This game looks more amazing by the second...multiple clips looked almost photo realistic to the game.

    Agreed.
there are some pc edits coming to the grass for pes 2018 that mimic it but its not THAT close
you're right phto realsitic for sure had to do a double take at times
I'll say this though the game DOES have a bbit of a unrealistic tint to it kind of like madden 19 BUT its fixable by the cotrast and brightness slider present in the game hopefully
I'll say this though pes 2018 ona windows 7 machine cant use reshade and thats a boon
has to eb a windows 10 machine to be able to use resahde
As others have stated, this game looks great! I think I'm going to get both soccer games this year for the first time ever. Now that a handful more leagues have been included, I'm interested even more.
I'm a FIFA guy, but I'm giving this a chance. Can't wait to play the demo in a week and a half or so.

We'll be able to see pretty quickly if they've improved the gameplay balance much, or if the back 4 will be retreating back for no reason and it'll be the same wide open space.

If they improve that them I'm in. I really didn't have problems with fouls, now penalties is another story.

I feel like if you really love the sport and footie games then you can love and get something out of both games.. I bought both games the last couple years. This year I will start with just PES but I will probably end up getting FIFA sooner or later like usual. even when I say I'm going to just get one I end up getting both.. ha
you will be happy I think doing that. I think it's nice to be able to go back in forth between the two actually at times. for me though it's justified because I don't play hardly any other video games. I just mainly play footie games and maybe sometimes NHL in the past.

I get that a ton of online players play one touch passes over and over on 3 bar pass assistance, but I wish the CPU would dribble more. Connecting 5-6 one touch passes in a row starting from midfield is fake and boring.

Yeah there are a few times when Diahkate (sp) gets the ball with his back-to-goal and no one within a few yards. I would like to see him turn and drive at defenders. Basically, take the space when it's given. It's OK if that's say Giroud, but if I see Messi, Neymar, Hazard, etc... than it's a problem.
I don't mind the one-touch passing when it's done right, basically out of necessity because someone is closing you down but when it's done for no reason in the midfield it looks pretty bad.
I though that video looked pretty good overall. I can see some of the changes from PES 2018.

Yeah that video you linked is pretty solid, PES is progressing slowly in certain areas but its getting there. They are still ahead of Fifa to me in animations and player models, there are moments in that clip where it looks like a real live game but presentation needs a serious overhaul. I think they just don't have the resources to get it done in a year.
Played two 5 min (time limit is locked) matches of Monaco vs Shalke Top Player and I will definitely say that it has improved since last year. The animations look great, I have seen heavy touches and even players miss judging passes for them to deflect off their foot. The ball physic are in the league of its own but passing feels..... interesting. I feel like the through/lead pass and even 1 touch passes feel too assisted and accurate but regular passes and crosses feel like they are balanced correctly. Not sure if I am making sense but once you play it you will understand.
Nevertheless, it may not matter too much because in the two matches both me and the CPU struggled to complete more than 80% of our passes. I noticed that FINALLY passes can go astray when under pressure and in my two matches I have already witness 4 fouls from the CPU which is great considering the length of the matches. Can't really comment too much on shooting as I didn't get many opportunities but headers do seem a lot less accurate. I only have a small sample size of impressions but so far I am happy that they have seemed to improved the AI a lot this year especially on the defensive side.
Game looks great. Especially in 4k. Night games actually look phenomenal.
Game feels great too. Slower but more responsive. The subtle movements are much better.
Player switching seems to finally be fixed!
Overall just a great game. I usually just play head to head and edit heavy on PS4. I’m loving it.

Just 1 game on Professional; cpu passing didn't seem as laser guided precise as last year, cpu defense seemed to give less space, and 4 fouls (3 on cpu 1 on me).
Demo is great. Graphics, response time, fluidity, atmosphere.
Anyone who hasn’t tried pes but still plays Fifa, please give this game a chance. Last year was first year in 10 years I didn’t buy fifa and I couldn’t be happier. This pes looks so good. If you have a PS4, this is the soccer game to get.

Played about 20 games - with different teams and different light situations
    PROS
    - Player models, textures, sizes, etc look very good. You can tell immediately who is who.
    - Stadium light, shadows, grass look very good
    - The areal battles look phenomenal. Really stark improvement here
    - Passes do not complete as often as 18 (both human and CPU)
    - Shooting feels spot on - both in terms of power and accuracy. It feels really rewarding to bang one in from distance (or even when you miss - it just feels right and exciting)
    - Lots of battles and scraps in midfield
    - Not sure if it was just me, but I saw many more fouls called on the CPU
    - New dynamic subs is a good touch
    - The spin of the ball looks amazing when performing high passes
    CONS
    - Once again the CPU will always magically find a man when booting / clearing the ball
    - Playing defence is once again frustrating. The game does not reward good positioning as the CPU will always find a pin point pass (even on Pro level) even if you are covering the passing lane
    - Putting pressure on the CPU counts for nothing - they will always find a pass
    - Way too many offside calls
    - The midfield is once again very empty. Players split in two groups and leave huge spaces in midfield
    - Running feels awkward (too slow and at the same speed, with the same animation). You don't get the sense of urgency, explosiveness and edge when you are on the break.
    - Shielding / protecting the ball is badly missed as a feature. Konami really should learn from FIFA as they have done a great job there
    - Powering up a pass is often too slow.
    - Once again players stumble for too long when dispossessed and take forever to recover
Wow what a game! Very very impressed. Player movements, shooting and passing is amazing. This is a day one purchase for me. Imagine if they had all the licenses that EA has...

Back 4 still tracks back for no good reason? Well damn. Guess that's just on purpose at this point, to keep the game end to end. Disappointing though.
Other than the baffling five minute halves this game seems amazing at first. Recommend trying manual passing. I actually didn't like PES 18 much but this seems amazing. EA better step their game up.

No clue why online matches are 10 and against CPU its 5.

How many GB of space does the PC demo take up guys?

    3 GB.
The game is a step forward, no doubt, but still need to correct some flaws from 2018, like running with the ball or the pass receiver with manual passing.
Much like Madden 19, the PES 2019 demo feels like PES 2018.5. That's not a bad thing, as PES 2018 is a fine game.
But combine the lack of tangible improvements and the lousy license, and I doubt I'll touch PES 2019 unless it's added to GamePass or gets a deep discount.
I like FIFA, too, and my son plays it more than any other game. So it looks like FIFA 19 will be my release day footy game of choice this year.

I like the gameplay more than you do but I feel the same way about the licenses. Option files are good but not the same as the presentation that Fifa offers. With that being said I will still purchase.

The back line seems better than last year but not by much. It's really difficult to tell with the matches being so short. I like it overall but this I am going to be the first in a while that pass on getting it at release and wait to see what the final verdict is going to be. I have decided to do this with all sports games this year and going forward, been burned too much haha.
the AI in the demo is horrendous... clear path to the goal (after goalkeeper mistake on kick) and AI decides to pass the ball to another player behind him (midfielder). really?? AI passes are way off. Hope they can tweak the AI before the game ships at the end of this month.
    Played on Professional difficulty btw.
I don't quite understand what could be wrong, my PC can play even the highest quality on pretty much any of the latest games and the PES demo stutters like crazy. Even on Medium. Have they made it only loadable on super high end machines?
Game looks absolutely stunning in 4K on the PS4 Pro, almost makes 2018 look last-gen.
Everything feels slower and weightier; passing and shooting more deliberate.
Great seeing defenders actually fight to get the ball out of the box, as well as the occassional blown pass.
Konami "borrowed" the Quick Subs concept and made it that much better.
I'm pre-ordering, the CL license can go hang. :y220a:
Quick shallow impressions on the XB1 S:
Graphic, graphics, graphics...so much improvement over last year. Last year looked just as good on my PS3 as it did on XB1 S. I don't have a 4K tv so maybe that mattered, but I doubt it.
This year was a big jump graphically, actually looks current gen and i feel like now I can start to really appreciate the little things AND nitpick within the appropriate context. '
I must really need to either get a PRO or an X because the graphics jump, again, really significant on the XB1 S...can't imagine how it looks on the premier systems.
Other than that, as a extremely casual soccer fan/gamer, this game feels great, especially at the third-tier difficulty, which I think is Regular.
I see AI doing a few weird things, like not attacking the ball when I'm running straight into the box (lol), but also I got like 2 or 3 fouls in a 5 minute match, which is encouraging.
I feel like I played a different build than you guys. The players have no weight to them at all. Everyone is so floaty and jerky. The animations are also pretty terrible. I really didn't like how it felt or played.
Graphically the game looks great. Lighting has taken a substantial leap forward, and the grass no longer looks like a green carpet. The pace of gameplay feels good and realistic as always, and the ball physics are fantastic as it skips across the pitch. My only main complaint so far after playing two games is, as usual, the lack of fouls. Through two full matches I am yet to be fouled by the AI. This has been a problem for a few years now, and I can't understand why it hasn't been addressed by Konami.
All and all PES 19 is certainly looking like a solid improvement over last year's game, and I can't wait to try out Master League!
You should note that game always comes to it's own after a month or two with patches. Demo build is nothing but just a preview of the game. They correct all the blatant bugs, errors and things that shouldn't be in the game later on
Played some more... it really is a mixed bag. It does a lot of things right (and there are a lots of improvements), but the legacy issues rear their familiar ugly heads.
    Specifically:
    - The manual passing is broken. 50% of the manual passes are "not registered" by the intended recipient. It's a sort of glitch, which makes the recipient turn awkwardly, freeze or just watch the ball sail past.
    - The game is kind of repetitive. It feels "channeled". The only way to play in attack is with give-and-go passes. That exploits a bad mechanic, which puts the defender always at a disadvantage.
    - The sprint animation is lame and monotonous. Players should be running at different speed and this should be reflected in different animations, body angle, head angle, longer leg strides, etc. This really should be revisited.
    - The dribbles are still robotic and slow. I can't believe Konami is still insisting on this clunky system. It destroys all the fluidity of the build up.
    - My biggest gripe is this. The feeling of helplessness when trying to contain or close a passing lane is really frustrating. The CPU has a tendency to lob passes to the wingers with pinpoint accuracy. Even if you anticipate the pass with your full back and start running before the passe is made, the CPU's winger will still gets to the ball first - every time. This makes it pointless playing defense. You are basically relying on the AI "deciding that the CPU should make a mistake". Your ability as a defender in closing spaces or putting pressure on the ball has zero influence as the CPU's pass accuracy is unaffected by my pressuring on the ball. Their ability to find a man (even with long one time passes) is ridiculous.
I would advice people who didn't like 18 and are cautious with 19 to keep hitting the rematch button again and again. 5 minute matches against the AI seems ridiculously short but I think konami are fully aware that the less the playtime against the AI the better.
On pc you can unlock this and even try 15 or 20 minute matches which I recommend you do once or twice to see exactly why this is too much, lol. It's just tiring, the AI will just execute the same 2-3 attack patterns that it's programmed to do over and over and over and over and over ...
THERE ARE CERTAINLY IMPROVEMENTS. There are more fouls (but they've overdone the pressure, it's like pes17 in that regard, but this is based on a Milan - Inter matchup so rival mechanics could be to blame), and there are more errors programmed into the game. But my god. Passing on PA1 feels terrible. Probably one of my biggest problems. It's so assisted I feel like it doesn't matter if I use the left stick to aim or not at times. In fact the game will often ignore my input just to deliver a perfectly weighted pass directly to whoever the game (certainly not me) picked out.
There is no way pass stats mean anything in this game. And the AI will still one touch it everywhere in the same style and use backheels just like in 18. The AI has scored with perfect one touch string of passes (including perfect backheels) on top player difficulty, so if defending seems better, does it really matter?
Yeah it looks great, and it feels great on the ball as always, and it will probably be good fun against friends using manual passing, but that's it. A step in the right direction, but a baby step as far as I'm concerned.
I like this a lot, it back to more realistic football and its again fun to play without the ball (aka Defending).
For me Manual Passing has seen lot of improvment, very rarely players dosent understand ball and i like to pass lot of to open space and not always directly to player feet. So that usually means lot of situations when players dosent understand pass, but not in this years version. It's not always perfect, but 99% of times it is and that is something what no other previous football games to come close to that.
Gameplay seems very good, but too bad gamemodes are going to be awful (or more the same as previous, which is disappointing) for offline players.
Played on Xbox One X and some weird visual bugs... every 10 seconds or so the game would switch from high resolution to a lower one and then back up/down again. Anyone else see this?
I'm really loving the heightened physicality, more realistic shooting, and just generally less robotic gameplay.
I'm sure when we get the full game we will figure out more of the formula, and we will start to see more of the flaws in there, but hopefully not for a while.
A couple thoughts on the demo. I didn't get 2018 so I'm comparing demo to 2017.
+ Dribbling, passing etc. more fluid
+ AI positioning is better. CPU puts pressure higher up the field. Difference between AMF, CMF and DMF positions in build up is clearer. Also SBs move higher in build up. Still some things they didn't fix like CDs not moving above midline.
+ AI isn't spamming long balls when it's set to play long passes
+- CPU starts games with different A/D levels and changes them more frequently during matches. Can't tell if this is good or bad before seeing how it works in ML.
    - AI has some flaws (loose man marking inside the penalty area, dribbling out of bounds, players not picking up loose balls). I would think things like these will be fixed with patches.

I just want one persons impressions to contain the words cpu commited a penalty and then I’m all in.*
5 minute matches are too damn short to tell.
I did commit a couple of penalties on purpose. I commited an ugly slide tackle foul in the penalty area in one match and the ref ruled it a dive by the CPU. That has me a little worried.
    CujoMatty

Steam says I've played 5 hours already, I have not won one against the AI. I've seen someone claim he won one on another forum but it could be an urban legend. lol.
There's a decent amount of fouls this year, that's for sure so that's one nice improvement. I'm sure penalties are in the game but they must be rare. This seems like a design decision for a couple of years now.
The game seems improved, mainly graphically, however the goalies are just simply off. As a former Division 1 goalie I’m obsessed with goalie dives in soccer games and PES simply doesn’t get it. I have never in my life dove and ended up on my back. The goalie animations ruin this game for me.

    Good summary mate.
A few times I have closed the attacker down and the CPU just chips the ball over my player to another attacker even when there are safer options to the side. The passing around is better but it's a bit unrealistic as you don't see that many chip passes in actual football. Anyone else noticed this?

Yes it's too easy, even Superstar isn't that difficult. Don't hold your breath for an update. On Twitter I asked Adam Bhatti last year if the 2018 demo was going to be updated and his response was - Absolutely Not! All resources are towards the final release of the game and will not be used to update the demo!
I really don't understand people saying Superstar is easy. I've played about 12 games or so, only won 3 on pass support 1. Playing as a weaker side has been a challenged for me. Only 1 of my 3 wins came as a weaker side. Players seem to go out of bounds here and there. The whole stamina thing leading to injuries...doesn't seem to happen. And when players do get injured, the AI doesn't sub them out. That's disappointing.  GKs need to come out a little more. I feel they changed that from E3 because GKs were getting chipped all the time. Could have just made it harder to chip the ball. Looking forward to the final build.

In my games today I conceded and was rewarded a penalty.
This is my first year with the demo. I’m a new player who up to this point has only played FIFA so take it fwiw.
I like the tic tac toe passing, that you can’t sprint down field with possession. I also like the footwork by the best players without having to know some magical combinations.
Haven’t figured out how to lead pass without my receiver stopping. Also not as physical as I would like compared to fifa 18 and the atmosphere is pretty bland-could just be that it’s a demo. I’m on the fence tbh.
I have to say though, scoring is pretty awesome. You really feel like you’ve done something special.
Sent from my iPhone using Operation Sports
The biggest thing that makes me on the fence is whether back tracking AI has been fixed. I don't think it has because I played yesterday and there was a situation where all of my defenders immediately retreated towards my box and the opponent I was playing raced through midfield without a player close to him. Needless to say he scored because of it. I'm sure I could have done something better defensively to stop it, but the back tracking was the main reason the goal was given up.
These 5 minute halves against the CPU just make it so damn hard to judge though. In past years we've at least had 10 minute halves. Last year I jumped the gun and got it on day one. I played the game for probably 8 hours total because the back tracking bugged me so much, so this year I will wait. There is so much give take with the game.
    Positives
Gameplay: my goodness this blows FIFA out of the water minus the back tracking. Just to show off the smarts of the best players and dynamic AI, here is a situation I faced. I was playing Liverpool. They sent a ball over the top to Mane on the edge of the box. He was in a position to one-touch with momentum heading towards my goal. Instead Mane does an ever so slight header to Firmino who was just next to him. I played it thinking Sane was going to one-touch and try to dribble past my defender for a shot or cross. The slightly headed pass took me off guard and Firmino had an easy 1 v 1 with the keeper. My jaw dropped by the skill and smarts of the AI in that situation. I truly think it's the smarts of Sane that made the play and if it was a lower rated guy, he wouldn't have made that decision or would have screwed up the touch all together. I don't think I'd see something like that in FIFA.
Ball physics: Always has killed FIFA in this department. Just awesome seeing the deflections and ball spins that go out for throw-ins, goal kicks, and corners.
Passes and skills: Awesome seeing the best players in the game pull off amazing link up plays. Also, I like seeing less accurate CPU passing. I am nowhere near talented enough to pull off any sort of moves or skill passes. It's something I've always needed to learn but I don't know if I have the stick skills. I also hate the PS4 controller but it's the system I play it on due to the option files.
Lighting: Holy crap! The lighting and graphics are just amazing. As mentioned I was on regular PS4. Afterwards, I played FIFA 18 on regular Xbox one. FIFA looked so grainy and dull. It was just crazy the difference in coloring and graphics. Maybe adjusting FIFA visual settings may help, but I'm not sure that's the issue.
Negatives, besides the already mentioned back tracking.
Goalies: I just cannot put my finger on it but I have never liked goalie animations in PES. There is just something about it. Maybe I'm too used to FIFA, but I love the reactions from goalies in that game. After playing FIFA 18 after this demo, it confirmed my belief on that.
Slide tackling: While I feel it's better than last year, I still hate how far players slide in certain situations. If you miss a slide tackle sure there should be fouls, but I just don't feel it should be possible that you take down a player who was not even in the play, and was a long distance from the guy you were trying to slide tackle. It's always annoyed me. Idk, maybe it's just me.
Game is much better than last year, which was awful with that pass to the wingers and the open spaces everywhere, but ML will be just as boring so there is no way Im getting it.

I booted up 2018 last night, mainly to get the discount on the 2019 Legendary Edition pre-order. I then decided to play a few games and my goodness, the difference in visuals from 18 to 19 is night and day, especially on a 4K TV with HDR on the PS4 Pro. Probably the biggest year-to-year graphical leap I've seen in either FIFA or PES since I've been playing these games.
5 minutes halves vs. the CPU is super-frustating though. I love the demo, but there's no way for me to get a proper feel for a match at this rate.

I'll have to wait for some side by side videos but I booted it up on my 4K OLED TV PS4 Pro and wasn't blown away by an enormous graphical leap...grass was the most noticeable improvement.

Yep, HDR and 4K as well. 18 was neither. Add in touches like 60fps cutscenes (18 seemed to hover around 30fps) and improved net physics and it's a massive improvement IMO.
Speaking of 4K, I wonder how this is going to affect option files. For example, if there will be an option to upload super-HD kits in exchange for having fewer kits. We already have something similar for 1024 vs. 2048, but I have a feeling those 1024 kits aren't going to cut it anymore, at least not on a 4K screen.
I love the demo, definitely buying the full release. Atmosphere for games at the Non Camp was almost perfect, among the best I've experienced in a video game.

    Good summary mate.
A few times I have closed the attacker down and the CPU just chips the ball over my player to another attacker even when there are safer options to the side. The passing around is better but it's a bit unrealistic as you don't see that many chip passes in actual football. Anyone else noticed this?

Yeah, there are too many chip passes. Looks cool but in fact is not realistic.
Pes2019 looks graphically very nice with the new grass and lightning, but still have a lot of the same problems. Horrible impact engine (always with premade animations), lag in the gamepad controls, the defensive system still very basic, the fatigue is very bad implemented (all players run the same with the stamina bar at full than at minimun), a lot of IA problems (the cpu never shoots from long range or try individual chances of goal, always pass-pass-pass...), the cpu golkeepers in 1vs1 situations still on de goal line,...etc

18 was HDR/4K on the PS4. I don’t think the newer capable 4K/HDR Xbox was around during the development so it couldn’t be optimized.
I do know that when I boot up ‘18 on the PS4 and switch imports to the XB1 its like night and day. Then you boot up ‘19 and it’s like “DAMN!”.

I have no clue who's telling the truth. One is saying it was neither HDR or 4K, another poster is saying it was both?

All I know is PES 19 seems to have both 4K and HDR. HDR alone might make me turn my 18 copy in and buy 19. Hope the kit creators can keep up - wish Premier League and La Liga jersey name and number fonts were in the game. As good as the kits can be, when a player turns around and you see that ****ty Arial basic font kind of kills the immersion.
Yeah, it is possible that 18/4K was available on the PS4 Pro and not the XB1, I'm really not sure. Konami's website is hyping it up like it's the first time but it's vaguely worded and may just pertain to the XB1.
I never saw the HDR boot icon in 18 and I see it on the 19 demo. If 18 is HDR I'm not getting it with my setup.
Totally agree about the generic kit fonts, they're an immersion killer. Liverpool has generic name fonts in the 19 demo so it's possible nothing has changed, I'm guessing they're licensed to the league and not the team?

I still don’t know why pes doesn’t even have number outlines. That and shorter shorts would be great in edit mode. Looking forward to playing in a fully lit field in pes.

Outlines on the numbers would be great and I can't believe they don't have it. Last time a PES game had this was PES 2008 I think. Crap game but good editing and more number styles too. I'm sick of the same styles every year, half of them I hate and don't use.

Goalkeepers are still not leaving their line to narrow the angle of the attacker. That's still a problem. 1 on 1 situations, 99 % of goalkeepers come off their lines to close the gap between the attacker and make the goal smaller by closing down to the attacker.
Also goalkeepers are needlesly and unrealisticly deflecting the ball out with their feet when a shot comes up from long range and a regular keeper would have 99.5 % percent will use his hands to parry it. Using the legs with goalies should be limited to close range shots as in real life.
Another unrealistic save animation is the goalkeepers' plonging (gathering the ball with two hands without bouncing it off) hard shots. Even if they attempt to gather it with full hands they should have bounced them off a little bit to make it realistic. OR parry them which will be fully realistic.
I agree with your comments, well put. Just wanted to add these
I'm very much a Fifa player as with the sliders it has been the closest thing to real football you can get in a game, imo. But I was PES through and through in the 'glory days' of PES 4 , 5 and 6, and I always play the PES demo every year to see if it's worth switching back. Here's my quick thoughts:
    - good grief it looks amazing. Especially playing with the broadcast camera rather than whatever the default is, it looks so realistic. Give it a try if you haven't yet, it takes getting used to but you won't regret it!
    - the passing feels 'weightier', which from my perspective is a good thing as it moves away from the ping-pong passing of previous titles. I think this might annoy more seasoned PES players who liked that aspect but it's so much more realistic.
    - there are actual fouls committed by the AI. That may get removed in a patch but we live in hope!
    - GKs are still not realistic - they don't dive realistically and they still never ever come off there line.
    - There are still issues with spacing between the lines (e.g. between midfield and defence, midfield and attack) being too big, although I feel maybe this has improved slightly from 18. I must say for all the struggles that go into getting the lines in FIFA to compress and contract correctly each year using sliders, at least it's actually possible to do that in FIFA. Sometimes the positions taken up by players in PES is nearly laughable, the pitch sometimes feels far too big. This for me is the number one reason I've found PES hard to get on with in the past.
But even with that last point, I gotta say it is still a lot of fun!

Yeah I haven’t had any player switching issues when passing ball around. I use manual passing and keep everything else default.
With Manual passing, the game is so much more organic. I can play 10 min halves without feeling the game is too hectic. It’s much more methodical, which I love. The give and goes are much harder to pull off, especially at close range.

Best part of manual is that you have 100% control of your through balls. Too many times on PA1 I've had through balls not quite go where i wanted them to.

PES 19 beta online is great.. played 10 matches or so online this weekend 1 v 1
offline can't really comment because not enough time really to fully test and only played a few offline
but online PES 19 beta reminds of exactly last year when I thought the PES 18 online beta was so awesome and addicting. They should not touch the pES 19 online beta and change it. last year the actual game changed from the PES 18 beta. I'm hoping that doesn't change this year. I would say at this point it plays online like the best footie sim ever. the pace and flow of the match in 1 v 1 online is absolutely perfect. there is also errant passes at times now on PA1 and the best part about the online play in PES is there is a counter for everything. if your opponent is abusing you in a certain way all game and you know exactly what he is trying to do already.. then there is a way to counter it. at least that is what I am experiencing and what makes this game so great online. I also have a great time when I lose matches online still playing it.. very enjoyable experience so far.

I have my matchmaking on level 4 and it does take a while to find someone when compared to fifa that's for sure but it does find someone usually for me everytime. if i put it on level 5 it doesn't find anyone though.. if I put it on level 3 it finds someone quicker... so i would say you might have to drop your level if you haven't already. I also do say match my pass assist which I'm at level 1... but if you switch that to no restrictions you might find people quicker as well. good luck

It is better, but it's still a disconnect between the back line and midfield. You can turn off deep defensive line, and set defensive line to as high as possible, and the back 4 still play as if the offside rule does not exist. At this point I'm pretty sure it's a design choice to make sure there are more shots and goals.

It's a real bummer too because the game plays really nicely otherwise. I'm having a lot of fun minus this one aspect.

This is my third post on the demo.
I was on the fence after about 30 games vs. the CPU (different teams, skill level, tactics, etc.). I really wanted to like it, but I loaded FIFA 18 after 10 straight PES 19 demo games and immediately remembered why I couldn't gel with PES last year.
One word - AI. In Fifa it just works. It may not be perfect, but it feels more like football. In PES it's shambolic, with some very questionable decisions by the CPU and some moronic runs (and non runs) by your AI teammates.
    Examples:
In FIFA you have players dropping back to receive the ball, players making intelligent runs (even without triggering the run button), they take intelligent spots on the pitch. As long as you track back with your midfielder and strikers (as opposed to defenders), the game actually plays well on defense. Teams shapes are also realistic.
With PES it's just frustrating. The breaks lack oomph. Players running at the same speed, team mates not making intuitive runs. As for the CPU, it always goes back to a midfielder who will one time chip it to a winger. Always. Even when the CPU is one v. one with the keeper it passes back. Come on.
I can't help but feel you can always score in PES - if you use the give and go. It basically works every time. As for the CPU, those pinpoint chip passes to the winger ruin the game, not because they are always successful (which they are) but because of the repetitiveness of it all. Players take forever to recover form a tackle. The feints are so clunky and take forever to execute. Team shapes on the pitch leave huge gaps between midfield
and defense. The pitch basically looks too big for the action. I can go on...
PES also feels "locked" for the lack of a better word. When you win the ball it's not because you have intercepted or closed the passing intelligently, it is because the AI has "decided" to make a mistake. When you chase a ball, you can't change direction, you are basically locked in that trajectory until either your player or the CPU reaches the ball. It looks so 1990s, it lacks freedom and fluidity.
Yes, PES looks beautiful, the player faces, frames and sizes are meticulously portrayed, it has a sense of theater (headers are amazing) and the shooting feels so real and gratifying (even when you miss), but ultimately it is a frustrating experience for me. Even when I win I feel underwhelmed and don't feel like playing another match afterwards, whereas FIFA makes me want to come back for more.
Sadly, I'll give it a miss this year unless something dramatically changes in the final version.

If you read my post, you will see I mentioned I tried different teams and different levels. For the last 10 games I stayed on Top Player however. I also tried different support settings for passes and settled on 1 (which I feel it is too assisted but manual is just broken - as explained in my previous posts).
You have a point about comparing Demo and final game and that's why I said, I will give it a miss UNLESS something changes dramatically. But I am a realist.
I will respectfully disagree with your opinion that patching will significantly improve the game though.
I played 2018 until a month ago. PES 19 is basically the same engine, it is plagues by the same issues. The notorious lack of runs has been known since forever. The huge spaces in midfield - ditto. The reliance on give and go passing, the clunky dribbling - all this is not new. The recovery latency after a tackle. Stuff which is recycled year after year. This is ingrained in the engine - it can't change with a patch. Yes, maybe they will tone down the CPU chips passes to the wingers, but the game is marred with poor AI sadly. I would love to be proven wrong. I would love to see a PES with good AI, trust me.

All valid points lareka BUT the whole point of a demo is to judge the game, especially considering how long it takes for Konami to put out their first patch.

Well there's not much to argue, we think about it differently. I play football by myself all my life long so i look at different things when i play the game. Ex: Playing 600th game in PES and scoring a different goal makes me feel really good. Fifa is more recycled for me, the game doesn't let you do certain things, freedom is limited, it's a choice - PES or FIFA. So I respectfully disagree but that's your opinion, nothing to argue

Well i'm saying is "don't" judge the game from the DEMO. As awkward as it sounds that's the case with PES. Konami doesn't put so much effort in demos and game changes drastically when game releases. It should be the opposite when it's a demo but Konami isn't doing a good job with demos reflecting full game quality. That's all i'm saying.
Do people even remember the differences between the demo gameplay last year compared to the full game? Every year when demos drop people always say something along the lines of, "you can't pay too much attention to the demo, the game will be way different."
I can't think of a year where the difference between the demo and the fullgame was noteworthy, from a graphics or gameplay standpoint. And with 5 minute demo matches vs the CPU there's going to be no way to compare the two that will be placebo-proof.
I have never bought the game. I am judging the game based upon the demo, for better or worse. If the demo is not representative of the final game then they shouldn't be putting out a demo.

I think it's always like that. usually fifa demo is different from the actual game as well. In years past i remember fifa demos being very fast and arcade like but when the game drops they tone it down some. This years FIFA demo is actually a good pace when compared to usual demos surprisingly... hope this doesn't mean they will speed up the actual game. on pes however, it kind of the opposite a few times. they released a PES 18 online beta last year with perfect pace of play but then when the actual game came out.. it was sped up is one of the differences for sure and it made it a little less sim overall imo.
this year I have only been judging the PES 19 beta online because you can play full matches. I hope the actual game play online in PES 19 full release will be very similar ...
with that said there is also a lot of placebo effects when it comes to PES every time they do updates or different builds imo.... who knows but that's what i felt before last year. i'm not saying the game was way worst or anything but it seem to change some from the demo which was very good last year
i basically bought PES 18 at launch last year basically because of how good that PES 18 online beta was I played non stop.. and then the full game released it was not as great. but during the course of the year with gameplay updates it did get better.
one of the problems in the PES community just like FIFA is people who play these demos give feedback good and bad and the developers do tweak it some. that's why they tweaked PES from the beta last year because there were many people who complained the pace was to slow I specifically remember

In 2015 and earlier what you say is true - demo represents the full game play. Especially now they update the game too often and they adddress gameplay errors / unrealistic things after the game is released. So yes the game CHANGES a lot nowadays with updates. This is a fact. Goalkeepers not good enough ? Solved with an update ! Not enough fouls by AI ? Solved by an update. Any other thing that bothers the community gets addressed. So when you play the demo you will notice that there are some things in the game that shouldn't be in the game or it will bother you moving forward. They address them. That's why we live in this day and age and companies take advantage of it. They use the feedback of community to good use.

Times have changed. You shouldn't judge a sports game by demo now. You can judge a FPS or an action game or whatever by demo build but in sports games they tweak the gameplay upon community's feedback and they apply updates to make the gameplay much much much better. It's a FACT. I have played more than 800 games in PES 18 and PES 17 seperately. So if you wouldn't trust my opinion i don't know whose you would... :)
The more I play this the more I see a lot of things that are just off putting especially against other online players. One thing I noticed is Free Kicks are waaaaaay too easy to put on target this year most of the goals I have conceded online has been FKS and James Milner is the second coming of Beckham in PES 19. It's very strange that with the increase of fouls that they haven't balanced this properly.
Also, goal keepers seemed like they have taken a huge step backwards this year. They don't come off there lines even when crosses are dangerously close to them. Also there animations are really jarring compared to everyone one else on the pitch, seriously that floating superman dive/catch needs to go. Some of there issues I wonder come from them having the Defensive Keeper playstyle which I have always felt that it has never been implemented properly. I always find it interesting that when ever Konami tweaks shooting goalies always suffer, they can't seem to get the balance right.
I am also not seeing the effects of stamina through out the game. Online people constantly press and more often or not you will be rewarded for the play style. I wish stats and skill really came into affect here.

Well I think I know what you mean but I think when you play a demo you have to realize that some minor things may change, like as you say above. But overall a demo should represent the vision of the game.
I like PES but I'm not sure I can justify buying a second soccer game since I'm already all in on FIFA.
I certainly will add it on Steam and keep an eye out for a sale if nothing else though

Yeah that was perhaps the only announced feature that made me have a little bit of hope and it's been shown that it doesn't really have any effect, see:

I wonder if this has anything to do with the shortened demo times. I've heard reports of players gasping for air and refusing to run if the sprint button is spammed too hard, but that could be coming from journalists who have access to the full game.

Yeah, this is dumb. I've seen videos on youtube of guys testing the stamina out, literally controlling one guy with low stamina stats for the entire match, holding the sprint button down the whole time, and the effects were minimal to nothing.
Problem is, a lot of people don't want to have players catch an injury or wear down. I complained about it years ago, saying how dumb it is that you can run nonstop with zero consequences, and people were not interested because they didn't want their defense players to tire and get outrun badly. Idk.
Doesn't the game actually come out this month, like in a week or two. I thought I remember they were releasing it early this year. But I could be wrong. I pre-ordered on PS4 digitally months ago, and haven't been paying attention to the actual release.
Yeah looks like the 28th. So a week and half.
Only played 3 games after downloading, but I have to admit I really like where PES is going this year. More time is needed of course, but I really liked the way the game felt. Passing feels good (on 1) and trying to ping pong doesn't seem like it'll be something you can do.
More games needed of course, but my initial thoughts are that PES 2019 is headed in the right direction. I played both last year, and was kinda disappointed by both. The real problem IMO, is that PES on PC, especially here in the US is basically a desert and trying to play online is a waste of time. Hopefully more people will be in the pool this year and improve things.
I guess no one is playing online anymore in the PES 19 beta on ps4 as well. :( last weekend I played non stop and it found games everytime
last night i tried to play online again for the first time since last weekend and now I can't find any matches no matter what level i choose in matchmaking.. so not sure if it's disabled or just no one is playing any longer i guess...
this is one reason why I like fifa is there is always someone to play online at anytime and the ease of getting into an online game and finishing is quick and painless.. I hope PES can be more like this in the future.
any one in the states want to try to play the beta online some matches tonight or this weekend.. hit me up on PSN stevostl
I will pre order... not sure which copy though as I think i might be more interested in myclub this season

Can someone refresh my memory if PES has the Serie A license/teams out of the box? I've been playing with option files for so long that I've completely forgotten.

Yes all teams are licensed except for Juventus.
Just in case this hasn't been posted: HERE is the link to the demo time extender. It's set to 20 mins, so you might want to lower that a bit. Tested and works.
Played 4-5 games tonight using the demo time expander on 12 mins.
I have a pretty mediocre PC, but even with all the graphics options on high I'm able to play at 60fps. I played games both on Pro and Top Player
I really like the feel of the passing, there's weight to the ball and the players. You can't just make a pass in a direction your player isn't facing (normally, good players can and do make backheel passes). But I do think there isn't enough distinction between an average player and a great player's passing.
But...too many times I just thought "Why did you do that?". Defenders not covering a player in the box; attackers just standing around, or making a run at a poor time.
I just don't know why the AI does some of the things it does. It's really frustrating to have the CPU AI closing you down and tight marking everyone on the field while your CD plays a couple yards off a striker in the box and just allows a simple pass and turn to shoot on goal.
And can we please just have a "player run" button like FIFA? Why is it so hard to do this? Press a button, move a stick, release the stick and maybe a player you wanted (or one you didn't) will maybe jog in a straight line. It's so frustrating.
So, for me at least I can't see buying this year. Wait until Dec and you'll get to play the MyClub mode for free, which will be useless because as a US player on PC, there's like 10 of us for online play anyways.
I've played the demo and the game looks beautiful, simply outstanding. However, I am frustrated with how tenacious the AI defense plays. PES 2016 was a game I enjoyed because it was fun and you could have various types of games (high-scoring, low-scoring) and PES 2018 is simply the best (except for an inability to get players on myClub). I was very disappointed with PES 2017 because, although being a great-looking game especially with option files), it was not fun playing due to difficulty scoring. Initially, I was very excited about PES 2019 with the additional leagues but now I'm very torn now that I've played the demo as well as recently finding out there will not be the second leagues for Spain and Italy. That combined with no Champions League is increasingly frustrating. I still play PES 2018 every day would have been completely happy if the gameplay remained the same and just upgraded graphics and rosters as well as increasing leagues and adding generic leagues
Played a couple games of 18, then 19 to compare, both Top Player.
The difference in graphics is night/day. They really did a good job there. But...on PC I get some kind of ghosting. It happens all the time in the Veltins Stadium, and very rarely at the Neu Camp. Hopefully this doesn't make it into the release.
19 definitely has improved the AI's defense. They play passing lanes much better, and they close down, sometimes I think too well. But they are merciless on Top Player. I still have issues that my AI players don't do this. It's always been one of my peeves sports titles do, and PES is no different.
Tricks and feints in 19 are much less useful. Not sure how I feel about this, but in 18 a simple shoulder feint would often throw off a defender. In 19 that seems to rarely happen. IMO I think they went a little too far.
It was really evident to me that first touches in 19 are very different. With the AI defense really closing you down, a poor touch means you lose possession. The issue being that I don't feel you have much control over that, it's more down to the player's.
But, I did notice some good things. I played a lot of both FIFA and PES last year, and I can tell you these two goals wouldn't be scored in FIFA.
In the first goal, the thru ball would never happen. Instead it would go to one of the defenders. But PES does these passes very well. And in the second, Salah's leave and turn on the ball to evade the defenders is something FIFA can't do. There is supposed to be a way to do this, but in all the hours I played FIFA, I could never get it to work. Again, PES does this well and it's very satisfying when it comes off.

    Very good points.
This is why I play PES instead of FIFA. My whole football philosophy either when i'm playing in real life or in video game is to have these little tricks, feints to get by defenders and pass through the traffic with perfect through pass to create goalscoring opportunity. As you pointed out, FIFA doesn't let that happen.
pes 16 was perfect better than FIFA I quite FIFA 16 to play PES 16 instead
and since then each PES is more and more like FIFA
    IMPOSSIBLE TO SCORE GOALS NOW
boring 1-0 0-0 games and that is in the DEMO ffs what a boring mess this game is now
people want to score goals PES should have never copied FIFA
    Zac
That Hendo pass is so unrealistic though.

I wondered if anyone would pick up on that. I agree it's not a great example of PES' passing. But this is on PA1, which is generally not this forgiving.
I played a lot more over the weekend online 1 v 1... game is so addicting when playing 1 v 1 online vs friends or other solid connections.
I think PES19 beta is the best 1 v 1 online sports video with friends there is to play. nothing beats it for me... in terms of being in control of the outcome of your matches and how enjoyable it is to play. When I lose I know what I did wrong.. or when I give up a goal i know what I did wrong. I like that best about this game. one of the biggest improvements for me in PES19 over last years is I don't find myself giving up goals now often that are out of my control.. what i mean is in last years PES it happened a lot that I sometimes would give up a goal that was just some stupid bounces that went the other users way and nothing I could do about it. I find this year this doesn't happen to me hardly ever at all... like when I give up a goal.. i know exactly what i did wrong now. if that makes sense
I captured some videos of my PES19 beta online game playing this weekend
I will post my firmino rising shot goal.. but if you want to see more just click on my site and watch the pes videos.

Love the little contextual animations sprinkled in this game. Also Shalke is my favorite team to use vs other players in this demo.
I'm really excited for next week.
The gameplay is great, I've been playing offline on -1 speed, which is perfect for me. I hope that they add the game speed option back for online lobby games.
Really starting to feel comfortable with my decision to not get FIFA and go back to solely PES this year. Football's coming home!
For anyone playing on a nice 4k hdr tv, so yourself a favor and play a game on player lock with the be a pro camera at camp nou day game. Graphically stunning.
Manual passing makes this game so much more fun. And that’s coming from a guy who never cared for Manual passing. Opens everything up and is much more rewarding. Not sure if I can ever do manual shooting though

ha yes I agree with this although I haven't played in 4k before but just playing the game in vertical view I was able to see some cool stuff to makes you understand the physics of the game and players movement better as well when playing like that. ALso, i like you never really cared for manual passing but at first to trick the PES19 beta to match up with my friend every time we first had to set it to manual passing to do that before we figured it out how to do it.. any ways we both enjoyed it and it does make the game very rewarding and more real for sure. I also agree with manual shooting. I don't got the nerves for that one. I'm always willing to play manual passing vs others who are using it though.
here is video of me and buddy playing against each other in vertical view online.. it's not exactly lock on player but it does give you another cool look of the game and helps you understand player movement..
and best of all.. it's so fun to shoot in this view.... that's why you see me shooting non stop lol

I haven't touched that camera since PES 2009 but I like what I am seeing. I feel like you can REALLY see how good the ball physics are from that angle!
That used to be my go to angle for BAL. Player cam is cool too but after a while all the constant camera pans start to mess with me. Probably why I never got into FPS's.

    same here
and yeah I think it's cool to play but it's not the camera i'm best on or will probably play online on with. I just use default camera actually. I just thought vertical view was fun to play and gives you a different perspective of the game.. and makes you appreciate all the different animations and also helps you understand player movement better. I'm not that bad passing on it (you can really get some good through balls) and dribbling and shooting is really fun on it.. but my defending is not as good for sure on that view.
From reading about the changes to MyClub, and VERY disappointed to see there isn't any changes to offline content. It looks like it'll be the same 2-3 game a week against the CPU for minimal reward. Not everyone plays online, and a PC player in the US had a hard time finding the other 10 people who play online anyways. C'mon Konami.

Agreed. I enjoy a bit of MyClub every now and then, but I mostly play offline and there just isn't much to do there. Every other UT mode has some kind of mission-based reward system to engage offline players, Konami really needs to step up to the plate next year.
PC demo updated today. AI not playing down the wings every time now. A lot more build up and back passing. Shooting from outside the box a bit more as well. Goalies still not coming off line, but I feel the Defense is a lot more stable and the visual bugs happening on PC are gone.

On twitch there are guys streaming the retail version, and offline in general (master league, etc) looks no different than last year. Gameplay is king, but man they need to add more stuff. And presentation for the new leagues is practically non-existent.
This game looks fantastic, cant believe this is a PES game. Huge improvement from the last, the players arent as bulky for one. Game is terrible with auto controls, I scored 2 goals in about 3 minutes. Switched to all manual and really enjoyed how it played. The game seems less franetic than lasts years sprint fest up and down the field. I was playing on top player. This is from a limited sample size of course.

Can someone touch on fouls in this version? Has that bug finally been fixed, and does the computer finally commit them with some frequency to result in free kicks and penalty kicks? Please oh please...
Sometimes circumstances make you have to try again. Honest I did not play Pes 19 demo very long = delete. But when a retailer here in Scandinavia offers the game at release price around 15 usd!?!, You can not say no! "It says a bit about the lack of enthusiasm for the game at least in Scandinavia. The point with this unnecessary commentary is just never say never. And that someone is jealous, 15 usd, I do not get it ?!,:lol:

I had many free kicks on every game on demo and matches are only 5 min length. Huge improvment from last years version. Also had 2 penalty kicks from opponent CPU slidetackling, but they are on about 20h gameplay so not many penalties.
