I can see this being a big hit with kids.

Aaaaaand this is where I have no faith in this game/dev team. If monetizing is frowned upon, they gotta pull in some other gimmick to get kids to buy this. Not to mention the pic on Twitter says its a free trial for now, whatever that means...
The Deep Dive/article about it on the EA site reads like one of those commercials where there's a bunch of bikini models and car crashes and clowns and a dude on a horse and a massive battle between 2 barbarian armies, and then at the last moment, you realize they're advertising dish soap.
Not something for me, but before folks start getting their usual jabs in at the Dev Team/game, this is just “Squads” rebranded similar to 2K MyCourt that seemed to be received very well by that community in spite of its ongoing issues.
    - not as customizable as the BBall Courts though
Naturally though, this is Madden so “everything” done will be dissected down beyond overkill vs simply saying “not for me” and moving on.
A lot of people here will probably not like that game mode, and that is fine. I'm sure the massive amount of kids that play this game will love it, however.
This mode is not for me, it's definitely geared at drawing in the younger more casual gamer crowd. I know it's probably going to catch a lot of hate on these forums but from a marketing standpoint I can see why they are introducing a mode like this. The attention spans of the younger generation are getting shorter so this mode will probably provide quick, cheap fun for the crowd it's aimed at.

Maybe if Madden had a realistic and deep franchise mode, things like this wouldn't get such scrutiny.
EA announced alongside the new mode drop that there's more franchise mode support coming to the game later this month.
Beyond that, let's keep this thread focused on discussing the new game mode, please and thank you.

My favorite part was the global free trial. Sounds like something that's gonna require payment to do.

From ea_kraelo on Twitter (I can’t post the link):
“I am seeing some confusion out there around #SuperstarKO. Let me provide some clarification.
    1. #SuperstarKO is a free to play mode.
    2. Madden will be free to play this coming weekend (Global Free Trial)”

    Where did they say this?

That clears it up. Also it's pretty nice to do a free weekend for those still on the fence about buying.

    Where did they say this?

    From the title notes itself:
    New Superstar Kick Return Ability
Return Man: Players with this ability can quickly shift momentum and change directions without sacrificing speed on kick and punt returns.
This ability is currently available in Play Now, but will not be available in Ultimate Team until mid to late September and added to Franchise very soon in an upcoming title update.

and also this image from Madden Ultimate Team's Twitter feed indicating an upcoming update for Franchise mode regarding scenarios:

I hadn't seen the note about the scenarios. It is nice to see that they are adding some.
I think you're reading into the other quote a bit though. The only thing that quote is talking about is the returner ability being added to franchise. That's not really a franchise update.

What I'm reading into, what I'm not reading into, or what counts or doesn't count as Franchise post-launch support isn't the point.
The original complaint was about the lack of Franchise updates in a thread discussing a game mode which is completely separate from and having nothing to do with Franchise. I posted the announcement of upcoming Franchise updates to end that line of discussion because Franchise mode has nothing to do with Superstar KO mode. It's off-topic for this thread.
If you want to complain about Franchise mode, there are plenty of other places to do that. We are going to let this one single thread - a thread about a brand-new game mode delivered post-launch at no charge to end-users - exist without any further discussion of Franchise mode.
    Thanks.

Wait, your original thread starting post was changed by somebody else? Wow.

Steve_OS, the guy who runs Operation Sports, converted this thread into a front-page news post item about the release of Superstar KO mode, as he normally does when there's newsworthy forum topics.

OK, was the originator of the thread made aware? That probably would have removed his confusion.
    Thx for the explanation.
Hmm is it a coincidence that they drop this new mode and free weekend right when nba 2k launches? I think not and its nice to see some competitiveness. Its good for madden improving in the future.
Man, I'm not going to lie I am feeling this because IMO the arcade action and playstyle is where this team does its best work.
Hopefully the game mode is not locked behind PS Plus if you (own the game and) want to just play solo. I've been too cheap to buy PS Plus lol.

I believe it does require PS Plus

Mode isn’t for me and I definitely would have preferred the time spent elsewhere.

While I do agree with you (my personal preference would be some HUGE additional mode or feature for Franchise), I also was hoping that this year Madden would have reintroduced NFL Street into the game (like what Live, Fifa and NHL have done) because I think that a pure arcade mode would make the most of Tiburon's talents. I miss the NFL Street games they made. Hopefully this is a foreshadowing of NFL Street returning for Madden 21.

Yup, just confirmed...mode is online only through PS4...you need Plus.
But maybe Plus won't be required this weekend (only). Maybe I can try it then?
Too bad (for me at least lol).

I'm not aloud to talk about my feelings about the first half of what you wrote, but I will say that Madden seems to follow Fifa's lead and Fifa added street soccer this year. Madden was a year behind Fifa with RPM and the story mode (journey/long shot) and it's reasonable to think they're at least considering adding NFL Street to a future game, possibly Madden 21.

That might be what it meant. Idk. They worded it weird about madden being a free mode this weekend. Or something like that

So this is maddens first attempt to compete with 2ks Mypark huh. I wish this was 3 on 3 flag football with myplayers but, this is better than nothing.
For what it is it looks fun, about time they atleast try to add something fun into the game.
It looks fun. Getting NFL Street/Tour vibes honestly.
Good to see EA doing something like this adding a new mode into the game post release.

I’ll try it out for sure.
This is unlike EA. Usually for a mode like this they sell it as another game for $60.
I wouldn’t have minded an NFL Blitz copy as well.
    Will try it out tonight.
It looks cool. Might be fun thing to do when the crew is over. I’ll try it why not. But.... kinda sucks to see those sweet custom uniforms and stadium. But can’t get that for CFM 🤷*♂️ eh what ya gonna do right? Haha

I think my biggest gripe with ultimate team is the constant grind and money grab in order to stay competitive. I’m a big offline and online franchise mode guy but do have the competitive itch to play some games but get frustrated when facing a 500 dollar team. They have the draft version of MUT which helps even things out. But Even on MUT squads. A month in and I’m forced to play as a head coach with my friends because my team doesn’t compete with others. This however, provides a competitive/fun game mode that requires zero money spent or grinding and can be enjoyed with friends. While it isn’t a franchise upgrade, this addition should be appreciated by those against ultimate team. I’ll go ahead and give EA props for this 1.

Tried it tonight , played 5 games. Really didnt get the appeal. Seems like it could be deeper. I was tired after a long day of work so will try it again on the weekend when I'm more relaxed.
I played a few games when I got off work. Probably wont go back to it. It was just something different. Wasnt all that fun

Does anyone know how to get the game for the free play weekend? I'm not quite sure how to download it.
I downloaded the free trial but it says I need EA Access Subscription.
Additions like this are fine when the game has peaked and they are running out of ways to improve the game...but the series is still far from that stage. There’s so much that needs to be done esp in Franchise to start using resources for things like this.
What makes this even more of a shot to the gut is that this seems like a thing that would use some people that could be working on Franchise additions. There’s so many changes that mode needs that have gone untouched for over a decade.

As far as franchise goes, i am afraid the game peaked a long time ago.

Have to be a XBox Live Gold/PSN Plus member. If you subscribe to one of those you should be able to download/install the game for free.
I'm on XBox and was not a Gold member but there was some special going on for XBox Live Gold for 2 months for $2 so I did that and was able to take advantage of the Free Play Weekend.
I sometimes watch Twitch and Mixer and seems like half of the videos on there are this KO mode.
I guess EA knew what they were doing releasing this mode. Seems like it's popular w/ the younger crowd.
