Madden NFL 21 Closed Beta Details: How to Get a Code, What's Available In-Game

EA has released details on the Madden NFL 21 beta. The beta will be double the size as last year, and all the info you need to know about the beta is at their official site. You can also see the key information below:

So, Where Can I Get A Code?

Good news, each player who signed up through our Good Morning Madden registration link in June were sent codes. In addition, nearly all competitors who earned MCS points last year also received a code to their MCS email address. Plus, the top 10K Ultimate Team and 10K Franchise players by actual play time were also invited to participate.

Not On The List? Don’t Worry!

There will be chances to get a code through social media including Madden Channels, Developers, Influencers, Creators, Athletes, NFL Teams and more.

Q: When does the Madden NFL 21 Closed Beta begin and end?

  1. 4 teams? This sounds more like a demo than a beta. I appreciate that I have the opportunity to play it, but in the past we never had a limit of 4 teams in the beta.

    Yeah that's disappointing

4 teams but I like the teams we get to beta test. 2 teams with pocket passers and 2 with mobile QBs.
Ravens and Bucs are 3-4 base teams
Falcons and Chiefs are 4-3 base teams.
Psyched! Going out of town for most of the weekend which is a bummer, but looking forward to trying it out. With Franchise being weak this year gameplay will have to carry the load to justify a purchase.
Who will be the first brave soul to violate whatever NDA you agreed to?
Not that it matters to me, as I have been compelled to not purchase the game this year (and with Madden 20 on PC, all I'd be buying is a graphical update, a downgrade in Franchise mode, and a new FotF interactive B-movie, which I probably wouldn't play anyway).
But, and I'm not encouraging anyone to do it, but I'm just saying, how will they know it was you? Assuming you have or make a sock puppet social media account, that is. And, of course, assuming the closed beta even comes with an NDA (but if it didn't why would it be closed?).
If there is an NDA, I'm sure someone will be posting the game all over Reddit in the next couple of days. :y1:

Could have sworn I signed up through the link but I haven’t gotten a code yet.
    Maybe I’m misremembering 🤷🏻*♂️

Same signed up as soon as they announced it

Maybe double-check your filters or spam folder - I send all my EA stuff to its own folder (because 2FA login code stuff fills up my inbox), and I had to look there to find it.
I got a code on ps4, downloading now. Not as excited with it only being 4 teams. But at least i can provide some feedback, but with only 4 teams and no franchise it won't be a long play for me.
Mine is downloading right now. This is my first beta ever. Will we be able to play online? Or is it just against the cpu?

They specified Play Now (which I assume to mean vs. CPU) and Online Head-To-Head would be in it.
Why not open the beta up and just call it a demo? Which essentially that’s what it is. Bigger player pool, easier to identify bugs. Just to clarify, not being salty because I didn’t get a code. This is a genuine question.

I spent 10min with it already. I won’t violate the NDA. Take this however you want.

That could be good or bad, lol. Madden 2004 was when Madden really started to get good, but it was also the year everyone spammed Mike Vick.
    Guessing Jackson is OP.

If anyone has a spare code I’d appreciate it. Seems like all my boys thay signed up got one besides me lol

i got one from someone in OS. i gave big kudo to him

Steve will you guys be passing codes out like in years past? I’d love a ps4 code

We did not get any codes really as of yet (minus the one for writing about the beta).

There's no NDA on giving impressions, just can't post media.
Does anyone know if you need to use your EA email address for the beta? I just realized I signed up using a different email, wondering if that's why I didnt get my code.

I wouldn’t say 2001 lol. Reminds me of a couple years back when they made players heavier. Can’t cut to the side immediately again. LBs have more weight to them. Running feels nice. Can’t move back and forth and go nuts. Have to pick a hole and go. On defense as lb you have to be decisive.
Down sides. Not a ton of new animations, man coverage isn’t good at all, and new animations seem to make defenders go crazy sometimes.
Overall it seems nicer so far.

Any plans for a beta impression thread?
I just got done playing my first game of it and so far I'm just feeling kind of meh, will have to get a few more rounds in soon.

Play Now and Head to Head Online only.

Thanks! Guess I'll wait until the demo comes out and see if they added anything additional to franchise.

I just assumed people would either use this thread for impressions or a new thread would pop up organically. I personally have no preference.
Friendly reiteration that, whichever way we end up doing, do not post any media from the beta. No screen captures, no streams, no blurry cell phone videos, no nothing.
    Played 3 games. Quick thoughts.
    Positives
New rating - Change of direction
abilities seem less overpowered as a whole. Escape artist is less deadly as is juke box. The new abilities shown seem well done
gameplay as a whole feels and looks smoother
    Pursuit angles are much better
    tackling is improved
The new reach to the marker animations are not a constant which is actually nice for a new madden feature to not be OP.
    Negatives
    Few new animations
Playbooks are mostly the same from what I remember on offense. Defense seems to have more variety
Hit stick tackles look goofy like the players have zero weight
    XtremeDunkz
Playbooks are mostly the same from what I remember on offense. Defense seems to have more variety

I wouldn't be surprised if we are using the final Madden 20 live playbooks since there's a whole blog coming up about them. The new defensive formations you see are probably from the Madden 20 live playbooks. The new formations in those playbooks you couldn't set formation subs for in franchise mode and also couldn't add to custom playbooks.
More telling, the Cowboys offensive playbook is labeled as Mike McCarthy's, but looks exactly like Jason Garrett's book which I've been using for the past decade. Gotta assume that will change as well lol.
It's obvious we aren't using final player ratings as right now they have Gronk at OVR 53 lol.
Played like 3 or 4 games over my brothers house last night. Quick impressions:
Tackling feels better but still isn’t where it should be, they need to figure out to how incorporate physics based animations.
All Pro seemed real easy and All Madden seemed hard but less cheesy.
Gameplay overall seems slower, could just be that I haven’t played madden 20 for a while.
Force defenders definitely do a better job, but pursuit angles are still bad, guys taking angles to get behind runner instead of cutting him off
Speed doesn’t seem to matter on the default speed threshold. Fast guys behind caught from behind by linemen/LBs.
CPU defenders still have poor AI. Not enough urgency in pass coverage. I had a few situations where defenders wouldn’t start tackle animations and just let ball carriers run right by them.
Running qbs seem like a threat again. Couldn’t stop Lamar, even with spies and an contain, though some of the reason was my cpu defenders wouldn’t go for tackles and just let him run right by.
Overall I would have been happy is this was Madden 20 looked at the end of the year, but it doesn’t feel like enough improvement for a game released a year later.

Yeah I'm not seeing the pursuit angles hold up when it comes to scrambling QBs. I've seen CPU Mahomes, however, make some truly incredible plays where he rolls out, draws the DBs towards him, and makes a Mahomes-esque pass on the run, and that's really fun to see.
And is anyone else experiencing lag/delays during offline/local play games, especially during field goals?

Yes it’s like 1 out of every 3 kicks were lagging when we played
Played one game so far vs the Ravens. All-Pro
It was good seeing Lamar move at first, but then it was basically most of the 4th quarter he would scramble and take off
I saw one stretch for the first down by Lamar jackson and he got it. It wactually looked organic
Not sure the adaptive AI is in the beta or how it will work but I ran the same play the entire 3rd quarter and a different same play the entire 4th quarter and didnt seem any real adjustment
Had an offensive lineman injury which was nice to see. I played a season a week or so ago with 2 teams and never had one.
I know its not a final build but I am a huge presentation guy. The wipes are horrendous. The "move the chain" and "defense" are just horrible. I dont think we would ever see anything like that during a real broadcast. Even the EA and 2 minute warning are bad. The EA one makes me laugh because its just the word Sports at first. Also, the one pregame montage had Matt Ryan on an olineman back almost like he is getting a piggy back ride is just weird.

I found a way to get a code for PS4. Please PM. It’s not illegal or anything like that, but I don’t want to take the chance of violating the TOS or put OS in a bad spot with EA.

I wish that there was a practice mode in the Beta. It's a much better testing environment than games for actually finding gameplay flaws.

I wish we we're able to play in Franchise, because the gameplay is usually always better in play now.

Yeah it's part of the pre-game "hype tape." Not gonna lie, the presentation is just brutal and an eyesore. Outrageous post-play camera angels around players, weird and ultra-video gamey screenwipes. It's just odd to look at sometimes.
Defense is definitely at a big disadvantage with the new ball carrier moves. It seems like they removed getting stuck in “juked” animations but the defenders don’t try to tackle. They really need to add contextual reach/arm tackles to make the game look right.

My thoughts excatly. I know the presentation will be limited in a BETA but the foundation is there and it is not good. More video game/ arcade looking then an actual real presentation.
    - It starts off with an aerial view of the stadium
    - then it shows Brady throwing the ball and maybe gronk catching a ball - this is all with a graphical element behind it - Almost like a a screen behind them with the Bucs logo. It does this for both teams (almost looks like WWE entrance)
    - Then it has teams in the tunnel, then back to the jumbotron animations
    - Then it shows in game action, but its Bucs vs Falcons (hoepfully this isnt in franchise mode becuase unless we played earlier in the year this would make no sense)
    - then it goes like the starting line-up poses where players flex or jump
    - then comes digital Matt Ryan piggy backing on some o-lineman and he is waving his hand.
    - The order is pretty close, as I was trying to write it down as it was happening, but things were so quick and jumping all over the place it was hard to get everything down. The jumping around from scene to jumbotron to scene is a mess. Again, maybe they are hiding trhe presentation elements (which i doubt), but it looked more like something you would see in WWE as an entrance.
I’m curious was the delay in the Beta release was so they could strip away access to other areas?
I wanted to see what AI differences there where when a better AI team is matched up against a weaker User team and vice-versa.
Look at and test out their Franchise Patch bullet points to give feedback.
How does a Franchise gamer give Beta feedback on their Mode before it’s released when it’s non-playable?
I can’t even give feedback concerning within what I would be playing.
But Online play is accessible. lol

Great word using eyesore. The swipes just dont fit in with what we see every week in the NFL.
One good thing is the user celebrations dont show up too much (only played 2 games).

I didnt get into the beta last year, but the year before we had the opportunity to play within a franchise. Makes way more sense to allow access to that. It felt more like playing a demo from a few years ago

I actually think the intro is better than it has been. Camera angles seem fine to me after plays, didn't see anything strange. The screen wipes are meh.

I'm gonna disagree on the angles. Post interceptions and big plays, the camera swooping around the players 360 is just wild to me. I'd rather have something that replicates actual views from real life football. Or at least a choice for that.
I could do without the specific styling of the screen wipes - they are pretty busy and video game-y - but I much prefer having a screen wipe vs a fade-to-black. The fade-to-black transitions the past couple Madden games have used made replays and cutscenes feel separated from the rest of the game, whereas with the wipes the whole production feels more continuous and uninterrupted.
I’m surprised no one has called out the swooping kickoff camera pan yet, lol.

I like that they changed it up & gives a different perspective. Seems boring with going with the same "TV generic style" imo. More camera views in general would be nice though. I mod the zoom gameplay camera with more zoom on PC so I'm good there when game comes out. It would be cool if they would cut to the booth like they did in the past, but those day are gone.
The presentation seems like it was worked on by the same people who worked on NCAA Football. The color splashes, the music, the pre game animations all seem ripped directly from NCAA 14

To each his own. It just takes me out of the game and reminds me I'm playing Madden and not a football sim. I can see its draw, just not for me.
How is passing?....same as last year?....smooth passing animations for short/medium/deep balls?....worried they dumbed all that down after reading the Gameplay blog

Seems to be the same, but I'll watch for that more next game.
Do AI QB’s actually intelligent this year and acknowledge the pass rush and try to get the ball away or just keep dropping back and take a sack like in years past?
Also, after plays do they go to the coach’s for the same cutscene thats been in the game for 5 years?

I would say they seem pretty smart & get rid of the ball on AM. The cutscenes work well and don't really see the coach as much, more player interactions if anything. Actually seen a coach talk with another coach/personal??? Looking over the play sheet. From time to time you'll see signs in the stands. I saw I love you mom lol.
One of the things that has been a big disappointment to me in the beta is the downfield/edge blocking logic. Had a run to the left with my FB and guard in front of me, setup for a big gain, then a LB ran right in between them. I mean the gap between them was barely bigger than the width of the LBers body. He split right between them and tackled me for a loss. They completely ignored him and just ran upfield. I have been playing NCAA 2014 on the RPCS3 emulator. It’s shocking going back to that game and seeing how much better the blocking AI is. If there is a defender between you and the endzone and an OL is in front of you, he will track that defender from 20 yards away and engage him, it’s amazing and depressing at the same time.
