Take-Two Purchasing Codemasters For a Cool $956 Million

Briefly mentioned over the weekend, it appears Take-Two will officially acquire Codemasters, the publisher behind the F1, DIRT and GRID series for $956 million. The deal is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2021, according to Games Industry.

“Take-Two said it “believes that the combination of Take-Two and Codemasters would bring together two world-class interactive entertainment portfolios, with a highly complementary fit between 2K and Codemasters in the racing genre.” Take-Two believes that it can bring benefits to Codemasters performance by leveraging Take-Two global distribution and 2K’s core operating expertise in publishing, including, live operations, analytics, product development, and brand and performance marketing.”

There goes the F1 games then

    You are joking?
The only officially licensed game on the market...why would they drop that?

I think he meant turning the game into trash. Hopefully Dirt and F1 don't turn into crap games. Take two bought The Golf Club series and did not do much with that game.
Reasonable minds obviously can differ, but I enjoyed what they did with PGA Tour. It got me much more interested in golf and I have really liked playing it. I am an "above-casual" racer (I own wheels for PS and Xbox and own more racing games than other genres, but I honestly am not anywhere near very good.) I really liked the strides w/F1 2020 and hope TT doesn't interfere. TT does have a history--and pretty much a stated business plan--to gouge folks via microtransactions, and that is a big, big concern. And I may be the only one, but this makes me even more curious about the prospects for Project Cars 4, now that SMS is in the Codies stable. I have been holding out hope that SMS/Codies would admit the travesty (IMHO) of PC3 and recommit to improving and innovating the foundation that was being laid in PC2. I loved so much about that game, and I can't get over the disappointment of what they did to it.
