Varsity High School Football Devs Provide Latest Details and Playtest #3 Dates

Spear Interactive has shared another development update for Varsity High School Football, giving fans a closer look at how things are progressing as work on the game continues. On the gameplay side, stat tracking has been added during games with box scores now appearing at halftime and at the end of each matchup. Those numbers are also used to determine the Player of the Game. The 7on7 mode has expanded and now features 32 teams, each with their own archetypes and traits.

Customization options are growing with the ability to generate full rosters for created teams and edit players individually, including their equipment. The team says the next steps include jersey customization, recoloring the logos and allowing users to upload their own logos. Motion capture work has also continued, adding new juke moves and end zone celebrations along with additional receiver animations like sideline catches, toe drags and effort catches captured during a recent session with a CFL wide receiver.

Winter 7on7 Playtest #3 is scheduled to run from March 20 through March 25 and will include full 7on7 exhibition gameplay, a knockout tournament mode, team customization, AI vs AI with a broadcast camera, along with recently added local multiplayer and Coach Mode. The developers are exploring an early 2026 release for a standalone Varsity 7on7 experience on PC first, but nothing official has been announced.
