Again, Schmeichel?

How The New Goalkeeper Backpass Rule Works In EA FC 26

Now active on all modes, EA FC 26‘s new goalkeeper backpass rule sees a keeper automatically hoof the ball forward following a second return to their hands, either consecutively or after a few exchanges with teammates. The thing is, the automatic shot is only triggered under these conditions, which means that, unfortunately, performing constant one-twos between your GK and CBs/RBs to waste time is still very much allowed.

How To Beat Time Wasters In EA FC 26

As the new feature did not tackle the root of the issue when dealing with players who love to waste time, you can counter backpassers in EA FC 26 by first switching to a high line formation and changing your team’s approach to Aggressive. Now, simply stay on the ball carrier and double-tap R1/RB before holding it to activate Partial Team Press. This will cause two of your players to cover the passing options/lines and bait interceptions. You will know the function is active by the blue icon at the top of your players.

Just keep in mind that the aggressive approach might leave you vulnerable at the back. In other words, don’t overcommit to give your opponent a quick counter. Remember, time wasters are bound to become impatient and make mistakes, especially when pressed this tightly. To recap, here’s how to counter time wasting in EA FC 26:

  • Switch to a formation featuring a high line.
  • Change your tactical focus to Attack (Do not use High Press, as it might take your defenders off position)
  • Stay on the ball and use Partial Team Press to kill your opponent’s passing options.
