Often overlooked when looking for singles or doubles picks in Pokémon Champions, Heliolisk can be considered a perfect counter for the water-types. After all, what can be better than having your opponent heal you before retaliating with a one-shot?
But even if capable of doing the above, getting them ready to face the current meta will require more than just picking the right moves. Here’s the best Heliolisk build in Pokémon Champions, as well as which teams can fit them the best.
Table of contents
The Best Heliolisk Build In Pokémon Champions
We will start by keeping Heliolisk’s Dry Skin ability, which causes Water-type moves to heal them by 1/4 and allows them to self-heal by 1/8 after every turn under Rain. With the core of the build taken care of, invest in their DMG via both the Timid nature and a +32 investment in Speed and Sp. Atk. Item-wise, use the Choice Scarf when looking to hyper-focus on a specific move, or Magnet to double down on STAB DMG.
Best Moves For Heliolisk
As our chosen ability also causes all Fire-type attacks to deal 25% more damage to Heliolisk, Volt Switch is the first move on our list, followed by another highly damaging STAB option in Thunderbolt. To further boost their utility, we will then close by pairing Protect or Glare with the essential for doubles, Shed Tail.
Why essential? The move allows Heliosick to create a copy of itself that stays in the field and takes hits in place of your picks, thus allowing you to make full use of Dry Skin to sweep without worry. If you want, replacing the latter with Thunder can also work in singles, as the attack cannot miss in the rain, hits Sky-High, and has a 30% chance of paralyzing. To recap, here’s an overview of the best Heliolisk build:
- Ability: Dry Skin
- Nature: Timid (↑ Speed ↓ Stk) / Modest (↑ Sp. Atk ↓ Speed)
- Stat Investment: +32 Speed, +32 Sp. Atk, and +2 HP
- Item: Focus Sash or Sitrus Berry (+Survivability) / Magnet (+DMG) / Choice Scarf (+Utility)
- Moves:
- Thunderbolt (Singles)
- Volt Switch
- Glare (Singles) / Protect (Doubles)
- Shed Tail / Thunder (Singles only)
The Best Heliolisk Teams In Pokémon Champions
Thanks to its ability to counter their biggest weaknesses or offer protection for clean rounds, Heliolisk shines the most as a wallbreaker for both Rain and Sand teams. That remains true no matter the format, though I believe the latter is his best fit for singles. You can check out a few examples of teams capable of making full use of Heliolisk in Pokémon Champions below:
- Best Singles Trio
- Sneasler / Garchomp
- Pelipper
- Heliolisk
- Best Doubles Team

- Aerodacty
