I thought it was just me having this problem.
Pre download never worked and now there's a download button for it in my library but you click it, some screens cycle, but no download starts.

Purchased the Deluxe Edition with the pre release discount at Steam. Downloading now as as I post this.
I bought the original P Cars a long time ago but did not have a decent PC that could handle it until recently so I’m just now getting into this series. I enjoyed that sim so this should be fun.

A Slightly Mad game with bugs at release? Knock me over with a feather.
It's more of a shock if SMS releases a finished game without a game-crippling bug, which it will deny for two weeks despite clear evidence and then take another two weeks to issue a patch.
My game started to download on my PS4 Pro but when I would put it into rest mode it would stop. When I turned the console back on it said error couldn't download. I then hit resume then it started from it's last point. So I'll be leaving my console on til it finishes. *UPDATE* Okay it did stop downloading after a bit even with leaving the console on. I hit resume again & it started DL from the last spot. Guess I'll have to keep restarting it when it stops. Sucks for sure.
Would encourage the controller users to at least give the default DS4 settings a try - I feel like they're much improved over the default in PCARS 1.
Have fun guys - I can play one course with one car until the game fully downloads, and that won't be until sometime tomorrow. So I'll hold off on impressions until I can really put some time in with it.
Yeah I woke up early assuming the game would be completely downloaded but it didn't auto download so I'm waiting, 35 minutes left. I did run the one available track with the one car , all I'll say about that is I hope it's a crap handling car because I can't keep it in a straight line. Put it this way , if this one car and track were a demo there's no way I'd buy this game. Can't really come to a conclusion based on this but I sure hope the gt3 cars handle better. And I had no issues with Project Cars 1 , in fact it's my favorite racing game.

What was the one car they gave you?

McLaren 720S road class I never drove road class cars in the first game so I'm sure that's why I had issues. Full game is installed now , I'm jumping in a GT3 car and running a 20 lap race. I'll be back in a few hours.
Yeah disregard everything I said above , it was the car. One lap in a GT3 and it's way better.
Ok , I have run 4 races in Quick play, that is pretty much all I ever ran in PC 1 .
I ran a GT3 race on Zolder , A rally cross not sure what track, Indy car on Brands Hatch , and a Stock car race on Texas motor speedway. There is so much to experience in this game that I won't be able to give my full impressions until I play all weekend and possibly even longer.
At a glance though I am impressed. The difference in feel between the different car classes is outstanding. The handling with a controller is great ( I never had an issues with the controller in PC1 ) And on the Pro the game looks beautiful.
One thing that's bugging me and I hope someone can assist me. The potential box on screen during the race, I want this gone. I don't like anything on my screen. I've gone into the edit hud section and removed it but it won't let me save and it keeps returning when I go back to the race. I'm obviously doing something wrong. Help!!!!

The Potential box bugged me as well.
I'm using the Steam version, so I hope this works for you on the PS4. Also, I'm not at home at the moment, so if I'm not exact I will correct in 8 hours lol :
During your race, pause the game. You see an option for On Screen Display or something close to that. Click on it and from here you can edit, move around, or completely remove the Standings, Lap Times, Potential, Rear View mirror, etc.
Since I drive using an Oculus Rift, I want the most realistic display possible. I remove everything so I'm forced to rely on my engineer and my spotter. Helps with immersion for me.
Again, this is way it is on the Steam version, so hopefully it's the same on console.
    Hope that helps...
Edit: I'm sorry I missed the part where you found the Edit HUD screen and said it wouldn't save. I think mine did the same thing at first, but I tried a few more times and then it worked. I'll double check when I get home to see if turning certain things on/off helped and if that finally let me save the settings

I love Steam's refund policy, but in the case of racing sims, 2 hours isn't enough IMO. In the little time I've had to play, the AI in PC2 is horrible. I'm constantly getting rammed form behind. I'm an average driver at best but this is ridiculous. Many complaints on Steam on this. Perhaps when they patch and there's a discount I may repurchase. PC2 has serious potential.
Perhaps this is the best way I can explain how much better the controller defaults are in PCARS 2:
This is PCARS 1, with an F1 car (no assists) on Spa-Francorchamps. F1's were so difficult to controller drive in this game because you always had to make a choice - either you decrease speed sensitivity way down to maintain your line on long, fast straights, or you could raise it to make tight turns. When you left it on default, you got this:

I put telemetry on so you could see just how little I'm moving the analog stick (top middle of the screen is the steering input) and how much the car jerks in response. Once the car set in corners and reached the limits of its grip I felt like I had a finer degree of control, but out on the straight it's like riding a bucking bronco. I actually think I did a damn good job staying near the driving line, all things considered.
Now PCARS 2, still default settings. The driving line is somewhat buggy so I turned it off:

For this one the steering input's in the lower left corner, so it's going to be hard to watch that and the driving at the same time. But you'll probably be able to see the difference in the car's stability, especially on that fast bendy section starting at around 1:40. I can make those small corrections needed to stay on my line without the car lurching back and forth.
This thing is one of the hardest cars in the game for me to drive (the old-time Lotuses with no aids are probably the single worst), and I'm actually able to get around a track relatively smoothly without looking like an RC Car. Can you tell it's only a controller? Absolutely. Is it driveable? Oh yes.
(I'm not driving an F1 in cockpit mode, so don't ask. I'm not suicidal :) )

Bonus: Took a GT3 car out for a spin on BrandsHatch, still default controller setting. The only two times I thought it broke immersion were turns 2 and 4 where I didn't hit the turns with enough speed and it had the "RC" look as I was turning. The same thing would happen if you did it with a wheel, though. Aside from that, smooth as butter. Even that little off-road trip near the end didn't look too bad.
I simply could not do that in PCARS 1.
