FIFA 20 FUT: Team of the Group Stage Player Reviews (Part 3)

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Alright, lots to get to here with 20 players being looked at overall. We have already covered Cuadrado and Morelos in separate posts so they will be left out here. We’ll be covering all of the Team of the Group Stage players in four posts.

You will be able to find links to all of them in each post once they go live.

We have lots of heavy hitters here in part three, but most of them are known quantities so that’s why I’ve grouped them together.

Ter Stegen is a 6-foot-2 German GK for Barcelona. He is already widely considered the best GK in the game with his base gold version. I personally dread seeing Schmeichel more, but I don’t disagree with the statements about Ter Stegen being the best goalie in FUT right now.

Over his base 90 overall gold, you get +2 diving, +1 handling, +1 kicking, +2 reflexes, +1 speed and +2 positioning. Cost is really the only question here, as you’re paying about 125K for this card, versus roughly 60K for the base gold. In this case, you’re getting what is most likely the best goalkeeper so I do think the cost can be justified. That being said, certain goals are still goals no matter what, so GK is not where I spend my money first if I want to get an “end-game” card.

We are up to five versions of Lewandowski with this card, so I will not go into all the comparisons, but the big thing here is the latest version starts to edge him closer to pace that can be boosted by a chemistry style to make him one of the most well-balanced strikers around — at least if we factor in pace. With four-star skills and four-star weak foot, the last thing that’s a bit annoying to do is find him quality links beyond the Bundesliga.

He’s about 290K right now, and I think that’s more than fair value. He does not break into crazy territory for cost because the pace still is not nutty, but you have 90 composure, 93 shot power, 94 finishing, 97 attack positioning and 89 long shots. He is going to score goals in bunches, and I don’t think you should let the pace turn you away from him. Pace is very important in this game, but don’t let it cloud your feelings about an awesome card.

Son is working on his fourth version of a card, and he’s now rotated back from CF to LM in this version. His Road to the Finals card is a CF, and that’s where this calculation has to start. If you believe in Tottenham, then maybe you never even really think about this card.

Tottenham is going to make it through to the next stage, so his Road to the Final card is going to be just as good as this one, if not better in some ways. Of course, his RttF card is about 1.9 to 2 million coins so that’s quite a bit different than paying 800K for this version. His price means I’ve really only messed around with him in Drafts, and I personally just don’t get the Son hype. He’s awesome in real life, but I don’t feel it’s necessary to pay these exorbitant sums for Son when there is plenty of other options. I understand the EPL element helps him, but I think you just get the cheapest version of him you can, or wait for this price to come down further after the RttF card gets upgraded.

It will be a cold day in hell when I’m paying 2.3M coins for this card, especially with the SBC coming up later this week. If anything, I’m just fascinated to see what the cost of the SBC is for a 96 overall POTM Messi. I also don’t really feel the need to really review Messi anyway because you know he’s great. I think he’s a little below someone like Mbappe this season, and on the same level as Neymar, but he has a different purpose than someone like Mbappe.

Use your discretion here, more or less.

FIFA 20 FUT

I’m sure this card is fantastic, but at these levels you’re playing around the margins. I don’t doubt he will dust everyone with even better pace than his normal card, but the card is going for even more than Messi right now at 2.4M coins. I think you’re going to be more than happy with Mbappe if you just stick with his in-form version or base gold. He’s incredible in the game this year, and you absolutely need to try him out in Drafts at the very least, but he’s not worth 2.4M coins when you can spread that coinage out elsewhere.
