Spear Interactive has shared a new development update for Varsity High School Football giving fans a look at how the game is coming along in several key areas.
Work on 7-on-7 gameplay continues to move forward with quarterbacks, wideouts and defensive backs now on the field. DBs can play both man and zone coverage and acceleration has been tuned with a new “time to max speed” system. The team also plans to start modeling proper 7-on-7 gear, like t-shirts and equipment later this month.

Recent playtests confirmed that server uploads are working, allowing players to share created teams. This sets the stage for custom teams to be created, downloaded and imported directly into dynasty mode.
Training simulations have received a performance boost, cutting the time it takes to process decisions and outcomes for all teams in a state’s classification from a full minute to just one second. The developers have also built new training analysis tools to spot trends, fix logic issues and fine-tune how both users and CPU teams approach training.
Playtesting has been steady throughout the year with 10 sessions completed since February and more than 300 players opting in. Early tests averaged around 10 participants, but recent ones have been pulling in closer to 50 players every six to eight weeks. Looking ahead, Spear Interactive expects to roll out 7-on-7 playtests for Patreon supporters this winter.
Fans who want to take part in the playtest can do so by backing the project on Patreon. The full game is planned for Xbox and PlayStation but for now testing is only available on Steam for PC.
