PGA TOUR 2K21 Adds Hot Dog & Taco Putters, Pumpkin Helmets, Big Hats & More

In the spirit of Halloween, 2K has released quite the bizarre collection of items for PGA TOUR 2K21. I mean… if banana putters, pumpkins helmets and oversized hats are your thing, enjoy gearing up your MyPLAYER with them.

We’ve posted a trailer and some weird screenshots below.

I can’t.

The new update is available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC and Stadia. Nintendo Switch fans will have to wait until October 30 for the update.

2K is currently running a 15% off sale for the digital version PGA TOUR 2K21.

  1. The update has given us all the ability to spend 1000 coins on this:

Not to mention, new putters that look like hot dogs, tacos, and fish. Just what the community was clamoring for....ugh.
This is what HB are spending their time on?

And to think that we once upon a time had big fans of TGC making fun of EA for the whole "battleship" thing on Rory.. Life comes at ya' fast
What a clown show going on over at HB right now

That was exactly my first thought...how those who were TGC diehard fans always went after EA's "arcadey" golf games like Tiger Woods and Rory.
I know HB Studios has a reputation for releasing their game, then never being heard from again. If this is what they come up with for updates, perhaps they should go back and live up to that reputation. What a waste of time this is.

Seriously - that pumpkin head is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen.
Are they trying to appeal to, quite literally, 6 year olds?

6 year olds with their parents' credit cards, probably.
It's also funny to read other's posts on various sites and forums, defending these updates as being already planned, widening the appeal of the game, etc. These are the same folks who likely bashed EA and others for adding in arcade elements to their games. My, how the tables have turned...haha

TGC has always had a fairly rabid core of sycophant defenders. It made more sense when it was a plucky little upstart with the HB dev team very involved and communicative, etc. (TGC 1/2 basically).
Why anyone is rushing to the defense of this franchise and HB anymore is beyond me. All the charm is gone, but the bugs, issues and weird stuff remain...and instead of meaningfully communicating about and addressing those issues (pick any number of them mentioned all over the web)....they are pumping out taco putters, pumpkin heads and hats that are 30 sizes too big and look ridiculous.
"Widening the appeal" by adding ways to make your golfer look like an absolutely moronic idiot? -- Jesus -- good luck to you HB/2K.
What's next? Tie-dye grass and monster filled lava pits added to the course designer?

A new update was released for PGA Tour 2K21 today...4.2 GB. And it seems to only have added some minor fixes and...interesting Halloween-related MyPlayer gear:
Added audio adjustments in PGA TOUR Career.
    Fixed UI related issues.
Addressed concerns related to Online Societies.
Addressed reported concerns related to crashing problems.
Addressed stuttering and framerate drop issues.
    Added performance and stability improvements.
    Other minor fixes.

Where did you find those patch notes? Were they buried in the Tweet replies somewhere?
Hey 2K why don't you instead add the capability to play as the PGA Pros in your game? Would generate more interest than having the ability to play with a pumpkin on your head.

Lmao. Just about spit out my beer laughing reading this...

I gotta admit...the "update" zapped all interest I had in this game. I don't really wanna turn it on and play, knowing that this is the content they have lined up. I'm sure there will be turkey or Pilgrim hats come Thanksgiving, Santa hats in December, Easter Bunny ears around Spring, etc.
They don't tell anyone about what updates and content have planned, they don't really even talk about it after it's release. I don't play TGCTours anymore, because even the "casual" Beer League flight is dominated by scores of -50 or lower. I'll never compete in the "actual" leagues, so why bother?
And then there are the unannounced server-side updates that alter tempo and change how the game is played. That's...not great, Bob.
All I can do is play local rounds on real courses to get my golf fix occasionally, and maybe dabble in career mode for a bit until it gets too repetitive.
This is a fine game, at its core...but it seems HB lacks the desire or vision to keep it interesting for more than two months. I know that this has been the knock on HB Studios for some time. I guess I am now just experiencing it first hand, since I waited until TGC 2019 was under $20.
This is currently my favorite game right now. I play it almost everyday but have been too busy this week but had just a moment last night and wanted to check out the new weekly deals on Xbox. I saw the game was updating and I was hoping we got some new course's but didn't have time to check. Now I just seen this. So this was the update content? Very disappointed right now. They should of used the time and effort to add a few more course's even if their not official ones.

I was hoping for more real courses in career mode, but hey, it’s a funny hat!

You should get one more course in a future patch, which could be the last patch for this game.
I can confirm that they did fix the 2V2 9 hole, alt-shot matchmaking option. I completed a match a little while ago on the PC version, and it went very smooth... we had a great match as well, even though I let my partner down by leaving an 8 foot downhill birdie putt a foot short, taking us 2 down with 2 to play :(
It was nice to see this working again, and I was equally surprised to see that I was able to find a match within 6 or 7 minutes. I find that gamers on the PC are more likely to stick out a match, so I attempt this sort of thing on that platform more often.
LOL this game is literally going to be $10 soon what a complete fail sad that golf fans have to go back to tiger woods 14, even 2005 is better then this game and you still cant play as pros? whats the point of this game anyways?
U know guys it's all about personal preference, it seems like most of the developers has forgotten about what games really want & need with these newer releases each year, because no game is perfect & that's why I still play Top Spin 4, Tiger woods PGA tour 14, NCAA 14 & Kinect sports on my 360 because those games was fun as hell not perfect but fun to me in general, but  it seems like with these newer games & consoles we are getting less & less & it's all about microtransactions etccccc but @ the end of the day it's all up to the developers & companies behind them, because I own all the systems but for some reason I always return back to my 360 guys fun times indeed

How about fixing the constant crashing on the ps4. It crashes multiple times every time I play online.

On PS4 the game crashes quite a bit. At it's core it is a decent game this year the best yet. However if this game did not allow for the numerous excellent user created courses I would never play it. God knows what in hell they were thinking with this latest nonsense it truly boggles the mind. :google:

After the TW's series ended I did not bother with the TGC after it debuted nor was I interested in any of the sequels after it. PGA2K21 got my attention once it included a number of real courses. Still have yet to play any of them due to the numerous user created courses that are out there and keep me going. I'm playing local courses that were created that never would see the light of day officially. Lots of talented people out there.

Does anyone want to wager a guess as to how many patches there will be in the end?

Two months in now. My bet is this was all she wrote at least as far as game play goes. Maybe something for system crashes but that would be it.

I'm going to guess one more patch a couple of weeks after the next-gen consoles release. I think there will be at least one more server side patch as well. Problem is, we can't even get patch notes for what they downloadable patches do now, so who knows what a server side patch would do!?
HB Studios attitude about community relations totally baffles me. They had a bit of a positive interactive uptick a couple of weeks before 2K21's release and maybe the week following. Since then it's been pretty much nada. I think something has happened between them and 2K, as they were 'full speed ahead' with 2K's forum being their new official communication channel. They haven't posted anything their since August and the 2K moderator doesn't offer any thoughts on what's going on. It's not a good look.

That's what I think too, it sure looks like the end of the PGA 2K experience. Sometimes I wonder if it's not something to do with the rumors of a new EA PGA game being made for new generation consoles.

    Don't tease me like this!!
I would be SO excited about a next-gen EA golf game!
I'd even be excited about a next-gen 2k golf game if they dumped HB. I'm sorry, but HB has run its course with the golf thing. They seem unable to push it over the top and the amount of progress over a 4 version run of TGC is just not very impressive.
EA just needs to pull out and polish up the Rory source code. It needed some gameplay and swing work still, but the graphics engine I'm positive could be dialed up for next-gen.
I sure hope there's more updates/content than this...even though I know that it's the HB way of doing things.
They teased in the lead up to release that they were working on adding clothing brands, potential new courses, etc. So far, we've gotten lousy Halloween themed gear, massive hats, silly putters, and nothing that they mentioned at all.
I have to say, if they don't add more content to actually drum up some interest in this game for folks like me, and correct some of the lingering issues that have been documented by the community, I'm likely done playing this game consistently. I'm at level 82 at this point in the game, and once you get to level 100, it seems like there's really no further progression. All you can do is earn coins I guess, and just buy up all the clothes and clubs available, but that's it.
Honestly, I've been spending significantly more time playing NCAA Football 14 than PGA 2K21 in the last month or so. I can't recall a game that's gone from being my go-to, to lingering on the shelf, in such a short amount of time like PGA 2K21.
I've said it several times, TGC is a course designer with a golf sim built around it. They've done a very good job at this, people designing great golf courses and playing some nice rounds of golf on them. A hardcore crowd wanted a much tougher, almost impossible to break par settings, they got it in spade. It's enough for TGC Tours to get going.
What HB was never able to design is the rest we were accustomed in the TW series. Starting with career mode which is almost a joke, not even on the very basic standard with the Rory game. They still can't get a leaderboard going right. And multiplayer is not much better than career mode. And what's going on with the 2K message board being abandoned by HB, just hiding on their own forum is a disgrace.
This whole cycle, of not getting info/footage about 2K21 until a week before the game, to the positive result of seeing the game in action via "streamers", followed by a release that saw positive responses to gameplay, then followed up by slow servers, stats missing, swing tempo changing via unannounced server-side updates, entire patches being released with no patch notes, Halloween gear that no one wanted, etc. has been an absolute roller coaster.
The amazing thing is...PGA 2K21 is getting consideration as one of the best sports games this year. Probably says more about the industry than 2K21 itself. And I know - at first I was a huge fan of this game. Said it was the best golf game I'd ever played on console outside of TW14. But the shiny newness has worn off, and HB is showing its warts.
    @MrArlingtonBeach
I was worried about the way the release, particularly the summer lead up, went. I've long maintained that when there is lots to be proud of and excited about as a developer/publisher, you get that stuff out there and spread the word.
The whole summer felt like a drip drip drip of a couple exciting teasers to get as much pre-order money out of wallets as possible -- while leaving a lot of unknowns to be discovered later.
All that said - things could be made right with some surprisingly tremendous post launch support and patching -- which isn't looking so good at the moment.

Even post release, I was really enjoying the game. I figured they would patch career mode leaderboard issues and other things, and the game would be even better. But then they released a server side update unannounced, and the game became much easier than it was before. Then came the Halloween update with the pumpkin head, stupid putters, and huge hats no one wants in a patch that still doesn't have official notes posted.
Their pre release marketing was frustrating...their post release support has been maddening.

I've just gotten really spoiled by all the excellent user created courses. Not sure how easy it would be to settle for 25-30 courses at this point.

This will be the one thing TGC/2K has on any EA golf game, unless of course the EA game comes with a course creator, too.
For me, it's a give-and-take thing...sure, TGC/2K has lots of amazing user created courses. But right now, you can only use them in local matches and societies. And there are an innumerable number of courses out there that flat out stink and are horrible auto generated ones that someone slaps a ridiculous name on.
A game that has a set 25-30 courses (like the EA golf games of old) also limits things, but it's essentially the same as the career mode in 2K21. There's only 30-ish courses you're allowed to play in that mode since there is no customization of the schedule. And a lot of them are fictional courses created by users in previous TGC games.
So if I have to play a set 25-30 courses anyway in career mode, wouldn't I want them to be some of the best real-life ones in the world, like Augusta, St. Andrews, Oakmont, etc.? I can play those courses in my career mode in TW14...I cannot in 2K21. Not to mention the licensing of the actual majors as well.
Echoing MrAB above. For a licensed, fully blown out, and complete career mode and PGA simulation (ala TW14) I'll gladly trade out zillions of courses for a great list of exceptionally well done first party licensed courses.
EA was really onto something with Rory and the courses that were individually tailored to the unique conditions and challenges present at those real world venues. (Oakmont comes to mind).
That's the sort of stuff that, other than Rory, has never been done on a golf game and it would truly make individual courses stand out.
I'm all for it. This whole genre could really use some next generation thinking and implementation (beyond just making better looking graphics).
