This Rare PS4 Star Wars Game Is Now a Hot Commodity Thanks to PS5 Jailbreakers

An old PS4 collector item has suddenly increased in demand. The game in question is Star Wars: Racer Revenge, but more specifically, the Limited Run physical re-release copy. For those unfamiliar, Limited Run often repackages old games into physical copies to be sold as collector items for fans of the game.

The sudden demand for this game isn’t because of nostalgia but jailbreaking. The copy has become a hot commodity among the jailbreaking community as it allows you to jailbreak the PS5. So, jailbreakers are scrambling to get their hands on these copies.

The problem is that this Limited Run release, as the name suggests, was limited to only a couple of thousand copies, and jailbreaking requires that specific copy because it still contains a bug that jailbreakers need to exploit to break into the PS5 system.

Why Racer Revenge Is Suddenly Worth So Much

Here is why this game is in demand. Hackers working on PlayStation 5 jailbreak techniques have discovered a bug in the Hall of Fame menu of a specific PS4 disc, which can be exploited to inject code into the system.

The glitch is linked to how the game runs through the PS5’s built-in PS2 emulator, and exploiting it allows execution of arbitrary code on consoles running firmware up to version 12.00, a rare and valuable capability for the modding scene.

This doesn’t mean a full, polished jailbreak is out, but the discovery itself has thrown the market into chaos. The listings of this game on platforms like eBay have jumped drastically, with some even asking for 200-300$ for a copy that was originally less than $100.

Of course, this all exists in a legal gray zone. Jailbreaking a PS5 can violate Sony’s terms of service and can even result in voided warranties and account bans. However, for jailbreakers and even collectors, the risk hasn’t stopped them from bidding.

What began as a quirky collector’s item of a racing game has suddenly become the unlikely star of the PS5 modding world. Whether you’re chasing hardware freedom or just watching prices climb, this Star Wars racer is steering itself into gaming history again.
