MLB The Show 25: First Details on Next Content Drop Revealed

New weekend content coming!

This upcoming weekend is shaping up to be the first big one for Diamond Dynasty players in MLB The Show 25. Most notably, Weekend Classic is starting! And we all know what that means: We are about to bear witness to possibly the most sweaty period any of us DD players have ever seen. But the anticipated Weekend Classic isn’t the only new thing San Diego Studio has on tap for this weekend.

San Diego Studio has already revealed a few of the items that will be up for grabs come Friday, but we’ll talk about those in just a bit. First, let’s go over everything new that’s coming. To keep things brief, almost every program will be getting fresh new content. Here’s what SDS has announced so far:

  • 2nd Inning Program
  • Team Affinity: My Journey Update
  • April Spotlight Drop 2
  • 3 New Cornerstone Diamond cards

Now, onto the actual content that we know will be available starting Friday.

The first thing we should address is the XP Path Program. Since release, we’ve been doing the 1st Inning Program, which has given us rewards such as (but not limited to) Cornerstone cards that could be updated through separate programs, as well as two Boss packs. For the 1st Inning Program, these Boss packs included Adrian Beltre, Manny Ramirez, and Mark McGwire.

Assuming SDS keeps tradition, there will be three new Bosses for the 2nd Inning Program. But thus far, none of them have been released. Let’s just hope they are players we actually want to use.

Three new Cornerstone cards will be available as well. This time around, they are Bruce Sutter, Tony Clark, and J.D. Martinez. Sutter is always a solid relief pitcher, Clark is a switch-hitting first baseman, and Martinez is always a reliable bat. So their Diamond versions should be worth getting.

And though we’ve yet to see who the 2nd Inning Bosses are, we do know that legendary shortstop Ozzie Smith will be among the players available in the XP reward path. An 89-rated Diamond, this Ozzie should be fun to use. However, any seasoned MLB The Show player will be aware that “The Wizard” is always a mixed bag because, despite having high contact, speed, and fielding, he has almost no power. Still, I expect he’ll be a popular lineup piece for a bit until better cards come along.

We are still in the dark as to who will be included in the Multiplayer and April Spotlight Drop 2 programs. But SDS is having a big reveal on their livestream tomorrow at 11 AM (PST) / 2 PM (EST). So be sure to watch that for more reveals. We’ll also be watching, so feel free to tune into Operation Sports tomorrow for our coverage.
