NBA 2K18
NBA 2K18 on Nintendo Switch Fully Featured, More Details Here
The Nintendo Switch version of NBA 2K18 will be fully featured, meaning it will include all of the modes the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 has.
According to GameInformer, NBA 2K18 on the Switch will use the same engine as the PlayStation and Xbox One, but will take a hit graphically and only run at 30 FPS.
Roster, MyTEAM and game updates will arrive on the Nintendo Switch at the same time as they do on current-gen consoles.
The digital version arrives on September 15, but Switch fans that want a physical copy, will need to wait until October 17. Check out the GameInformer article for more details.

As for the cartridges, this whole situation is very confusing. I've read the reports that the physical cartridge will be delayed until later in the fall. I have no problems with that. However Bestbuy and Gamestop etc... are still selling the physical copy of the game like you will have early access on Sept. 15.
Well how does that work? Does that mean you get to play the digital version early, even though you bought the physical copy? Mind you, the physical version can be had for around $12 cheaper. If so, will that digital version work until the cartridge is released and then be shut down or will the cartridge continue to not be required?
Obviously saving money would be nice and I like the idea of having the physical game and the box, but I really prefer the ease use digital downloads provide. If you end up getting both versions when buying the physical copy because of this strange circumstance I'd like to know that. I also understand it's possible it may not be in 2K's best interest to clarify this if it may cost them money on the digital only side.
Personally, I'll be buying digital like always on my PS4 and will be waiting for more news before I decide which version I'm getting on the Switch.
Maybe we'll hear more about it soon.

No features missing. Great news.
Cheers! ;-)
I have seen/heard enough to make this a day 1 purchase for me!
Same here dawg
Also, I'm more of an NFL/MLB guy. So I don't end up playing 2k as much as I'd like. This helps that a ton.
Same here, but I will also get it for Xbox One... and I am sure I will be thinking about the PC version later in the year when the price drops... Do I have a problem, Doctor? :y220d:

This popped into my head too, the Draft Classes. Hopefully they're "good enough".
Can't imagine having this on a car trip. The Switch could become one of the GOAT consoles. Needs Madden/GTA in my opinion. And I guess, Call of Duty although I don't play that.
Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk
There have been patches for several games like NBA Playgrounds, Zelda, etc. so I would imagine this won't be a problem.
Although, who knows what the timing will be. Esp with 2K.

Ok OK...nice nice...didn't know about that...perhaps a switch might be in my future after all..

Wow that looked pretty good. I'm sure graphic quality won't be as good as PS4/XboxOne but, based on the video, it wasn't a glaring downgrade. Man if I had a Switch 2k18 would totally take over and ruin my life.
http://pic.twitter.com/VmjRPdfhic
Damn, shouldn't have watched that video. Now I'm going to be spending $150 on one game lol.
The brightside is I can have two different MyPlayers now, an at-home model and a portable model
http://pic.twitter.com/VmjRPdfhic
Looking really good! I did some Remote Play on my Vita, but those rear-touch controls were terrible. Playing on the Switch is going to be so nice!
Kudos to 2K for giving Switch owners a full-feature game that mirrors the PS4/Xbox One outside of graphics. This should be the model for all sports games on the Switch!
As long as it's smooth who cares about FPS?
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I think I will just stick with the PS4 version and see if I am tempted by a sale for the Switch version on Black friday.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
fps defines how smooth a game is though..
We'll see what happens when we have the game in our hands (literally).
I think most of us were expecting some sort of compromise given the disparity between the systems themselves.
Strictly speaking for myself, the ability to take this to work to lab for a few minutes at lunch and then dock it and keep playing on my 70" tv takes priority over graphics. Of course, graphics aren't as important to me as other things, I play all kinds of games with less than 1080p/4K/whatever.
Instead of reading Operation Sports at work I will be working on Iso Motion, or labbing plays, or playing MyLeague games, or editing Draft Classes.
:bandito:
This guy at game informer says the file size is around 25gb. Also is it confirmed that the cartridges are going to be delayed? It sounds like they may not be.

Says only a few days later for the physical release. I'll wait for that; don't want one game taking up my whole memory card, and don't feel like buying a larger one and transferring files right now.
I don't think they will
They will, They waited to put the physical copies of Madden up. They already have WWE 2K18 for switch is up.

Well, that's more than a few days, lol. Hmm ... may just wait until Oct. anyway, since I've got a busy stretch coming up for work and that physical release date actually falls in a window where I'd actually be able to play the game.
In my dream scenario, I could play the majority of my games on my PS4 at home, but then take that MyGM or MyCareer save on the road with the Switch. Visual Concepts agrees that's an interesting proposition, but it isn't happening with NBA 2K18.
:(
Still getting it on switch though haha
The guy in the video doesn't know how to play.
The camera movement was HORRIBLE.
And his voice is super annoying.
And I watched every second of it lol because I'm just that hyped for this game.

Have fun with Zelda, it's amazing! I've put a little over 200hrs in that game and it's still a blast.
The graphics look.. off.. Is it just me? It almost looks like NBA Live character models.
Play NBA 2k on PSP (The last mobile 2K game), and tell me how off the graphics are.
I'm ready!

That's fine and all I'm just not sold that this is the exact same game. Feature wise maybe. Gameplay and graphics wise it looks more like a ps3/360 port.

Here's a (super) short video of the game running in docked mode. It's hard to gather much from the footage here, hopefully we can see more unfiltered gameplay soon.
Don't be overhyped and take it as what it is, the best sport game on the Switch, yet, downgraded in some form from the PS4/X1 versions.
Had I had the money would buy a Switch just to have it as handheld option.
I wonder if we can get this game on the 15th like the other systems if we pre-order.

Same! Very hyped!
Load times were great, some people mentioned that as a concern but they really weren't noticeably different than any other version.
Don't really have impressions yet other than that. The graphics are between 360/XBone IMO.
I will be playing this thing A LOT. Very happy with this game.
I am having the same experience and I would say it is not only button responsiveness but also ergonomics. Playing with the joycons I can´t feel as comfortable as with the Xbox One gamepad, one is not aware of the complex combinations of buttons you use so seamlessly to play this game until you use a totally different controller your not used to...
In any case, great product this 2k18 for Switch, I will playing a lot of it in the future so, hopefully, I will get used to the Nintendo setup, buttons and pads... I am sure it would improve dramaticlly using a Pro controller, but I am not going to buy one just for this game... or will I perhaps? LOL
Cheers! ;-)

My biggest concern heading in to this is playing it in portable mode. Holding the console is very awkward in my hand even for a simpler game like Zelda. Can't imagine what it will be like for 2k. I don't own a pro controller but it looks great - but the problem is if I'm going to be playing on my TV it will be the better version of the game. I want 2k for portable mode.
Edit - Sorry already answered

Now what I did I archived it, and now it's downloading again with the memory card in it.
Am I doing the right thing, or is there other steps I need to take?

Can you give some impressions compared to both versions? How do they each play in relation to one another? Are there limitations on the Switch? Any info between the two versions?
I'm really on the fence whether to get it on my Xbox or Switch.
Anything and all info would be awesome and greatly appreciated by me and anyone else in the same boat.

I can shed some insight
The switch version has no effects or cloth physics but shares the same animations, face scans and gameplay as does the xbox one or ps4 versions.
One its portable.
two its relatively feature complete to the ones on xbox 1 and ps4
Three the control scheme is a bit different.
Im super surprised by how good it actually is on switch

The graphics are surprisingly good. I expected a step down when it comes to the the player models and faces, but that's certainly not the case.
Getting accustomed to the console in portable mode takes a bit of time. I might get a Pro controller, but being that I'm using it on the plane or train, primarily, the Pro controller wouldn't do me much good.
I'm still a bit disappointed in the responsiveness. To me, there's an input lag.

I hope they patch that soon.
The 30 FPS doesn't bother me because the game is very smooth.
You lose things like cloth textures but the convience of being able to play on the go is worth it.
For me, the biggest annoyance is that socks or undershorts seem to break through the mesh. It's a graphical annoyance for me.
I don't think there's an option to import a custom team into MyLeague/MyGm, but I'll keep looking.
I definitely don't regret my purchase even if it's not in the game.
The presentation is top notch and is definitely up to 2K standards.

-The game looks and performs better in handheld mode. The game doesn't look bad in docked mode, but does feel a little washed out and more akin to the PS3/360 ... I guess you could say the Switch version of 2K18 is what the game would look like if such a thing as a PS3.5 existed.
-The options for creating your player appear to be very limited. I couldn't even add facial hair.
-Framerate is stable for the most part. There's a few slowdowns when graphic overlays appear on the screen. I'm usually not a framerate snob, but man, you'll definitely notice the difference in 30 FPS as compared with 60 FPS.
-Controls do seem a little sluggish and are definitely sensitive with the joycons. I had several instances where I tried passing one direction and the ball went another way. You really have to be spot on with your aiming. The pro controller is great to use in docked mode.
-Overall, I'm VERY HAPPY with the game! It's awesome to have the ability to play a full-featured NBA 2K game on the go or at home. This is a great first effort on the Switch by 2K.
Compared to those versions, the Switch version is definitely a notch down in visuals, but that is not knocking the game in any way. I have still come across very impressed with what they have been able to accomplish for a console that is mainly purchased by most for it's handheld capabilities. The frame rate difference is noticeable, but doesn't really detract once you are actually in a game.
Both docked and handheld mode play very well, but like someone else said earlier, I was puzzled as to why the my player customization options are so limited.
Lag is present in both handheld or docked mode, and this is regardless of you playing with the joy cons or pro controller. You can definitely get used to it, but it can definitely affect your jump shot timing. I'm sure 2K has to keep this in mind and will have a patch before retail release.
Overall, very impressed! To have this title released on the Switch with very little compromise is impressive. Glad to be able to play this anywhere, and I could see this potentially being the console I play it on the most over time. Here's to hoping WWE2K18 is just as good and that sales lead to more of our favorite sports games releasing on the Switch in the future.

Another thing I noticed last night while playing My Career in The Neighborhood: I was getting weird audio drops in the cut scenes before and after my first game. The game was fine as was running around in the neighborhood, but just right before and after the game.
I don't want to sound like I'm being a Negative Nellie, because I still am in awe about being able to play this game on the go. The basketball part and broadcast presentation pieces have been fantastic, just some other issues outside the gameplay.

Bad jokes aside, thanks for the info. I won't be playing that career mode anyway, so no worries, just in the past you had access to a larger creation suite.
I don't see that option right now.
Houston shot close to 60% from the floor and scored 68 points in the first half, while Philly hovered around 35%. Second half I held the Rockets to 44%, but again, that hot first half really was the difference in the game.
Really enjoyed the game overall.
1: When I first booted up the game I was unable to connect online, so I created the base MyPlayer and did a couple play now games and was on my way.
2: The next time I booted up the game and connected, the screen to create my MyPlayer account came up. So I created it with my email (which is the same email I've used in the past when I had 2K on Xbox 360, and then on PS3 and PS4.) I never received an email to confirm my account. Yesterday, the game said I had to re-create my account because I never confirmed it. So I re-created it, and still haven't received a confirmation email.
3: In trying to start the MyPlayer mode, my player is locked in as a Small Forward, and I don't know the archetypes. I wanted to create a stretch 4 this year (usually I do a pass-first PG), but don't see how to change this now.
I'm still early in gameplay. Obviously haven't started a MyCareer yet. I'm only 3 games into MyGM mode. And I've just played a couple MyTeam challenges...so I'm not too concerned with losing progress right now. Do I need to just delete everything end start all over? Has anyone else had trouble with setting up a MyCareer account on Switch?
https://youtu.be/zPxrVYGGNIo
I've mentioned this to other people who said they hadn't noticed anything. Thought I was going crazy as well.
Though...I am adjusting to it, I guess...
Got the game this morning and I did find that you can download custom rosters. It's just like 2k17 where you go into options and create roster then it shows all the rosters online you can download.
Thats great news. Did you happen to notice a way to download draft classes as well?
I had some issues like that too that I think were caused from sleep/wake. The audio would run ok but the frame rate from the cut scene ranked and took about twice as long to finish.
The MyCareer courts are a bit sparse for us Switch users but the games I did play were lots of fun.
Many people online?
Many people online?
It seemed fine to me. I am not that sensitive to input lag though so take that into account. So far the people I have played a few 3 on 3 games with have been pretty good and not ball hogs.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yep you can, same spot in the options except you select create draft class, then it comes up with all the downloadable files. I'm surprised at just how many files are there already by other users.
No sign of the save game glitch here and not delving too much into MyPlayer or MyTeam until I hear they've fixed it since I had the same issue on XBO last year.
Game continues to have me pumped for seeing what other developers achieve on the Switch. Only main gripe continues to be that input lag which is harder to adjust to when you play both XBO/PS4 and Switch.
There is one thing I found interesting though which isn't a big deal for me since XBO is going to be where I play at least my MyPlayer mode. Has anyone found a way to link the My NBA2k18 app to the Switch version?

I can't see a way to sign in as an account for the Switch version anywhere. And when I signed up on the Switch, I've never received a confirmation email, which I guess means I don't have an account? (Really, I'm unclear on it...and also haven't started a MyCareer because of it yet...)
I received the confirmation e-mail, but don't think it really does anything at this point. I know facial scanning is coming in a patch, but think it's all pointless at this time. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please.

However, you don't have to press Y on the Switch to jump. You press X which is in the same spot as Y on the Xbox.
The only time I can think of where it causes an issue is when you're in a menu requiring an icon press (such as pass icons). You'll see Y over a players head and probably press X because of the difference in configuration.

I love this thing. It feels like a fully realized Vita.

I preorder the 8BitDo SN30, it has all of the buttons and seems more portable so we will see how that works. Did you notice a difference in lag with Pro Controller. I haven’t had a chance to test it out on mine yet.

I have played mostly with the pro controller, whether on my TV or not. Timing feels the same as the Joy Cons but I've adapted to it. This is the only version I'm playing this year.

I already GOT old hahaha.
Only times I notice input lag is when I try and quickly chain dribble moves together. Otherwise, don't really have many issues. I will say that the lag is slightly more noticeable in docked mode.

I’m having a hard time with shot timing. It’s night and day from the PS4 version. Seems much quicker. Any tips?
My tip is - don't play the ps4 version! :google:
I have a couple of people on my team (Spurs) that I haven't quite mastered yet. Best tip is to practice with the same guys over and over.
If you can't quite get it there is always the option of Real Player % for shooting. I use it on free throws to introduce some randomness.

Bobby, since you've been playing while traveling, have you seen any more Save Data corruption? I've been limiting my playing away from home since there's no clear cut cause for the corruption yet.
I had it happen yesterday. I haven't started any career modes, so only had to change my settings back. The biggest pain is having to go through making a player again. I have zero interest in that mode, but there's no way to skip having to enter in an email address or the vitals.

Problem is so many modes rely on VC so they need to be connected in order to be played. They do still need to optimize how the system is handling the data when it switches into an offline mode to avoid corruption. I hope Nintendo isn't the one holding the patch up like they supposedly did with NBA Playgrounds.
Some quibbles.
I will state the lower FPS - if that's causing it - is problematic. Players slide by when defending, almost doing multiple moves for every press. Good luck staying in front of someone even with LZ pressed.
There's also a very obvious, frustrating delay when shooting that makes outside shots overly challenging for no reason. The shot stick is the only option as it lessen but does not eliminate the problem.
Your teammates are morons defending 3 point shooters. I get lit up because my dufus teammates fail to guard the perimeter, D preferences, be damned. They also space horribly on O. It's pick and roll, all the time, or bust.
Load screens will also occasionally hang for no reason. Fade to black, then...?
Also, halftime/pregame/TOs and related cut scenes are often non-responsive to requests to skip.
Auto sub player rotations are terrible. Wrong people, wrong minutes.
Before I'm labeled all doom and gloom, the ability to play a full fledged bball title in portable fashion is such a guilty pleasure. Despite these quibbles, this gets more burn than Live for this reason. These issues, however, need to patched. I'm optimistic this will happen.
I also haven't gotten the corrupted save issue since Day 1 or 2 again as well.
Mind you, I used to play 2k almost yearly from 2k-2k11, but my last one was 2k13 on the WiiU. This game is MILES past that game in terms of control and overall package, so I may not have seen or played the issues that were in 2k16 or 17.
Overall, I'm still continually impressed that EVERYTHING is on this little machine!!
All in all i'm getting adjusted to this version and have no plans of playing on XBone, PS4 or PC.
My feeling's a bit more negative.
I'm finding it near impossible to stay in front of ANY ball handler due to non-responsive controls and/or frame rate. This is not helped by the most moronic AI defense that is almost never on the right man (to potentially compensate) or switches properly. Yes, I've turned help D sliders WAY up to compensate, no change. I've been playing 2K for ages; I know it's not me.
I also see weird menu and now a full blown 'need to quit' game freeze rear their head.
I love playing this on the go, but these are getting my goat, admittedly.

Are those custom skins on the joycons?
They aren't skins, I got them from colorware and paid far too much money for them lol.
They actually paint the joycons themselves, the quality is OEM-like. As a 41 year old who grew up with the NES, they were a must-have for me haha.

Hopefully that fixes the save corruption issue.

Nope. I'm on 1.02 and files were corrupted tonight.
The game just starts over.

Haven’t tried it yet. Will do so and report back.
OK, well I did get an update data prompt when playing last night, so perhaps that did something because I had no issues.
Played the Cavs (ÇPU) at Warriors last night (All-Star, 12-min. quarters) and it was an absolute blast. Game looks great in handheld mode, and less lag, too. Loving this game.

I absolutely love it.
Between this and Fifa my switch is getting serious use. My PS4 and XBOXONE are probably getting jealous.

You wont regret it. Especially now that the patch is out!
Playing on breaks or lunch at work is fantastic.

I am doing Myplayer and Myteam, and I just can't get consistent on my shots. I don't get a lot of green yet, but I feel too at times even when I have good shots I just miss.
The microtransactions can be frustrating, but like I said I can't put the game down. Theres something that keeps me coming back for more.
