Madden NFL 22 Scouting Update Arrives Tomorrow, October 12

The official Madden Twitter account has confirmed that the Madden NFL 22 scouting update is coming tomorrow.

Here are some of the updates that are scheduled to arrive.

  • A full scouting department
  • In-depth scouting reports including player physicals, traits, and ratings
  • News content that will move players up or down the media big board, impacting draft stock

  1. Weird that a relatively visible Madden YouTube vlogger is the one to break this news and not anyone directly associated with Tiburon, but whatever lol.
I just got done watching the video, and I think it is an improvement overall. Only thing I don't like is that the skills that unlock as you scout players seems to be random (some CB's for example only had one coverage rating unlocked, some had both, some had none).
It does seem like with a lot of later round picks you'll be taking shots in dark since you don't know a whole lot, unless you get lucky that a specific skill is unlocked and happens to be good. I'll be curious as to what OS thinks once we get our hands on the new scouting.
Here is something that hasn’t been addressed. I like to start my franchise in the current week. It doesn’t look like you’ll be able to do that with the new update. (It says assign scouts in week 1.)

    Bengal is THE MAN!!!

His Lions franchise has been the highlight of the madden season so far for me!
Shame he’s going to have to restart once the update drops

I’m just hoping that this is not going to break other things in the game. I feel happy with the way I have the game playing at the moment. Sometimes updates can have an effect on other parts of the game. Fingers crossed that this goes smoothly.

After watching the video tutorial of the scouting im glad I waited before starting my online 32 man league. It's a major bummer that the majority of the class will have incomplete grades/revealed scouting. Love the little tidbit of ex players being scouts for their position group i.e. Gary Brackett, Aqib Talib, Housh etc. Ready to get this thang rolling
Based off of the video I've already decided on a house rule that once I pick my scouts that won't fire any of them until the next season at the earliest.
Also I actually really like the scarcity of information about the majority of the players. You can actually draft busts now if you take a chance on a player who doesn't have the key traits revealed. I imagine that some people who are in ultra competitive leagues may melt down about this design decision.

I think one legitimate criticism we are going to hear about this update is that the information scarcity dilemma it introduces is flat-out unrealistic. The majority of NFL teams actually source their scouting information from one of two large football scouting services: National or BLESTO. These services scout literally every football player available. There is never a case where a team won't have baseline information about what a draft prospect can or cannot do. In addition, the NFL allows teams to conduct 30 private pre-draft visits with individual prospects. In Madden 22, you are afforded only three.
On the other hand, I think the artificial fog of war created by this update is a necessary counterbalance to a savvy and motivated user being able to run laps about the current CPU team-building AI. Any veteran Madden franchise player is well aware of how easy scouting and drafting was in the legacy scouting system; scouting points were handed out generously, the CPU did not draft according to the True Talent grades while the user obviously could, and it was often sufficient to use Combine Grade as a proxy for identifying the best among unscouted players. This new update restricts the availability of information to the user and prevents a lot of what I just listed from happening, which in turn provides the CPU more wiggle room when it inevitably makes its own mistakes.
I didn’t hear how the scout pool works for multiplayer leagues. Is there a scenario where several users in the league want a tier 3 QB scout and there isn’t enough of them available?
I'm personally not a fan of Bengal, very opinionated and disrespectful to other content creators. But that's not important I hope we can have the option to switch to the old scouting system. It looks great but I also like the old points system because it's much quicker and not so time consuming. I'm excited about the update tomorrow.

Perfect timing to get back into the game. Anyone have a team you're planning to start this one with? I've been thinking about the Bears or Colts.

Im hoping i can start my franchise at the current nfl season, in that case im going to keep rolling with the jets. If i have to start over at week 1 potentially going to use the dolphins.
I really like what i have going in my currents jets cfm, so starting over with them is what im hoping for.

I doubt you’ll be able to switch between both, I suggest starting a franchise now before it comes with the team you want and another tomorrow with the update so you’ll have two different ones and can decide which you’d like to use.

I hope it works as planned.
But, I cannot wait when there is some issue with it that the people calling for EAs head for delaying it initially now start calling for EAs head for releasing "a broken product" and not making sure all the bugs were worked out.

I'm sure that thread will be up by the end of the week lol. Derrick Henry's rating will stay the same and people will find bugs in this patch. It is what it is. Hopefully the bugs aren't as bad as what is already in the game.

Any mention on if other things like progressive fatigue and rookie scans/player portraits will be includes in this title update?

Kane said on Twitter that the Panthers’ rookie portraits would be included in the “next update”, which I’m assuming is this one. Maybe the other teams will have theirs added too?

Falcons for sure. I love their stadium and it's gonna be fun to find the heir to Matt Ryan.
This counts as "early" October for me, so ahead of schedule, which is a very nice surprise.
I watched Bengal's video on scouting last night, which was good. I'm exited to see the scouting update in particular, and am hoping for a well-balanced update on the whole!
Looks like a big improvement. Hopefully it all works as designed at release without game breaking bugs.
One thing that frustrates me is the design, I feel like it is all portrayed in a counter intuitive way. Like combine times you have to go into each player's card individually. Just give us a table we can sort by rather than having to search around.
The more I watched of Bengal's video the more down I got on this. He made some good points about base skills for players not showing doesn't make sense. Also I thought it was really cool that you didn't see the overall when you drafted a player, but then it just shows afterwards so what's the point...

Are we going to have to start our franchises over? I’m in year 5 and love where I’m at…can I use this on my current franchise?

The scouting update does not apply to existing franchises. They mentioned this when first introducing the scouting update and mentioning that it was coming post launch.

I wish the skills that are revealed were tied more directly to the team's scheme archetypes. If I am running a 3-4 vs a 4-3, I only care about a few skills of the OLBs (because we still don't have iDL and Edge). I think this would go a long way to provide users more relevant information even without a full skill reveal.
I think this will do a better job of capturing the educated guesswork AKA projection that is the NFL Draft with so few 100% scouted. Obviously this will hopefully be tweaked for '23 but seems like a good start. The other idea I would propose would be 100% reveal opportunities based on draft day. 3 for round 1, 3 for rounds 2-3, 3 for rounds 4-7 for example.

Swami mentioned last week(I know it's in another thread) that progressive fatigue fix was in this title update.
After watching Bengal's video I'm not gonna lie, it's a little underwhelming from a viewing standpoint. It's a deeper and more involved scouting method but why is it ridiculously restrictive and unrealistic to how much information teams get pertaining to a prospect? In what world would a scout tell you about a CB's block shedding before his coverage abilities?
I like that it will lead to you not being able to draft 4-5 starters in every single draft because you have the one up on the CPU AI as you did in the older system but the way it goes about accomplishing that is sorta frustrating.
The problem with the Draft being largely random and not being an exact science doesn't grow out of teams and scouts not knowing enough about a player when in today's age they know literally everything about almost all prospects. The draft is a crap-shoot because of what happens once those rookies are in the league. That's where Franchise mode largely fails because you practically never have a "bust" player. If you feed a guy, make him a focus and he plays he won't ever not be a superstar regardless of where he starts from.
I'll be honest as an older gamer who has little free time, I think I'm going to prefer the way it's always worked as it's quick and easy each week. I'll reserve judgement for later since I'll just stick with my CFM in progress since I'm having a blast with the Lions and will continue to use the current scouting system.
I am happy for those who want a deeper scouting module I just wish we could choose which one to use.
I do hope there are other fixes like CPU progressive fatigue and coverage fixes.
The scouting system we had up until Madden 21 was bad. Everyone knew how strong the prospects are. Only the CPU teams didn't.
For those of us who are older, the amount of information we get with the new system feels like what we used to have about 10 years ago. I actually forgot when the current scouting was installed.
And if I understand correctly, we get some more information when we expand the stuff tree.
And if you look at how the rookies from the real NFL drafts develop: no, you don't have all the information there either! No scout in the world knows how a player will develop. A little more randomness, bad luck or luck is good for the draft. No matter if you play alone against the CPU or in a 32 man league.
Any other smaller updates unrelated to scouting included with the title update?
    Blizzards in playoff games?
    Jordan cleats broken in franchise
    Coverage fixes
    Progressive fatigue fixes
That’s just off the top of my head

They claimed to have fixed coverage issues with the last big patch. It has been better in my experience
Progressive fatigue should be fixed with the scouting update today

Actually, I think Clint mentioned they were rolling out with Cover 2 next, but I don't know if it will be in this one.

I'm going to actually create a base franchise file under the current patch (which uses the old scouting) at week 1 pre-season that I can use as a jumping-off point to begin a new franchise under the old system (just in case).
TBF, I NEVER scout in my franchises because it is an advantage over the AI. I only drafted based off combine results. I had plenty of picks that were a total reach and some that were steals. Made it more fun and challenging.

Great idea, I think I'll do that too with the next CFM and team I plan to use.

I kind of figured this thing would have dropped at midnight. When do these types of things typically drop?

Mid-day (around 11am oftentimes....may be earlier or later).
    (FYI...patches don't drop at midnight)
One thing I am NOT happy about — what appears to be a change in what Deuce Douglas originally conceived here:
The “scouting notes” in the original videos he made here were at least sometimes tied to ratings, e.g., “Teammates say he can catch the ball in the dark.” But now it seems those notes are only tied to traits. That is a huge disappointment to me. That was one place where you could have gotten more information about ratings, and now it’s just traits. Not to mention it hurts the story-telling side of it limiting that to just traits.

    Did the update drop yet?
No. Im sure there will be a new thread with notes started when it drops.

This is as good a time as any to get back into Madden. I have been on 2K22 pretty hard the past few weeks. I'm debating between adding Watson to the Falcons or the Steelers in this new franchise with the scouting update. I'm definitely gonna check it out.
