Madden NFL 18's Story Mode is Called Longshot, Features Multiple Levels of Football

EA Sports Madden NFL 18’s story mode will be called “Longshot” and will feature a character called Devin Wade. You will guide Devin from high school in Mathis, TX all the way through college and the pros.

Here are some additional details on Longshot:

  • It will be a playable sports movie. That means the character, Devin Wade is the playable character and you’ll play in a pretty linear fashion.
  • Longshot will feature moments from Devin’s pop warner days all the way through college.
  • You actually won’t play a single NFL game in the mode.
  • The story is an origins story that takes place between the NFL combine and NFL draft across a three-month window.
  • The story is a redemption story.
  • The mode is a ‘campaign mode’ but for sports.
  • There’ll be college football games you play in.
  • Devin Wade is a HS QB in Texas football and goes on to play FBS. Now he’s back with his all-heart but under-talented wide receiver best friend named Colt Cruise.
  • The blocking and acting are cinematic in nature.
  • There are multiple endings to the mode, and the choices you make have impacts on which of the endings you see.
  • 7-on-7 padless football is featured in the mode.
  • An interactive NFL combine is included. You’ll throw a route tree and take pocket movement drills.
  • Branching dialogue.
  • The mode will include a lot of education on the game of football.
  • Texas 7-on-7 leagues were observed to get the 7-on-7 action right.
  • There will be ultimate team awards available to those who participate in the mode, including Dan Marino.
  • 45 characters are included in the story.
  • Devin’s father is played by Mahershala Ali, an Oscar winner.

  1. People are going to be mad that they have a pre set character with their own back story and motivations. I cannot wait to see what this is all about!

This is a mode I would probably start around April or May after CFM has grown stale, and carry me through to August. Looks good!
My hope is in the future, perhaps they'll incorporate some tech to let you design your character from scratch ala Dragon Age & Mass Effect. Both of those show that your created character can be integrated into cut scenes. I'd love to see "me" go through a journey like this.
I'm looking forward to checking it out!

Looks like a basic rip off from 2k. What a waste of game space and development resources in my opinion. I really don't think Madden needs a single player mode. I would prefer that effort is put into franchise with a high trek or pregame show. Not excited. Cool that they have some college licenses though.
Looks cool reading off the EA website seems your character is tied to the qb position but wondering if you can play other positions

    I seen Dan Marino.
"My dad used to tell me, when you get knocked down, spout platitude cliches and make fans doubt your writing ability."

From a storytelling standpoint I'm not expecting much beyond a G-rated Friday Night Lights because I can't imagine the NFL will allow much more than that. Still looks like it might be pretty fun, though.
I won't be playing it but am glad for the people who have wanted a story mode in the game. Seeing the Texas Longhorns and Oregon Ducks uniforms really makes me wish we had a NCAA Football game.
Kind of disappointing, would much rather play an open ended career mode with cut scenes showing key moments of a NFL life than a scripted story line from what it looks like so far

I haven't really seen people wanting a story mode, from what see in past people wanted fully engaged open ended superstar career mode

So NBA Live gets a career mode with a custom player and Madden gets a Premade Alex Hunter-type story mode? I'm starting to wonder what EA is thinking.... why can't we just get something like 2K's My Career mode in Madden?
    bad_philanthropy
Just makes me want an NCAA game back. Obviously schools are willing to license, just give us generic and editable rosters.

Me too. I thought about NCAA the other day. The story mode in FIFA was terrible, so I will be interested to see if this is the same.

The story looks good....but those throwing animations still look bad.

this mode in my opinion is walmart spinners.. pretty pointless but hey you have spinners now

Didn't you guys want a more indepth "SuperStar" mode which is what this gives you? No?

This doesn't look anything like an in-depth Superstar mode. It looks like a movie with playable action sequences. I don't want to watch a game, I want t play a game.

Didn't you guys want a more indepth "SuperStar" mode which is what this gives you? No?

No this isnt a more in depth superstar mode. We are all more than likely gonna be the same guy, same position (QB), following the same storyline. I want to create my own guy, choose my position, and let my play and actions determine the story. With that said I am looking forward to trying this out. This should be something separate from superstar mode imo.

Someone on Reddit put it best. It's a story mode, not a career mode.
Don't expect customization or in-depth playability. The trailer still was pretty cool though, pretty cheesy but still might have to try it out. How long was FIFA's for those that played it in terms of hours?
I am sure the story mode appeals to some and that is great. I have no interest in it at all. I do not care if the mode is there, I just do not want it to take resources and time away from the rest of the game.
I'd be fine with it, if it was an in-depth mode where you start in high school, go through college, and then go through the NFL combine, scouting, Pro Day, and the NFL draft and then get drafted by a team and play through your career.
But it looks like you don't even get to play in the NFL.
It literally just stops after the NFL draft? That makes no sense at all.

"You never play an actual NFL game"
    ummm what????
So the story mode Long Shot experience never actually plays in an NFL game ....in a Madden NFL game.
LOL. Are we serious right now?

They just said on the stream one of the cool things about it is the emotion and stuff like feeling like you're actually hanging out with Dan Marino. Seems like a great time, LOL. That's a story mode though, if there isn't branching storylines then you can't really play it any other way than they intended it. If you're supposed to throw a TD it's easier to just cut scene it rather than make you go through the process. They did say you get to play the combine though so who knows.

Whattttttt!!!! Wow! What a waste of resources.
I thought it would be similar to Fifa's style. Never played it, but it is what it is however if they want to push/continue the innovative "story" route how about incorporating a "hardknocks" style narration for the CFM offseason that takes place after the draft that highlights position battles, camp walk-ons, camp injuries, standouts/underachievers, and cuts. A 6 week, weekly re-cap hardknocks style with clips and narration of the week that was until final cuts.
I'm pleasantly surprised. That actually blew me away. Well done EA. Now, let's keep chipping away at those NCAA licenses... NCAA 20???? 💥💥

Yes, this 1000x. And, to anyone who wants to argue that certain resources are for x, y, and z, I ask, 'how much did they have to pay Marino? The main star? Anyone else in the story?' And, whatever devs they hired (maybe, they hired extra devs?), etc. Any/all of that money and resources could always go into hiring more devs to transform the animations, or create a weekly wrap up show in CFM, etc.
A story mode in a sports game just isn't needed at all. So strange. Although, as others have said, I get it if u want to create your OWN player, especially if u scan your own face and whatnot, and insert yourself into the draft or on your team in CFM or something. Or, simply have your own career outside CFM, somehow. I think football is always a little tricky here. While, u can create a story and have a career, it's just hard to work that into a career. Whereas, specifically related to basketball, u can absolutely create a bball player, play street ball, play in the NBA, etc. The NBA live thing looked cool (I think it was similar to 2k, but I've never played that mode much, so not sure how similar it was). There just seems like more options available. Football is 11 v 11, and that sort of makes it different, imo.
If the story ends with u getting drafted or picked up as a free agent to start your CFM, that might be interesting. But, it sounds like this is not the case. Yeah, Rex even said in an earlier interview he was hoping for more from the current story mode. So, maybe he wanted that type of functionality with the story character being added to CFM, or MUT, actually. At the end of the story, he could become a MUT card or something. And, based on your choices, he has different attributes or something.

I remember hearing one of their taglines before being something like story mode was something only possible on Frostbite which gives me a bit of confidence that the rest of the game won't have many issues with the transition. We shall see though. Hard to believe this and a couple screens was all we got from their conference today.

I don't know, brother. This seems about right. They're really sold on their story mode, so they shoehorned it in as their staple to the EA Play audience, which honestly isn't us here. On top of not seeing any gameplay until the upcoming week(s), all of which will be two minute videos from the GCs harping on the same concepts, we weren't intended to see much today. Time to just sit and wait (and pray) for the developer blogs. Hopefully there's some solid CFM info, I need something to distract me from MADDEN: The Movie.
This is even more of a waste then I thought..u don't even get to play a game as the character..at least in story modes in shooters u still have to play the game..even worse this was part of there 4 year window. I'm shocked
One more thing..if I want to watch a movie I watch a movie..not watch it on a Madden game

I know what EA is doing, this is the first year of Longshot. So they're going to make it nice cinemeatic story then for Madden 19 they'll hype Longshot 2 as the true Longshot mode because guess what...WE CAN PLAY ACTUAL NFL GAMES IN THIS YEAR MADDEN!
    This is just amazing
100% sarcasm and lol at this. A movie you can play!? Haha what?!
    For some MUT rewards?!

you can't play in the NFL... but you can play NFL in EVERY other mode. Fight night was one of the best sports games because of the story mode IMO. So madden makes a Story mode where you can play in High School and college. Seems like people will have fun switching from NFL to get maybe a different aspect of football. Doesn't seem like a bad idea.

It reminds me of that time in the 90's when pre-rendered FMV cut scenes would blow gamers away. This sort of presentation seems dated. I thought we were starting to move on from games as a medium for static story telling.
Yeah this mode is going to be a waste of time, I definitely wont be playing it. It reminds me of both Spike Lee's NBA 2K16 "Movie" and The Journey, both of which I hated. If I wanted to watch a Football movie I'd watch "Friday Night Lights", "The Replacements", "Gridiron Gang" etc. So where do we go to tell EA we don't want this and to give us a Career Mode like NBA 2K17 My Career or The Show's Road to the Show?

Yup. Here's a quote that just kicks me right in the nads.
"characters that might take a month to make despite being in only one scene. No being cheap, no cutting corners"
I want a weekly wrap up show so bad to make franchise more immersive. I'm not saying it would be easy, but, in essence, it's sort of movie quality, or it's part cut scene, part simulation football cut scene creation. So, they would have to be able to generate stuff in game. I admit, I don't know how easy or hard that would be. But, to have them work on this for 4 years and 'need frostbite' for it, and say things like, 'no being cheap'. Lol. Give me a weekly show! That would constantly give more bang for the buck for franchise players. And, if done well enough, maybe it would bring in the people that are actually going to enjoy this pointless mode. Lol.
Yeah, I just don't get this at all. Sports games aren't supposed to have campaigns, nor do they need it. It's a sport. U like the sport, u buy the game. This story will be over very quickly, I imagine. And, how much did it cost ea? When, they could've put that money into making CFM more interactive, making animations better, etc.
And, don't get me wrong, we haven't seen the true gameplay, yet. So, maybe they also added those things. But, wow, this just seems like a huge waste of money and time on their end. I'm really not sure how many casuals are suddenly going to play madden because now it has a story mode. So, I don't want to hear that arg. I think madden's upper management has serious issues with understanding what should go into a good football game. Lol. But, I see that in my job as well. So, que sera sera.

This just sounds like a giant waste of time. I would've rather had them put in more dialogue for commentary, a weekly wrap up show, pre game show, better half time show. Anything. It just seems like a waste. So long as the actual game is improved I won't mind. They have the same thing in MLB the Show and NBA 2k. So I think Madden was just following suit.
I'm not going to knock it until I've tried it, it's definitely something different and I give EA credit for trying a story mode. I can see why the main character would not be customizable for the sake of the story. I'll be playing this as one of the first things I do when M18 comes out.

I'm just happy seeing real college teams in a EA game. Gives me a little hope of a future return of a Ncaa game..

    I can't like this enough brother...even though you're a Duke fan. #GoHeels
I thought the story mode in FIFA this year was laughably bad (just like the Spike Lee NBA 2k one). I guess there's data that shows this stuff helps move units? Otherwise, I can't understand the investment. Did anyone ever ask for this?
Think of the additions they could've made to CFM with all the resources they poured into a mode that doesn't even have NFL games in it. I was actually looking forward to this mode but this sounds stupid now. Start with the combine. Go to the draft. Go to a team. Simple. Can't believe they messed this up.

Obviously EA has rights to create college content. Texas and Oregon both appeared in Madden trailer

They have the right to put Oregon and Texas uniforms in the game. Completely fictional players.

At first I was like WTF, you don't even get to play an NFL game, but now I'm like "So." I'm actually excited their doing something new. We all complain about how routine the series has become in certain areas, how stale it's been, and now their doing something different and creative and everyone is so negative about it.
I used to be the guy who wanted a franchise mode and owner mode to get a team to the super bowl and draft players the following year etc. That was me 5-10 years ago. I couldn't tell you the last time I actually played the franchise mode and got to week 8. I usually only do Play Now with my siblings or play games online, nothing crazy competitive though.
Their branching out and I'm actually excited now. I enjoy playing Madden and this new mode, even though it doesn't lengthy will at least keep me entertained.
The good thing here is their not removing any of the other features, so people who want owner mode and the other stuff, it's still there. This is to draw in a new crowd.
My brother in law picked up 2k17 for me and my wife and she was hooked on their "super star " story mode. She played it until the end and she doesn't care for the career mode etc, I don't know what hooked her, but something in that story mode got it. After she beat it, she never picked up the game again. I see this feature here in a similar light. Everyone who wants the hardcore owner mode, it's still here, this is to draw in the crowd that likes movies like Friday Night Lights, the casual gamers who dip in Madden but don't do so every year, or better yet, this mode like in my case appeals to my wife who won't care touch the owner/franchise mode of any sports game.
Well at least we know what Madden 19 story mode will be... :frown::frown:
I don't understand why these modes are so short instead of building the skeleton and then adding more meat as the years progress. Playing no NFL games in this literally means there will no connection between the player's story and his career assuming you can just continue into being a player. I would rather see them have something like Combine/Draft, training camp,1st Pro Bowl, Super Bowl, retirement/Hall of fame interactions and cut scenes and then build off of that. Having the mini games and "Gruden" style camp is cool and should help some of us learn a thing or two but could have been added next year. We do have branching stories though which provides some excitement

I spy a Texas Longhorns helmet/uniform! Oregon as well...guess they are getting licenses like NBA 2K.

    OREGON AND TEXAS?!?
Just seeing that brings back NCAA memories. If they give us a chance to play college football, I might just play that over and over.
I hope the use of these logos and schools leaks over into franchise mode. PLEASE!!!
Why EA, Why?   ..Oh well, we now live in a world of reality TV shows and movies and people eat that stuff up so EA is looking to cash in on it. Not surprised or shocked.
What I am looking forward to is the actual Madden game play. Hope we see some soon.  It should be interesting.
Yikes...the fact that you don't even play in any NFL games in this mode is...wow. I always try to give Madden/EA the benefit of the doubt but good lord.

I hear you. But the thing is, even in FIFA 17's Journey Story mode you got to play in the actual games in the Premeire League. In NBA 2k17 you got to play in the actual games while in the NBA.
I don't understand the logic behind starting your story with a kid out of high school, then going to college, but then the story mode ends after the Draft and you don't get to play in any NFL games?
Like why? There's no reason to do this in an "NFL game". Like if they want to continue the story into Madden 19 fine, but continue it by having us get traded or released to FA and picked up by another team, or SOMETHING.
I didn't like MLB The Show's Pave your Path mode, but that's even better than this is right now. Geeeesh.
Sweet! I'm not a fan of career modes. I much prefer a linear story to play like a campaign. Plus, it'll teach football concepts so that's a plus. College Football in whatever capacity is a very welcome addition, too. I've grown indifferent towards Madden because of the weak CFM (I know, 100% usage increase or whatever...) but this here has provided a little spark I must say.

I know, any NFL game with a story mode where you play zero games in the NFL, just seems like there's something off about it. I know we'll here we ran out of time, we will build on in next year yadda yadda.
Wouldn't be surprised to see carry over saves introduced as a new feature in madden 19
I am a big career mode player in sports games. That's the main thing I do in sports game. But I am disappointed in this idea. Surely I will try this out. But this seems like a mode that will only take a few hours to beat.
“Our philosophy was a playable movie, versus, like, a career mode with cutscenes,”
Umm, I rather have a career mode with cutscenes than a playable movie. I rather not basically have the same experience as everyone else and it is a mode you will only really want to play once. Even when they allow you to play NFL games, I honestly do even play with QBs that often in Madden career modes.
As long as the ability to play/create as individual players in CFM is still there, then I will stick to that

I agree with the exception of editing rosters. Not to get too off topic but I think EA, like 2K will go to the extremes to not even have the ability of have real players' likeness in their games again. It's too much of a gray area for the companies, schools and conferences. It's a trade off I'm more than happy to make if it means the return of college games though.

As long as the ability to play/create as individual players in CFM is still there, then I will stick to that

What does the whole playable movie thing even mean? You get to watch games and play the important situation? I'm really starting to feel there won't be any full games being played in this mode and it bums me out
That must be a joke. I'd have thought with the money they pumped into this mode they'd have hired a writer who'd know better that to write a scene where your dad's dying wish is for you to win a football game.

It really bums me out too. This year, I feel like this mode only deals with drills that's it. I saw 7x7 padless drill in an article. Starting in Regional Combine, than Combine. There will be decision making things, but I don't you even play a game at all.
I don't see the fascination in making the direction of this game being Cinematic. I don't want watch a football movie, I want to play a football game.
I will just do player mode in CFM
And now I know Mahershala Ali, the saving grace of all of this, won't make it. Nothing like spoilers a few months ahead of time. Whoop!

Yea but player mode CFM is just so dry and boring. If any they had the foresight to combine the two modes lol. Seriously usually when we get a new engine we get a stripped down version of the game in some manner, I'm glad they got what seems to be the foundation for the mode in. I don't think it's unreasonable that they ran out of time and just couldn't get the mode finished for this year.

Or at least just wait until next year when it is completely finished.
Player mode CFM is dry and boring at times. But it seems better than this mode this year. If they could just add cutscenes to that mode, then that would be great.
    Not my cup of tea.
Even though I wouldn't play it much*, I was hoping for a more open ended career mode that had microtransactions. I know what you are thinking, "this dude was hoping for microtransactions? Has he bumped his head?"
If it generates revenue they could increase their budget. I don't think it is a coincidence that 2k can make the improvements to NBA each year after myplayer took off.
But now you guys get a linear story without microtransactions which means instead of adding to the team's resources it only takes away.
*I'd probably run a career mode if I could play as a CB and it was a deep mode.

I'm pretty sure there are many people who spends hundreds of dollars a year just in MyPlayer. So they're making millions of dollars alone in just microtransactions
Totally......NOT interested. The only thing I can imagine is the time and effort put into this could've been better utilized in franchise, CFM, half time shows, pre game shows, etc. I'm pretty sure that was LOTS of dev time. Wasted in my opinion.

Exactly. I really don't think they could justify separate myleague and myGM modes if it wasn't for that extra revenue.
If a career type mode is going to be in the game anyway, have microtransactions and kick some of that money to franchise development lol

But in 2k you can create a virtual big six conference setup to have a "college hoops" experience. If EA could give us that, I'd take it.
    SolidSquid
I know, any NFL game with a story mode where you play zero games in the NFL, just seems like there's something off about it. I know we'll here we ran out of time, we will build on in next year yadda yadda.
Wouldn't be surprised to see carry over saves introduced as a new feature in madden 19

It's exactly what they did with FIFA's "the Journey", you can carry over your saves from FIFA 17 to 18.

So this begs the question... Do we still have the option to play as an existing player o create a player in CFM?

I don't see why not. The longshot mode looks to be more of a interactive movie. It wouldn't replace superstar mode as it ends when you get drafted.

MyLeague is a sandbox that's only limited to your imagination. Its all user generated. I was talking in respect to the actual college teams. In MyCareer for instance, you can't even name your MyPlayer after a real student athlete on certain teams, the game won't let you. All the players on the teams are generic looking and can't be edited in any way. The college alumni teams bundle cant be edited in any way. I take this as the company and schools being super careful to avoid any "likeness" stuff. I don't blame them. That's the crux of the NCAA litigation.
So I think we have to accept that if we hope to see NCAA again, there won't be a way to have real, current student athletes on the teams. I dont see any kindof roster Edit or share anymore because everyone knows whatll happen. At this point, as long as I can get some college anything with the schools, stadiums and atmosphere I'd take it.

MyLeague is ok with me. I would edit any rosters on a real NCAA game anyway. The logos and courts are there so in essence, it's all I need.
what a waste of effort if it isnt customisable or continues like ss mode, some genius in marketing loved the idea and wouldnt let go
can they fix/include stuff thats important first please?
I've never really gotten into any of the story modes of sports games before. Heck, I've never even really played superstar mode in Madden either or Campus Legend for NCAA but this looks pretty interesting. I'm going to enjoy playing the Pop Warner and college games, especially since I'm a huge Texas Longhorns fan! This mode will be enough to hold me over until CFM rosters are ready for Week 1.

This is gonna make me miss NCAA series that much more. That was actually a pretty damn cool trailer.

No kidding! I would take NCAA 14 ported over to the new engine and everything if that meant I got to play a "new" NCAA game.

I'm pleasantly surprised. That actually blew me away. Well done EA. Now, let's keep chipping away at those NCAA licenses... NCAA 20???? 💥💥

I may jump into a bit, because one of the things they said is that it will have some good "football lessons" in the mode. I think Mike Young described it as a bit like Gruden Camp. They are also going to have position drills and the like. That kind of stuff has my interest.
As for continuing the story, that is my impression as well. This will be the first part of a series of sorts.

You can pick any position you like as long as it's quarterback.
For real the only way this appeals to me is if there is a lot of divergence in how you can go with it. If it's totally on rails and you're just playing through some game scenerios I couldn't care less. If I can make choices that actually change the outcome I might have a few beers and go through it a couple times.

The main focus that they need to add is carry over saves for CFM. Listen
*It’s easy to point and say, “How dumb could theybe to add such a useless feature and waste so much time and resources? I’ll
never play it", or whatever the case may be. But let’s say it with some constructive criticism, actual thought and reasoning.*
The time is now to speak up and demand that thissimple yet powerful and immersive feature should be included across all sports
games.(Carry over franchise saves year to year) When we think of sports, we think of dynasty’s and how they were built
and how they crumbled right before our eyes decades later. That should be the
main focus of all sports games, not focused on just one individual player and
their personal story into the league. There are a limitless number of stories
of how players made it to their respected leagues, and one story per year that
is scripted that EA picks based on who knows what, should not be the focus
right now. Now is not the time to be adding new modes when all of the current
ones are either broke, not functional, incomplete, or better yet when the core
of a sports franchise isn’t there at all.* **
Let us carry over CFM year to year with eachrelease. We lose interest in rewriting our history year after year, look at Tom
Brady and his real situation with the Patriots. Should they resign the QB in
waiting or trade him? That’s a real situation that will have a domino effect in
NFL history and our Madden history but can never be truly implemented in Madden. But in actuality it can, if and only if, we do it in Madden 17 and still play 17 even though the
new 18 is out (about to be out). That story will only live on in our Madden 17
CFM universe. It feels like “Connected Franchise” isn’t really connected, that
was a glaring missed opportunity to market CFM in that way, connect last years
franchise to this year. Now that would be Madden like we never seen it before.*
Give us single player story modes after carry over year to year saves are included, just in case we may not be interested in that story mode.*
    Any cosigners?
Focus on year to year saves in CFM.
Single player story modes should be third behind gameplay, and year to year saves. What ever happened to a true sports dynasty where we could watch our dynasties rise and fall through out our Madden universe.  Connected Franchise isn't really connected, that was a glaring missed opportunity to market CFM that way. Connect last years franchise to this year now that would be, Madden like we never seen before.
Bring year to year saves to CFM
My only take from reading off another thread. I read they've been working on this for 4 years now.. if that's the case; why would you implement it in a way that has no customization and features no NFL games played?
It's an NFL game ... it'll be cool
Story modes that don't include character customization or gameplay from the respective league. Sounds very madden esque

My big question is do we actually play a game at all this year in this Origin story? I know the story takes place from High School to Draft. That we participate in Regional & NFL Combine, 7x7 drills, other drills as a QB. But do we play a full game in HS or at Texas University? It would be disappointing if the only option is we only play a few downs in an actual game in this mode.
No. No NFL game. I think they either wanted that, and didn't have time. Or, they may have a strategy to go year to year to year. This one def does not go into the NFL and u do not play an NFL game. However, perhaps, in M19, u enter the NFL, play a game or 2. Who knows? How bout this:
M19. U play 1-3 seasons or various important games in those seasons. They set it up so u get to the Super Bowl but LOSE!!
M20. U get back to the Super Bowl after facing your main rival in playoffs and beating them. U win this time. You're the super bowl MVP.
M21. You've now won 5 Super Bowls, and need one more to beat tom Brady. Lol. U win another and become the GOAT!!!
M22. New character created. Whole sequence repeated.

They definitely wanted it. They spent four years on this, they had time to do literally whatever they wanted. I think they plan on doing it year-to-year and essentially being a campaign mode for Madden. I saw a similar thought posted on Reddit:
Only to be continued... Buy Madden 19 to see how your guy does in his rookie season! Featuring all new voice overs by popular retired stars!
And coming in 2020, can you sustain the success of earning OPOY in your sophomore season to make a Pro Bowl?
Then, in 2021... Individual acclaim is great, but it's time for the team to step up. Will Devin finally lead his team to a Wild Card playoff spot?
In 2022, can you win a playoff game?
In 2023, can you make it to the Super Bowl?
In 2024, after a disappointing loss in the Championship, can you finally win it all?
In 2025, can you come back from injury, or will a talented rookie steal your spot?

He was being sarcastic but I could definitely see them going down that path.
And despite what Rex said about them being able to jump off depending on community feedback I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell it goes anywhere any time soon. It's obviously the higher ups baby and you're not going to spend four years and take so many resources away from other parts of the game just to bail after one no matter how badly it's received.

It would be disappointing if you only play a few snaps of a game and just see cinematic scenes. It seems like this mode could be completed with a few hours. That would be very disappointing
The way they've described the Longshot timeline so far is that it takes place between the Combine and the Draft. My bet is that all the games will be flashback memories or flashbacks during interviews to determine your answer, with the result of all the flashback results and answers determining your draft position and which of the various endings you will get.
Whether the flashbacks will allow a full season of High School/College football etc or whether it will be a Play the Moment style storyline with a few scripted games I have no idea? I'm hoping it is enough games to feel satisfied and with the absence of NFL games it needs to feel like enough.

Yeah, I don't get that decision either. As someone said, why not just make it so your character can be added to whatever team drafts you and story mode then ends and you play Superstar mode or whatever? But with that being said I am still excited for the story mode. Maybe I'm a weirdo, at least here on OS, but this looks pretty cool to me.
I've enjoyed the story mode in sports games every since the Spike Lee NBA game story a while back. I think it really adds something a lot different than the typical exhibitions, online and season/franchise modes.

My guess is it'll be like NBA, The Show and other games story modes where you are put in the championship game or the playoffs of whatever area you are in and just play shortened versions of those games.
In an of itself this looks really, really cool. The major complaints I've seen is that (a) it took resources away from Franchise and (b) it doesn't appear you can use your player beyond this mode.
If those are both true, I STILL want Longshot to be successful for the simple reason that in the future it could be integrated into Franchise mode.
I imagine maybe you'd be able to either go with the generated drafts or load your "Longshot" draft at any given year, which would be awesome. Especially if going forward the commentary remembers Devin Wade, lol (or whoever it is in the future).

I want to know if we play those games. Like you said I just think we just do certain plays. I don't we even play a full game(at least 4 5-minute quarters) in Longshot mode. I hope I'm wrong, but I think those games will mainly show Cinematic scenes and just do certain plays at end of game.

It will be like the opening game/cutscenes for the past 3 maddens. You'll have to score a td or fg to tie the game then lead a game winning drive or something. It's just gonna be a whole lot of situational gameplay and not full games.
