Yeah I have it preorder for april 16th but I think I'm going to cancel it. I can wait 4 days to save $85. I'm curious how long this (and off topic but Outriders) stays on gamepass

Could be a 1 year thing to just to get interest to in on xbox. Sony could have been looking at preorder sales on xbox and seeing the numbers not being there, and decided to take Microsoft money to cover extra development costs and massively increase game interest. Also as a gamepass user do i spend the $70 i saved on stubbs which i never would have if i purchased the game.

So curious how much Microsoft paid for this.

Its crazy! I've done alot of reading up on Gamepass and its profit. Obviously Microsoft is going for the Netflix of games route, they are Microsoft and I think are spending huge money to make it successful.

So I guess I don't need to try to find a PS5 in less than 3 weeks now. I won't be able to play it next gen right away (only have the Xbox One), but that's ok.

Yep, even if they are taking a loss right now, Microsoft can afford to for the long-term benefit

Am I the only one who feels this punishes PlayStation users? That's why I'm surprised by this. Perhaps presales were lower than expected and it's a short-term tease to get XBox users hip to the game? Maybe they pull it a month later?

I don't think it punishes Sony users. Xbox has done this with other multiplatform games like Outer Worlds (Which I think is still on Game pass since launch). My guess is that it stays on Game Pass pretty long. Can't remember a game that was only on Game Pass for a short period of time.
It's on Sony to come up with a similar model / service to combat this. I am on XSX, PS5 and Switch and like that they have different reasons to own them all.
Wow, truly wish this also had a PC release because despite not planning to buy it anytime soon unless impressions show the logic has really changed the game, I'd be playing this the day it became available. The Show is far from a bad game, it just lacks enough changes that I'm interested in to warrant a full-price purchase at the moment. I'd gladly take the game for free and play the heck out of it.
Amazing get for Microsoft even it is is only for a month or two.

I disagree that Sony must come up with a similar model to combat Game Pass, which is the only reason I've remained with XBox. I used to agree with that sentiment, but most PS exclusives I'm willing to buy. Most XBox exclusives I wouldn't try without GamePass.
If anything, this situation has me wondering whether we're going to finally get a PS version of Game Pass/rebooted PS Now. I'm quite intrigued to hear the actual reasoning for this.
I've posted too many times on how I loved the OG Xbox and 360, and skipped the One. Jumping back in with Series X, it's really been an amazing experience so far. Game Pass is just insane and only gets better, and this news is just crazy I can't believe it. Wow lol. So awesome.

I'm reading alot of opinions seeing that it wasn't Sony's decision moreso that Microsoft came to MLB as the publisher and opened the checkbook.
Win/win for MLB with a potential new audience trying the game out since it is there. Get as many young eyes on the game as possible

I feel the same, but I still cancelled my Series X pre-order. I can wait the extra 4 days. Also, when/if it does leave Game Pass, I will definitely then purchase the game 100%. Plus, I took the $ with my cancelled pre-order and immediately pre-ordered RE8 with it. That's until RE8 is somehow announced for Game Pass day and date as well hahaha.
I loved the OG Xbox and 360 and then was out of gaming for a while. Upon jumping back in, PS4 was the obvious choice for me for several reasons. One being the disaster of a launch that Xbox One had, and the other big one being MLB the Show was exclusive to PlayStation. I mean I did also have PS1-3 and am a big PlayStation fan as well, so the PS4 was an easy choice. And I never regretted having a PS4 and not an Xbox One, even as a big Xbox fan. PS4 was just an amazing experience with the games that were released on it.
Even today, I've been lucky enough to have a PS5 and have enjoyed it quite a bit. But jumping back into the Xbox ecosystem with a Series X, it's honestly been the best gaming experience I've had since probably loving my N64 as a little kid. I legit feel like a little kid again with how much I've loved my Series X. Game Pass is just insane and keeps getting better and better. To anyone that isn't an Xbox fan, that's cool, we're all gamers. To anyone that is an Xbox fan, wow what a time to be one.
Surprised no one has brought this up. I wonder if it’s going to be the next-gen, PS5/Series X version of the game or if it’s going to be the old-gen, PS4/XB1 version.
My guess is old-gen, but you never know

As a PS5 owner what a major W for Xbox users. I really do hope Sony got paid extra for doing this because this seems like a loss for those who own a PlayStation. $15 Gamepass > $70 Game.

This is making my "buy a ps5 for MLB the Show" decision look bad.

It was bad considering the first press releases/Tweets about The Show coming to XBox in 2021 came out in December of 2019. Well before pre-orders for the next-gen consoles were available.

They'll have to buy the game eventually because no game ever stays on Gamepass forever, so they're at most saving probably $10-20 total if they can get the game on sale for $40-50 when it leaves GamePass (the game is still $60 on PS4). My guess is this is a one month thing to get people hyped on XBox for an actual baseball game that Microsoft paid a pretty penny for.

Would have to be at least 3-4 months...Honestly for a lot of people it might satisfy the desire enough to not have to buy, or to wait for a sale then...I really wasn't a fan of having to spend 70, and was probably only doing that once to own one version, but now I'll have it for a while and save 70 and deal with it if it leaves...
No way is it just one month.

Everything MS owns stays on Game Pass, and they own the developers of Outer Worlds. There’s been a few games that are only on there for a short period of time, of the top of my head I remember GTA and Red Dead not being on there long.

Those were on 5ish months i think...I'm guessing this would be similar, at least 3-4, unless MS wants it a year

You're probably right, but it's still a SIE made game. I just wouldn't get my hopes up for it lasting longer than 1 month as we've really never had a scenario like this on Game Pass. If it does last 3-4 months though, great! Happy for XBox users. I used to be one and was annoyed I was stuck with 2k baseball or nothing for years and years.
    WOW
Guess it's a good thing saves don't carry over this year, makes the decision much easier for me. Especially since SSD space is at a premium until Sony eventually unlocks the SSD expansion slot.
Sucks to miss out on the loyalty card we usually get for having previous versions, but maybe I'll toss some of the money I was going to spend on the game toward packs.

Yes. When it comes to MLB The Show we must think about the poor PS users. Oh the humanity.

If I had a dollar for every time I saw an XBox user complain that the Show was a PS exclusive the past 10 years I could have bought San Diego Studios by now.
So don't come at some PS users who are annoyed a game they've been paying full price for for the last decade is suddenly a $15 launch title on Xbox for a period of time.

I kinda throw the "It's a SIE game" out the window since this actually happened...you don't really see MS add a game for 1 month, i think that would anger people more than be beneficial. I dunno though, just shocked this even happened, but i can always rebuy on sale later if i have to.

I'm probably just speaking out of my butt on this so you guys are probably correct. I haven't used Game Pass since 'Sea of Thieves' released so I'm a little out of the loop lol.
I also don't know why people would be angry to get to play a game for essentially free for a month before having to buy it though, but who knows (I'm assuming a majority of XBox users have Game Pass at this point). Gamers are always finding something to be upset about.
Happy for XBox owners! Game Pass is becoming a great value.
As someone who has a PS5 and a Series S, I have a (good, pretty minor) dilemma: do I enjoy my free copy of The Show on Xbox and potentially get locked into that platform for years if year to year franchise saves come back, or buy a full price game on a different platform like a dweeb?

I'd go PS5 honestly, especially if you plan on using year to year saves or are planning on getting a 4k TV in the future (or already have one). I wouldn't assume that The Show is going to be on Game Pass every single year.
If you had a Series X I'd be giving you a different answer though.
The only way I'd recommend getting the game for the S is if you're one of those super competitive Show players who bought a fancy 1440p monitor. Series S can only display 1440p max so that's why I'm bringing this up.
Question, do we know for sure we will get the series x/s edition of mlb the show 21 or if it’s just the last gen Xbox one edition. Only asking because nba 2k 21 last Gen is on game pass but the series x/s is not. I have the 84.99 series x/s edition pre ordered and I will cancel and wait the 4 days, tho the wait is gunna hurt.

now, im really eager to find out what are the differences between the next gen and old gen version (besides 4k60fps and stadium creator) really hope there are more considerable diferences such as more animations and better lightining, textures, physics (cloth, hair, etc)
Thanks for the quick reply. I also hope there is more of different btw last abs current gen then just resolution/frames and stadium creator. Just canceled my pre order, this saved me like 92 bucks after tax. If they would allow us to buy whatever the special edition gives u as dlc and then we could play it on the 16th would be amazing but I’m getting greedy and it’s not gunna happen.
This is amazing. Just canceled my X version preorder. Game pass is the best thing to happen to gaming since Xbox live was first introduced.

It is rather annoying as a PS player to pay full price while Xbox users get it as one of many games on GamePass.
That being said, if it is a limited time deal then I could see it being a decent decision. Get players hooked on Diamond Dynasty, let them build up a team and then the game gets removed from Game Pass 3 or 6 months down the line. How many of those players then will then turn around and buy it so that they don't lose the team they built up? It's like a drug pusher. The first taste is free.

I’m also pondering as I have a PS5 and Series S. I’m leaning PS5. I’m a stickler for playing a game on the first system I played it on. For example if won’t play Resident Evil on any system but PS.
This has nothing to do with Sony as they do not publish the game for Xbox.
MLB owns the only important thing which is the license. They forced Sony to make it on Xbox as well but MLB would be publishing the game on the xbox console.
So for Game Pass, MS paid MLB to get the game on their GP and Sony gets a cut of xbox copies sold but not GP subscriptions.
The 2 bad looks for Sony at this point is
If MS puts it on GP why can't sony put it on PS Plus
And Game Pass gives you the xbox and series x versions so last gen and next gen versions
Sony is charging you 90 to get the ps4 and ps5 versions or 60 for ps4 and 70 for the ps5 version. That to me is criminal
    I cant believe this
To play mlb 21 i have to either pay 70 plus tax for the 20th or 85 plus tax 4 days early.
Meanwhile in Xbox land its being given away...

Cloud streaming can work really, really well. xCloud currently is a little clunky though as they work towards the full rollout. If you'd like to test out your connection on a more seamless (at the moment) service that you can try on PC, check out Amazon's Luna - https://www.amazon.com/luna
Great news and honestly, a smart move by both Microsoft and SCEA to get this game out and available to as many people as possible Day 1.

Sorry but you had free choice of what next gen system you wanted to buy. I feel your pain though as an xbox user since the 360 came out, I really wanted the Show, so I had to buy a PS3 and a PS4 just to play. I'm just glad something baseball related goes the way of Xbox users this time.
Will The Show on Xbox have Sounds of the Show? Will the vault be cross platform?
I have both the PS5 and Series X but if the Xbox version is missing SOS and I can't get Ridin's rosters, it still might be worth it for me to pay $70 for the PS5 version.

Not everyone had a "free choice," though. This console launch felt more like a lottery. I think PS owners can be both cool with an exclusive going to XBox but salty it's on Game Pass. Even the XBox IGN podcast crew a few weeks ago dismissed the idea of the Show going to Game Pass. This news came out of left field, pun intended.
I'm so intrigued with learning the corporate details of how this went down. Hope we find out!
Just insane news. I wonder how much MS paid, but also I wonder if SDS sort of was into it just for this first year to make sure the net is cast wide and far so it's an easier sell to folks when it's maybe not on GP next year.

Yep, this was my thinking when I heard the news that this would be a great way to grow the Xbox install base out of the gate. Give folks a few months to play the game on GP and then next year, they'll be inclined to pay for the game at launch.
The only bummer for me is I just want it on PC! I don't have an XSX and have no interest, but I have GamePass on PC and it's delightful.

Hard to see MS not having the game next year on Game Pass. If they start to put things there for a year and remove it, people will not subscribe long term...This is just the start
What I think PS users have to remember is that, while yes you're going to pay far more for the Show than the Xbox user likely will this year, Sony had the only baseball game for the better part of a decade and no one was sympathizing with an Xbox user. Let's also not forget that, since this is the 1st time the Show is on Xbox, thats likely why its on gamepass to begin with, so I highly doubt next years game will also be on gamepass. It's really not the end of the world for 1 year when you were running unopposed for nearly 10 lol

My fear is, does this de-incentivize Sony from investing in the Show? You made an excellent point about MLB publishing the XBox version. Didn't realize that was the case, but that points to MLB pulling a power play.

Yea but how many Playstation 3’s and 4’s did mlb the show alone sell. I mean i know a bunch of us bought playstations over the year just for the show. I have the ps5 and the show preordered and dont own a xbox series x/s so not spending $400 plus to get the show free lol, but if this is the trend for gamepass (they also have outriders for free day 1 that just released) and xbox starts providing Multiple AAA titles a month , i will definitely get an xbox when they are easily available and might drop my loyalty to playstation these past 10 years. Also this is gonna kill physical disc sales this gen for places like gamestop.

I bought my first PS ever (Ps3) specifically for the Show. It opened me up to many other Sony franchises, but the Show definitely moved some systems.
I have both next gen systems, but no matter what system you own you cant deny microsoft has been delivering as of late. Crazy.
This is good news for gamers. My only question with the game pass version is does this mean I can play it on PC or will it be console gamepass exclusive. If its the former... boy oh boy... Xbox you'll have another Gamepass ultimate user for sure!

That still doesn't quite answer my question since Game pass is also on PC. It's just that not all games on Console Game pass made it to PC. Unless I'm understanding you wrong.

If it is possible to play The Show on PC this year it will be through the Cloud feature of GamePass. It won't be something that is downloadable in the GamePass Library for you to play locally on your PC since it isn't a PC game. You'll have to have GamePass Ultimate and stream the game via the Cloud to play it.

So I got the Series X because I'm heavily invested in the ecosystem, and I literally only had a PS4 for The Show. I was hoping it would be on Xbox this year, but shortly before it was announced I started getting nervous it wouldn't be so I got the opportunity to get a PS5 and I couldn't turn it down just to be safe. Of course days later it's announced for Xbox.
Now I have another choice to make. I almost pre-ordered it on PS5 last night because I wanted to see how it would make use of the Duel Sense. Something stopped me at the last minute. I planned on buying the Jackie Robinson edition so I could play four days early. Which I always do that every year.
So now what do I do? For me it's gonna kill me waiting an extra four days. But is four days worth paying $85 when I can wait four days and get it essentially for free?
    I know, first world problem.

Is there anything that would prevent Microsoft from yanking the game in a month or two so you'd have to buy the game anyways?

I thought about that. But usually with Game Pass games, they stay for a while. Some have been on for years. I would hope that this would at least be accessible until The Show 22. But yeah, that is a valid concern.

It isn't about what Sony can or can not say/do, in my opinion(which means nothing) its all about that first year getting it into as many hands as they can, so that they can follow up next year with making people buying it full price. Especially if they can convert people into buying the next gen version to get all the features it can give. It's a marketing strategy because you have to remember, its very beneficial to get as many individual sales as possible, over a flat fee that's been agreed upon.

Not many if you judge by the sales figures. They've been around the same number for many years now so its pretty negligible. I think you're overstating the Show's influence here and I say that as someone who bought a PS3 for the Show. I also don't think this will be a common trend for future years and don't think that gamepass can sustain what its doing , especially if they want to continue to get 3rd party games day 1 on their service, so there will likely be a raise in cost, which could hurt them. I also don't think physical goes away but even if it does, you'll still be able to buy games from places like Gamestop. I mean, PC gaming has been predominantly digital for over a decade now and you can still get codes from stores
Well, even though I have the XBOX/S (which I got by luck!) and I just got the XBOX-Live sub since I didn't have XB1, I am still buying the game.* The Xbox game pass is not for me because I really don't play any other games,* If I do, I play them on my PC. I am only going to play sports games on my XBOX/S due to most good sports games are on consoles like The Show...for now I guess.
But for people that exclusively play all types of* games on consoles, this is a GREAT deal!* Go for it!

GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 might be precedents to consider. They were the briefest stays I can think of, and each lasted about four months last year on Game Pass.
After the botched PS5 launch, I relented and got a Series X. I was really agonizing over missing The Show. As someone who isn't a fanboy of either, the timing to switch has worked out well.

From my understanding game pass games are there, thats why its a library of backwards compatibility, xbox is very good, im contemplating myself, do I just keep my ps4 pro, and skip ps5, and try to get the xbox.
The exclusives on sony are great but I only played the uncharted and some of god of War, my main reason for a playstation was the show and gran turismo. I miss games like forza, halo, gears of war.
Lately to i have not being liking the moves being done by Sony, I mean they started by shrinking the consoles servers from ps3, they never really made backwards compatibility work from there ps2/3 work in 4, offering. Ps now attempt at backwards compatibility truly is not worth it.
They add games in there and then remove them in a couple months, I could see trying to save on server cost on older consoles but they also shrunk the free games with plus down and until recently started to kinda have decent month to month releases, for the psn subscribers a month.
There currently closing the community servers this month I believe, so community's will be gone to.
All in all I see sony price grabbing and I see xbox saying where truly here for the people, besthesda just recently left sony to join xbox and bringing all there titles to xbox day 1 on xbox pass.
So now the show is on xbox and as I said xbox has not only there backwards compatibility working but at a seriously reasonable price. And there making it free, things are looking kinda suspect from Sony.
I'm aware you could purchase a computer and run most of this on there, that also speaks volumes in it self as to how far Microsoft has come, they not messing around, I dont have the money to build a solid gaming computer at 1800- 2500 dollars im fortunate enough to even have a console, so im trying to make the best possible choice for myself and weigh the options.
To each there own, im not trying to start a war. But for myself, I have a warranty on my current system covering my unit until this December, I may very well just let it go, keep my ps4 save up and go with xbox. I definitely wasn't purchasing the show on current 4 anyway and now I see this, its probably a wrap for me and sony.
I wasn't that impressed with what I saw in sonys upcoming ps5 titles and outside of gran turismo 7 the rest was kinda like ok, the graphics look good but is that something ima play? Probably not.
Another rumor possibly is still down the line a little bit, but ive also heard was once ps5 really kicks off, they could be shutting support off of the 4 just like they did the 3. That remains to be seen, for this generation but its already been proven in the past and yet Microsoft steady adding on and steady building.
I'm more disappointed in Sony. Jim Ryan the head of Sony said he didn't believe in gamepass that it was unsustainable and then they pull this move. Yes I know that there are more factors with the MLB getting involved but still this looks bad for them.

I'm not disappointed. if it is indeed unsustainable, all Sony needs to do is sit back and watch it fail. but personally I think it's a good business move. these games aren't up there permanently and what gamepassers are doing is renting. and not even renting to own. and both of those aren't the wisest decision in the long run as a consumer IMO

don't people pay to use gamepass? nothing is free, my friend. and gamepassers are missing out on a lot of stuff, like actually owning anything, or early release or any other goodies that can come with a purchase.
and that may be a fair trade-off, for some people. but not everybody myself included. and this is a great time to sell the ps5, at profit, and switch to xbox
Why would Sony sell their studio?

exactly. I still think Show on gamepass is actually good for Sony. they need to reach a larger audience to see how good a product they have. after that, everything will take care of itself IMO

Ive had this happen to me on sony where I purchased a digital copy of wwe 2k17 and I removed it from my hard drive, I went back to install it only to find that I couldn't, because sony removed there agreement with that particular company and they asked to remove all digital copies.
You'd think I could install it since its on my cloud with dlc I payed for but noped, you can see the dlc but not the game, the only way to even play it now is by having a disc version.
Both services are renting when it comes to digital, but I believe xbox side is the more grounded of the two. I signed into my profile just to see from years back and there's still titles up there to be downloaded and played, you don't get with sony.

It's a pretty big opportunity for the development of the title, more people will have access to MLB The Show on release day than have probably ever bought it over it's entire lifetime on the Playstation platform.

This is a slap in the face to those of us who have supported the game for years on PlayStation and are still being asked to pay full retail price on the platform this year.

I expect that MS putting the game on GP with the blessing of MLB indicates the start of the end for Sony San Diego making the game. Once this new deal runs out they most likely will not pay MLB to be the ones to make the game if it has to be multiplat and I fully expect the license to go over to EA or 2K

Why? Sony wants their version of FIFA where they make a billion dollars off of ultimate team. If Sony didn’t want Xbox to have the game they wouldn’t have re-upped the license.

nah. all gamepass does is let xbox owners rent. you can rent games on PlayStation using gamefly
For anyone that didn’t know, there’s an amazing way for new subscribers to Game Pass to stack 3 years of membership at an insane rate.
As a new Game Pass Ultimate subscriber, you can initially transfer your Xbox Live Gold sub into Game Pass Ultimate at a conversion rate of 1:1.
I never had an Xbox One, so jumping back into Xbox with the Series X I just created a new gamertag, I couldn’t remember what email I even used for my old one lol.
So with a new account, and after seeing this crazy deal, I searched the web for the cheapest way for me to stack 3 years of Xbox Live Gold to my account. Normally it costs $60/year, but I think I found a few for $50. So I think I paid $160 for 3 years of Xbox Live Gold. I then paid the $1 it costs to sign up for Game Pass Ultimate, and as a new subscriber it transfers, up to 3 years, your Xbox Live Gold sub into Game Pass Ultimate 1:1. So starting in November when I got my Series X, I was locked in to Game Pass Ultimate for 3 years for a whopping $161. If you just straight up paid for 3 years of Game Pass Ultimate, at $15/month, it’s what $540?
You can only do this once as a new subscriber I believe. And after this, adding things like Xbox Live Gold to your account, or EA Play, do convert into Game Pass Ultimate but not at the 1:1 conversion rate. I think a year of Gold would only get you 3 months of GPU. And they only let you stack 3 years of GPU at a time to your account.
So for anyone that’s never had GPU and was considering it, I’d highly suggest finding the cheapest Xbox Live Gold subs you can find, stack as much as you can (up to 3 years), and then for $1 you’re set with Game Pass Ultimate for a long time. It’s an insane deal, and even better considering Game Pass just keeps getting better and better.
I should add, $161 is cheaper than the cost of 3 games at retail. Heck, maybe even 2 a this point with how expensive they’ve gotten. I paid $161 to have access to an enormous library of games, that keeps growing and getting better and better.
Yes, games do leave Game Pass for sure. As someone who has had it since November, there’s not a single game that I’ve either tried or have been interested in that has left the service yet.
And in the Shows case...I preordered for PS5 as well. Had a preorder on Series X but cancelled it once this Game Pass news hit. If for some reason it doesnt stay on Game Pass too long, I’ll gladly buy it then. As a Game Pass subscriber, you can outright buy any game that is on the service to own it as well, and you get a discount. Great stuff.
and the above two posts is why gamepass is good for all gamers, not just xbox'ers. at some point in the future Sony will need something similar to remain relevant
As others have said, there are always deals to get Game Pass cheaper than MSRP, you just have to keep an eye out for the deals. For example last November, I added 2 years for a little over $50.
Another thing to consider is using Microsoft Rewards. I use my rewards to get Xbox credit, but you can also use them to get Game Pass, which can basically make it free. Destin Legarie from IGN posted a good video explaining how all this works recently on his YouTube page, if you are interested you should look it up.

I don’t think so. This game does well for Sony on their consoles. This will only make Sony more money now and might be able to compete with other sports titles IMO. Like others have mention this helps SDS and Sony in the long run because more people get exposure to the game on Xbox than ever before possible. I can guarantee you that many who were on the fence before and unwilling to pay $70 for a baseball game might just do it after trying it out and seeing how good the game is. Also, this game is profitable for Sony. If it wasn’t they would’ve just dropped out. There’s tons of people who are Xbox fans who only buy a PlayStation for this game alone.

SSD can make other games to earn money that would more likely outsell the show easily
Sony has to be upset that MLB forced them to make it on xbox and blindsided by the backroom deal between xbox and mlb to put it on game pass when they are charging full price and they made the game.
If I was SSD I would ask out of the deal and go make a dope exclusive game not sports and not deal with the optics
People ask why can't Sony put the game on plus like MS did with Game Pass but that would mean that the show would be making less for Sony in the long rung specially after being on ps5 where they will charge you 70
Sony has no control over the show going to xbox or game pass but the optics are awful that they are tweeting pre order today for 70 dollars while MS is tweeting day one game pass
    HozAndMoose
Its a fact. Gamepass is great but when you stop paying you cant play.

That is like saying I bought a 70 dollar Call of duty and cannot play it once i stop paying for ps plus.
People that get into game pass are not going to stop paying for it. The value is to good. Plus you can but it at a discount as a member of game pass later on when is on sale and have it for life

The show has a strong audience but is not a big one. The show before ps4 di not even crack 1 million in sales. Not sure what it sold last year but a quick search shows it was at 1 million and a bit more yearly which is not a big seller on a console with 125 million sold.
SSD can make another game of their choice as a sony exclusive and I bet it would outsell the show easily.
Putting the game on xbox would be a more profitable situation for sony but not when MS paid MLB to publish the game and put it on game pass. That reduces significantly the amount of people who will buy it on xbox and the money sony would receive.
How this looks for Sony today?
They are making a game for their console and charging 70 while also making a game for their competitor and having that competitor put it on a subscription plan....

You do know anyone can join gamepass for $1 for 3 months right? Don’t try to downplay this like it’s not huge news. Most Xbox owners are on gamepass and this is huge. Saved me $70 up front and by the tone it comes off gamepass it’ll be cheaper than $70 that’s for sure.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yes you can, that's a special deal, not the standard. I'm not downplaying anything. The service model is literally you pay X amount of money and you get access to the games. You stop paying, you lose access. You're renting the games, you don't own them.
I'm a GamePass subscriber myself. This is how I'll be playing The Show now since I had zero plans to buy it anytime soon, so the news is big news and I know that. That said, some of the posts in here were people acting like this game was going to be free to all Xbox users to play for doing nothing. I was just stating you still have to pay the monthly fee to have access to the game, so they aren't getting the game for free.

It’s chess not checkers. It being on gamepass allows more people to have access to it. I can guarantee you next year a lot more people will buy it. These are corporations. They’re in it for money bro. The show makes a lot of money off diamond dynasty not just sales. I honestly think us gamers are making this a much bigger deal than these suits are. Microsoft paid a bag to have this on gamepass to entice more people to join Xbox and gamepass. Everyone is getting paid. It’s all a strategy to make more in the end.

You also can play most of your Xbox games on xbox, PC, Tablets and phones.
The game pass is huge old Xbox games, EA play and a few other major companies.
The games even on xbox gold are better than what Playstation usually offers for free.
I am not sure what the debate is about. Game Pass is a Great Deal. The more games you play using the service the better the value is.
But no matter how great of a deal it is you can't argue that it is not, essentially, a rental (same as PS Plus). You have access for as long as you pay and as long as the game stays on the service.

do we know if MLB paid Sony to publish the gamepass version?

Why would MLB pay Sony for MLB to be the publisher of the game on Xbox?
The publisher is the one that makes the money for you. There is no chance that Sony said yes go put the game on game pass to get more players.
This is a backdoor deal between MLB and Xbox which is why Sony is not the publisher for the xbox version.

We might never know the full scope but think about this.
If Sony was good with the Show being on Game Pass day 1 why are they not the publisher. Before this was announced the xbox version was published by Sony but this was a deal between xbox and mlb which I am sure cost MS big money to give MLB. Now does MLB give Sony a cut from that bag? If am MLB I would say no because we are publishing the game and you get the cut from all games that are sold by xbox consoles.
Believe me the dudes who love baseball will most likely buy the game on xbox maybe after a month or so with a discount from game pass. Many who are not will play it and be done with it because the show is not for casuals
MS did this to enhance the optics of game pass. Sony has to be pissed that this happened because if MLB and MS put the game on game pass say 6 months later, Sony would not care at that point but this is a sony made game that is being put on game pass when they are charging their loyal customers money for the game
At the end of the day the game will sell most on ps5 easily over what xbox would have done without game pass
If am SSD and it happens again next year I will look to not be part of the license because it is just a bad look and Sony cannot afford to put the game on ps plus....day 1

Cool, let’s keep guessing then. It’s been fun thus far.
Xbox owners have been without a legit baseball game for so long, I think they are owed this, lol.
As much as people are endlessly praising game pass, I do fear that going down the road of including yearly sports games in these value subscription services will lead to a dialing back of development, and an even smaller year over year improvement/change in these titles. Feels like that could lead to an even bigger push towards leaning on microtransaction monetization and esports focus. Be careful what you wish for.

Maybe, maybe not. MLB is super concerned with getting a younger fanbase right now. That's why they forced the game you be multiplat to begin with. They want to get as many younger fans to have baseball on their mind as possible. It wouldn't shock me if MLB was just as happy to get it in as many hands as possible as they would have been with the revenue.

Then MLB should have also asked playstation to put it as a PS+ game or on PSnow.
and this is a great time to sell the ps5, at profit, and switch to xbox

Exactly what I plan on doing if the game plays well on the Xbox.
Is every gamepass game playable on a PC or android phone? If so, that really changes things for me as well. Taking the Show on the road with a phone or tablet would be really neat.

Let’s be honest, year over year changes in most sports games do not deserve full price. Of the big 3 sports, I would say that NBA 2K usually improves the most. MLB tweaks gameplay, which in my opinion is the best overall, and Madden really just keeps taking free money.

Whatever the deal is, I believe all the in game purchases (stubs) still go to SDS so in that case everybody wins.

I cant find the article now but it said something to the extent that gamepass users spend 20% to 30% more on in-game items than none gamepass users. Which if true more money from stubbs as you were saying. Also iv never im still looking for articles that show how much a game being in gamepass effects actual copies of the game being sold.

so my question is, is there still enough value in pre-order bonus and 4 days lf early play to justify buying a premium edition vs just getting it free on gamepass. As a diamond dynasty player i will lose out on double daily bonuses as well as a ton of packs early on. So how much extra grinding or purchasing of stubbs will i need to spend to make it up.

I don't expect MLB The Show to remain on GamePass for the entirety of the season, but I definitely would welcome it if actually does stay on GamePass until the next release or even after that as well.

Then MLB should have also asked playstation to put it as a PS+ game or on PSnow.

That makes no sense. It's about getting this game into as many hands of XBox gamers as possible. It's available for the first time ever to them and what better way then offer it on Gamepass which requires only $15/month.
The Show already has the built in base on Playstation.

This notion that MLB is more concerned with kids getting access to the game and not about the more money they can make is not something that makes sense to me.

That kind of thing is super common in business. Companies sell products at a loss with hopes of making it up on the back end with other sales. Most consoles start this way. This would basically be a loss leader for free. They never had Xbox revenue before, so it's not like they're actually losing anything.

From Sony stand point. They will not put the game on Plus because that means they have to pay a big bag to MLB which Sony will never.
From MS stand point. They are willing to spend money and paid heavily IMO to MLB to get the game on GP. That is lost revenue for MLB for sure because many who are not baseball fans will try it and be done with it. PS4 damm near sold 125 million consoles and the show had to break a sweat to sell 1 million copies yearly
Those that want Sony to put it on Plus are not thinking straight and are speaking on emotions which i get.
But think about this. The GP version comes out on release day....Most hardcore the show fans pay extra to play it early. Sony still has that advantage over MS and even more now that the game is on GP.
Sony will sell early high priced copies and make money. MS is more concerned with the optics of GP.
Sure sony fans pay more but they get to play early as well.
You have to be a serious MLB fan to pay for early release on xbox if you have GP...Some will but many won't
There's been talk about cross-platform play between PS5 and XBox Series X. Are we sure about this? Rewatching the next-gen features trailer, I couldn't help but notice it promotes cross-platform play between PS5 and PS4. Was this just a case of the reporters from IGN and such video game publications making poor assumptions? They have a track record of doing that.

Series X/S, PS5, Xbox One, and PS4 can all play each other. A dev on The Show’s forum confirmed this.

Same, I have no issue paying the difference at all. But kind of just stinks we get short end of the stick with paying for a game thats free day 1.

I’m with you both on this. And I don’t play DD, so I’m just paying for the early access since I took some time off work to play.
I am happy to support this development team, though.

This is making my "buy a ps5 for MLB the Show" decision look bad.

It doesn’t have to. There is a reason that Sony PlayStation is the king of video games consoles. I personally would never own an Xbox. But, to each their own.

Lol, these comments are always the best.
Unless you are only on PlayStation but really want to be a part of GamePass, you're not missing out. If anyone is thinking that this single handedly makes GamePass worth it, then I'm not sure they understand how GamePass works. If The Show is all you would play on GamePass then it would make more sense to not subscribe and just purchase the game. Outside of specials, it is $15 per month. After 4 months you would have paid the same price as The Show is to buy.
For all of the PS users who keep saying this makes them regret going with PS over Xbox, that should only be the case if you would be using GamePass for more than The Show.
If you're a GamePass user and are split which console to go with, this should make it a no brainer. Why wouldn't you go with the GamePass version since it wouldn't cost you anymore than you already have been spending on GamePass. I know $60 isn't that much money, but it also isn't worth spending to have the game just a couple of days early, not to me at least.

Agreed with this, for me, the mix of Gamepass (because I haven't played the XBOX Exclusives in quite awhile) mixed with EA Play, and MLB makes it very tempting. I have a PS5, but I'm actively looking for a XSX to at least try out GamePass because Forza, GOW, Halo, and future additions look to be worth it.
But agreed, the cost does not balance out for a single game.
If you own both Series X and PS5 the choice is super easy where to play it and it has zero to do with Game Pass.
Series X if you own a tv with HDMI 2.1 and is 4k 120hz you can output that for all games even those that have a 60fps cap.
    The advantage?
It lowers input lag by about 8ms compare to playing it on PS5 which will be at 4k 60hz output
In a game like the show input lag is critical and for example on my LG CX I can get 4k 120hz native output at all times and my input lag would be about 5.5ms but when I turn on the PS5 it would be 4k 60hz for all games except the ones that offer a 120fps mode which is extremely limited. At 4k 60hz which is what the PS5 does 98% of the time the input lag is 13.5ms

Oh goodie...been a while since we've had a good ol fashioned console war...

In one corner we have the Sony Playstation, the "King of Video Game Consoles". In the other corner we have the Microsoft Xbox, "The No Brainer". I could see this one going the distance with both sides throwing haymakers left and right the entire way.

As a gamepass user im actually slightly annoyed that it will be on gamepass as i am now robbed of early access and preorder bonuses which i enjoy having for diamond dynasty. Now i could wait 4 extra days and spend $80 in stubbs to boost my DD team but im still robbed 4 days early access.
