Some of these mechanics are fairly well known and they’re explained relatively well in-game if you have tutorials enabled. However, other mechanics aren’t explained at all and you might not have any idea they’re in the game. One of those hidden mechanics in MLB The Show 25 is the Quick Pitch, which can your pitcher quite the edge in both offline and online modes.
Quick Pitching is a mechanic that’s been a part of MLB The Show for years, and it’s something veteran players do to gain an advantage over their opponents. However, depending on the mode you’re playing, Quick Pitching isn’t explained whatsoever in MLB The Show 25. In fact, the term “Quick Pitch” has been retired, as the game calls it something completely different now.
There’s a shroud of mystery over the Quick Pitch in MLB The Show 25, but that stops today. Below, you can learn all about the mechanic and when to make use of it during a game.
What Is Quick Pitching In MLB The Show 25?

Before you can learn how to Quick Pitch, you need to know what its intended use is for a pitcher. The Quick Pitch can be utilized to throw off a baserunner and batter by making a pitcher deliver their pitch much faster than normal.
When it comes to taking advantage of a baserunner, a pitcher can use a Quick Pitch when they know the runner is going to steal. This allows the pitcher to get the ball to the catcher much faster so they have a better chance of catching the runner stealing.
While you might think a Pitch Out is more effective, the Quick Pitch still delivers a normal pitch with the same process as any other pitch. So just in case the runner doesn’t steal, Quick Pitching can still yield a strike instead of a completely wasted pitch. However, if you’re 100% sure the runner is going on the next pitch, you may want to use the Pitch Out.
As for gaining an advantage over a hitter, the Quick Pitch wasn’t intended to be used in this manner. However, Quick Pitching has evolved over the years in MLB The Show and has frequently been used against batters instead of baserunners.
Players have used the Quick Pitch mechanic to throw batters off their timing. Batters often don’t expect pitchers to do an accelerated motion, which can lead to them taking a swing at a bad pitch, swinging way too early or too late, or simply not swinging at all. With the Quick Pitch in a pitcher’s repertoire, you can mix and match your pitching motions to truly keep the batters on their toes all game. Keep in mind, though, that this can only be done if a pitcher naturally pitches from the stretch.
How To Use The Quick Pitch in MLB The Show 25
Now that we’ve covered how the Quick Pitch can be utilized in MLB The Show 25, let’s go into actually using it in-game. The steps to Quick Pitch aren’t very in-depth, but you want to make sure you have the right situation on hand. Follow these steps to Quick Pitch:
- Quick Pitch can be used when your pitcher is in the stretch. This position is used when there’s at least one runner on base for most pitchers, though some — mostly relievers — naturally pitch from the stretch
- While in the stretch position, select the pitch type and location of the pitch you want to do. As you’re pressing the button of the pitch you want to throw, hold L2/LT at the same time and keep holding it until your pitcher delivers the pitch
- As long as you hold L2/LT at the right time and for the right duration, your pitcher will go into an accelerated motion and the ball will arrive at home plate faster
- You need to ensure you start holding L2/LT at the correct time, as pressing it too early will result in a pick-off move, and pressing it too late will result in a normal pitch

To see the exact controls for the Quick Pitch in MLB The Show 25, you can visit the “Controls” menu from the in-game settings. Here, tab over until you find the “Classic Pitching” specific controls. On the left side of the controller, you’ll see the term “Deceptive Move.” This is the new term for the Quick Pitch, but it functions the same way as previous years.
It might take a few practice attempts to get the Quick Pitch down in MLB The Show 25, but once you understand how it works, using it will be like second nature. You might do a few accidental pick-off moves from time to time, though. It’s okay, we’ve all been there.
Best Times To Quick Pitch In MLB The Show 25
With the basics of the Quick Pitch out of the way, when is the best time to use it in-game?
Well, as I previously mentioned, the Quick Pitch was intended as a way to catch baserunners stealing or keep them at bay. With the pitch being delivered much quicker, you can give your catcher more time to deliver an accurate throw and get an easy out. Of course, when you Quick Pitch with this in mind, you want to have a fairly good idea that the runner is planning on stealing.

Quick Pitching doesn’t allow you to have as much control over your pitch as a pitch with a normal delivery. So if you Quick Pitch too much and a runner doesn’t try to steal a bag, you’re risking giving up a big hit to the batter. If you’re pretty sure a runner is going to steal, then use a Quick Pitch once or twice to see if they do. If they don’t steal, return to normal pitches. However, if you’re 100% positive a runner is going, then you want to use the Pitch Out mechanic, which gives your catcher the best possible chance at nabbing the baserunner.
On the other hand, if you’re comfortable with pitching in MLB The Show 25, you can use the Quick Pitch sparingly to throw off a batter’s timing, as we talked about earlier. You don’t want to Quick Pitch too often, though, as the batter will eventually catch up to how the pitch delivery looks and then it will no longer be as effective.
The best way to throw batters off with Quick Pitches is by using it every so often. If you mix in a Quick Pitch once every at-bat, you keep each batter guessing as to what delivery you’re going to use, which can really mess with their timing and confidence.
Using the Quick Pitch against batters is most effective in online modes in MLB The Show 25. Quick Pitching against CPU opponents can still yield good results, but you want there to be a human element involved. Human opponents will struggle much more with trying to guess a pitcher’s timing if you’re mixing in faster pitching motions once every several pitches.
And that’s all we have on the Quick Pitch mechanic and how to use it in MLB The Show 25. It’s a terrific tool to have at your disposal when on the mound, but only if you use it in the correct ways.
