DFS Strategy For May 20: Targeting Weak Pitching Matchups

Today, we’re building DFS baseball rosters based solely on the opponent. There are several promising matchups today, and most rely on the ineffectiveness of the player’s opponent.

Note: Lineups obviously aren’t finalized yet, so don’t hold it against us if one of these selections doesn’t play. We all play DFS for fun, anyway…right?

Top DFS Player Picks For Today’s Lineup

  • Chayce McDermott (Sp, Orioles)
  • Chase Meidroth (SS, White Sox)
  • Julio Rodriguez (OF, Mariners)
  • Brandon Marsh (OF, Phillies)

Chayce McDermott, SP, Baltimore Orioles

McDermott is a risky pick. The Orioles right-hander hasn’t fared well in the big leagues, with a career ERA of 9.0 across two big league starts. In his last outing, he got hit around by the Twins, allowing four runs over three innings. However, we want to allocate our salary elsewhere, and McDermott is facing a Brewers team that’s struggling offensively. He likely won’t rack up 25 points, but if he’s going to show some promise, tonight is a good opportunity for him to start.

Chase Meidroth, SS, Chicago White Sox

It’s rare to see White Sox players on the players-to-watch list these days, but Meidroth has a huge upside right now. The shortstop is hitting .391 over the past seven days. At a DraftKings salary of just $3000, Meidroth provides tremendous potential for value at a position that typically runs expensive. He’s also facing Casey Lawrence, a rare Mariners starter with a high ERA.

Julio Rodriguez, OF, Seattle Mariners

Few players in recent years have failed to live up to their hype like J-Rod. But the speedy outfielder is red-hot right now. Rodriguez has an average of .314 and an OPS of .837 in the past two weeks. Add White Sox pitching to the recipe, and he could be cooking. A bonus: J-Rod is always a stolen base threat, which nets huge points in DFS.

Brandon Marsh, OF, Philadelphia Phillies

Marsh is another player who is both red-hot and facing a struggling pitcher. In the past two weeks, Brandon Marsh has tallied a .333 average and .844 OPS. He also gets to face Rockies right-hander Antonio Senzatela, who brings a 6.39 ERA into the contest. The downside with Marsh is that he typically hits ninth, but the matchup potential is too good to overlook.
