Madden NFL 19 Patch 1.18 Available - Patch Notes Here

Madden NFL 19 game update 1.18 has arrived, featuring some gameplay updates, specific to alignment issues in playbooks, tuning for pass accuracy and throw power, special teams tweaks, new logic in pass coverage and more.

Franchise Updates

  • Addressed an issue with mouse selection not functioning throughout the Customize Your Season flow after continuing from a Play Now game

Gameplay Updates

Playbooks

  • Fixed an issue that allowed users to get players in unrealistic alignments via audibles that was being used as an exploit

Tuning

  • Increased the Passing Accuracy and Throw Power penalties when wildly dropping back, very far behind the line of scrimmage, and throwing across the QB’s body

Special Teams

  • Improved kickoff trajectory to avoid kickoffs that are difficult for the returner to successfully catch or recover in a reasonable amount of time
  • Removed any chance at a kick block if the Jump Snap mechanic on defense is mistimed to be early on Competitive and Simulation Game Styles (this will prevent defensive users from spamming the button until the snap)

Pass Coverage

  • Added new logic for Cover 4 Quarters to better handle vertical routes from Trips formations when the #3 receiver (closest receiver to line of scrimmage) is in a detached alignment
  • Added coverage logic for the Deep Half Safety in Cover 6 to prevent him from matching vertical routes being ran by inside receivers
  • Adjusted coverage logic for Seam Flat defenders in Cover 3 Match so that they properly match wheel routes that are run by a receiver aligned in a slot position

Blocking

  • Fixed an issue causing a TE in a wing or fullback position on certain HB Toss plays to target defenders on the backside of the formation

Madden Ultimate Team

  • The previous Huddle tab will be renamed “Competitive”, and taken over with Madden Championship Series content, including the streaming schedule and the Gameday Program, which has competitive-themed offers, like unique Club Championship uniforms and competitor coaches.

  1. Oh good, looks like nothing earth-shattering (though I has hoped they might do updates for the offensive playbooks like they did the defensive ones in the last patch). Game has been playing really well, so not too surprised to see minimal changes.
    I like that coincidentally every update has come out while I'm in the pre-season of my Franchise. It lets me observe the changes and experiment without worrying about losing a game.
    Love that pass coverage is always getting worked on. I expect there to be some unlisted tweaks, but I'll see when I get home this evening.
    I'll take it. I like the incremental updates to coverage logic and the fixes to small things this late in the cycle. The chances of something major going sideways are greatly diminished when they don't try to get too fancy with patches at this time of year.

    Just played 2 games and the receivers drop a lot more passes now. I’ve had them drop at least 7 passes open with no contact over the middle,deep balls and curl routes
    Was hoping they would finally allow us to choose the specialty playbooks (spread, run n gun, etc) as our coach defaults in CFM instead of having to manually select them before every game.

    Man this would be awesome. Sucks but they took out the run n gun. Still got the run and shoot generic book too. Really wish they’d a left this in. Generic books are very underrated. Especially the defensive one. Seem to see more pressure form dline with generics. Could just be slider setup and roster though. Using generics with all-time rosters in play now. Really like how the cpu AI uses them.

    The updates are getting smaller, which means EA is about to transition the dev team over to development on Madden NFL 20

    They need to hire more devs, they have ALOT of work to do. We better see some of Duece's implementations in 2020.

    Just played 2 games and the receivers drop a lot more passes now. I’ve had them drop at least 7 passes open with no contact over the middle,deep balls and curl routes

    I've lost touch with Madden 19 because there is no current fix for receiver sideline/endzone awareness and aggressiveness. They literally are oblivious on balls that are in front of them. My 'guess' is that the true-step change this year is the culprit. I do like the run game and some of the rosters guys are doing (like Capa), but I've taken a break. Will load this up and see what happens.

You can have 2,000 workers on your dev team but if the suits say A,B, C don't make us money, by X does, so focus strictly on X. Then guess what ? They strictly going to work on X and just try to fix A, B, C through patches.
    Been that way for years now with EA, not just with Madden, but all their sports games. Even their mighty FIFA series have fallen victim to it in recent years.

    I am probably one of Maddens biggest critics. And I have purchased every madden game produced. I agree, There are many issues that still need fixed. But I also agree after the patches, This is the best Madden I have enjoyed. It sure didn't come out of the box that way.
    I can't speak for the Thumb Jockey's. I only play Off-line franchise and PTM. But it's the first time I have actually been able to play every game using PTM and not have it freeze up on FG's or other unknown reasons. With M17 and M18 I could barely make it through any game without a lockup of some kind.
    So this alone is a huge huge plus for me. I'm not afraid to start a game and I can get in and out and continue to play. Sure. Still have hesitation on KO and Punt returns. Still have shanked punts now and then and a few to many blocked FG and punts. But with good slider settings, some Trait editing. I can get basic fundamental fun and exciting FB games.
    Of-course there are plays that make me scratch my head and ask why on earth would they do that. And other plays that make me stand up and shout OOHHHHH YEAAAA.. So all in all I am pleased with M19, and enjoy playing it. But there is always room for improvement. Hopefully EA is on the right track..

    I've gotten in 3 games in CFM post-patch. No slider adjustments necessary for me, which is a first, and the game is humming. I'm super happy.

    Madden 2 player is always pretty good. The major problem is human against cpu and online with default rosters! Too much cheese and unrealistic gameplay. The All- Madden level is either too difficult for most and too unstable for others!

    Since this update, when I'm on offense my three play selection windows sometimes just randomly start scrolling by themselves sometimes causing me to pick a play I don't want.
    I'm on PS4
    I was in the playoffs when this patch came through and after finishing the super bowl I was looking at my players to advance and my backup center had 99 skill points to use. No idea what caused that and had never seen it before.

    Zero injuries are showing up in CPU vs CPU games even with the setting at 100

    Not only have the in game injuries been reduced as a result of the last patch or two, but the sim engine injuries are down as well...

    I dont see injuries being reduced. I had seven players hurt at once for one team i play and six on the other i play.

    This game (unfortunately) has soooooo many variables and cross connections, that even though I'm using the same settings that USED to trigger injuries, now those same settings don't...

    For the sake of round numbers, I played a full season pre patches 16 / 17 that engendered the "desired" ballpark injury totals in both played and simmed games...
    Then, I played nearly a full second season after patches 16 / 17 with the exact same settings and it rendered about 25% of those previous totals...
    Now, I'm a handful of games in a third season with patch 18 and that 25% is now down to about 10% of the original numbers...
    Looks like cdcool is having a similar issue and Rayzaa is not, which is typical of this series...

    I would say at a minimum of two weeks of games no injuries, I thought they were happening but they were not, only IR players are on the injured list.

    Well, I am lol.
    Last two games I lost a WR in each game for 4 weeks.
    I'm seeing injuries during games I play. I think the issue some are having are with the CPU vs CPU simmed games?
    I haven't verified yet if the CPU teams are getting injuries in simmed games but I'll keep my eye open.

    I only play CPU vs CPU and no injuries now, there was before
    Has anyone seen the freezing during an online game after a player gets injured? Very frustrating and it causes disputes on whether to replay the game over.

    Just played my first snow game since this latest patch, and something wild happened to my kicker.
    I missed every single kick! 3 XPs and 2 Field goals. All 5 kicks went straight right about even with the line of scrimmage. Total shanks like he almost missed the ball. Would have been cool if it happened once or something since it was a weather game, but ended up feeling pretty stupid since it was every kick.
    Kickoffs and punts were fine, and the CPU kicker had no problems.

    I can also confirm I played a game last night in my existing Raiders CFM, and I had injuries occur both to my team and the CPU team. I lost one of my Guards for a little while with bruised ribs (I chose that he should rest and that I wanted to use my backup, but he did come back on the next drive). That injury to my Guard happened during a live play. The CPU team had a worse one, they lost their QB for the whole game and their backup came in to play instead. That injury happened to the CPU during a play I was super-simming.
    I have only palyed one game with the new patch, but injuries were still there for me.
    (offline CFM, PS4 Pro, game installed from disc, all patches up to date)

    Ughhh, this was a glitch in the game last year that had to be patched. The shanked kick would veer wildly off to the side, it looked ridiculous.
    Since I was playing a CFM as the Pats at the time, snow games were not too uncommon in the post season, and I HATED this bug.
    I would always super sim my FG's because of it.
    If this glitch has returned it will be really dissapointing.

    Cool thanks. I've never done that before but will if my two teams implay both make it the SB so I don't have to play just one which I think is more fair. Too badwecant control both teams like we used to in previous Madden's. Not a shock they took something good away again lol.
    Essentially, this is what bothers me most about the game, and one of the few deal breakers for me ever. No effort on receiver's part. Right play called against this particular d formation. I've labbed over and over.

    Also his plays ball in air trait, for recievers not attacking the ball this is the trait I believe is the biggest culprit when they fail to attack the ball on 50-50 throws

    Has anyone else seen a marked improvement in the AI run game since the last patch? In my most recent franchise season I gave up a few 100 yard rushing games, and these were the first I surrendered to the AI (5-6 min quarter games, no run off) all year.
    WR were also occasionally killing me with ball carrier moves when they really didn't do that before.

    Yep, trying to switch between defensive players sometimes dont work. Only switches between two of them. Trying to rush my DEs and they dont move or just stutter. It's gotten worse.
    Thanks for the effort EA. It was a weak one. Caring more about MUT is going to be your downfall. Im out till you apply things that Duecd laid out. You have the blueprint, use it!

    Right, caring more about MUT has nothing at all to do with franchise play going downhill. Most see it, if you don't, that's on you. They care where the money rolls in and that's been stated in here. The suits rule.
    Game play issues are separate from Duece's CFM blueprint.
    They are two different areas of the game.
    For example, there is a MUT team, a game play team, a CFM team, etc.... and they all answer to people above them, just practically like everyone else in the working field.
    Suits rule in every business that is for profit, they want to make profitable earnings for their companies and stockholders. It's no different in the video game world vs widgets vs farming vs McDonalds.
    And we are drifting away from the topic of the thread.
    Hope you find some changes in 20 for you.
    Let me just say that I forgot that I already posted in this read about the issues with my defensive ends or defensive line not being able to move so it does look repetitive and I apologize for that.
    However I do hope that the implement a lot of different and new things in 2020 but I'm not expecting it.
    And it is my right to not buy the game again til I see fixes and changes. I never buy the game every year anyway but I will in 2020 if there are big changes I just don't expect it and sorry but I do think MUT is more important to them no matter if there are seperate teams for each.
    I don't see anyone here trying to tell you how to spend your money. Best thing to do if you are disappointed is speak with your wallet.
    Also, just trying to let you know how the game is processed.
    I don't think anyone disagrees with you on the direction of the game.

    I agree with this. The biggest issues I have are the horrible RPM that only applies to the ball carrier and the really horrible looking canned tackles. IMO this game took a huge step backwards and I regret wasting the time and money, especially when I thought after the last patch 18 was awesome.

    As fans we've supported the game for decades, and we sure are met with a lot of excuses and shilling for simply wanting a quality product :confused:

    As soon as the executives allow the game to be made with sim fans ideas and suggestions and allow the developers to make that game, sim fans will be in a better place.
    I haven't seen that happen for those decades past and I don't see it happening for decades moving forward unless the executives start allowing it to happen.
    Despite it's flaws I was having a good time with this version until this last patch. Now the cpu can't score. Did they break the cpu offense? What's going on with this thing?

And Rex said that EA doesnt care about us, and they dont want them to fix the game for us or spend the time to do what we want because that isnt where the money is. Now the bolded isnt word for word but that was the jist.
    I was going to copy the link and post it here but i accidently refreshed the page and it was gone and i dont remember who the post was from. Ive tried to find it again and havent had any luck but he showed the message from Rex.

    Looks like were are (me included) driving this thread away from the thread topic.
    Rex relocated to the Colorado area(probably after receiving a job offer) and is obviously working for a mobile gaming company.
    Another for CD(Creative Developer like Rex was) has worked in mobile gaming since then as well.

    Not to derail the thread any further, but it couldn't have been as bad if he would be willing to go back to EA the company. Rex is a good dude & I know he had some things in store for the simheads.

    Well first, this thread is about 1.18. not much to say and we aren't getting another patch so this has runs it's course.
    Second, did you see the second link? He left EA because they don't care about fixing the game, so why he is in CO working elsewhere is telling about EA. When you aren't happy with an employer not letting you do what you feel.is needed, you move on.

    That's a administrators/mods decision, not ours. We can't just dump or vent in any thread we feel like.
    I didn't need to see the second link, I saw it live on Twitter, and I already knew this before Rex relocated. The executives don't feel fixing the game should take precedent over shiny new features and is not a back of the box feature to sell. It's very telling how EA treats the game over the past decade, not just under Rex's direction.
    People leave companies every day for a myriad of reasons. And like Mil stated in another tweet, Rex would come back to the company under the right circumstances.
    There is a ton of people turnover in software, hard to keep up at times.

    Not to derail the thread any further, but it couldn't have been as bad if he would be willing to go back to EA the company. Rex is a good dude & I know he had some things in store for the simheads.

    IF be goes back I guess we'll see. But anybody would go back to a company they left if they changed their ways and making it the right circumstances.
    But right now he dont like their ways and they may not ask him back til the sales drop too much for their liking and people telling them why they aren't buying it.
    It's the same thing as us deciding not to buy it again til they change their ways of making it.
