MLB The Show 23 New Legend - Jake Peavy

MLB The Show 23 has added another legend, pitcher Jake Peavy. Peavy joins Carlos Peña, Greg Vaughn, Mike Lowell, and Ian Kinsler as the newest veteran to be included in this year’s installment of The Show.

Peavy’s 15-year career stats include a 39.2 WAR, 3.63 ERA, and 1.196 WHIP. He amassed 2,207 strikeouts in 2,377 innings. In 2007, he was the National League Cy Young Award winner. He was a three-time All-Star, two-time World Series champion, and a Gold Glove winner.

Peavy is probably best known for this tenure with the San Diego Padres. His best season came in 2007, when he led all of baseball with a 2.54 ERA, 240 strikeouts, a 1.061 WHIP, and 19 wins. This earned him a Pitching Triple Crown, a feat accomplished only 39 times in MLB history.

As a member of both the 2013 World Series champion Boston Red Sox and the 2014 World Series champion San Francisco Giants, Peavy is one of only nine players in MLB history to have won back-to-back World Series with two different teams.

Despite being an exceptional pitcher, Peavy is technically blind without the use of corrective lenses. In low light conditions, it was sometimes difficult for him to see signs from his catcher. After one particularly challenging game, Padres catcher Rob Bowen joked, “I thought we were going to have to go to smoke signals.”

In 2008, Peavy purchased 5,000 acres of land near his hometown in Alabama. His property includes a bowling alley, baseball field, an Old West saloon, and an outdoor music venue. Hopefully The Show 23 includes a new feature in which players can wander around this compound open-world style.

Peavy also made his TV debut as an analyst for MLB Network last year.
