For months, fans of All Elite Wrestling have anxiously waited for new details to emerge regarding AEW’s upcoming wrestling video game, but not a whole lot has come to the surface. Sure, fans have had a chance to see a few of the characters’ models like Kenny Omega, Chris Jericho, Hikaru Shida, Jungle Boy, and Darby Allin, but not a whole lot of information has leaked.
That was true until recently when Fightful.com broke news last week of a rumored September 2022 release date. And although I don’t know whether or not this is true, the timing would be perfect for the holiday season. However, they did make sure to reiterate that a lot of work still needed to be done.
But the news didn’t stop there.
On Wednesday night, in front of a sold-out crowd in Pittsburgh, PA, fans were asked by Tony Khan to participate in the upcoming video game, chanting “fight forever” and a few wrestler-specific chants. Several of the chants were for recently signed wrestlers, sparking speculation that newly acquired signees like Adam Cole (Bay-Bay) and Bryan Danielson will find their way into the game. Perhaps even Samoa Joe makes an appearance.
Here’s AEW CEO Tony Khan announcing the name of the upcoming video game and some of the chants fans were asked to do at the event.
But arguably the biggest news from all of this is that we finally have a name for AEW’s first console video game.
The new AEW video game will be titled AEW Fight Forever according to those in attendance at this week’s AEW Dynamite taping.
This confirms a recent report from the Wrestling Observer that speculated the game could be called this after AEW trademarked the name to be used in the following ways:
“Downloadable game software; Downloadable computer game software; Downloadable electronic game software; Downloadable interactive game software; Video game discs; Downloadable video game programs; Downloadable video game software; Recorded video game programs; Recorded video game software.”
Also announced was the first-ever AEW and New Japan PPV called Forbidden Door. Couple that with Tony Khan’s recent purchase of Ring of Honor, and AEW Fight Forever should have a truly elite cast of superstars.
Now, let’s just hope the game releases later this year, so we can all recreate AEW All-Out.
