Many players who dominate offline modes struggle once they enter ranked or events in Diamond Dynasty. The good news is that improving your online hitting is less about reaction speed and more about approach, discipline, and practice.

Here are some of the best tips to help you start making consistent contact and scoring more runs online.

Use The Correct Settings

Tweaking your settings is the first thing you should do when you start in MLB The Show 26, especially if you are a beginner. These settings can make you hit much more consistently, and you’ll find yourself missing less. Most of these settings are personal preference, but there are some community-approved settings that you should know about.

First is the Hitting Interface. Zone is the most commonly used, and it’s also what we would recommend. Next is your PCI Sensitivity, which controls how fast or slow the PCI moves. Veterans prefer the highest PCI sensitivity as it allows you to react quicker, but if you are starting out, try going 65-70% first.

Next up is Camera Settings. For starters, Strike Zone and Strike Zone High are the best options as they give the most zoomed-in. A closer camera gives you a better look at breaking balls and makes it easier to identify pitches that are leaving the strike zone.

But feel free to experiment with the other camera settings as well.

Use PCI Placement Before The Pitch

One of the most important habits for online hitting is pre-pitch PCI placement. Instead of leaving the Plate Coverage Indicator in the middle of the strike zone, try placing it in areas where you expect the pitch to be thrown. It’s like crosshair placement in shooters.

Many pitchers online tend to target predictable spots like fastballs high and in, or breaking balls below the knees. By starting your PCI at the top of the zone and/or toward the inside corner, you shorten the distance your thumb needs to travel if a pitcher tries to jam you. This makes it so you only have to make microadjustments to hit the ball instead of flicking the PCI reactively.

This technique helps you react faster to common pitch locations while still giving you enough room to adjust if the pitch moves somewhere else.

Learn To Recognize Pitch Patterns

Online players rarely throw completely random pitches. Most people fall into patterns without even realizing it.

For example, many players will throw a fastball early in the count and then try to finish hitters with a breaking ball below the strike zone. Others rely heavily on breaking stuff to get you out in front.

Instead of swinging immediately at every strike, spend the first few innings observing your opponent’s habits. Pay attention to what pitches they throw when ahead in the count and where they like to locate them. Once you identify those tendencies, hitting becomes much easier because you can begin anticipating the pitch before it’s even thrown.

A good way to see if patterns are emerging is to use the game’s built-in tool. When paused, do the following:

  • Go to Stats
  • Select Pitcher Analysis
  • Tab over to Custom Filters

This will give you a comprehensive look at where previous pitches have been spotted.

Be Patient At The Plate

Patience is one of the most underrated skills in online play.

A lot of players swing at the first strike they see, which often leads to weak contact or easy outs. Good hitters understand that forcing a pitcher into deeper counts increases the chances of getting a mistake pitch.

Taking pitches early in the at-bat also gives you valuable information about your opponent’s pitching strategy. Even if you fall behind in the count, seeing two or three pitches can reveal patterns that help later in the game.

Practice On Higher Difficulties

Offline practice can still help improve online performance if you use the right settings.

Try practicing hitting on Hall of Fame, Legend, or even G.O.A.T difficulty, which increases pitch speeds and tightens timing windows. When you return to normal online difficulties, pitches will feel slower and easier to track.

There are multiple ways to practice. For starters, go into Practice and choose a pitcher with variations, and then turn on all the Pitch Locations. This will help you practice how to read different types of pitches.

Pro tip: Practice against a pitcher with a high velo fastball.

Stay Calm After Strikeouts

Online games in MLB The Show often involve streaky offense. Even great hitters strike out multiple times per game, especially against skilled opponents.

The worst thing you can do after a bad at-bat is start swinging at everything out of frustration. When that happens, pitchers quickly realize they can throw pitches outside the zone and get easy outs.

Instead, reset your approach each time you step to the plate. Focus on your timing, watch the ball out of the pitcher’s hand, and wait for a pitch you can drive.
