that provides no real value. I hope Live sells well. Even though the gameplay is still inferior to 2K, it’s at least different and refreshing.
I CANT BELIEVE PEOPLE ARE CLAIMING THIS WILL BE OPEN WORLD.
This is more like a hamster locked in a box wiith fake houses and objects. 2k background graphics are about as terrible as they can be. I still cringe at those paper cars floating through the streets in 2k16 (or was it 15?)
Count me in with those that are not easily fooled by heavily edited trailer. Let's see how much lag all this will bring. Lets see if half of this stuff would even work the first 2 months. Lets see the loading times. Lets see if courts will be glitched again for the 4th year in a row.

It's not serious. This is a vidoegame, dude. I just state what I see and what I perceive to be off putting agenda posting from Live guys, and now what looks to be disgruntled MLO folks still salty about no improvements there. Folks being critical or nitpicky is the nature of the beast. I understand and get that. We all have elements of the game we obsess over more than others. It's the salt that honestly bothers me.

Its a cardboard block with only 2 stores that you can enter. Basically a box for you to run in. If this was open world type in any way then I would be able to climb over a fence or knock over stuff.
But none of this stuff matters for me. All I care about is load times, lag and working courts.

Lol it is a basketball game, I wouldn't expect to climb fences and knock over stuff.
And 2 stores sure, but also a training facility you can enter as well as apparently a recording studio of some kind (not sure what that will be/do), but also an arcade you can enter. More than enough for a basketball game.
Something I feel that is being overlooked is the number of courts. It seems like they consolidated the three parks into one "neighborhood". So instead of there being three parks with about eight courts each there's one neighborhood with about eight or nine courts. If this is true getting a game in is going to be a pain .

I don't think it's supposed to be an actual open world. It is all related to basketball, and it's all some nice setting to make it look nice when you move from one court to another, and give you some options for upgrades. It's not an actual living-breathing city with lots buildings, stores and activities. Think of it as a menu, only instead of moving your cursor from one activity/option to another, you move your character around. And remember, it's just one mode, it's not the entire game.
Open world games are being developed usually for 3-6 years at a time. This is a 1-year cycle that's all about basketball.
I don't think anyone who likes open-world games would consider buying it to explore the world, just like anyone who's only about basketball wouldn't buy GTA only to play basketball there (if there is an option for it).

Personally I haven't played a 2K game throughout the whole year for a while, hopefully this is the year.
And yeah, this stuff for me is unnecessary crap, at least until they get decent online servers. You can disagree all you want lol.

    Lol "crap", he calls it.

It is if it's barely playable and you don't even meet players online. How would you call all the mypark for 2K17 on pc? And the year before I had it on Xbox One, always got connection errors.
It's one layer of the game with all the VC stuff in it that I do not care for, at least build a solid online base before hand. Maybe this is the game that changes that and I'm 100% wrong. But every year is the same song so excuse me for being a pessimist.
I know some people love this stuff so it's all good though. Not everyone likes the same things.

Well this trailer and online in this franchise is akin to Rockstar adding tons of online stuff in GTA 5 that I'll never get to play with cause the online foundation of the game is rotten : it takes forever to get a game going, the load times are horrid, people drop out, you're being sent back to another lobby and has to load the city again...could be such a fun experience if they got the online part right.
It would be nice to have multiple neighborhoods tho. Maybe in the future they could expand to state neighborhoods or something along the lines.

This is probably the gimmicky-est thing that 2k has ever implemented. But I completely understand why they did it, and i don't blame anyone for being excited over this. The aesthetic of everything, is very nice. I just think the whole "open world" aspect is going to wear off fast for a lot of people. Nothing beats simplicity, at the end of the day.
Would've been cool if it actually resembled some blocks in NYC and you could walk from Rucker Park to some other courts, a bit spread out but that's really more GTA's thing ;)
