Today, we will round up everything we know so far about the remake of this iconic game series. This article will be updated every time we learn anything more about the game as well.

By looking at the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 remake, we can make some assumptions about what we will see in the new remake and how the gameplay might change.

Overview Of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4

Tony is back with another complete overhaul of the iconic Pro Skater series. Like the THPS 1 + 2 remake, we see two editions of the series grouped together in one game, this time featuring the last two games of the original series.

The recent remake was a great success, and the gameplay, not just the nostalgia, had THPS fans more than satisfied. The game looks great, and it is so fun to see the maps being completely reimagined with the technology available in game development today.

One point to note is that the developers are changing from Vicarious Visions, who did the first THPS remake, to Iron Galaxy. Activision has assured us the gameplay and other features will translate into a similar experience, so we don’t think this will make a noticeable difference to the average player.

Expect to see all your favorite maps and skaters from the original games, plus a whole lot more. Like the recent remake, this new one will have the exact same gameplay and controls from the past but with more reliable controls and smoother transitions.

Skateboarders are in for an absolute treat this year now that two skateboarding games are right around the corner. Unlike EA Skate, THPS 3 + 4 will follow the usual paid game format. The new PSL skateboarding competition series also just launched, so it’s a great time for fans of the sport or people who are looking to find an exciting new hobby.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 Release Date

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 will be released on July 11 this year.

The game will be available on all major gaming platforms, including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 Pre-Order

You can pre-order Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 right now from a range of platforms. These include the PlayStation store, Xbox store, Steam, Nintendo eShop, Microsoft Windows store, and Battle.net.

Digital Deluxe Edition

For an additional price, you can grab the Digital Deluxe Edition, which comes with a range of exclusive offers.

Doom Slayer And Revenant Characters

Doom fans will be shocked to see that the Digital Deluxe Edition includes a complete Doom takeover, featuring two iconic characters taking the role of pro skateboarders. You can play as “The Doom Slayer” and “The Revenant,” both with two of their own secret moves.

If you remember playing THPS 3, you will remember that Doomguy was one of the additional playable characters in the game. So, it’s good to see that the franchise is giving its dedicated fans a throwback to original special features.

Doom Slayer will come with a secondary outfit, and you can also ride the Unmaykr Hoverboard. The Unmaykr is a secret weapon from Doom Eternal. Having this weapon as a skateboard will make every grind look super crusty. And a hoverboard always adds an exciting sci-fi touch to the game.

The game will also include some of the iconic headbangers from the Doom series. This music is perfect to get you in the mood for sending big jumps and setting up insane combos.

Along with all these options above, you get a selection of Doom apparel and Doom-themed skateboards. These are perfect for Doom fans who want to keep it simple and represent their favorite game without playing as the characters.

Early Access

If you buy this edition, you get early access to the full game three days before release. Activision has noted that this date may be subject to change and can vary across different time zones.

Foundry Demo

The Digital Deluxe Edition also gives you access to the Foundry demo in June, a whole month before the game is due to be released to the public. The Foundry demo will feature two playable parks, two skaters, and a selection of music.

As the name suggests, one of the maps you will get early access to will be the iconic Foundry level from THPS 3. We can confirm this by looking at the name of the demo and the screenshots posted on the THPS 3 + 4 website.

The Foundry map looks amazing, and the Iron Galaxy team has done a great job reimagining the factory setting and making it look super gritty and industrial. It’s going to be really cool to see how the “Grind the Molten Bucket” challenge will look.

Wireframe Tony Shader

In addition to the Doom-themed benefits, a pre-order of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 will include the “Wireframe Tony” shader. This holographic rendition of Tony Hawk will add an extra flair to your special moves.

Collector’s Edition

The Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 Collector’s Edition comes with a Birdhouse board featuring Hawk’s iconic Wings graphic. The board has a signature and the title of the game printed directly onto it.

If you picked up the board from Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 Collector’s Edition, you should pick this up to add to the board wall.

The Collector’s Edition comes with a hard copy of the game and all the Digital Deluxe features.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 Features

Gameplay

The game is completely built from the ground up while keeping the same accessible mechanics we love. Although the game will look different, playing it should still be second nature to THPS veterans, just like the THPS 1 + 2 remake.

The game will also feature some new tricks. We expect to see some special moves, but we will also see some regular skate tricks added to the series.

An important aspect to note is that THPS 4 was the first game to feature sessions that were not timed. The THPS website mentions that the levels will include “streamlined goals in a two-minute format.” So, we think the levels from THPS 4 will take the same format as what we have seen in the THPS 1 + 2 remake. They might also throw in the classic THPS 4 campaign, but this is yet to be confirmed.

New Game +

For the first time in a THPS series, we see a feature that allows you to replay the game without losing any data from your playthrough. I am not entirely sure how this will look, but it’s great that Iron Galaxy is considering the replay factor when developing the game.

The THPS website tells us that “Shred harder than ever in New Game+! Retain the stats you earned in your first playthrough and perfect your skills across every park in the game.” So, we assume we can just go back through the levels again and keep the rewards and stats we have earned.

Skaters

From the trailer, we can see these skaters featured in the new Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4

  • Tony Hawk
  • Andrew Reynolds
  • Chad Muska
  • Steve Caballero
  • Elissa Steamer
  • Nyjah Huston
  • Lizzie Armanto
  • Chloe Covell (New to the series)
  • Rayssa Leal (New to the series)
  • Yuto Horigome (New to the series)
  • Zion Wright (New to the series)
  • Jamie Foy (New to the series)

Tony Hark recently met with Steve Caballero, Kareem Campbell, Eric Koston, and Rodney Mullen. All these pros were featured in the first edition, and as the meet-up was promoting the date of the announcement, we assume they will all be featured in THPS 3 + 4

We also expect to see:

  • Geoff Rowley
  • Bucky Lasek
  • Jamie Thomas
  • Rune Gilfberg
  • Bob Burnquist

The most controversial piece of news about this new THPS is whether we will see the appearance of Bam Margera. Bam first appeared in THPS 3 and became a huge part of the series, even to the point that his family appeared in the subsequent games. However, due to his unfortunate relationships with old friends and other reasons, it may be unlikely we will see him in the series at all.

The main evidence we have for him not featuring in the upcoming series is that in the Hangar level in the recent THPS 1 + 2 remake, there was an edited poster of Tony Hawk’s Underground 2. This poster is of the game’s cover, and they have edited out Bam completely from the image. This doesn’t mean he won’t be in the game — it could be due to other issues.

It is nice to see new pro skaters added to the lineup. In addition to these new characters, THPS has confirmed that each skater will have unique tricks.

Create-A-Skater

Like every THPS game, there will be a create-a-skater mode that allows us to customize our avatar and incorporate our own style into the game. This is not only beneficial for unlocking new apparel but also allows us to live our dreams of being ridiculously good at skating.

THPS has announced that it will include “in-depth customization options for hair, tattoos, makeup, and more. Pick your skater’s name, hometown, and skating style and start making a name for yourself!” So, we expect the create-a-skater options to be more detailed than ever, like in the THPS 1 + 2 remake.

Soundtrack

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater soundtracks are among the most iconic playlists in video game history. To this day, I still see tribute bands that strictly play THPS songs. The soundtracks feature songs that encapsulate skating in the 1980s and ’90s. They’re full of punk rock, hip-hop, and heavy metal, perfect genres to reflect the gritty environment of street skating.

From the release trailer, we start with an absolute banger, “Ace of Spades” by Motörhead. This is THE song to feature if you want THPS fans to get excited. This song was featured in THPS 3 and will have to return after being featured in the trailer.

IGN, Tony Hawk’s Games Wiki, and other online networks have a set of supposedly confirmed songs for the new game, but I haven’t seen any evidence of these confirmations yet.

Regardless, here is the list they have released:

  • “Amoeba” by Adolescent
  • “Ace of Spades” by Motorhead
  • “Mass Appeal” by Gang Starr
  • “96 Quite Bitter Beings” by CK
  • “Not the Same” by Bodyjar
  • “Outta Here” by KRS-One (New to the series)

Locations/Skateparks

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 will feature a completely new level. We get an epic teaser at the end of the trailer that overlooks an abandoned and dried-out water park. A whole section on the THPS website also guides us around the new park. This new park, entitled “Waterpark,” is the perfect setting to include loads of options for big air and long grinds. It’s going to fit in perfectly with the other maps in the series.

Also, when discussing these new additions, the game’s website refers to the new parks in the plural, meaning we won’t just see Waterpark in the new lineup but probably a few more!

Considering the trailer, these are the levels confirmed to be in THPS 3 + 4

  • Foundry
  • College
  • Alcatraz
  • Airport
  • Rio
  • Canada
  • Los Angeles
  • Tokyo
  • Cruise Ship
  • Waterpark

Create-A-Park

It is also confirmed that create-a-park will return in THPS 3 + 4. This feature has been in several THPS games and continues to be successful in its most recent edition. The most successful element is the customization once you have laid the ramps down. You can then add, elongate, and change the shape of the ramp, making getting creative super easy.

In THPS 1 + 2, we were able to play with other user-created parks. I am sure this will be a feature that returns. One feature that everyone wants to see added is the ability to set your own challenges inside your park. This could range from trick points to achieve to laying down your own “SKATE.”

Multiplayer/Online

The biggest news about online gameplay in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 is that it will be cross-platform. This is huge news as it became increasingly difficult to find online multiplayer games after the initial release of THPS 1 + 2. Not only does this mean that we can actually play online versus modes, but it also means we will be able to access and play in more create-a-parks.

THPS 3 + 4 online will support up to eight players in a single session. You will be able to battle your opponents or just cruise around in a Free Skate mode. Combining these accessible game modes and cross-play means the communal playability of the new THPS will be better than ever.

In addition to these, we will also see split-screen multiplayer in the new game. This is an important part of THPS nostalgia. All of the new skate games have eliminated split-screen options. So, it’s important to us that we are able to share this game how we used to play back in the day. This is particularly important as many people who played the original games have kids now, so they will want to share their childhood with the new generation.
