eFootball PES 2020
eFootball PES 2020 Demo Available For Xbox One, PlayStation 4 & PC/Steam, Cover Art & PC Requirements Revealed
The eFootball PES 2020 demo is available now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC/Steam. Online is also available in the demo, along with edit mode for the PlayStation 4 and PC/Steam.
Make sure to play a few matches and post your impressions.
Also of note, the eFootball PES 2020 cover art has been revealed, featuring Messi, Gnabry, Pjanic and McTominay. Check out the images below, along with the demo trailer and PC minimum and recommended requirements.
Konami have tighten up pretty much everything that needed tightening.
POSITIVES
+ The new camera angle is fantastic
+ There are far more (realistic) deflections
+ The pass assist seems to be toned down (finally).
+ Playing good positional defence is rewarding (finally), as you have a better chance of blocking a pass or dispossessing the CPU. Well overdue!
+ The ball physics are great
+ AI is smarter - better positioning of both CPU and AI- controller teammates.
+ Great variety
+ Playing with weaker teams is really noticeable - more errors / more passes going astray.
NEGATIVES
- There are still some legacy issues but they are slowly being eradicated
- The ref is very whistle happy, calling all sorts of things, some of them never a foul.
- The right stick / left stick dribbles are still quite clunky and slow
- The grass looks kind of fake
- Resolution is very low (but I guess this is because it is a demo).
Good prelude!

It has 20 teams in PEU but we can't edit team league limit in the demo but I have a feeling it won't go above 20.
Tottenham
Everton
Chelsea
Leicester
I’ve never seen that before

Is it easy to edit the teams though?
Or can we not do it in the demo at all?
It is up now in NA on the PS4.
The legacy issues are slowly but surely rearing their ugly heads.
The biggest issue is the huge space in midfield, though this year is slightly better.

I actually matched up with two zero assistance players last night. Really enjoyable games

Where in the demo can you access this?
I can only play with 13 teams.

+ The ball physics are great
Good prelude!
Shooting is still quirky. A right footed striker running towards the left, will still take and ugly outside the shot foot with his right foot.
The ball doesnt really bounce realistically on passes longer than 10 or 15 yards.
I will say the animations during physical confrontations have improved a bunch. Still keeping and eye out.
Some people were saying the passing is less accurate but I don't see it at all. Feels just as accurate as last year which was already way way too OP.
They really need to decrease passing accuracy by a lot. You can still ping pong pass your way to victory. Everyone can lob a through ball with Messi like accuracy.
The AI is also absolutely brain dead and rarely try to apply pessure in attack unless they are two goals down.
The graphics of the players seems like a big downgrade from last year. Everyone looks like they are 45 years old. Ter Stegen looks like he is on the verge of retirement. Their faces look very aged. Quite bizarre.
PES 2019 Demo was AMAZING, and then they made it worse when the full game came out. The new demo is really lackluster, but they have a LOT of work to do before the official release.
On the flip side I like that they have finally added proper injury time (finally saw 6 minutes added!) depending on how the match goes.
Yes indeed.
I just read it wrong.

Yeah I think last year they said they had to make the resolution worse to keep the demo file size down in order to get in other features/additions.
Oh well, I did manage to get a start on a few things:
EDIT: Some new additions I noticed; custom sponsor logos, which are the logos placed on the ad boards behind the players during interviews; and an American collegiate-style jersey font, which should really come in handy for recreating classic kits.
Pros:
-Finesse dribble is finally fixed. Feels much more fluid with the RS and there's no longer a jarring transition between the normal and finesse dribbling. HUGE improvement, feels great.
-The Live Broadcast camera is amazing, right away I can tell that's my cam this year. It zooms when I want, it looks phenomenal, I've had zero issues seeing the field clearly for long balls, etc.
-The fouls are much, much better this year. I've already picked up a few fouls where I wasn't even pressing a tackle button, and had basically just barged into a guy recklessly. Loved it, last year I never committed fouls without a slide tackle being involved. Looking forward to seeing some set pieces, maybe even a penalty or two.
-There are a lot more animations, I'm very rarely seeing any awkward movements this year. The game looks fantastic in motion, it'll be difficult for EA to match that kind of fluidity.
Cons:
-CPU still doesn't ever threaten with the dribble. I don't think I've been legitimately juked by the AI in like 10 years on this game. The higher the difficulty, the more clinical the passing and shooting, but even the best players in the world don't give you that deer in headlights feeling when you're defending them on the wing.
-In 4 games on Superstar, I think my lowest possession % was like 58. The CPU simply doesn't play the ball backwards enough, and they are too content to allow me to pass the ball around freely. I'm 1-2-1 in these games mind you, but still, winning over 50% possession should feel like an accomplishment, not an inevitability.
-Presentation is still quite a ways behind the competition. Granted, this is a demo and the lack of commentary is huge, but the replays, overlays, etc are all feeling pretty dated now, even though I find the UI to be pretty sharp for the most part. Not much excitement when a goal is scored though, hoping a screaming announcer will help that.
Overall, I'm pleasantly surprised. Went in with low expectations, but I don't think I could go back to PES 2019 after playing this, which is really all I can ask from a game developer on a yearly cycle. We'll see what EA brings to the table, at least I feel like I have one viable footy game option already though.
Also @DBMcGee3 I agree I do wish the dribbling was more threatening playing but at least they actually dribble the ball now. But I did however got faked out by Messi as he double touched around me and bent a shot in the top corner, it looked beautiful and I haven't seen something like this happen in a long time in PES, wish I recorded it.

FIRMINOOOOOO!!!
1. just put your body in front of the attacker and your defender will auto defend
2. tap:x::x: in front of attacker to steal the ball......timing is key
3. :x: hold this to pressure steal the ball........ if you press to long your going to become to aggressive and draw a foul.
4. hold :square: to bring help from your teammates but again hold it down too long and aggression will rise and the whistle will blow!
5.tap :x::x: while from behind the attacker to pull him down and draw a foul
6. my controller is set to :circle: for a slide tackle..... harder to time this and it's risky (i use only as last resort) anyway, when you get it, it works.
once you get this your foul count will drop

Good post it took me a few games to figure some of this out because my foul count was sky high lol the first two games and even got a red card one match.
My only fear is still the backline AI and some of the braindead play they can exhibit at key moments. Would also like to see the CPU become dangerous and take over games with star players more, whether it be with dribbling or scoring.
Love how Lacazette shields the defender creating an angle for Bellerin. Then the no touch dribble command and hulk smash into the back of the net.
It happens the just the same on Professional if you square up in front of the CB, holding down x to apply pressure not even necessary.
I'll try to capture videos to show everyone what i'm talking about.
So of course I like FIFA because it's for the casual fan like me.
Ive tried PES many times but it was always too hard for me as a casual player. Seems like you had to know the X's and O's of soccer to be good at it.
But this year's demo, absolutely love it! I can actually score goals and work the field. Maybe they dumbed it down for casual players like me but I'm leaning on getting it. The graphics and fields look great too and the player models in PES always have beat FIFAs player models.
The option file thing will be a PIA but if the gameplay and graphics are like this, i'm ok with it.
Good stuff so far!
p.s. - i really like no commentary too. I like the stadium sounds from the game. May go with this if i get the full version.

They have made the option file importation way easier as of last year. So it should be the same for 2020.
Man i wish you could get files on Xbox
I think you can still rename the teams on Xbox.
At what difficulty level ? It happens regardless of difficulty level ?
I've to admit that I quit playing PES 19 after 2 months of release after I found the defending of AI on my team very problematic on top level difficulty and the repetitiveness of how CPU attacks you ( I play only Master League) , low crosses and etc.
But i am really excited to see what PES 2020 offers as far as i've seen on the demo.
MAJOR PROPS to game advisor Iniesta, who really helped shape the game up.
I am a major football fan and I played football all my life so i care about the X's and O's of football, when i play a football game i always look at it from realism point of view, so please read my comments based on that fact:
I played the demo at least 12,13 times with different teams on TOP PLAYER difficulty:
1- I really LOVE the speed of the game. It's closer to real football.
2- I loved how KONAMI put emphasis on the body balance when you control the ball, depending on the player's skill level and momentum, it takes time for them to gather themselves and if you attempt to pass before they gather themselves, again depending on their technical qualities, that pass can go very wrong ...
3- I loved how AI closes down the angles when you try to cross, they don't give you space to cross that ball.
4- I loved how weak foot affects how you pass / cross / shoot. Like in the previous games when you cross the ball with a player's weak foot it usually goes decently inside the box, now i've seen sometimes that cross goes terribly out or way off. That's GREAT !!! In terms of realism I loved to see that.
5- Also again on crosses, it can sometimes go out of the box without anyone (defenders or attackers) touching it, i loved that too.
6- I loved that it's harder to get past your defender by dribbling, you gotta have a skillful player to do that or fast player.
7- I loved to see the affect of acceleration on the gameplay, not speed, acceleration. Faster players can now just blow by defenders by pure acceleration. Going from 0 to 100.
I couldn't test the game further, probably there are hundreds of little good and bad things but my first impressions on the game are excellent. I didn't feel that way in PES 2019 demo.
What filter settings are you using Royce?

I believe it is Balance connection and similar level for passing. I am on Pass assistance 1 I think, I will try again later this evening. :)
It's less assisted than last year for sure probably the first year in a while where you can really see a skill gap in passing.
Are you on a console or PC? If the later, there is a mod to make the matches as long as you'd like. I haven't seen anything for PS4...yet.
What Royce said and the passing is more realistic in the sense that your body position needs to be right in order to get the most accurate passes.
You can definitely tell the difference between say Barca and Vasca.

Probably in 4-5 days after release ( for free). If you are a member of PESUniverse (paid membership) you can get it day 1 i guess. I'm not sure
PES-World typically has most of the major European leagues available day 1 (minus Bundesligue). They typically aren't the best, but it is at least real player names, proper kits, and logos.
This Game plays so realistically. The control passing, tempo and defense and control are really improved as are the graphics
I am one of those unusual players that Plays sports game in Player mode camera, 2k and this specifically as the on field/court camera give you a much better feel of being on the court/field. Prefer that by far than side scrolling or angled broadcast type views. I Ike feeling like I'm playing not watching from god mode and in that camera is how you can see all of the immense detail that goes into the contact and animations in this game. It really is incredible. You can't compare to FIFA in side view although it still plays well there
The pacing and control of your animations and the physics of the ball is top notch
On Xbox so it sucks I can't get edited files but I'll do a few team names and try to imitate a few kits hut I'm not really a fan so I only have a passing knowledge of the teams anyway.
But it feels like a football match :appl:

I totally get how you feel, I am a little more cautious for how the game will be on the release after my extensive time with the demo both on and offline. I will say Konami giving us a 5 minute demo against the AI is suspect after last year. But I they do have players at least feeling like their real life counterparts for the most part when it comes to passing, first touch and speed. The physical part is a little iffy to me as it seems to work a little too well at times; I have seen the likes of Coutinho and other small players holding up play too well against Bayern's Sule and other known physical players.
Also the part that has me most concern is players responsiveness to the ball. With the introduction of these impressive ball physics comes a very worrisome issue with how players are responding to it. I've seen so many delays in movement and balls rolling within a few feet of players and they don't even react to it or even jog right by it.
I really hope they don't release the game with the responsiveness this bad because it would be slightly gamebreaking to me.

Yeah. I'm sure we'll get the usual PES glitches we get most years, unfortunately. I guess it's a product of a smaller dev team.
They did add intentional fouling, which seems like it only works in some situations, but it is a big part of the real game of football so credit for that at least.
5 minute matches in the demo is very FIFA-ish. Historically it seems like PES always had decent length demos, while FIFA had the stupidly short ones.
Unfortunately, all sports games suffer the same fate these days. At least for PES, there are ways to slow the game down through in-game options and even more ways on the PC version.
Definitely seeing this as well I think the most extra time I have seen was 6 minutes.
Damn ! I am disappointed with that development as well. I really LOVED the pace of the game. I think they should only change the speed of the game on online modes, they should use seperate feedback for online and offline modes
they have done that the last 2 years as well from the beta
I like the pace of play and the gameplay feels great
still will be great gameplay and for those who want it slow you will be able to do that by dropping the speed
the shielding and player physicality and collision detection in this game is really good. I think that is what makes the gameplay superior to 19. that and it feels more responsive on the controls as well
PES has the most fun 1v1 dribbling, but the team shape and compactness are a joke to me. We can criticize FIFA all day, but when I watch real life football, and how teams defend, I see FIFA and not PES.

I have noticed this as well, which has me a little concerned how the final game will be in terms of difficulty.
Double tapping sprint will allow the dribbler to do a "knock on".
Yes, now that you mention it I do remember that. I guess my gripe is that double-tapping a trigger doesn't feel nearly as intuitive as flicking an analog stick, especially when you're supposed to be holding down that trigger to sprint.
It's a minor thing to complain about, but I do wish they'd incorporate this into their "Plan B" control scheme, or whatever they call the one that mimics FIFA.

Ya I hate it so much. Everyone looks ghoulish. The lighting reminds me of NBA Live 18 and that was one of the worst looking games I’ve played
Also twice I tried to chip the ball over Neuer outside the box from 25 meters away - Neuer was way off his line- i did FULL power on the shot but it arrived to Neuer's hands, didn't go over him. Maybe because i need to do it full manual shooting in settings ? Or even at full manual it's like that?

The more and more I play the PES demo the more and more I believe this is the year that PES will be back to the good old days from years ago. I’ve preordered both games but seriously think if the full release plays like the demo then I’ll be playing PES more than FIFA this year. Can’t wait to get playing the full game next week!

I am very worried the CPU is not aggressive enough even on the highest difficulty level, it seems like they are not wanting to win or something.
Same here.
I used to play on Top Player on previous installments and found it a nice challenge where I can win if I play well and draw/lose if I don't.
Had to put the demo on Superstar for the CPU to be anything aggressive and have any challenge.
Very concerned about AI difficulty...and even more concerned after I played a game on PES 19 with my 5 year old son against regular difficulty. I honestly walked away surprised how aggressive the AI was and we lost the game...not that I had any help in defence ;) lol
But after getting used to PES 20's demo AI the AI in 19 is way more aggressive.
Having said that, I will post gameplay videos to my youtube page after playing it. Any requests or anything you wonder about the game? I can check it for you

I played some training to test the new moves, checked the licensed teams, Italy seems to have full licence other than Brescia-newly promoted team to Serie A.
In Spain i only saw FC Barcelona's license and in England i saw only M.Utd's license. This time they wrote the team names as VALENCIA RW or something like that so you know that it's Valencia, not a generic name.
I played 3 games, first tried it on superstar difficulty, me Lazio against Inter CPU.
The game ended 0-0, in superstar it's really difficult to find openings in AI's defense partly because i am not familiar with the new game's offense, partly because they close down really well and don't give you any space.
So i switched to top player and won both games 1-0 with Roma against Juve and Lazio against Napoli. The videos are here, you can check them:
My impressions:
1- It's no coincidence that i didn't conceede a single goal in those 3 games, not just that I like to defend well with my teams it's because AI team-mates are very smart in terms of how to retain their positions and AI is not exploiting the glitches in the game, they play fair football. So defending is really fun and defending is effective in this game. Same for the opponents - CPU - they defend really at top level, it's hard to break their defense down, i saw that in demo as well, they don't give you good angles to cross the ball, you have to work a lot.
2-Tactics really matter this time. I played 3-5-1-1 with SS Lazio and played compact defensive formation with counter attack, defensive line deep and as you can see the difference on both videos, in AS ROMA video and in SS LAZIO video, AI teammates immediately go back to their spots defensively, close down the angles and on offense they run like athletes offensively for counter attack opportunities. I went with default formation - 4-3-3 with AS Roma intentionally to see the difference.
3-The game is slower and more realistic.
4- Weaker foot accuracy is very realistic, it will go way off if you really try to shoot with power in a difficult situation with a left footed guy who has very weak right foot.
5- On Top player difficulty - i take it as basis because i always played 19,18 and previous versions of PES on top player- opponents close down much more often and much more effectively than in the past !!! Like if opponents were pressing you in Pes 19, 18 and etc., you were able to get past them , pass the ball quickly and create a scoring chance easily. It was a blessing in disguise for cpu to press that much for me. In PES 2020, just like in real football, they close down and don't give you room to turn, accurately pass or etc. ,they get the ball out of your feet quickly, so it's very effective, that makes the game more challenging = less scoring chances = less goals = more realistic.
6-AI is smart like hell , they don't go for empty cross, shot fakes. Empty means it's a stupid fake to do, so in real football you mostly ignore that fake, CPU ignores it too now, in the past they were going for every fake. Also it's harder to get past them with dribble, they seem to know your tendencies - like with left footed Cengiz, they seem to know you tend to cut inside rather than go to the byline so they close inside, your shooting angle...
The clips are not fun probably, I play this way in PES often, close down the defense and run for counter attack and go direct to the opposition. So it might not be fun to watch for you but you can see some of the new features of the game. More videos will be uploaded in following days...
P.S: Since the squads are from June 2019 i don't have much enthusiasm to try teams that had good activity in the transfer market. I'd wait for the squad updates...
Overall I loved the game so far, i liked it a lot in demo and i start to like it more in full game, it feels authentic
Fouls and refs are great, clipping not allowed, fair and square

I felt the exact same thing on DEMO that's why i switched to superstar in DEMO. But in full game i switched back to top player because AI is really challenging. So in full game, don't worry, AI is aggressive, very !
Probably they toned down the aggresiveness of AI in demo intentionally for players to enjoy the game more.

I agree 100 %.
Hopefully full release will have better results! But I'm just basing off demo since not many options.
Menu still sloppy, but gameplay overall was smooth and good, using alternate controls, even shooting into the net felt smooth without restrictions.
pacing lanes were nice and directional was accurate, for the most part I liked everything.
