How to Throw a High Pass in College Football 25

Different types of passes are required if you want to excel on offense in College Football 25. Whether you need to throw a Bullet Pass to squeeze a ball into a tight window or throw a Lob Pass to hit a receiver in stride, knowing how to throw the different passes with your quarterback is crucial information. While most players in College Football 25 know the three standard pass types, another is perhaps the most important: the High Pass.

High Passes are another form of a Lob Pass, as they tend to be slower and aim to throw the ball over a defender’s head. However, the difference between a High Pass and a Lob Pass is that a High Pass is intentionally thrown high so a receiver can jump for the ball instead of waiting for it to come to them. Unfortunately, the menus in College Football 25 don’t do the best job of explaining how to throw a High Pass, so allow me to explain a little further.

Luckily for you, a High Pass can be thrown very easily once you know the controls to throw it. It’s very similar to throwing other types of passes in College Football 25, but one clear distinction makes it different from a standard lob pass, which you can read about in more depth in our previous guide about Lob Passes.

For a High Pass, you want to follow these steps:

  • When your offense is lined up and you’re ready to hike the ball, look around at your receivers to get an idea of what buttons they have over their heads.
  • Hike the ball when you’re set and then survey the field to find the receiver you want to throw to.
  • When you find the right receiver, hold LB/L1 and then quickly tap the receiver’s icon.
  • You want to make sure that you’re holding LB/L1 before you tap your receiver’s icon. You also want to ensure that you’re quickly tapping the receiver’s icon, as pressing it for too long will initiate either a standard pass or a bullet pass
  • If you pressed the right buttons, you’ll throw a lob pass, but one that has a higher arc than a standard lob pass. This allows your receivers to jump up and grab the ball rather than sailing it to them as they’re running down the field.

While a High Pass isn’t classified as a different type of pass, there is a noticeable difference between a High Lob Pass and a standard one. A standard one doesn’t have nearly as much air underneath it, meaning you have to place the ball perfectly, or else it might get picked off. With a High Lob Pass, though, you put more wind under the ball and allow it to go slightly farther while maintaining a higher arc for longer.

The best time to use the High Pass in College Football 25 is when you’re targeting a taller receiver or you need to high-point a ball so it has less of a chance at getting picked off. Taller receivers benefit the most from higher passes since you can jump up higher with them and catch balls that are still coming down from their arc. You can also use the High Pass to get more air under a ball and get it past a defender who’s chasing your receiver down the sideline or across the field.

Basically, once you understand how to throw High Passes and how they differ from standard Lob Passes, you’ll start to learn when and where the right time to throw them. Of course, as lob passes are inherently slow, you want to ensure you throw them sparingly, as they always have a higher chance of getting intercepted, especially if you’re using a quarterback with a lower arm strength rating.

That’s all we have on throwing High Passes in College Football 25. You can also read our guide on how to throw bullet passes if you need some speed over ball placement.
