  1. Picked up the game last night. It's definitely WAY better than any version of RBI they have released to date. Feature heavy and a lot of settings to mess around with including sliders. Difficulty already seems dialed down. I didn't get blown out in the first inning like in previous years. I'm probably terrible at it regardless. Day to night transitions look great. The stadiums and overall feel of each park are well done. I shockingly like the commentary. Simple and not overdone but adds a welcome change to the series. It definitely has the flavor of the 2k baseball games. If you play the game for what it is then you will enjoy it.
The biggest downside? They still have the suck-up animations when fielding a ball. So many times when fielding a ball it clearly looked well past me but somehow lands in my glove. Hitting is the same way. A ball that looks like you went opposite field gets pulled and vice versa. It's also supposed to be Series X | S optimized. The lie detector determined that was a lie. Joking. But seriously, the game is VERY choppy depending on the camera view. Especially in Home Run Derby. Yikes. Loading times are surprisingly longer than I expected on the Series X. No HDR or AutoHDR. I'd really like to know what's supposed to be optimized here? Not expecting much but still. All in all, if you can get past the oddities that come along with the series, it's still fun for $30 bucks. I'm all for supporting more baseball games!

How are the new batting and pitching options?

With Modern hitting, swings are separated by traditional power, normal and contact buttons, although there's no way to visually figure out the swing location (players have a consistent level swing regardless of pitch location) but they do have the analog stick dictate the influence of the hit.
Modern Pitching has changed a bit, so instead of a confidence meter after selecting the pitch and performing it, you are seeing this instead:

Inner circle gives you a location, Outer circle affects confidence. Holding the pitch button expands the inner circle and you release the button when the inner circle meets the outer one for maximum confidence.
Keep the questions coming, would love to answer them
The rosters in this are abysmal. You would think that a game produced by MLB would have more accurate rosters or at least have an update on their rosters on release day.

I think they froze the rosters during the winter meetings. Lemahieu isn't on the Yankees roster yet, Arenado is still on the Rockies, etc.
Bought this on my Android phone. I don't throw the "unplayable" moniker around willy nilly but this legitimately is.
The lag is so bad that I have to swing while the pitcher starts his wind up and I'm still late often.
I have gotten this game every year and always advocate for the mobile version as its a decent mobile game for a respectable price but this is a mess as of now.

This is something that you would think the team working on this at MLBAM should push to improve every single year, since the sport itself relies heavily on timing, so animations need to be as tight knit as possible.
After years of this it feels like this is just an artistic choice at this point

Is the batting still set up to swing on button release rather than button push like last year?

you can do batting like last year, the year before that or a new way introduced this year.
Anyone try out Franchise Mode yet? I might pick it up on Switch and Franchise Mode would be the main reason. Is it fun or just too shallow and janky in the gameplay department to enjoy?
So just wanted to give a couple of quick impressions after two games.
First off, as someone said, it's better than any RBI game so far. Like a pretty good step up.
    The Good:
    1) I like the pitching interface. Intuitive but not overly complicated.
    2) I also like the hitting interface. Specifically the directional hitting, or whatever they call it. I wasn't hitting anything on the default setting. With directional you are able to make better contact I think as a user skill.
    3) I love how the ball hooks and slices this year. Very realistic, but maybe a tad overdone.
4)Fielding has improved, but something about it needs fixed immediately. That will be in the negatives.
Overall, it's a good game. Plays a solid game of baseball. And if they support it all year with patches and roster updates, I think it can be a fun, albeit arcady alternative to The Show if you need a break from the realism standpoint.
    The Negatives:
    1) The fielding. While not the act of fielding itself, because that is pretty good, it's the animations, or lack thereof. In 2021 I feel like it's inexcusable to have so much lack of animations. Half the time the ball just doesn't even go into the glove, and it's a super fast cut to throwing and there literally is no catch animation. Also too many running throws. Players only seem to get set to throw about half the time if that. If this was cleaned up and we had more animations, specifically fielding, this game would jump up at least a whole point if I were scoring it.
    2) Too many line drives. Small sample size, but seemed about half the balls hit are line drives. You do see some balls floated over the infield or shots down the lines, which look really good. I actually robbed a HR on the second hitter of the first game I played. It was sweet and actually looked good. So that's a positive hidden in the negatives. Sorry about that.
    3) My first game went to extra innings, and I hit a walk off double to win in the 12th, but the problem was, Lucas Giolito started the game, and he pitched till the 12th. That's a big problem. Second game, the same thing happened with Buehler. It was only a 9 inning game, but he had given up 6 runs. So this needs to be patched it seems.
    4) Apparently there is no replay system, unless I am missing it. Also no swing feedback or where the ball ended up after the pitch. Not huge deals, but something that should be in the game imo.
I have more that I can write, but I'll leave it there for now. The big question is, is it worth $30? I can say yes it is. It's fun, I didn't wanna stop playing. When you hit a bomb it's pretty awesome. I don't know if that can patch in animations. I guess it would come down to if they already have them. Which If they did they should be in the game, so I doubt it. To me, that's the biggest thing holding this game back from being really good. I just don't get it. I can't let them off the hook for it. But if you can look passed that, and it's kinda hard to do, but I feel like it's one of those things where you either decide to yourself that you can deal with it or not. And that might determine if people play it or not.
I had high hopes for it, but this game still has more teleporting balls than an all-male away team on Star Trek. Fielding is abysmal - you can't tell if you should advance runners or not because the fielders don't actually catch the ball. Half the time they're six or seven feet away from where the ball is coming down and it's still ruled an out.
    Now...
Ive only played the ios version on a uphone...
    BUT
    the game is great
smooth almost prob 60fps and nice looking
    three things bother me
1)Outfielder and infeilder throws sometimes they just chuck the ball in very akward angles it looks horrible
    2) really wish there were overcast skies too
    and
    3) more cut scenes after plays so that it looks more like a broadcast
have yet to play it on the ps5
BUT from all the videos ive seen
it seems to play bad on the switch and reg xbox and play great on ios and xbox series x
I haven't been following the RBI series, but is it worth getting on Switch to help introduce my 5 year old son into baseball video gaming?
He's into baseball just like his old man, but looking for something that has simplistic controls that can help him play and enjoy the game.
    Thank you in advance.

I think the move would be to get Super Mega baseball 3. RBI tends have a more difficult learning curve imo.

Agree 100%. SMB3 has an ego system that is great for those new to the game. Plus it has a fun factor that a kid would enjoy.

Yes but he has a Nintendo Switch and not a PS4.
So looking for a game on the Switch for him.

    Which system?
I can't even throw to the bases.
Why do they release this game every year with bugs?
These bugs are so bad you can't even play the game.
I can't hit with the insane lag and I can't throw to the bases
I cannot find this on android app store...just not there
what version of playstore does any android player of this game have?
    i'm on 24.4.23-21 0 PR 361682659
Got it for ps4 playing on ps5
Looks to me like its def 60fps and the textures look to be as good as xbox series x i can tell by the cfans in the stands while pitching there are better quality than on switch or mobile ios.
just wish the animations were more there etc
Can someone tell me on the ps4 version how the rosters are? Someone mentioned they are way outdated? Is that true. Like do the Mets have Lindor?
I want to get it to hold me over until the show but rosters are important for me.

Anyone that’s downloaded for iOS, does it support controller/game pad input?

It doesn't, sigh. I don't understand why these games don't support controllers. I get it, it's a mobile game, but with being able to use controllers no reason they don't get supported.
Reading through people’s comments, just a couple of quick thoughts on the playability of this game on Switch and mobile platforms. I purchased it on iOS, android and the Switch, and they all play very well - with iOS and android graphics slightly cleaner than the Switch.
For those having issues with their android version, if you are using a relatively newer phone/tablet with a decent processor, you will have zero issues. On the Tab S6 lite, it is a lag-fest and not worth playing at all. Using the S20 FE, it is flawless on the phone itself and while connected via hdmi to a monitor/tv. The Switch version runs smoothly but I’m guessing tops out at 30fps.

Can someone have a look at Yu Darvish?
    His extremely unrealistic curveball ....
I have a nintendo switch version

I saw this on a YouTube video a couple of days ago. I thought maybe the game was broken, but apparently it's only tied in with Yu?

It's a roster glitch that should be fixed in the next update.
Edit his curveball pitch quality from 49 or whatever it is set to in the latest roster to 50, then save the changes. I don't think you can save your changes back to the default roster, but you can save those changes to a new roster and that should reset the movement of his curveball to a more natural drop.

But if I edit Darvish's curveball ratings
It stuffs up all of his other pitches velocity (extremely slow...)
Eg he now throws 30mph slider...
    Hope this is fixed soon...
I haven't seen video of the pitch in the game yet, but it should be noted that Darvish does throw an unusual curveball (more of an eephus) that sometimes drops sub-70 mph.
So if pitch speeds in the game are reduced even further than real life speeds, he'd probably throw a pitch that looks like a balloon.

Edit: Oh....that clip above....yeaaaaah, i'm gonna say he probably can't do that IRL. But his weird IRL curveball (and the ratings that would be associated with it in the game) might indirectly be the cause of that bug.

My mate just told me it has NOT been fixed :(

It's not. I was using the latest roster when replicating the glitch.
Speaking of, there's a lot going on that I hope gets addressed in the first patch, along with the strange animations, and the trigger button swaps:
    - I've had an issue where doing an in-game tutorial causes the game to switch me over to the opposing team rather than the team I initially controlled before the tutorial. I also noticed that the game will still utilize an online gamertag on the PC version (which I own). Plot twist: The PC version doesn't have online gameplay.
    - I've also had the game's ambient crowd audio completely not work, causing the game to be played with just the sound effects and the commentary, almost like how games were played in the beginning of the pandemic last season before they decided to include artificial crowd noise.
Not sure what the processor is on the Moto Edge, but the S20 FE has a snapdragon 865 and it plays perfectly. There should be some minimum specs for playability listed in the play store, although there is a fairly easy refund process if it’s plays poorly.
I'm at a point where, first product with a robust off-line roster editor wins.
The Show is great, best baseball game I have ever played. But the baseball experience I want just isn't out there. (Late 80s-2000s)
A supplemental roster editor is the only way I am going to get it.
Don't care if I get it from SDS, Take 2, Konami, Nintentdo, Activision, Commodore 64........

As someone mentioned in the previous post, Super Mega Baseball 3 has a great editor. And if you like the management side and running a franchise, OOTP is second to none.
Picked up the Switch version again (have 18-20 on Switch as well) and as usual, there's things I like and dislike about the game.
I appreciate that they didn't force us to use last year's hitting method (hold button and release to swing) and like the separate buttons for normal, power and contact swings which are all timing-based.
I also like the tweaks to the pitching system, which I truly enjoyed in 20.
It's not great, but having some type of commentary does help add to the game's atmosphere and presentation.
Fielding, though, remains the biggest and most glaring negative. It's hard to ignore the animations that are there, and more importantly, the ones that are sorely missing.
Overall, it's a fun game and perfect fit on the Switch.
    Oriole of questions.
    1. Are there like a minor league roster? Don’t care if playable but like fictional young guys.
    2. How long is a franchise? 20 years? Do players retire, get replaced with rookies, etc?
    3. Can you search league wide by attributes and age, things like that? Like can I search through teams reserve/minor rosters for let’s say, a 20 year old unknown with high potential or ratings?
Easily the hardest baseball game I have ever played in terms of hitting. I might get 2 or 3 hits a game if I'm lucky. Of course the cpu can hit at will. Don't waste your money on this. Animations are abysmal as well.

That's funny considering the CPU couldn't hit at all in last year's version
Decided to play against the Padres and Darvish so I could see this curveball glitch with my own eyes. Yeah, that's a rough one and makes playing against him unplayable, tbh. Kind of funny when you first see it.
    This is the Switch version.
It's been tough trying to get through a game this year, the fielding animations are very rough and have regressed from 19, which while far from great, were at least smooth for the most part.

I never played 19 or 20. I just went back and watched the fielding for 19. Wow. What happened here in 21? The fielding in 19 was far better. I didn't see 1 ball get sucked up to a fielder that's not even close to the ball. Heck I even saw a ball go right under the glove and get into the outfield. Hope this gets fixed via a patch in 21.
I played a game last night for the first time in a couple of weeks, and while still rough in spots, there does appear to have been some smoothing out of the fielding animations with the recent content and roster updates.
