  1. Was hoping they would bring goal songs back this year. Commentary is ok but they don't players names very often.
Wonder what camera that was, overhead?

Isn't that the Blues' goal song?
Can already tell that the game will get stale very quickly as it's basically NHL19 with a new overlay and a new play-by-play guy.
I'll still give it a try with EA Access but I'm not optimistic.
what I saw in the video was all I asked for, it made my surpassed my goals, I was drooling at the OT goal too, it has surpassed all my expectations, I wanna just buy it now, that's how Human vs Human should play, I especially liked how it was back and fourth and I liked choice of camera used for it too, I dunno… if it was Dynamic Medium or Something, I really liked Camera Perspective : Alternate , it worked good., it may look stale, but dude like me takes full advantage of that and makes goalies harder to score on and stuff, thank u for this video, I almost went got sum popcorn to sit down and watch it, it almost looked like real NHL game for once, it was that good, the graphics look like real humans, if u set resolution to 1080p 60, I can see it ran smoothly.
it was like taste to what's coming on September 13th
    again thank u for this.

Do you work for EA sports? Is this actually Rammer trying to boost sales?

Same Goalie masks as all years before, detecting no new face scans at this two Teams. Only other commentary and without NBC licence is new. Gameplay looking exactly like 19.

You may want to play NHL19 again because there were a lot of things that were better IMHO. Also, I believe for goalie masks that we will never see them in game because neither the NHLPA, the players, or the NHL owns any of the rights for them, so I would just get used to generic masks. :)
Players faces, I couldn't tell you if they did any scans because I can not stand either of those teams so I never watch them. :p
Thanks to OP for linking to this video. The game itself looks decent, I didn't really play much last year but the animations look smoother (maybe). For gameplay, I'll wait until I play the game myself. I do have some thoughts on commentary and visuals:
    - James Cybulski is an upgrade over Doc and Eddie. I liked him enough on Sportsnet and he is sounds engaged during the game
    - Cybulski is too excited. I like that he is not monotone but the commentary sounds like it's the last 2 minutes of a tied game for the entire 3 periods. Hopefully, there is a little more variety when the full game releases. To this point, not every save is a great save -- sometimes a simple "puck stopped" would suffice.
    - Needs more Ray. Ray provides some colour commentary but it still seems too sparse. A little more conversation would be nice (although it is hockey and doesn't lend itself as well to that style as the NBA series)
    - Transition names. Rather than saying the teams line up for the face off, the commentary should single out the two centremen. e.g. "Bozak and Tavares line up for the face off". It's a small change but significant for game immersion. The same goes for announcing goals. Instead of "he scores" and then silence, it would be nice if Ray picked up his narrative with "Ovechkin did blah blah blah..."
    - Silence on replays. There is still too much silence when the start to show other angles of goals. They should have more canned dialogue to discuss. Hopefully in franchise mode, they can discuss contextual elements from the season during these moments.
    - Lack of scanned faces. I know the team have a smaller budget than other sports games but if they cannot get the scans, they need to start adding a greater variety of fake faces.
It's only one game, so I'll reserve judgment until I play the full version. That said, I did want to get these thoughts out there. Although most of my comments are directed at the commentary, I'd like to say that Cybulski sounds like a big step up from the last few years.

    wrong again rocko!
am just saying I liked the video, I liked everything about it, it was really accurate, am giving an honest answer here and boxers can agree on that, that's how it should play, I didn't see one bot outta place , I studied it twice, u can't make a more perfect game then that.

He’s not asking for real masks, he’s asking for the generic ones to be updated more than once every 13 years. Doesn’t seem like a huge ask, but I guess flatbrims and skimasks are more important for an NHL game to have then goalie masks representing an NHL team to use the correct colors as the NHL team they’re supposedly created for.

LMAO. That's exactly what I was thinking when I read that post. It's such total crap. NHL 20 is nothing more than a basic update to 19, yet EA continues to charge full retail for their Ed Wood ping pong totally scripted/dictated hockey game.
It's been a total disaster with Ramjagsingh in charge, never played a game of professional hockey in his life, and until he's 100% gone from having anything to do with it anymore, the game will continue on being the absolute worst sports video game in history. It's so sad but true.
    SocialAssassin
The guys playing the game are actually mentally challenged and have never played hockey before. Couple that with the bad AI and it looks bad. Give me sliders

Well (probably) the worse thing is that these guys are actually not casual players at all :)
One of them is a Gamechanger, I think.
That's why they get the game early and could do the interview with that developer for their YouTube channel.

Yup. Never was a fan of Ramjagsingh. Time for EA to make changes! Of all the professional sports game that are currently playable on current gen this one is the worse by a mile!
    This video is embarrassing...
Less than 5 seconds and there is already a shot on goal, there's absolutely zero neutral zone play! The skating is so unrealistic, there's no momentum or inertia on it, they can make 180º turns without loosing speed. It's 90% of the time a brainless end-to-end gameplay that have absolutely nothing about real hockey, no build-up plays or strategies! There's no difference between players, everyone can make 20 meter lightspeed backhand passes between their legs! I couldn't watch more than 2 minutes because it was making my head hurt!
There's absolutely no reason for anyone that is interested in a realistic hockey game to play this game. This series are laughable at this point.
It looks exactly like NHL 19.
Did anyone notice how many times the one guy just skated straight up the ice along the boards and easily blew by the defender like he wasn’t there?
    Same braindead AI
    Same lack of player separation
    No board play at all
No neutral zone play at all
    Tape to tape magnetic passes
    Same cheese short side goal
This series is everything that is not hockey....pathetic. Until EA scrubs Rammer from this series just expect wash rinse repeat and a continued dive into a more arcade like game.

    Well, to be fair...
They definitely have “changed the game”...as it doesn’t really resemble “hockey”

I think that game changers are mostly competitive online players. They are not interested in a realistic simulation of the sport.
The game is targetting the Fortnite crowd. At least Epic , from what I'm hearing, is constantly working on new gameplay elements while EA barely touches the gameplay every year.
This is a sad affair but I'm guessing it still works well for them so I think we should expect a few more years of this recycled ****.
Ultimate team mode is the worst thing that happened to the sport game genre. I just don't understand why it keeps working so well for publishers. You would think that gamers would get tired to buy card packs every year basically trying to get back the players they had in the previous version.

This people are more gamblers. They are in general no Hardcore Hockey fans with deep knowledge.

Maybe a little overstated, but I largely agree with your comments. Sadly, this game has improved very little over the years.

I think the developer interview is very revealing in a not very good way if you are a simulation fan. The game needs a complete overall, and the developer admits it's not happening. But Kudos to the interviewer for asking tough, but fair questions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESk4xUJ-fB4&t=957s

It doesn't matter. All they had to do was add a layered logo editor so we can make our own. Forza has had it for years and even Black Ops 4 has one. Been asking for something like this for years and still I get ignored. You criticize this game on Twitter and the Devs will tell you, "Why do you give some real feedback". Once again, they never listen and until that changes I am out....
You know it's a weak effort when even some of the background music cues have been recycled.
And Cybulski seriously needs to lay off the triple espressos before he does a recording session.

Yeah, ok. I'd bet almost anything within a week or two of its release you'll be on her saying something along the lines of:
"goalie on back do flip flop should go left and save make... what this why? you hockey ever see?... OMGAO! in nhl they shoot some not only wide when 2 goals against... EA you need patch or game is broken?"
and then something about how you think you can fix it with the sliders.

nothing like that all my friend, sense I have experience with NHL 20, that's how it played, I think they are following path set out for them, NHL 20 was one of best years, but lack of be a pro videos and what was added is concern at this point, franchise video they showed u is very old, which begs question did those game changers actually even play NHL 20 at all at this point, they coulda showed us re-run video fake video, so am little skeptic, I think whatever to happened to us in this real world, is mind boggling no one remembers playing NHL 20 at all, bad case of amenisa I take it.
I remember playing NHL 20-27, NHL 23 they won all these rewards and stuff, so I am cautious at this point.

I haven't played an NHL game for a while but my first reaction to the video was "is that arcade setting gameplay" because it was stupidly fast and didn't resemble an NHL game that I would watch on tv.

I rarely post critical comments on this site, but am in agreement with pretty much everyone here. This is the same darn game as NHL 19...warts and all.
I’ll buy it for the updated rosters and classic teams, but this is a shameful effort. There’s no way EA isn’t aware they re-packaged the same title. There’s got to be a massive patch (physics/AI) coming, right guys?!

More like a massive HUT patch!!!! This is the reality of this series, is living for the HUT players. :brickwall

Yes....historically patches do more damage to the offline experience than good. Usually the patches tend to assist the online cheesers who whine for a month after releases that they can’t dangle with the puck all day until they score a cheese goal.
It’s been one of my chief complaints about this game. When EA makes a tuner or a patch it fixes one thing breaks another. It needs separate tuners and patches for online and offline.....but who are we kidding EA doesn’t give a rats *** about us offline gamers, in fact they despise us because we know hockey and call them out.

    Yeah, they are perfectly aware.
That's why there is no roster share in this game. And probably never will.
Wow, Im glad I don' bother buying NHL anymore and that I went back to playing older PC NHLs and 2K.
The commentary is cartoonish, like early sports games cartoonish, the gameplay is a polished version of the same thing it's been since the first current gen version, the "camera" work is so unlike anything on television so that's obviously something they're not trying to recreate anymore (gosh, even Madden looks better now) and all the characters look like lifeless zombies. NHL2K8's on ice animations were this bad/lifeless but it had gameplay that saved it. Anyway, to each his or her own, I'm sure lots of people will love it, but I won't be switching any time soon from community created updated rosters for older games.

The replay angles are really bad and nothing like on TV. There are even replays where the camera is sliding on the ice apparently controlled by an invisible short cameraman :)

It's a good thing they removed David Littman and added him to the Live team.
That worked out well for both series.

I doubt that if NHL2K was still alive they would have Ramjagsingh leading the team and the gameplay would be the same crap year after year. The series has gone downhill since the death of it's only competitor.

I already have a wife. I don't need a video game screaming at me non stop.

Quote of the decade!!! You shoot tweet this to Rammer and Clapper. Lol.

More in NHL 20
