Features

THE ICE IS YOUR PLAYGROUND

  • CREATIVE ATTACK DEKES – All-new offensive deke moves that deliver the creative freedom and control seen in today’s NHL, including one-handed moves, between-the-legs dekes, back-handed toe-drags, heel drags, cheeky puck flips and more. New deke branching gives you control to choose how you string deke combinations together into fluid dangles based on moment- to-moment decisions and reaction time.
  • DEFENSIVE SKILL STICK – The new Defensive Skill Stick gives you full control over your stick to target poke checks, keep your stick extended against an attacker to disrupt a play, and even sweep your stick back and forth to cover a zone.
  • CREATIVE TEAMMATE A.I. – Your A.I. teammates now leverage all the same creative deking and passing tools that you do, creating smarter plays up and down the ice. Teammates are better at finding you in breakout opportunities through off-the-boards bank passing, lead passing and improved positioning. A.I. will also use the new Defensive Skill Stick, making them more effective teammates in your own zone.
  • AUTHENTIC 3-ON-3 EASHL – You no longer need all five of your teammates to fill an EASHL match. Jump into 3-on-3 and experience a whole new competitive arena. Bringing authentic NHL 3-on-3 overtime to EA SPORTS Hockey League, you can now choose to play 3-on-3 full matches, opening up more ice for you and your teammates to get creative, pull off big plays, and showcase brand new skill moves. With more space to attack – and to make mistakes – 3-on-3 EASHL is higher stakes with more competition and skills.

ARCADE-INSPIRED 3-ON-3 HOCKEY

  • NHL THREES – An all-new 3-on-3 hockey experience with bigger hits, faster action and more open-ice to create big plays, beautiful dangles and more goals. NHL THREES is inspired by fun, pick-up-and-play arcade sports games where you can play any way you want to, online or offline, co-op or competitive.
CAMPAIGN MODE – NHL THREES features a complete single-player campaign mode where you compete against different teams and leagues in a circuit-style journey. Progress through the campaign and unlock objective- based rewards along the way – including new teammates, jerseys, logos and even a few surprises!
  • NEW BROADCAST AND COMMENTARY PRESENTATION – An all-new NHL THREES commentator delivers more humor and fun with a unique, over-the- top style that keeps the crowd roaring. New broadcast presentation means your goals come with a whole new sizzle.
  • NEW ARENAS – Brand new NHL THREES arenas deliver more color, more special FX and completely unique on-ice designs that keep your games fresh and as exciting as the gameplay.
  • ALL ACTION – Jump into NHL THREES and keep the pace fast and exciting after the puck drops. No offsides and no icing means anything goes and the fun doesn’t slow down. Every penalty sends you straight to center-ice for a penalty shot and the chance to earn a crucial goal.
  • THREES ONLINE – NHL THREES features Online Vs. and Online Team Play to jump into the fast, fun 3-on-3 hockey on a team with your friends. Join two other friends and pick your team before jumping online against three other friends in a full six-player competitive, over-the-top hockey game.
  • PLAY BY YOUR RULES – In NHL THREES, you decide how to win the game. Flip a coin to determine the rules and the winner chooses how many periods to play or what goal limit determines the winner. Gotta win by two? It’s all up to you. Capitalize on opportune Money Pucks with varying point values to change the dynamic of the game and secure a big win.
  • ULTIMATE COUCH CO-OP – Team up with your friends and play NHL THREES cooperatively or competitively with the most combinations of mixing local and online co-op play than previous any EA SPORTS NHL game.
  • NEW BUTTON CONTROLS – An all-new modern control scheme allows players who prefer to use face-button controls to pull of the same skill moves and goals as Skill Stick players, leveling the playing field and ensuring that every player can make an impact, even if it’s their first time lacing up the skates.

EXPERIENCE EXPANSION IN THE NEW NHL

  • EXPANSION DRAFT – Reshape the entire NHL with the new Expansion Draft feature in Franchise Mode where you get to create and draft a 32nd NHL team and shake up the league. Run an authentic expansion draft where you select the best players from across the league, build a unique roster and take on the front office role to manage the team, the business and the games. Or if you’re playing as an existing franchise, protect your current team roster in the Expansion Draft by setting your own Protected Player list.
  • MORE EXPANSION LOCATIONS – You select the hometown for your 32nd expansion team, from cities all across North America and even in Europe – from Stockholm to Helsinki to Berlin to St. Petersburg. You choose the place and team and compete to bring the Stanley Cup back to your hometown.
  • CREATE-A-MASCOT – Once you’ve drafted a new NHL team, use the new, deeper Creation Zone customization tools to choose your city, build an arena, design a uniform and a logo, and for the first time ever – design your very own custom mascot.
  • VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS – Be the first to play as the Vegas Golden Knights before they play their first NHL Regular Season game. Lace up as the official Vegas Golden Knights team, including authentic rosters, uniforms, logo and the opportunity to play in the brand new T-Mobile Arena.

TEAM UP OR COMPETE ANYWAY YOU WANT

  1. Wow this is garbage. The defensive skill stick is the only thing worth writing home about. Otherwise, they're just hyping up 3-on-3 hockey and new dekes to draw in all the little kids and youtubers out there. Nothing about fundamentals, just glitz and glam. Also, we can't even redo the expansion draft for Vegas? It has to be a 32nd team? This was a feature back in the early NHL 2000-era games yet they can't even offer it now. Really disappointed right now.
I really think this will be it for Rammer and crew. Putting McDavid will get people to buy it regardless, but this is just unacceptable and I anticipate very low sales. Yes HUT HUT HUT, but still....
What in God's name did they do this year? Does anyone actually think that looked good? The defensive skill stick looks cool...what else? Those ridiculous dekes?
Look at the end with that garbage 3 on 3 mode. After the goal is scored, 2 man celebration, the other guy just skates away....same 2 man celebration again...for the 4th year in a row.
Same terrible goaltending animations....I mean come on. We can't keep letting them get away with this!
I see why DJNEO got frustrated. Granted we all should have known this was coming after that survey leaked, but damn was that just sad/rough to watch. No one clapped for the game at the award show either.
I like the defensive skill stick, new camera angles.
But everything else screams arcade. In fact, they are hyping up a mode using the term arcade. No roster sharing, no neutral ice improvements, nothing about franchise mode.
Unless they have been working on these aspects, and only hyping the casual stuff for marketing. Which I doubt.
3 3 3 3 3... Lol! only thing that looked intresting to me is the def skill stick. No gm connected and no shorter seasons in franchise. I'll give it a try like always with EA access. Hopefully its a better game we'll see.

Curious to know the extent of the ability to change your  logos. If it's preset like last year it's really bad, but would be great if you could get close to creating logos for college or USHL teams.
I think I'm finally done.  There's nothing here we haven't seen before in some shape or form.  Gees, the game doesn't even look good graphically.....I mean with Madden and NBA Live graphics jumping off the screen...NHL has this blurry, grainy garbage.  I haven't bought Madden in a few years, I think my money goes there this year.
I'm not excited about this at all this coming from one of NHLs biggest supporters.
The new defensive stick is promising
the new commentary has me worried as I'm hoping it doesn't end up as a ha ha fest like NHL 2002 and 2003 (however the games were really arcade heavy and fit the tone back then)
im all for new modes and 3-3 is a nice addition however it shouldn't be one of your main highlights. And features. Should be a "oh and we also have..." not this is one of our massive features !!
Who knows maybe I will be surprised but the game seems to be leaning away from sim which is disappointing.
I will wait to see reviews of this game first, but as of right now it looks like I won't be buying NHL 18. I've had every single EA NHL game ever made, but I'm just not interested in their additions to the game this year. It's a real shame because hockey is my favorite sport by a landslide.
It looks like they are going to a more arcade style which I'm just not a fan of. Arcade games are fine, but you have to make the game look that way a little bit too like NHL Hitz and Super Mega Baseball. In my opinion, there's just some sort of disconnect when you have realistic looking graphics with arcade gameplay - it just doesn't mix well. It also doesn't help that this is the only NHL game on the market so if you are looking for a realistic game you're suddenly out of luck.
But like I said, I will wait for reviews. Hopefully those new sliders they introduced last year can outweigh any sort of arcade style they added this year. If that's the case, I still don't know if the defensive skill stick will be enough of a reason for me to buy this game.
I'll probably just stick with Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 and Super Mega Baseball 2 this year.

NHL 17 sold less than NHL 16. This game isnt for you guys, the sim gamers. Sorry but this is the truth, EA wants the casuals back so bringing 3v3 and focusing on that will bring casuals to game who just want quick action hockey.
Side note, this is what happens when you have no competition in NHL video game series. No other hockey game to push EA NHL so they get lazy and product suffers, now the sales have been so slow they have to resort to 3v3 Hockey.

Another company needs to make NHL Game.
Ubisoft would make sense since there based in Montreal and Montreal is crazy hockey city.

    Why not Franchise / Season?
The game looks awesome. Finally some personality. New defensive stick, new creative dekes, speed. Love it.
3 on 3 mode is gonna be FUN.  Remember NHL hits. Probably the most fun I've had with an arcade hockey game.
    Love it.

The last NHL 2K game 2k10 (for the sake of an argument) 1.05 million units when counting all platforms and estimating on digital sales. And NHL 10 sold around 1.3 million units. And at that point in time 2K had produced 8 hockey titles.
This year NHL 17 sold just over 1 million copies down from probably somewhere around 1.25M with 2016. Why would a game developer drop millions of dollars to create a new game (with expenses including getting the NHL license, creating a whole entire 70-80 man development team, etc) that you'll be lucky to sell 500K copies for? It just doesn't make financial success to take a risk on making an NHL due to the sport not being that popular. I would imagine it's not even the 4th most popular sport in the country anymore. But that's for a different thread.
Everyone bitching about 3's - Were you aware it changed defensive spacing and defensive cycling as well? Like completely redone?
I mean...it's June. Would be nice to keep a little bit of an open mind.

Why would anyone keep an open mind, it's Operation Sports after a debut game trailer? I enjoy coming here and have for years, but I've never seen any group of sports video game fans jump to more conclusions than this community.
I think the trailer looked great, and I'm personally pretty excited for the Expansion mode. I think it'll be a pretty fun mode to try out. And the same goes for Threes. I'm a sim fan too, but sometimes it's nice to play something more arcade. Now we can choose both!

What's funny is that I really, really missed 2K's Pond Hockey, and I think EA's Threes looks like a great way to add some fun to the game.

The stuff you posted on twitter has given me faith.
But that wasn't mentioned in the official stuff. I posted that the best case scenario is a heap of sim stuff is in the game, but has not been reflected in the marketing.
CONTRACT EXTENSIONS - Franchise Mode now features the ability to offer contract extensions and ensure the right players stay on your roster.

FINALLY! I hope there is more... :)
My heart is in pain I love hockey and Im loved some ea nhl too but this will be the three no buy year, trailer and features apart defense skill stick are pathetic
The lack of roster sharing is truly UNBELIEVABLE!! I truly believe that would at least allow some sim elements via ratings. At least in theory.

All due respect, but EA's got a really terrible track record, especially in regards to promising new and improved AI who still can't handle any real responsibilities, while spending the other 3/4 of their time talking about how awesome their newest arcade feature will be.
EA hasn't earned benefit of the doubt in years, though I do highly regard your opinion.
So are the new Adidas uniforms even in the game? I will actually be surprised if they are. I have no idea what this game is going to be like based off the feature list and trailer, and that's kind of concerning. I also don't think they've added any new face scans to players although that's just a hunch. That could have been a big step for immersion.
On the bright side, the screenshots look like a higher resolution will be available for the pro/X. This is a welcome addition. Lines look much cleaner. And like others have said, the defensive skill stick could be great.
Custom music anyone? Any major improvement to GM mode? If not Im out. When you compare this game to The Show or NBA 2k its not really close. It just lacks depth.
    The good:
    Creation/creativity stuff:
Yes! More of this please. Creating my own team and playing 3 season of franchise with my Saskatoon Bulldogs was fun last year.
It seems they are giving us more options this year following nba 2k with expansion drafts and all that.
I hope all this means custom goalie masks, but I highly doubt it.
I also hope rewarding creativity means that players get more options for how they want the game to play. If you play franchise you get the choice how the game on and off the ice plays. If you play be a pro you get the option to modify the game the way you want.
    The maybes:
I think offensive and defensive stuff mentioned seemed very similar to things I have seen before, but I don't know how it will affect the game at all. The way I play EA NHL has been very similar the last 7-8 years or so, so is this actual changes or just another refined way of saying "we haven't really changed it"?
    The meh:
The THREES! The entire thing feels more like a sales jippo than actual content or quality change.
This is arcade hockey, and not for me.
I am sure there are other players who will love it and that's fine.
I hope this mode does not define how the game plays in franchise and be a pro. I hope the modes can stand next to each other and be different in feel.
    The bad:
No roster sharing? No single player focus changes?
Both of these bums me out.
Last year was an OK game, but over time the game got new changes to it that frankly made NHL17 worse.
    Final remarks:
This is just the first glimpse of the game. We still have room for growth and development until release.
As for initial feels, I think this comes in the category not better or worse than last years.
So I guess it depends on what you like in the end.
Strange... Last year I got both NHL and NFL.
From what I have seen until now I might just skip both this year.
I feel like a lot of people just want to dislike it no matter what. I hope for more Franchise news soon, but it's a few good small steps thjs far.

I feel like a lot of people just want to dislike it no matter what. I hope for more Franchise news soon, but it's a few good small steps thjs far.

Eh... Because small steps are not enough for this series. They simply don't listen. Even a simple feature like roster sharing will not be implemented by this dev team. And although a lot of players asked for it, especially last and this year. The god awful rosters of EA and their lazy update rythms kill the whole game for me. Due to the seldom updates, the rosters are never even close to being accurate. Doesn't matter on which point in the season.
How long does Madden or the 2K games have this function?
    Smirkin Dirk
FYI, roster sharing has not been confirmed either way.
Of course, if it was in, you'd think they say it.

Yeah, I agree. I also don't get my hopes up. I really think about passing this one. I barely touched NHL 17 because of all the roster mess and the missing depth in GM mode.
I too feel like there's a lot of negativity here just for the sake of it. That being said though, the game has been pretty uninspired for a little while now. The addition of owner mode though, and the creation zone last year was nice.
I never created my own team in NHL 17, but I did last night just for fun, and I was actually surprised how deep it was with customization for my custom team.
Now, as for the features for NHL18. 3 on 3 doesn't bother me as much as it's bothering everyone else. At the end of the day, I think those of us who really want a good, solid representation of NHL hockey have to keep in mind, the game still has to sell copies. I too though, hate that the addition of those mode likely took away from key area's of the game that needed to be improved upon. That definitely bothers me. However, it's not like it's a stretch for the mode. The all star game itself is a 3 on 3 tournament now, isn't it? I guess they could have done worse.
I'm hoping though, that the 3 on 3 mode will appeal to the more arcade style players, which should hopefully allow them to fine tune the 5 on 5 mode more towards hockey. Probably not though since they have a pretty diverse set of AI/gameplay modes, and slider settings.
I think something that's gone unnoticed here is the contract extension/resigning option which sounds like it's any time now, not just end of season. That's a nice plus IMO for franchise mode. I wish scouting was revamped too in franchise as well as a few other things.
Hopefully more information comes out and this is just the tip of the iceberg here which for the marketing folks at EA they love to tout the new things that are going to sell the game to the casuals, and then the good stuff usually rolls out after the fact. Fingers crossed here.
The defensive skill stick is needed, the deeks though, meh... I think there's a few too many easy to use, too often used ones already in the game, so I could have done without that.
The AI though needs serious tuning IMO, so hopefully a lot of time has been spent there. I get it, that if I play out of position, my CPUAI teammates tend to try and account for that, and that tends to really mess things up, but I guess I can live with that because it's my fault. What I can't live with though, is the CPU AI opponent players, being able to do things that my controlled player, or AI teammates can't do. Nothing bothers me more playing the NHL series than that simple thing.
I get the negativity, but I do think it's a bit over the top at this point too. It does however seem like EA just sat back and went "Hmm... lets make this easy. What's new in NHL guys? Expansion draft this year? Lets do that. 3 on 3 tournaments? Lets do that too. More fun filled deeks? Sold! Put that in too! That lines up nicely with where the NHL is at, lets do it!" That is concerning to me considering the fans want simple things like franchise upgrades so it's not the same system since 2010 or whenever it was implemented in it's current state. Roster sharing is huge too. At the same time though, I partially get it for a game where the sales probably don't soar through the roof like Madden, they've got to spend some time focused on modes that will attract buyers and revenue to keep it alive. Sure, us more "sim focused" guys say make it more real, and we'll buy it, but unfortunately, we're in the minority, and likely always will be, so you have to take the good with the bad I'd think.
Ultimately, there's a few nice additions listed here, but there's a lot lacking that we've been asking for. I suspect the game will play similar on ice, that's probably good to some, and bad to others. Franchise will still be the same for the most part as well. I doubt roster share shows up, but all of these things should be given attention, and that's where the frustration comes from. There's so much potential to this one given the number of leagues implemented, and so much of it goes untapped, which is also frustrating. Hopefully, like I said, this is just the initial glitz and glamor of the marketing folks to push hype and sales, and the good details will follow. I hope.
The trailer and all this info really doesn't give us an idea of any gameplay improvements. I'm not optimistic there will be much difference from last years game in many areas including game play. It seems as if much of the attention and focus of NHL 18 was on this arcadey 3-3 and adding in expansion. Everything aside from minor tweaks will most likely be the same. I would rather the resources went to making a better overall Hockey experience but I think EA is done trying to do that. My take
Only minor gameplay tweaks to the existing modes
    No roster share
    No custom music
Not good....and I would very much like to point out that if we can create an expansion team, create an arena, create a logo, create Jerseys, and even a mascot but my goalie has to wear an existing NHL or plain mask, I'm going to laugh and cry into my coffee....I mean really? We can create an entire mascot but no mask editor. EA always showing that they just don't get it.
Yea, it is early in terms of news so I am holding out hope for a stronger deeper franchise mode. All it really needs is...Roster Share, an combination of season mode/franchise mode where you can run a 31 team league, play every game in the league, and the ability to change every teams strategies. I was hoping once they dropped the use of "BeAGM" and used franchise mode we would begin to see a shift to a more open mode. Fingers crossed.
I like the addition of in season contract extensions and expansion, however, I hope they expanded on relocation by giving users the option to build a new arena in an existing market BEFORE choosing relocation, if the existing city is willing to negotiate a new arena deal.

    Franchise got some love.

See, now that's what I'm talking about. That's some good solid info and sounds like some good progress to franchise mode there.
It doesn't fit the glitz and glamor of the marketing dept's releases to push sales, but that's the stuff folks here are looking for.
Thanks for posting that. That's encouraging to see.
Why are people freaking out about no roster share? It's not exactly a feature they would put on the back of the box. They only laid out major things in this trailer. If roster sharing is in the game, it's something we would find out about later. Roster sharing would be a great feature but it's not something you send Pierre McGuire out to babble about. We don't know that it won't be a feature in NHL 18.

We've been waiting for roster share since the beginning of next gen, especially when nearly every other sports game has it, we're just frustrated.

I would definitely download OS rosters if there were roster share. I will be disappointed if it's not in the game but we don't know whether or not they are. It's not really the type of feature you put in a reveal trailer.
The initial press release and feature reveal is always the "back of the box" type stuff. That's how Madden has always been as well.
The blogs and releases that come between now and release will detail the information most OSers want to know. Everyone just needs to relax and just ask the right questions.
One positive I'm hoping for, it says co-op for basically everything.. Pleeeeeeeeeease let me be able to invite my xbox live bud to my season/franchise games. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!

Thanks for posting this - I had not seen all of those changes. I still was looking for expanded stat/award tracking and improved scouting, but at least this is something. Thanks for letting us know!
I'm not quite sure why there are so many people complaining. It looks great to me. I'm strictly a EASHL Player though and seeing new dekes to play with and a D-man skill stick is exciting being that I either play a goalie, D-man or a D-type center. And on top of that I can play 3s with my friends so theres no more bit***ing about the terrible computer. Now heres my only question. When they mean 3 VS 3 do they mean 4 VS 4 if you have goalies or is the goalie computer controlled?

I hope so too, but it's not gonna happen. I mean look at the Multiplayer page on the site. It looks like you're going to click on it and it will flood you with all this info, and it's one thing about couch coop, again.
Just let me finally be able to do a fun coop game against AI with only 1 or 2 other players like last gen. I don't care about all these gimmick modes and THREEs is another one of them.
Everything else sounds like good features but don't talk up coop and drop the ball again. Speaking of sounds, I hope the presentation is actually fixed this year and please a new UI all around. Slow down the damn replays, give us better replay angles (I know GI says more but I want some of the cinematic shots we see from the stands) and at least some new commentary.
3 online and in the EASHL sounds great
however, if it's same player builds again with no attribute edits or no progression like fifa.. then it will get old after a month with nothing to play for
this is probably the most needed change NHL needs online in the EASHL ...
the same player build with no progression on anything is rather boring
at least make it like fifa where you level up overtime your overall ..........
i will stick with FIFA and PES if it's the same default player builds.
Some very nice features. I know a lot of people that will like the Expansion mode.
Three on Three sounds fun too. I know I'd play that a lot.
I'll wait to see how much better the AI is though.
The one thing I'm dying for them to add is incorporating all the leagues in every mode.
Why can't I be the GM of a CHL team? Or a European team?
Why can't I play Be A Pro and potentially have to play my way out of European leagues in order to get a contract from the NHL?
FIFA has all of this and more. Why can't the NHL team do the same?
    Honni
It's horrible that there are some guys out there "liking" it. I don't get it...
The series stagnated for several years now.

In my opinion, the reason the game has stagnated is that they pretty much made the most realistic hockey game that instill fun to play. Now all we get are requests for more things that alienate the latest base of sports gamers, which are casuals.
All NHL hockey games sold and played better when they were less realistic, as games that were faster and more violent than real life. It's what made hockey games more popular than the actual sport, yet it still turned fans of those games into fans of the sport.
While I will play some Play Now and Tournament mode games, I bet I end up playing 3 on 3 90% of the time. It looks fun as hell.
I think EA would do well to move both the NHL and NBA games into more arcade style play. Suddenly, they would start drawing in regular gamers again and crow the category.

I've got to respectfully disagree. They made steps forward in how you controlled the game of hockey, and reaped the rewards of that. The game's been stagnant for people because of their embrace of the arcade side of things, in my opinion.
The game has been focusing more and more on cool visuals, big checks, and drawing people to the online modes for probably the last 3 to 5 years, and it's been at the expense of the other game modes.

I think the frustration comes from saying this same thing every year, only to find out the not back-of-the-box items are hardly any more impressive.
Last year they flaunted the Franchise mode, but didn't specify much about it. Come to find out that sure, you can move your team, but there's hardly any fanfare when you do it, little to no mention in game, and worst of all, your team is stuck in the same division. So even if you move the Canes from Raleigh all the way out to the West coast in Seattle, you'll still be suspending belief to realize that your team is apparently flying back and forth from Seattle to the East coast multiple times per week.
EA's been great at the big idea and the "Oh wow!" thing that they're adding to the game...but they've been frustratingly slow at adding anything to the game that adds depth.
I have bought every nhl game since it came out, i am a simulation player. All i want is good franchise play. I dont play online at all, for me,add more neutral zone pressure and realistic dump and chase.
I think it's great that we can create our own expansion team. But I wonder how the AHL affiliations would work? Will we get to create an AHL team for our NHL team? Or will we have to pick an AHL team to share with another NHL team? Or will we be randomly assigned an AHL affiliate? Or will we be able to pick an ECHL team and bring it to the AHL as our affiliate?

I'm just hoping we can get our teams relocated to a new division.
I moved Carolina to Milwaukee, and was still playing all of the East coast teams.

My guess because you have only 1 team that you can expand, you will be given a set AHL team. I'm sure it's set that way no matter what you do

True. I don't want to create a Houston team that ends up playing in the Eastern Conference. But it would be cool if we could create our expansion AHL team to go along with our expansion NHL team.
I see some are excited about 3 on 3 but I wish they would focus more on things that have been asked for for years. For instance if many want roster sharing and you don't have the time because of the short cycle and a team that is not big enough put that back into the hands of those that are willing to do it. Now I don't know anything about code or programming but I don't see the series moving in the right direction here. It pains me to see this. I am strictly an offline player and I will purchase this of course it's hockey after all and I did have fun after 2 months of tweaking sliders but not very much in immersion and it looks like it will be even worse this year so disappointing but I will remain forever hopeful it gets more polish this next installment but it is moving at a very small pace and its is getting very frustrating to continue on. IMO 3 on 3 was delevloped because the lag online is bad and they wanted to get rid of players that they have to code to get it to operate correctly.

My thoughts on EA's NHL have been this for a while now: the developers may well want to do all of these cool things we want, but EA's corporate team only wants things that are going to increase the audience and translate to more money. This means more arcade type fun that anyone can pick up in a few minutes, and the online modes that get people dropping money on card packs.
Roster sharing would be nice for some, but I doubt EA sees it doing anything but costing them money on their backend as they pay for server space that just sits there sending out files.
I love Customization. The Expansion draft sounds fun and interesting.
Hopefully the NHL makers played some NBA 2K (MyLeague), where you have so much ability to create things your way and got some ideas from it.
*Things I want in the Game - Edit/Create Draft Classes - Replace Multiple Teams - Created Team Templates - Editing Players - And More
I feel like there are people are taking this to a point where the EA NHL team can't win.
I want so much out of this game, but some of these complaints are frankly unreasonable. If you're not buying the game because you can't add more than 1 expansion team (besides LV) it doesn't sound to me like you ever actually had an intention to give the game a chance in the 1st place.
3 vs 3 doesn't indicate the game is going arcade, but it allows for a faster paced online game for those who are more casual fans or those who don't have time to sink into an EASHL franchise full time. It frankly looks quite enjoyable.
That doesn't mean the game is going arcade, and you know that just by looking at the new Defensive Skill Stick.
Its better than madden, at least you all have the ability for expansion and the ability to customize your expansion teams. NHL has a way deeper mode than madden fans could ever dream of.
