  1. Thanks Steve.
Get Slovenia and Hungary added to international rosters and i'll be happy.
Korea is actually higher ranked but until the Asian league gets added, there is not much point in adding them.
Very excited to test out the AI improvements later today. The 2-on-1s and the 2-on-2 rushes have been crippling the VS, HUT, and offline experience for awhile now. If this is fixed, this will be a HUGE improvement!!
I'd like them to fix the issue with being forced to send players like Morgan Frost back to juniors instead of the AHL. And put in the Flyers new scoreboard.
What does this part exactly mean? Are these logos for create a team or?

This bug shows how much EA wants to fix their product in updates. But I manage to solve this problem for Franchise mode. Transfer these player (Frost, Tippett, Heponiem few to mention) to some European team.
For example I edited rosters so that for example Frost is playing finnish Liiga, at Pelicans. Now when you start franchise mode for example with Philadelphia, you have Frost on your AHL team, but if recall him and later drop back to AHL he won't be send to CHL anymore.
Hopefully you get some sort of sense, how to fix these AHL / CHL error players to stay in the AHL, and also being able to be called up on NHL if needed.
I fired up NHL 20 today since I have all of this free time and had a heck of a home opener against the Capitals. Down 3-2 with less than a minute left and Vince Dunn buries a slap shot to send the game into OT.
We go into the shootout and Parayko buries the winner!
I always have trades on hard and did trade away Brouwer, a prospect C and two late round draft picks to Carolina for Justin Williams. They actually offered me him for another trade offer, so I countered. He adds some good depth at RW and veterancy as we try for back to back Stanley Cup Championships.
I thought the game played great, AS, 7 minutes - penalties 4/4 and 50/100, and speed on 2.
Yikes. This patch absolutely destroyed online play. I don’t play offline at all so it might have helped a lot there, but it has made online play very close to unplayable.
First, they completely reset rosters and reverted them to what appears to be Game 1 but with trade deadline trades accounted for. Out for the season players are back in the lineup and the lines are a jumbled mess. Not a *huge* issue but considering you have to change it back every single time you play AND every time you back out to the main online versus menu, it adds up.
Second, goaltenders are super overpowered going post to post all of a sudden. What should be easy tap ins and one timers from the dot are getting stopped over and over... EXCEPT:
Third, shot accuracy has just gone haywire. A lot of these easy tap in and one timers are just nowhere close while wristers are as accurate or even more. Online play has just devolved into skate left shoot right snipe fests with no one even attempting to pass.
I think a big part of the issues with goaltenders going post to post and tap ins and one timers going haywire is that CPU controlled players just aren’t skating into position. It sure looks like their “fix” for getting weak side defenders to stick to their man is to draw the offensive AI player in closer. I’ll be on a 2v1/3v2 rush and just have players stop now as if they’re sucked into the defender and they just give up. Spacing is atrocious. That is putting these shots at slightly worse angles and so goaltenders are getting to them easier or they’re missing wide.
I have 200+ games online averaging over 4 goals a game and I’ve scored 4 just once in 8 games since the patch, a game I ironically lost in OT.
I should also note this patch completely failed to fix the only thing that has actually been wrong with the game, the network/server connection error issues that crop up every single time I play.
There is nothing actually wrong with the connection and I am able to play after clicking through the error multiple times on my way to Chel or Online Versus but it is absurd and has been plaguing the game for months.
I play NHL more than any other game and usually all the way through the off season but think I’ll be calling it quits now. This is hilariously bad.
EDIT: I also forgot to mention what is with the goalie fights online all of a sudden?! If you barely even tap a goalie after a whistle it’ll prompt a fight, which naturally morons online are always happy to do.

I had an itch to dive back in today after 24 straight days of MLB The Show 20. LOL
I haven't even turned the xbox on since.
I was thinking how to pick up where I left off, 3 games in etc. Have to find a way to grind a season. In MLB I have played through 4 different MTO's (March to October, play moments throught out the season), simmed a year 2 Mets frachise that came over from an MTO, just played critical moments and played full playoff games.
Man, wish hockey was like this.

Yeah I like Play the Moments in Madden, so with NHL I only play the home games and sim the road games.

A real developer would have made these teams playable in the game. :waytogo:
I play this Game only Offline in Franchise Mode, and, oh boy, i don't know what EA did on the Gameplay but the Gameplay feels better as ever before. I can't exactly describe what is different but it feels awesome - The overall "flow" of a game feels so "polished" now (on PRO-Difficulty-Sliders, Game-Speed 0, True-Broadcast-Camera).
    Great Job EA !
Do any of you play online? It would be nice to hear some feedback from people who aren't able to mess with sliders or rosters because this patch is horrific for online play. AI controlled players are just skating aimlessly on the ice. If there is a loose puck near an AI controlled defenseman at the half boards, they will actively skate away from it. Weak side defensemen in the defensive zone are, indeed, sticking close to offensive skaters... so much so that they're completely leaving the net unprotected as players skate down through the slot and fire off wristers. I watched a defenseman skate to defend a player near the left dot in a game tonight, that player didn't have the puck but the opposing center skating straight through the middle of the ice did.
It has gone from precision passing and one timers to just trying to skate singlehandedly through the slot and fire off a wrister. Every single game is the same now. Opposing human controlled players are just skating in circles waiting for AI controlled players to skate away following AI controlled opponents who are just skating aimlessly and then walking right in and firing wristers. Which is just about all you can do because of the crippling puck control problems and nerfing of one timers. I have never seen so many pucks dislodged for minor contact, or in some cases no contact at all. 45 of 60 ice minutes are being spent chasing pucks down as everyone just runs into each other and the puck is jarred loose.
Without digging too much into it, I think a lot of these things are changes to rosters. The ratings are all of a sudden way out of whack online, some teams changed 6-8 points overall offensively or defensively and I have a feeling a major edit to the rosters happened that has altered how players move on the ice. Would definitely account for the absurd goalie reaction times, wildness in passes and one timers and the total lack of puck control. Since the patch, I have not seen a single one timer goal in what is now 10 games. I haven't scored one, or given up one. If any of you have played online, you know how insane that is. Goalies are post to post stopping everything on net, if you're lucky enough to get it on net.
There should never, ever, ever be a game altering patch that fundamentally changes the way the game plays 7 months after the game is released. Patches 7 months in should fix bugs, like the constant NETWORK CONNECTION ISSUE screen that appears 2-3 times every time you open the game despite working just fine.

I appreciate this but I’m 40 games into my franchise and I don’t want o start over. He’s just going to stay with the big team. It’s not that big of a deal.

I don't play online anymore, but here are my thoughts and stuff I've gathered from reading other member's forum posts on other sites:
    1. Lowering puck control has been needed in online modes for years, so probably won't agree with you there. The desperately need to have a meta where tic-tac-toe plays are the norm, not LT spinning, RS curling, and board bouncing.
    2. The defensive AI problems have been quite impressively mitigated, at least on the rush. When the offensive team has established the zone, it goes downhill pretty quickly imo.
    3. I've been saying for years that the offensive AI in this game is so terribly static and boring. There's no creativity, players don't cut for open ice, they don't put themselves in a shooting position (I love the offensive dmen dropping to the high slot presumably for a shot, yet have their butt facing the goalie) and they don't support the puck when you're pinned or even trapped in a corner. They simply stand there. I also love when you kick it back to the point, have a few seconds to shoot, and nobody from your team even remotely tries to go screen the goalie. That's hockey 101 to have someone in-front if the puck goes high, I don't care what you strategies are. There should always be at least one forward fighting to get to the front for tips and screens if the puck is moved high.
So, with all of these points, I can see why online play has taken a huge hit. They lowered puck control (good in theory) while also making some significant improvements to the defensive AI (also good in theory) but without properly addressing the offensive AI, they've created a meta where it's more of a reward to puck hog and snipe, rather than pass and take one-timers.
Now, with all that said, I am loving offline play. I have never had this much fun playing offline games this entire generation. Yes, the AI still have worlds to go, but not being able to easily dissect the CPU defense with a few area passes has made this game a lot more enjoyable for me. I rock the Overload strategy on all of my lines offline, and I'm seeing a decent amount of cycling. I must admit though, I have had to artificially create AI movement by carrying the puck more which seems weird from a real hockey sense, but lots of quick shots, passes, and player movement will get them to at least move (can't promise how productive the movements will be though lol).
Also, I don't mind having great goalies. As a goalie myself, I've noticed that I really need to sell a shot or pass it to someone where a screen will affect the goalie's vision for a split-second to really get them to be late on cross-ice passes. I also rock completely manual passing (0 assist) and 96 puck interceptions, so I really like earning my goals in this game.
Yeah man, I feel bad that the online play is so not enjoyable because the offline is the best it's been this generation. Here's to hoping we get some large-scale AI strategy revamps in the next-gen!

Pretty much agree with all of this. Including enjoying the offline play more than ever before.
Not be be that guy, but improving offline play at the expense of online seems to be a bit of turnabout is fair play, given the history of this franchise.]
Here's my 5 cents. The AI will never be properly fixed until it has to play by the same rule as the human players (basically it can't). In a lot of sports it goes un-noticed,but not in hockey. I'll try not to make this too long, but here are some major points
    1. Passing I've seen this and tested this time after time but the AI will always pass at the maximum speed. This is why the they can zip passes faster than the human in online.
    2. Skating on higher levels the cpu gets a "speed burst" of sorts. To reach maximum speed a human has to click the stick 3 times. the cpu just goes. That's why the cpu catches up to every human online
    3. Puck retention/stick collision - The stick collision in this game is terrible. In order to have control over your stick, you first have to use poke check, which sometimes points to wherever. If the opponents Defensive or Offensive awareness is high, they will get the puck no matter what.
    4. Goalies and scoring - They need to make it where hockey plays work. If there's a guy in front of the goalie, the goalie shouldn't be able to make a clean glove save. most goals in the nhl are of the "dirty" variety (speaking about 5 on 5) most goals now in this series are wrist shots from high in the slot as long as you hold the stick long enough.
    5. AI - The AI will always make the safest decision (whether it is a good one or not) on offense. They usually don't ever shoot backhand or force anything. Unless it's a defenceman who is afraid to do anything except turn it over when your game is tied to give the other team a breakaway.

That is pretty much what I am seeing. The things that needed to be fixed for offline play were mostly fixed, to the detriment of online play. You used to be able to make really good hockey plays online with crisp passes and set up one timers and get some dirty goals shooting for rebounds. Now everything is just static and lifeless. I played three more games online tonight, lost all three, including a game I scored 7 goals, because every game is just a skate in circles wrister-fest.
I had a 70% win percentage over 200+ games and since the patch I am 2-15 because it is just a completely different game. I usually play a quick breakout, push em back entry style getting the puck in deep and then going back to the point and cycle. That is pointless now because the more you try to move and handle the puck, you’re almost guaranteed to lose control because of the puck control mechanics now or have a pass hit a skate and bounce all over. It is basically a skate in, skate around until you get a lane and fire away.
Maybe it is time to pick up offline play. I used to play offline a lot but haven’t in a long time. The inability to make any legitimate hockey plays online now just ruins the game completely for me but NHL is the only sports game I really enjoy anymore despite being a huge football and baseball fan so I am trying to make it work.

Can’t argue with that, but I will say that offline at least has access to sliders and roster changes to try to fix the flaws, even if the don’t get you all the way there. Online is entirely reliant on the games default sliders, settings and rosters.
So when there is a massive, drastic, game altering change the game play and rosters, it is horribly jarring. The completely uprooted rosters online after this patch is as bad as the gameplay changes because there was no reason for it. No games are being played, just leave them as they were. The rosters and gameplay changes together are like a train wreck at max speed..

Used to be a very competitive 6's player (LG, LGPS, ESHL, etc) but stopped early into 19 due to my job and personal life becoming too busy, and I honestly haven't missed it for a second. Offline sliders can do wonders and if you're an honest player who loves hockey. You can create "house rules" if there's anything too easy to score on, exploit, etc which is pretty easy for me to implement. Also, I love creating jerseys so I created my own offline league where I control every team and it's made the game much more enjoyable than using NHL teams. Also, I created 6'4" goalies for all my teams to really mitigate those top-corner snipes. It's drastically improved my offline experience!
The biggest thing that I hate with offline sliders is still the issue where your same sliders can play drastically different game-per-game. If you can get by that, I'd really suggest starting to play offline because you can make it your own world, experience, and meta. I hope that we'll get custom slider lobbies for online play soon. Would love to get a "sim" league going with either OS'ers or some of my offline friends because the biggest issue with online play is having to conform to the defualt sliders/meta.
This isn't really patch related but I'm not allowed to make a new thread. Every time I try to 1v1 my friend in online versus the invite fails and we can't connect. This is on ps4. Anyone know a fix?
I am slowly getting the hang of the "new" game online but the problem is that it is insufferable. I think I discovered what is really the underlying problem though... excessive goalie reactions. The goalie play has been altered in such a way that it makes the online game horrific.
Every single goalie reacts so fast post to post that it kills good passes and one timers BUT the goalies also end up out of position allowing the lamest goals ever. I have also never seen so many AI controlled goalies stacking pads in my life. There are 3 or 4 a game now and never in a logical situation. I had a game earlier tonight where I gave up a goal because my goalie stacked his pads as a puck carrier came from behind the net, skated around the front of the crease and around my stacked pad goalie shooting into an empty net.
Ironically, I won that game on a goal where the opposing goalie overreacted to a skate right shoot left snipe that hit a leg in the slot and the puck literally just slowly slid into the net from the slot because the goalie slid so far out of position the net was vacated. No passes, just excessive, exaggerated movements for no reason. That is this patch in a nutshell online. Movements for no reason.
Maybe I will go back to EASHL, 3s or 6s for a bit and see if that is any better because online versus is absolutely wrecking my will to even enjoy hockey and it is the only sports game I can tolerate playing at this point in my gaming life.
Hi, I just got this game and I’ve realized that the play by play crew rarely say goalies names. I’ve played over a dozen games and I’ve heard them say a goalie by name twice. Just wondering if anyone has this issue and if there is a fix for it? Thanks
Is anyone interested in joining an NHL 20 tournament? It is for both the Xbox and PS4. We are trying to build up rankings, so you play against the computer by following the rules on Gamerzarena and after the game you are given a score. We create a leaderboard and then the rankings from that are made into a bracket for single elimination. First prize for each console is $800. If you are interested let me know!
