Interestingly late. Perhaps not a good sign.

Be optimistic.

Just bc news is coming in February doesn't mean it's not a good sign. I mean, it could be early February which means only a few weeks. Plus, with everything going on in the world today especially with Covid, you can't expect that it didn't affect production in some way. Given their track record of putting out an excellent game year in and year out, I'm sure they can be given the benefit of the doubt.

Well I guess that means I have at least one wrong answer in that "Guessing Game" thread.

The last few years, it seems they wait until after the super bowl to provide any meaningful information so this isn’t surprising. Even still, it wouldn’t shock me if this year’s game is delayed, especially the PS5 version.

I seriously hope they bring it to the One X, and not just next gen.

If PC is ever in the plans in the future, myself and others shouldn't expect that to happen this year. I don't know if that's something we can ever expect anyway, but I'll knock on wood.
Since Spring Training isn't right around the corner I don't have the baseball itch just yet to say I need information right now, so I'm just hoping whatever they provide on the current-gen front is pretty bonkers and fresh!

Other sports games are releasing infos really early in the process creating a crescendo. With MLBTS, they’re always waiting after new year, after Super Bowl, after next full moon and hiding information like they detain a secret and there’s ton of competition observing what will be their next move.

Normally by now we would have a cover athlete, a release date, and a gameplay trailer would either have been released or just about to be released.
We got the '20 cover athlete and release date late October and a gameplay trailer sometime in January I think, maybe late December. I know the first developer twitch stream was the last day or so of January where they discussed the trailer.
So while the bulk of the news/developer streams happen in February, typically by now the community has something to discuss in terms of the next release.

I mean, do we honestly think they really are waiting on the rules to make sure franchise is right? I can't imagine that's high on their list of reasons.

It is not much of a surprise that we will hear something in February.
By this time last year I believe they were already taking pre-orders.

The world is still a dumpster fire (but a hopefully improving situation) Nothing about the last 10 months has been normal and nothing is going to be remotely normal for a few more months at least. Between potentially permanent MLB rule changes , not knowing if minor league ball will even be played then add in the restructuring of the minors. Devs having to work from home or in an office with reduce capacity. How is delayed news not expected and accepted at this point.
Either way SDS apparently are going to be in a no win situation. So they release news and the end product doesn't end up as promised and they get flamed or they wait and people think they are hiding something.

Its wishful thinking to think that The Show 21 is going to get released when it normally does. If history is any indication, The Show (and other games) usually comes out a little later when a next gen arrives and I'd rather wait an extra couple weeks or so then to get a game with a crap load of bugs. Throw Covid on top of that and who knows how that affects the production team and what they are able to do on the job. Either way its gonna be awesome when it does finally come out!

While I don't expect a PC release this year, if ever, considering that the new consoles and PC run on the same architecture, porting shouldn't be that difficult. The question is if there's ever a PC version will it be better in terms of performance and graphics compared to consoles or not.

I still think current gen (PS4) releases on time due to license agreements. Leagues usually have timelines when games must be released.
I do believe ps5 and if any other console versions are released it will be late.
What I wonder, and I hope not, is if this generation will be like the last where they went for feature parity the 1st release?

what was weird on ps3 Show 14 and ps4 Show 14 was the ps4 didn't have the classic stadiums. but I can't remember offhand what the ps4 had that the ps3 didn't

I wouldn't be remotely surprised if they don't do half these things. If franchise stood between them and releasing the game on time, they'd release the game without franchise mode.

The 7 innings rule doesn't apply because there aren't double headers in the Show and the 2021 schedule has already been released and baseball intends to play a full 162 game schedule.
The other rules changes would be for the 2021 season only due to the ongoing pandemic. Due to how franchise mode is done (meaning continuous), I doubt they add in these "special" rules but will instead abide by the rules set forth by the agreed upon collective bargaining agreement, that the 2021 baseball season would be playing under if it weren't for the special circumstances brought about by the pandemic.
I don't foresee SDS altering code for a set of rules that will only apply to one season and then having to reverse that code for the '22 release of the game, providing none of the specials rules apply after the new collective bargaining agreement is put into place after this season.

So basically your saying no changes at all to franchise by using 2019 rules. I think
That playoff rule will change for good and DH but we can do that DH rule ourselves

It'd be great if these types of rule changes were customizable, a la NBA 2K's MyNBA. With the continued Manfredization of the league, it'd be awesome to even revert to old rules (ex. no three batter minimum). Not to mention the additional setup options MyNBA provides regarding league size, league alignment, etc..

Never played NBA 2K. When you customize your season can you change it up every off season, or once you set it up it stays the same for the duration of your franchise?

$65 Roster Update and A few Road to Show upgrades for PS4
$70 Roster Update, Few Visuals upgrades, Few Road to the Show Upgrades for PS5 and June release for PS5

He was responding to someone asking about how NBA 2K customizes seasons in franchise mode.

Sad thing is this is probably true, with lots of digital card upgrades for DD being all the ads.
I maybe have to skip this years game now that we can edit service time pretty easy to do a llb 21 roster ourselves now.

Waiting to see if this comes to the Xbox Series X this year before I buy a PS5. ( whenever possible) i know it was announced it will be coming to the Xbox but didn't say when. If not till 2022, then I will buy the PS5 just for this game as in the past I bought a PS4 just for this and GT but unfortunately my PS ID got hacked. 

Season length you can not.
But you can amongst other things:
Change draft rules
Realign divisions
Add expansion teams
Change shot clock, foul out number, and other rules similar to this.
Change number of players selected to all star teams.
That is not all inclusive but can be changed every off season.

Which is why I am not buying this years release. Will wait until 2022.

How is it late, If I'm not mistaken, February is when we have received news in the past.

In nearly every other year (including new console years), the first news, being the cover athlete, comes in October - December of the prior year. Then there’s almost always a trailer in January, with the full set of news/streams/etc. in February and March.
This year the first news isn’t coming till February. Now I imagine the first news will lead immediately into many drops of features/streams/etc. So maybe the twitch streams themselves won’t be any later than prior years, but definitely this is the latest we’ve gotten our first info in a long time.

Well all have to remember that in previous years, we weren't dealing with a pandemic either. So getting news and info a little bit late doesn't surprise me one bit

Hoping we see this on Xbox next gen. The additional revenue and audience would be great for SDS, and hopefully allow for more development each year. Fingers crossed.

This. Plus going to a new generation of consoles (and the fact that we're pluralizing it).

I think if the game is delayed to June or July that will completely suck.
by the time it gets to June or July I am usually burnt out with the game then we have trade deadlines around the corner. rosters will be a complete mess with opening day rosters etc and by the time the game is out trade deadline will be around and all the teams that are in the tank will just have a nothing roster by the time the game is out.
however if the ps4 version of the game comes out as usual at the end of March. and we can just simply wait and transfer our franchise over I see no issues.
I don't think I could take waiting midway through a season to play the game. last year the game coming out saved me from depression with no MLB till July. if this was the case I think I would just edit all service times and play mlb 2020 with updated roster that game got me through a lot of crap in March to June last year.
so I really do hope the PS4 version is on schedule. and it will be like 2014. I see no reason why it shouldn't be regardless of pandemic. no sports games have really been delayed because of it in 2020, I have learned though release dates lately mean nothing in any games movies etc and I won't believe the MLB season will even start till I see it start and believe it.
I just hope they think about giving a free update for the PS5 version if this happen. Hell even EA did that. (we had to pay twice in 2014) so my hope is that the PS4 version will be out end of march or early April at the worst. any later will be truly disappointing.
Hell I would pay for a 2020 patch that updates the uniforms and schedule just to keep me going till June and July for the wait and a simple carry over save would be perfect. this is where the carry over save would be at it's complete use.

yeah, if I can make it to June/July, then I'll just wait till the price falls to $30. besides, I've been replaying through Show 14 a lot lately and really enjoyed the trip down memory lane. I want a March release but if it winds up delayed more than a couple months I've got plenty old Show's (14-19) to fill the void

I remember the excitement of the show 14 I’m pretty sure that was the year there was like a 16 hour delay in it showing I’m the ps store back then no
Pre downloading too it was shocking that year waiting that night and it didn’t show till the next morning lots of angry people were on here me being one of them lol but I had the ps3 version keeping me going. 2014 was a great year (and great World Series for me lol)
