Reddit User Says MLB The Show Helped Them Lose 50 Pounds

Not on our bingo card.

MLB The Show 26 is right around the corner with some brand new features, and there are already debates around the improvements it’s bringing to the table. We’re not talking about that today. Instead, we’re going to be covering how the series had an unexpected positive effect on one Reddit user. Over at the r/MLBTheShow one user shared how the game (presumably The Show 25) helped him lose 50 pounds.

Here’s how user “Wavesarewaves” describes their journey:

“I would get on my treadmill, open up The Show, and play online. I started with just basic games with quick pitch on, and I’d play a full game, then I focused on Diamond Dynasty. I would end up walking anywhere from 1.5 to 2+ miles per game, sometimes even more.”

At the end of the post, the user points out how his new walking habit was supplemented by eating healthier and focusing on their health more. However, gamifying their workout with MLB The Show did help. Anytime the user had some free time, they’d jump on the treadmill, launch the game, and start walking. They’d even open up some packs while walking.

This amounted to a random walking session up to 3 times a day. At times, they were walking close to 10,000 steps, which is what health professionals recommend everyone do daily. Not a bad way to look after your health and have fun at the same time. If anyone wants to follow the same routine, the user recommends that they pick up a small, cheap walking pad from Amazon.

He also credits MLB The Show for being a relatively easy game to play while walking. Obviously, first-person shooters or something that requires a lot of mental focus isn’t well-suited to this idea. It also helps that full games in MLB The Show take anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes, which is just about the perfect time for a quick workout. With this method, the user was able to lose 50 pounds in one year. The results are nothing short of impressive, and it’s a fun story that showcases how games positively affect us in unexpected ways.
