MLB The Show 25 is just around the corner and while we have plenty of new and shiny gameplay trailers dropping, some players are more curious about the guts of the game. Specifically, a major talking point for The Show fans has been around the cross-functionality of MLB The Show 25.
In modern online gaming, crossplay and cross-platform progression are two major features that fans have come to expect (where it makes sense). If an online game isn’t crossplay, then some players might not even be interested since they can’t play with their friend who’s on another platform. Alternatively, if players can’t access their account from multiple platforms, then their experience might be diminished as well.
Fortunately, we do have concrete answers on whether MLB The Show 25 features crossplay and cross-platform progression.
Is MLB The Show 25 Crossplay?

First off, we’ll start with the more important feature. Crossplay gives players the ability to play with or against friends or random online players on any system. With MLB The Show 25 coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, crossplay offers the chance to play with people on any one of those platforms regardless of what platform you’re on.
Luckily for all of you with friends who refuse to buy your same console, full crossplay is coming to MLB The Show 25 at launch, just as in past titles. This has been confirmed on the official FAQ page for MLB The Show 25, where the official blurb reads: “All consoles support crossplay.”
This means that even Nintendo Switch players can join up with friends who are on PlayStation and Xbox and vice versa. There was some worry that crossplay would be a feature the developers might cut for the Switch, but that’s not the case.
MLB The Show traditionally gives you the option to disable crossplay when changing your profile settings in-game. However, on Xbox, you have to go into your console settings, go to Account, then Privacy & Online Safety in order to disable crossplay in MLB The Show.
Does MLB The Show 25 Have Cross-Platform Progression?

Now for the second of the features. Cross-platform progression gives players the chance to access their accounts on different platforms. So, for example, if you have a PlayStation 5 in your living room but a Nintendo Switch in your bedroom, cross-platform progression allows you to seamlessly play the same account on both systems.
Once again, MLB The Show 25 is coming through in the clutch. Cross-platform progression is available at launch on March 18 on all systems. The official FAQ page states the following regarding cross-progression: “Just create an MLB The Show account and link all your primary PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, and Nintendo Online accounts.”
So, from the sounds of it, you just need to sign into your MLB The Show account on any system you want to play the game on and then link your system account to it. If you have all your accounts linked, you can seamlessly transition from one system to the other and still access every bit of progress you’ve made in MLB The Show 25 on your primary account.
Of course, the main issue with cross-platform progression is you have to own MLB The Show 25 on any system you want to play on. This means if you’re in the aforementioned situation where you have a PS5 in the living room and a Switch in the bedroom, you’re required to purchase the PS5 and Switch versions of the game separately. This will run you at least $130, with the price climbing to at least $140 if you buy the PS5 and Xbox versions. You can go even higher if you want to purchase the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game.
Every person’s situation is different, so if you can justify owning MLB The Show 25 twice, then at least you know you’ll be able to access your same account regardless of where play.
