Madden NFL 20 Patch 1.13 Available - Patch Notes Here

Madden NFL 20 game update 1.13 is available, check out the patch notes below and let us know what you’re seeing.

NOTE: The Madden Engineering team is currently looking into the unexpected issue with Madden Ultimate Team and Superstar KO.

Key Highlights

  • Colts WR TY Hilton has been upgraded to a Superstar X-Factor to replace former Colts QB Andrew Luck, who recently retired. Here’s a quick breakdown of TY Hilton’s abilities:
    • RAC ‘em Up – When in the zone, wins RAC catches vs. single coverage
    • Double Move Elite – Higher chance of success when running double-move routes
    • Route Technician – Quicker cuts while running routes
    • DEV NOTE: These X-Factor updates will only impact franchises created after today’s update when using the ‘Custom Roster’ option when creating the league; these changes will not impact existing Franchises.

Global Updates

  • General stability and connectivity improvements

Gameplay Updates

  • Fixed issues with the ‘Backfield Master,’ ‘Backfield Mismatch,’ and ‘Matchup Nightmare” abilities
  • Fixed a QB Scramble bug when hot routing on PA Zone Fake Jet
    • DEV NOTE: In our previous title update, we mentioned that we fixed a similar issue. There were two cases that caused the QB to enter a bad state, and the previous update only fixed one of those cases. This will fix the other known case, which is specific to the PA Zone Fake Jet set-up.

Madden Ultimate Team Updates

  • Fixed an issue causing unreadable text to appear in the ‘Seasons Progress’ bar after losing a MUT Seasons game
  • Fixed an issue causing the Mission List to be cut off when having too many items present in the MUT Hub

Superstar KO

  • General stability improvements

  1. So when Andrew Luck was the only Xfactor on the Colts offense, they have to delegate that to a player who didnt have one before he retired ? Uh... really?

    I agree. I wish they'd have these arbitrary numbers/caps.
If this offseason the Dolphins sign 8 x-factor players, then in next year's Madden the Dolphins should have 8 x-factor players.
If 5 guys retire that are x-factors and nobody is deserving of getting bumped up, I hope that we just have 5 less league-wide X-Factor players.
    ChicagoChris
I also checked my franchise and TY Hilton's new abilty did not carry over

Same. I started a Colts franchise before this update and he was listed as an X-Factor with his ability "unlocked" but the ability slot was blank.
Nothing about the disappearing kicking meter? :34:
I have to wonder if this is a design choice at this point... I mean, come on.

See, this is what makes me question xfactors in its current state. Im sure it'll evolve and get to 2K's system, but rn it seems like a front page gimmick for teams rather than making it all about progression. To me, xfactor abilities mean that your performance is at its peak compared to the rest of the team/league. I dont want the Colts to always have an Xfactor if no one deserves that xfactor. This update sounds like they were just like "eh Lucks gone who's gonna replace that xfactor number on their offense"
Edit: Am I misunderstanding this or does that make sense

    Wow, what an underwhelming patch

Agreed, and I don't use xfactors. Plenty of issues need addressing & this is kinda weak imo. I guess there is always October. I'm enjoying the game, but seems like a missed opportunity to clean things up in this update.

What is the point in doing this if it can't be updated in Franchises already going on. Only a small group of people will restart. It simply isn't worth it. I would rather they focus on things we can actually use. For example they should have focused on the kick meter and play calling for the end of the 1st and 2nd half by the cpu.

Could someone check to see if this patch fixed the Niners endzones? They should be the old school Quentin Font on with the Helmets. They were correct at launch and Update 1.10 messed them up. I'm not holding my breathe even though some Devs on twitter said they would fix this. Thanks in advance.
So this must mean that there is another patch coming out sometime this month? In a graphic they put out with the new superstar ko game mode they said there was an update coming to the scenario engine in mid Sept. That's definitely the update that I'm waiting for. I want to start a serious solo franchise but am hesitant because I don't want that update to drop and them not be able to apply to franchises already started.

I am still seeing enough fixes that makes me glad i pikced up M20. I think it is easily the best Madden.
But some of the fixes are keeping me from starting my franchse. I figure i'll just wait until the next big patch
LOL! TY gets an X Factor and the most dynamic playmaker in the league Tyreek doesn't? Ridiculous.
I remember someone asked Clint about Tyreek not having one earlier around release and he responded something along the lines of 'have you been paying attention' ... At some point people need to stop judging before people are convicted of stuff. The police didn't convict him. The NFL didn't discipline him. Who is EA to be judge and jury over someone that has been cleared everywhere else?
I am an Eagles fan with 0 ties to the Chiefs, but this is laughable. Dude is the most dynamic playmaker in the league. 100x more dynamic than TY Hilton lol. He deserves to have one.

Originally it was expected he would be suspended and by the time it became apparent that wasnt going to be the case I suspect the decisions had been made , when Luck retired and they needed to replace an X factor he would have been the obvious choice but now hes injured so .....
    Giants4Life
UGH .. so no fix on the fog of war?
Or any of the numerous bug issues in franchise?
    Pretty low grade patch

Not much too it. When you see the new patch title you get excited. Then you read what's in this patch and it leaves you wanting. Not a big deal as long as the mid september patch with scenario updates is still coming.
    TheOncomingStorm
Is that something that has been promised?

Yeah. They released a road map for september. I think it's in the 1.12 patch thread. If not it's on the madden twitter.
This update and the addition of TY as an Xfactor was to satisfy MUT players and possibly KO mode sheeple and I don't think they ever intend to figure out how to avoid restarting franchises period. These added Xfactors throughout the year are to satisfy the only crowd EA cares about. Tourney sheeple and MUT/KO sheeple

Makes since from a competitive gameplay view that all teams need superstars. Simulation doesn't need it. I don't care for the xfactors. I do like some of the superstar abilities. Just wish that it was actually tied to how good a player does something rather than being tied to their development trait.

Is it not possible that TY Hilton was #51 on their list of would-be X-Factors, and since they have a cap of 50 X-Factors on these rosters that he was just the next man up once there was an opening?

That'd work. I'd be fine with that lol
I'm not accusing them of anything. Just trying to understand why they worded it the way they did. Made it seem like there had to be another offensive x factor
I'm done talking on it though

I'm fine with them giving TY Hilton an X factor I just wish instead of capping it at 50 they would do it on a case by case basis. I wish they would sit down and decide who they truly feel is an x factor in the NFL and asign it accordingly whether that be less than 50 or more than 50 players. Personally in the future I'd like to see it go to more of like a badge system in NBA 2K.

Looks like "Glory Days Option" was enabled with this patch. Superstar Kickoff and MUT are 100% offline meaning Madden has been (temporarily) restored to how it used the good old days when franchise was the main mode!

Lets not forget that this patch was released just a couple of weeks after the September patch. I'm sure a lot of the fixes everyone is asking for will come via the October update.
Tuning for pass coverage is my main request for updates. It seems like the throwing arch fix (which was desperately needed) contributes to the defenders just staring mesmerized by the football. Having a close game decided by this or the nonsensical play calling at the end of a game can really suck the life out of this game for me.

And if we're lucky, they'll have everything fixed just around the time football season is over.
Does anyone know if we restart today is Luck still in the game? Thanks.
Also would we have the week 2 roster update or can we use the week 1 roster update for him to be gone

This is my issue with this game. I get there are bugs and glitches that every game has that need to be patched. But adding new features, like new X-Factor abilities, that require you to restart your franchise every time really makes me upset. If you're going to release a sports game yearly, have all the features in it from the very beginning, or at minimum by the first patch. Drip feeding new features throughout the year while also requiring you to start a brand new franchise each time defeats the purpose of releasing a yearly sports game. (Besides making EA more money, of course.)

I have been rolling with my franchise since early access. It doesn't do me no harm if they drop features i can't use such as new abilities. Now if they drop scenario updates and they don't apply to existing franchises, that would be a kick in the nuts.

Clint was asking today if it was still happening so I think they may have tried to do something for it that wasn't included the patch notes. It's definitely not by design, it's just one of those things that is both really difficult to figure out what triggers it and thus reproduce as well as being a franchise only issue which inherently makes it low prio.
I had it happening constantly during the beta and reported it then but have been lucky and haven't seen it once in the full game. If anybody is still seeing it following the patch, let me know and I'll pass it along.

Best Madden... but you’re waiting for them to “fix” it for you to start your franchise?
    That’s contradictory
    I'm confused.
I downloaded the patch and started a new franchise, because I wanted to see if Luck was still in the game. I selected the default preseason roster. Luck is still there and Hilton has the same abilities as before.
I'm assuming Hilton gets new abilities with a roster update. So I'm not sure what the patch is for.

I don't think already-passed Real-Life starts are going to be modified. If you do a Custom Roster start you'll go in without Luck, and if you start in Preseason week 4 or later the same thing will happen. Starting before that will have been before Luck's announcement was made, while he was still slated to be the starting QB.
Likewise, using the Offline CFM preseason 75-man will still give you Luck, but the "Use Active Roster" start will remove Luck.
TLDR - The only ways to start from the beginning of the preseason without Luck is to do a "Use Custom Roster" to start an online CFM, or "Use Active Roster" to start an Offline one.
I have started my CFM over three times. I can’t get the x under TY Hilton only the star. When I pause the game it says he is a super star not a X factor.
Under edit roster it says he’s an X factor. I don’t understand why I can’t get the x to show instead of the star

Yeah, this is kinda odd specifically regarding Hilton. I started a franchise like I mentioned above and he's labeled as an X-Factor in the depth chart, and his Zone Ability Slot is unlocked. But he doesn't have a zone ability to put in that slot. He does have two superstar abilities - Double move elite and Streak specialist.
I removed my references to Hilton in the above post unless/until I figure out what I'm missing here.

With this as the 100th season, I wanted to replicate the NFL's 75th anniversary by having throwback uniforms throughout the year; it started out great with the classic endzones, and it really sucks to have the new (well, old, now) endzones instead of the classic font. The classic endzones really added to the atmosphere, for me. So thanks again!

When 49ers OL Anthony Davis retired in preseason a few years ago, they removed him from the default preseason roster in a patch.
No biggie. I had already started my franchise pre-patch and I'm sticking with it. I was just curious if they had removed Luck like they did Davis.
I feel like such a fool for buying Madden this year! Franchise is a joke, you still cannot see what your edited players rating is after you edit them. How are they having so many bugs this year? Wasn’t this supposed to be the year without any bugs? It’s an animation based game with no physics! No attention to detail (Madden 19 banners still out).
If EA is hoping these kids will be invested into Madden like we were they are sadly mistaken! These kids today don’t know what a good football game (2K5) is and will instead be satisfied with mediocrity until they bankrupt their parents bank account with MUT money!

Not exactly but mostly. RB Powell was a FA when the game shipped on preseason roster. He signed late June. After roster updates he’s on the Jets on the preseason roster.

At this point; I’m just going to start a franchise with X factors off. It seems fun until they become out of hand within the game.

Where do u turn it off
I'm going to start my franchise after they add the return specialist and add more scenarios. I don't want to keep worrying about having to start over franchise Every time they add something new in

I assume my rookies will still show 0 snap counts in my franchise....

I gave up on my off-line franchise because of that snap count issue, but I can verify that snap counts do progress in on-line franchises.

Still seeing CPU run out the half in FG range instead of attempting a kick. How is this still a problem after 30 years of Maddens?

Because little if any testing is done in house against the cpu. It is all human vs human online. Whoever wrote this legacy code years ago could not have been football savvy. It's brutal...and frustrating.

I think this is dead on. I try to use time outs for CPU whenever possible as a workaround, but sometimes I'm even not quick enough.
For instance, at the end of the first half, The Redskins had 13 seconds left and no time outs, with the ball at my 12. The CPU picked a run, rather than take a shot at throwing to the endzone. Therefore, gameplanned situational playcalling is part of the issue. However, it was a quick run for only 2 yds, with no receivers releasing on routes. IRL, while it would have been close, they could have clocked it with a couple of seconds left. I lost track of time and when CPU tried to clock it, time ran out.
This is only one of many examples. Unfortunately, I've heard nothing to the affect that this issue is going to be addressed. I'd rather have the break from huddle animation returned than this. I've finally got my sliders right and am enjoying the game, but CPU clock management issue is really game-breaking at times. Disappointed that's it been swept under the rug thus-far.

I just had a game where the computer was down three with the ball at their own 30 with no timeouts and 50 seconds left down 3. The called a quick slant and then a run play which left them with around 8 seconds and they called another short passing play. Never even crossed midfield smh.

Anyone that is annoyed about Luck being on the roster in CFM there's a simple fix. Sign him, change him to a punter, lower his punter stats and release him. No team will sign him and you'll receive all your money back with no penalty.
New here, not sure if this is the right thread for impressions...
Purchased the game used yesterday. Higher end 4k HDR tv. Xbox One X. Game is up to date. All-Pro, Simulation, default settings. Through 3 games played:
The intro video in the game is very grainy (like last year) on my 4k tv. I'm not even sure the intro video is in 1080p to be honest, it looks that bad.
My visual setting do not stay as set in options, each time I start a Play Now game, I have to go back into setting to set them again.
I cant seem to get rid of the swoosh noise every time the ball is thrown - had to turn sounds volume down to about 25.
I have visual feedback setting all turned to off, but I keep getting the pass type thrown displayed on my screen, it does this for the CPU as well.
I cannot turn off the Superstar and X-factor junk during a Play Now game! If ratings really matter and players play to their abilities, then why do we need this gimmick?
I choose weather before the game as Clear, yet the sky is cloudy.
The players and the football both disappear through the endzone.
Fans in the crowd wear jersey numbers that nobody on the team wears. Also if you select anything other than the default uniform the fans all seem to wear #0.
There is little to no anti-aliasing used in the game.
The lighting is brighter than last year, but everything is flat and cartoony looking (especially the crowd).
    Players have no sideline awareness.
I suppose the rush to the line of scrimmage (I knew about this before getting the game) is good for some people, but it should be included only in the "Quick presentation" option one can select before game.
The game speed options are gone (I knew about this before getting the game too) but it seems too fast for me. A run up the middle that gains 2 or 3 yards is nothing but a bunch of players clipping through each other and arcade grunt sounds. Way too fast and I wonder why game speeds were removed.
The score overlay is too thick and is not transparent at all like previous years. It takes up too much screen real estate. The paint strokes are atrocious.
The challenge system is still useless.
Refs are gone! Yet there are literally over 100 identical cameramen on the sidelines!
After most plays, the ball carrier gets up from the ground and continues to carry the football.
Often times the replays don't follow the ball, as in the camera lags behind.
In the practice field there is a big glass building that constantly flashes (glitches) in the background, this was there last year as well.
As has been pointed out - there are banners in the practice field that still read "Madden 19".
There is no halftime or postgame show of any sort.
Fireworks are shown after exhibition game touchdowns.
Sometimes when the ball is tipped it travels 20+ yards.
I typically control the D-line and with all visual feedback turned off, I keep getting a bubble over the D-lineman head with feedback.
In the standard view cam when I bring the cam back with LT for pre-play adjustments and to look at matchup ratings, it is always cut off for the receiver lined up furthest to the right and I cant see the speed and height plus/minus.
Users still cannot attempt to pump up the crowd on defense by flicking the right stick up!
There is so much clipping in this game, pre-play, in-game, post-play, more than any Madden before it. Players clipping through each other constantly.
Players on field have a jittery robotic walk.
When returning a punt, often times as in Maddens past, all of the options are return left.
The CPU AI before the half and late game is dumb, very dumb. On All-Pro.
The commentary is bad. Its repeating lines from Madden 18 even.
The tee that the ball is kicked off from is missing on some kick offs. So, the ball is floating above the grass.
The game still uses generic advertising around the stadiums, meanwhile they have brand name advertising in game already. Yet, some generic thing like Titanium Sparkplugs instead of Gatorade, Nike, Adidas, etc is shown all around the stadiums.
The game has ZERO physics! I've noticed each game of Madden since Madden 13 that the physics have slowly disappeared until Madden 20 and now they are completely removed. I have read some impressions that claim this is the best playing Madden ever. Maybe those people just watch CPU vs CPU from broadcast cam, but I feel as I have no control over the players as everything is canned and animation based, there are no physics at play here, no momentum or weight.
On a positive note, through the few games I played - I did not see the kicking meter disappear as many have been complaining about. Also, the PA announcer is vastly improved.
I can keep going, but I'll stop. Everything I did list in my impressions in completely true and verifiable, its mostly not subjective. I hope this helps any potential buyers that are still on the fence about this game: Stick with Madden 19 or even better no football game, trust me!
If it sounds like I'm negative on the game, its because I am. I cant find a way to enjoy the game at all. I am glad I purchased it used so my purchase doesn't count towards a sale for EA sports.
I have purchased 4 other games in the past year: Gears 5, RDR2, MK11, NBA 2k20. Let me tell you, those games are AAA titles, Madden 20 is not even close to being in the same class.
Post patch blocked 3 fgs on all pro. Never came close before.
Also the innacurte pass seems too absurd now. My qb standing in the pocket not moving all time in the world and the cpu decides to throw it 10 ft to the other side of the wr.

Lol, that's all I'll say. Wow. Some of the things that you're claiming or griping about
I'll let someone else who has time address what they want to.
But to compare this to NBA 2k20? The same game that had Twitter trending to #fix2k20? Again, lol

Should see the return ability and scenarios added this week. I really want to start my Franchise. But now Im thinking if I should wait until October update just incase they add something that can't go into existing saves.
I might just say whatever and just start it this week. I don't want to keep waiting and worrying about starting over

You guys might be a bit harsh. lol Look, I dont disagree with anything the poster said about what HE noticed. Everyone judges their purchase to his/her own standard and really nothing that he said above is lying. In a time where a good majority of sports related video games are "figuring it out" and making a good experience OVERALL, Madden has consistently been inconsistent. I could go on and on but at a bare min, they have released how many patches thus far? The main features they endorsed are broken and in the case of offensive moves they simply just dont do thier moves to be competitive vs OOTB. Couple that with $59.99 price tag and he is unhappy. Makes sense.
Oh and before the whole cyber/coding crew jumps in to remind me of the strenuous difficulty of coding and programming I will stop you. Being in the community myself, and more importantly HIRING said professionals on a daily basis, I dare you to go onto EA's website and look at their very rigid hiring qualifications. That is BEFORE they start the interview process. In terms of corporate, they get who they want and the price they want and these are literally the best of the field as long as they didnt BS on their resume. So the problems we are having we shouldnt. I also, on the flip side, understand what the REAL problem is with these patches. This is ultimately the result of Corporate nonsense. This game should have been scrapped and recoded from the ground up a looooooooong time ago and instead they add onto a crap legacy, making great adjustments, only to take two steps back by revealing a legacy coding issue that is present when fixing something else. Thats what this dev team has to deal with. EA Corp has gotten way to big for its own good and while I applaud the dev team for essentially attempting to shine up West Baltimore (Madden analogy)the mere fact its already ruined and you gotta scrap the whole mess and start anew. Find the infinity gauntlet and snap the this antiquated mess away along with the staff holding it back...or be passed up by a football game who will one day have the capital and the motivation to compete.

The bugs, lack of detail, and lack of care present in Madden 20 is not the equivalent of one blade of grass - it is the equivalent of half my yard.
I love football and this is the only football game available. Football fans deserve better than this.
The point of me finding all of these things I listed after only my initial 3 games (and there is much more now that I have played a cpl more games) is that: these lack of details were either previously available in Madden or available in a competitors game 15 years ago. You compare them to an insignificant blade of grass, so these simple little details should be able to be cleaned up very easily, however they're not, they never are.
I am confident EA does not have in house testers and instead relies on the kids that play MUT on YouTube and this is the result.

A little disappointed. Thought we had a patch coming on Tuesday since “Mid Sept” was the announced date for updates.

I'm still trying to figure out their definition of "mid September" this is why giving a time frame is bad.

Same here. Just waiting for the scenario engine updates and kick return skills that were promised. Really want to start my real franchise, already finished week 17 of the test CFM so can’t really continue there, Matt10 sliders are dialed in nicely to start with, just sitting here waiting for the Mid Sept update and I guess the new roster comes Friday which will save some edits too.

Yeah, I feel the same as everyone else who was expecting 1.14 this week. If it's not out tomorrow or Friday, but instead is out on the 24th, their road map will then have to be viewed with a serious side eye.
I know of course why it that way, but it doesn't help that 99% of Kraelo's timeline is filled with MUT info. My Kingdom for some Gameplay or Franchise news.

Gotcha. Watching it now. Highlights are tackling improvements, Superstar KO updates, dev trait update for Franchise, general stability updates, and Browns uniform update.
So no "Living League Scenarios" I guess...

You do need to restart to get the hidden dev trait count fixed. The notes say they will fix it for existing franchises in a future update.

I really don't want to start over again.. does anyone know the extent of the bug? Does it happen to all players, some, random? Will future draft players have this issue?
Does it kill a CFM in progress because it resets on all players?

I've personally never had the snap count issue. But I started my CFM with the preseason rosters (the big, default one, whatever it's called), so I don't know if that made a difference or not.
