  1. Wow I am surprised! Slow speed setting is actually slow. Fouls like shoulder barges are finally counted as fouls. The ball physics are much improved. Tons of new face scans. With the right slider set this can be an all time great.
It may be a small thing, but the size of GK gloves has been fixed. They are the right size compared to last year. Just a small pet peeve of mine.
I can't get over these ball physics. The ball bends the way it should, bounces the way it should, etc. Helps a ton with the ADD.
    Absolutely buzzing right now!

Love your optimism but I’m sure once the FUT boys throw all their toys out their pram, EA will once again ruin what could be a great game with endless patches. It really would be nice if they left it alone but I won’t hold my breathe.

This very well can happen. They need to have different modes like they have in Madden. Sim, arcade, comp.
Well after 1 game I must say I'm more impressed with the trial than I ever was with the demo; demo felt just like fifa 19, trial felt completely different. I may have to reconsider on my initial thought of skipping this year's version. Even though it was a very small sample, after my 3 night's of work I will give it a good run through Sunday, but it does look very promising and as I said before a lot more promising than the demo ever gave me.
My first takeaway is they actually have black youth players if you scout in South Africa.....but half are still white, lol.
I'm not sure who's in charge of coding for the menu screens, but he/she should be fired. When the game adds in all these new "messages," you DON'T TAKE OUT the button that takes you directly to the messages. It's the most annoying thing in the world.
Speaking of messages, it's the most rediculous addition to the game. It also seems half baked. You can't delete any of them, so after a month or two of playing in a season, you have 15 messages that go no where.
It probably took them two weeks out of the development cycle to do it, and it really feels like it wasn't very well thought out from a usability standpoint.
I get why they added it though. The press conferences deal with "team morale," and the messages deal with individual player morale, but it still feels half done and ends up being annoying to deal with.
Just like every year, I really wish they would have done a youth system overhaul. Sadly we get annoying messages from a 53 rated reserve complaining he's not playing more than a 63ovr starter.
    There's always next year
I played at lunch and i feel extremely optimistic about FIFA 20. Gameplay feels organic and unpredictable. Also the pace is significantly slower and more realistic as any soccer game I’ve played. And I’ve played them all... so far so good

Played 2 15 minute halves of a "Kick Off" mode game on WC with all assists on and Legacy Defending. There is a lot to be optimistic about with FIFA 20, but a lot of the "issues" are still there.
I was Arsenal against Newcastle and wow. Newcastle was horrific. 70% passing looking to counter and play long ball and they were clearly outclassed. I led 3-0 at halftime. Yes things can change in the second half, but I wanted to see how Arsenal would do against a tougher opponent.
Next game was at Etihad against City. What a difference. 87% passing and MC was clearly a better outfit with more skill everywhere. Even with assisted passing it was difficult to maintain possession because unlike Newcastle, City pressed all over the place. They even had a couple of yellow cards. I was down 4-0 at half. I decided to stop there thinking about how I would tactically deal with that next time.
Fast forward 3 hours later and I decide to start an Arsenal career mode. I skipped the pre-season tournaments and went straight to the press conference. Post press conference my team morale is happy.
First game is against Newcastle. Same settings. I'm down 3-0 at the half. 4 shots hit the post, Torreira missed one wide open from inside the 6yd box where the goalie was outside of the posts and the game resembled nothing like the Kick Off mode. Clearly the Career Mode garbage that has been in FIFA for years still exists. No fouls either.
I would say there is a fair amount to like about the game, but a lot of the same cheese still exists. It's the same feeling of kind of knowing when you're going to give up a goal and just thinking, "it would be great if they just..." There's probably a good game here, but I'm not going down the slider rabbit hole and then having everything re-adjusted every time a patch comes out to appease FUT kids.
If anything I'll probably do what I've done the last three years and wait until it's half price at the most.

Why would they take that out? That has to be a mistake that will be fixed in the day one patch, surely.
EDIT: I downloaded the trial. I get it now. Dumb move on their part.
I mainly sim my first season while I accumulate youth players. I'm using Salford or whatever the new League 2 team is.
After one season, I'm about as annoyed as I've ever been playing career mode.
I got promoted to league one via the playoff, and what do you think my job security score was? 70? 60?......I wish...it was 49, and I met EVERY EXPECTATION the board had.
Here's what happened: I got tired of dealing with all these player messages, so I ignored them. The board started saying ,"your locker room is falling apart. Agents are complaining."
That was after I BEAT Chelsea in the FA Cup! The players that were complaining, (this part really irked me,) were players that had singed a contract to play for a different team the next year. They were sending endless messages about minutes! Lmao! Seriously? They are leaving, how does the board penalize me for not playing them, or addressing their bickering in a message?
This may be one of my shortest years playing FIFA in over a decade. Heck, it may be the first time since the late 1990's I don't even buy the game. The yearly purchase has become second nature, but they went in a really funny direction.
I was so happy when they fixed getting fired by boards with itchy trigger fingers, but what they have done, is brought that back X's 1000 with the new messages. I got promoted, but because players leaving were sending me messages about play time, I end up with a 49 job score.....and that's with meeting all other expectations they laid out!
Hopefully this can be patched. The sad part, is the game play is really enjoyable this year so far. But, ea has to do something nobody wanted. It wouldn't be an EA game if that didn't happen.
    casual soccer gamer.
Only 2 play now game impressions.
Probably going to get slammed for this but I'm going to be honest -
overall game sort of feels boring.
I did like the cpu defense challenging you more than ever in the game. And liked that not every shot hits the posts 10 times a game like last year.
Tried the Volta thing and don't really get it but once I have some time to sit down and play extensively, will read up on it.
Presentation - the FUT presentation overlays i liked from 18/19. This year it's not as polished and sharp. I guess just a preference.
I tend to bounce between PES and Fifa year to year and this year I’m feeling Fifa.
The graphics immediately jump out at me. Fifa 20 is probably the best looking sports game I’ve seen.
Gameplay is smooth, presentation is great. I played 2 games on world class with 10 minute haves and fouls were non existent. Anyone else seeing a lack of fouls?
I really love the AI aggressiveness. They play like they are human controlled. I also like they will do long passes on a regular basis. For the longest time they never did unless you adjusted sliders a certain way. But now, by default they do long passes and are aggressive both offensively and defensively. They won't hesitate to counter attack you either. Also noticed they love doing the give n go a lot if it is available.
Volta isn't my thing, but you can have fun with it. One of these years I hope they upgrade their instant replay system. It is so outdated, just give us a free camera that we can move around. Tired of having to cycle through the players just get the camera to focus on the player I am looking at and not the ball. Weather effects and weather options haven't changed.
Couple of the celebrations appear to be glitchy. It will start then it will go to an all black screen for 5 seconds then go back to the rest of the celebration. The ball physics are pretty awesome this year.
    Thus far:
+ Ball physics: Ball seems looser than ever this year. I've seen plenty of shoddy attempts coming off the wrong foot, even seen the keeper botch a few. True football, love it.
+ VOLTA: Haven't really touched it yet to be honest, but I loved FIFA Street and anything is better than The Journey.
    - Ultimate Team: FUT haters rejoice, they've really lost the plot. Look, I love the odd round of FUT, but it's all NBA Jam antics and Billie Eilish kits this year. It's like they're saying "Bill, please leave FUT and never come back again." Fine. Mystery Ball is a nightmare, good thing most will never play it. King Of The Hill? Listen, any mode where I can put more balls in the back of the net than my opponent and still manage to lose the match is a bad idea. Not only is it not football, it's not any fun.
Of course, all of these new UT arcade modes had to come at a price. My favorite FUT mode, the relatively straightforward Single Player Seasons, is apparently gone. Gutted like a fish, no warning, no "thanks for playing." EA, you could have at least sent me a text.
After one quick match (Spurs v Dortmund) I must say, in comparison to the demo, it's like night & day.
Compared to what was possibly the worst representation of football I've ever seen in that demo, this retail version is considerably better. Smooth, responsive, looks & sounds great & gameplay is good (for fifa).
Quite impressed, so preparing myself for the inevitable patches that'll ruin it!

In case anyone is interested in seeing how much player and team morale matter in career mode this year lol
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_i5ROpHZ3xI&feature=youtu.be

Did you see what their morale was before you resigned the players? I'm curious if the players morale actually did change and same with team morale. Ive posted this earlier, but it's obvious that the whole morale/messages thing was half-baked. Nobody asked for this nonsense and in the end it broke career mode. Why they added this stuff instead of a youth system overhaul is beyond me.
I played about 6 matches WC difficulty 10 minutes halves Slow speed and honestly can't see much difference between this year's version and last year's besides the slightly improved ball physics. I think defending is pretty bad this year (worse than last year IMO) with players just jogging and standing around while with almost no one even trying to mark it's really strange. Is anyone else seeing this? Also it is really easy to play a ball behind the defence or just get behind them all together. Will play more but I am a little disappointed in what I've seen initially.

Anyone else seeing a lack of fouls?

While there could still be more I'm seeing more fouls than I did last year. What really stands out to me are red cards. In three preseason tournament games I picked up two red cards for fouls that have never been red cards in FIFA. One of them I don't agree with, but I'd rather see harsh calls than no calls at all!

    Royce,
I feel the same way. It all feels similar to 19 to me and is like "Been there, done that". I am still getting the game for Pro Clubs but I am not seeing much differecne from last year except the ball physics as you said.

The AI controlled defending is as bad as you’ll ever see in a FIFA game. I’m praying this is either not a final build, or we see a SIGNIFICANT day 1 patch. Will be diving in more this weekend, but early returns were actually unplayable for me...

I've been playing fifa since 11/12 and this must be the worst AI i've seen (although 18/19 are not exactly much better). Hop over to the new sliders thread for fifa 20 for some more footage and discussion.
If anyone has the trial and is not sure about buying or not it would be very wise to save some hours in order to check on the state of the game again after the first patch or two.
I just hope people reviewing the game will help the cause this year, because sadly this looks like the end of football games for me. Not that it's the end of the world, I'll be more than happy to return to older games.
I actually liked the demo, but this feels better so far.  Pace seems a little slower and heavier, very noticeable difference between the bigger and smaller guys, both in speed and physicality.  The CPU is still attacking me in a variety of ways, and scoring some pretty sweet goals as well.  Not tons of fouls so far, but I've seen some and even a few cards so it's not a game breaker for me.
Looking forward to playing some more.  I'm really liking PES, but neither game is perfect and I can enjoy each for different reasons.  Hopefully that first couple of patches won't be too jarring for the game play.
People are saying that CPU teams are still starting matches in Career Mode with their best players still on the bench. What happened to THIS? "Improved the algorithm used by AI teams to determine their starting XI. The thing that I have realized about fouls is that you're never going to see the amount of fouls that you see IRL being that you are only playing a fraction of 90 minutes. If we saw a realistic amount of fouls then you'll be throwing your controller out the window.
I really enjoy FIFA every year, I really enjoy PES too. Both offer up different views of the beautiful game. Having said that, I'm pretty much fed up with EA removing FIFA game modes and features, all of which seem to be the ones I use the most for some bizarre reason:
+ Custom music/chants: Great for creating authentic stadium atmosphere. Gone.
+ EA Gameface: I used this religiously for player career. Gone.
+ Match of the Week: Great way to explore teams, leagues and rivalries I wasn't familiar with. Gone.
+ Creation Centre: Need I say more? Gone.
This year it's Single Player Seasons in FUT. Again, I enjoyed this mode for exploring leagues I'm not familiar with. Gone. I get it, EA needs room for new modes such as VOLTA, which I'm sure I will like since I loved FIFA Street. But for whatever reason it's always at the expense of other modes that I play the most. Maybe it's just me and no one else cares, maybe I'm just unlucky.
On the positive, I am really looking forward to checking out the Career Mode improvements. Having said that, I'm likely purchasing PES this weekend. If the game modes are hit and miss, and gameplay is equally important, I may end up on the other side this year.

Is there no single player in FUT at all now then? If so I wont even be bothering to check it out this year for the trophies. I only ever play FUT to get the easy trophies and then never touch it again that year. But if its online only that mod can **** right off.

Oh no, there is totally still single player in FUT. It's Single Player Seasons that has gone missing, the mode where you can play (for example) a Serie B or League 2 schedule with your FUT squad to earn promotion to higher rankings. Now they're pushing you toward spending coins on FUT Draft or playing some eSports celeb's mega-squad, which I have literally zero interest in.

Shows how much I know about FUT. I thought Single Player Seasons was the only single player mode. Its all I ever used. So if its gone, I wont even bother starting the FUT up even once this year.

It sucks because it would be really fun to rebuild Chelsea around all their kids.

Every year I'm annoyed with the lack of attention career mode gets, but this year I'm just confused
Gaming is all about feedback loops. Playing in matches, obviously the feedback loop is the competitive nature, scoring, not scoring, etc. It drives you to say to yourself, "one more game."
What's the feedback loop for the messages? Do they make the player want to repeat the process over and over because it's enjoyable? Heck no.
Do they become a tool for the player? Not that I can tell.
They're a bunch of nonsense that seem to follow a logic, but ultimately don't. In the end, all the messages seem to be, are hundreds of things they put into the game to a) tell us they added a HUGE thing to career mode b) keep us doing something. They are the "busy work," of FIFA.
And I will say this again......Nobody has ever asked for this. Gameplay has improved, but what's the point of they ruined everything else?

According to one of the community managers on Twitter they're aware of them not playing the best XI. Will it be fixed anytime soon though is anyone's guess.

"Edit Player" is completely broken. If you go into it and change anything, the player's positions get screwed up and you can't fix them. It was already bad enough that you couldn't create/edit someone to be a CM, LW, RW, LWB, or RWB, and now, we have to deal with THIS. I do a ton of editing, so if this isn't patched, it's going to be a hard pass for me, this year.

whoa wait a minute - single player fut seasons is gone?

Yes. I am assuming it's because they want to use "Seasons" as the new catchall term for their XP mode in FUT. So instead of renaming it or anything sensible... they just omitted it.
But look on the bright side: You can play against an eSports Superstar team with a 2x speed boost wearing kits with paint splatter on them.

I’ve only played three games so far, but not seen this yet even though a lot of people have said it.
I started with Liverpool, skipped preseason so 1st game was Community Shield vs Man City. Now they played a full strength team except Walker was on bench for Cancelo (not exactly a bad player), Jesus came on for Aguero in second half & Sterling replaced Sane. People like De Bruyne, Silva etc all played.
2nd game was Norwich in Prem & again full strength.
3rd was Chelsea in Super Cup, only noticeable difference to real life was Batshuayi played instead of Abraham’s upfront.

Is everyone also posting their concerns and bugs/glitches on the official EA FIFA forums as well? I can't say if it will make a difference or not but I'm guessing making noise in an more official place helps the cause as well. Right now everyone's voices are split between different social media spaces. Sure there are probably EA folks glancing around the internet here and there but it's easier to dismiss single voices this way.
At the very least getting the entire FIFA community to also post their concerns in a single place couldn't hurt. It's not like you have to retype your thoughts just copy and past into the EA forums. To bad some of these game changers and popular streamers can't/won't lead the charge so we can make some real noise.

Ok so I am enjoying the game so far, but the results in Career mode have been odd and I need to figure it out or it’s gonma drive me nuts. I play with Southampton, and on WC all default it seems I either win by 3+ or lose by 3+. I tried upping the marking to 75 for both player and CPU, and the first game was glorious. Then I played liverpool and lose 5-1 so idk what the heck I’m gonna do about this. Last year on WC default it was the perfect amount of challenging.
Back to my gripes about the career mode changes.
The more I've played and had to deal with the morale issues, one major set of flaws has come up.
I coach one of the better high school programs where I live, and the biggest part of my job isn't tactics, it's talking to my players. Asking them how things are going off the pitch, letting them know they had a bad game, but it's okay, because we will work it out in the film room and at practice. In real life there's a way to constantly prop up a down player, etc etc.
What bugs me about the new morale system, is there isn't a way to do that. If you look at the smiley face near a player they can be upset, but you can't approach the player until they send u a message. There's a huge gap in the logic. And when one of the orange or red faced players does send a message, if u ignore it, there's no way to recover from it.
If they are going this route, they need to have a system where a coach can check in with any player at anytime. Just like you can negotiate contracts, you should be able to send players messages to keep them going, not wait for the bottom to drop out and have your board take your score from a 75, to a 49 because players aren't happy.
The changes, as I've mentioned, weren't well thought out or implemented. Based on the way EA deals with "new changes," they tend to put them in and not make any improvements. Training and the scouting system come to mind. This is another "system," they have added, and more than likely the only future changes to it, will be hyped next July or August as ,"200 new senarios and dialogue choices," but nothing happens to implementation or logic.
I will also admit, it's very difficult to gauge this fully with only 10 hours of play time. I feel rushed every year, lol. But from what I've experienced, I will have to come up with ways to "deal with," the changes, instead of enjoy the changes.

I’ve posted about the lineups and the edit player bug. The problem with the bug forum is that everyone posts their own stuff instead of looking to see if the topic has already been mentioned. Then, it all just gets convoluted with a million different posts about the same thing and doesn’t get the number of “likes” or “me toos” to get the subject ranked high enough to get noticed.

Playing in League mode for now and when I played Arsenal, they had Nwakali and Saka upfront, Auba coming on in second half and Lacazette in the 85th. What rubbish. The gameplay on slow though is fine. I use an edited locale btw.
Career mode is just broken I see. Playing as Liverpool on Pro. City in the Community shield, 5-1 win. First PL game against Norwich at home, 0-2 loss. Chelsea in the Super cup, 5-1 win. Southampton away in the PL, 3-0 loss. Arsenal at home, 7-0 win. Burnley away, 4-0 loss. WTF is wrong with this games AI. Why is it yo-yo-ing between games like this. Its swinging from super easy, to you can't win no matter what you do because this is scripted and everything is going to go wrong for you. Its nonsense. I can't play this anymore.
There is no consistency between matches in difficulty or AI behavior. Let alone the ball physics still have the laser target lock crap in this mode where everything perfectly goes to the CPU team. And I've had all I can take of the errant passes for no reason. Two players 5 yards apart facing each other. No pressure at all. Tap the button, and its a wild pass the other player has to chase down which seems to be guided to an on rushing defender all the sudden who takes control. Its so infuriating.

I've often wondered if the "scripting," happens because of FUT? If I were a money hungry corporation I would script games so people would think, "these players aren't cutting it anymore. Time to go buy some packs!"
I have only played FUT a handful of times years ago. I never got into it and refused to purchase digital goods that were tied to "odds of getting something good."
But, if you want to sell more packs, you could "script," to give the impression of needing better players.
Ok. Tinfoil hat is off now, lol.
Holy crap, I LOVE Volta. Didn't expect that, lol. Reminds me of Speedball II from back in the amiga days. I haven't bought Fifa in a decade, but I might to cop this..

This is my first time Fifa since 16 or 17 - and I'd love it if it wasn't for the awful CPU defending and positioning. But it's so bad it takes away all the fun for me.
In situations such as in the video sequences below the CPU defenders constantly choose to run behind my attackers and follow them instead of cutting them off or challenging them for the ball.
Instead of quite comfortably stopping my straight run towards the goal they have absolutely zero chance to get near me or the ball.
Here's some video. This three situations alone happened in the first 20 minutes of a game (HUM vs. CPU) on World Class difficulty:

    Hope this gets patched.

I would be surprised if this gets patched. It is a legacy issue stemming to FIFA15. It's been coined the DAA Defensive Angle Animation on the sliders thread, for multiple years. It may be even more noticeable now because of all the other issues 20 currently has.
This was not on the prepatch beta, but as soon as they patched it, this is the first thing I noticed, which indicated a whole host of other issues.

100% honesty here...I was a little upset they added more modes like this before an online co-op Career Mode but I found myself having that "1 more match feeling" with Volta.
I originally posted the game felt boring.
So maybe it was the slower speed this year. put the speed on fast and it's not the speed. It's the controls - they are so sluggish.
I dont know if this game is meant for the offline player. Online players / FUT Online to be more specific, reading their comments they're saying the game requires more skill online. that you can really tell the difference now online between good vs not as good players.
that's fine and dandy but how does that help offline? I dont know if the patch can help some of the sluggishness of the controls.
I went back to 19 and really liked how it felt control wise. maybe too fast but i sort of like it like that.
Haven't tried FUT yet but this is the worst FIFA single player I can remember. They promised us an improved CM, but just about everything is broken. Meanwhile the gameplay is an inconsistent mess with some of the worst defensive AI possible.
This game feels like a build that should be six months away from release.
Well, I honestly thought after playing EA games for 20+ years I had seen it all.
I was just terminated from my manager position......for offering a player too much money.
18 year old (youth squad product,) CF Has Potential To be Special, 69ovr. He was getting paid 4k a week, I offered him 10k a week, plus a 50k signing bonus.

Have you run into the floater ball doing in at the keeper, and instead of simply catching it, he punches it up into the air? Has happened to me repeatedly and it cost me at two goals, lol.
I also thought they fixed defending? It doesn't matter how wide you set your wide defensive coverage to in tactics, outside defenders turn their backs on the wings in the defensive 3rd. The wings just run in behind them.
Idk if it's because I'm using youth players or if it's the same nonsense from previous years.

I've been asking for an option to turn off firings for as long as firings have been in the game. I despise it.
And you can turn it off in just about every other sports game (including EA's NHL and Madden).
I don't know what to do this year. Career Mode sounds completely ruined for me.

The CPU playing their bench players is THE ultimate game killer for an offline player like me.

Just a heads up, if you have a second controller you can edit the CPUs lineup before the match (and then give control back to the CPU before kickoff).
It's obviously not a complete fix as the terrible logic seems to have an impact on simmed games as well, but just figured I should mention it.
It's supposed to be fixed with day 1 patch too I think, but... I mean, there are so many things that need to be fixed that I don't expect to be satisfied even after the patch.
I've never been this unenthusiastic about a FIFA release.

No, that's still in. I'm talking about being able to import your own custom music and chants. I think that went away with last-gen.
Did they fix the time expiring thing in the last couple years? Or is this just a PS4 thing? I remember on the xbox one a couple years back you could leave the game running and you could play well past the 10 hours, you just couldn't start it up again once it was closed past the 10 hours. But the PS4 just shut the game off when I hit 10 hours. I was in the middle of a volta match and the game just closed.

I don’t believe them. It was in the Pitch Notes that it had ALREADY been fixed.
High scoring track meets with not much defense.
3 games 10 minute halves on world class and I haven't seen a foul yet. No joke. I'm sure others are having varied results but I would have a hard time believing anyone thinks its even close to good enough.
Neither game seems at all interested in making a realistic foul system and as its a big deal to me I'm stuck without a real great footy option.
There is a fun game here though, its just extremely arcadey. I don't think i'd pay $80 Canadian for it but with Origin Premier I'll get some use out of it.
Another year where 100% of the beta feedback and bugs reported are completely ignored. Happens year after year. I don't know why they even put the effort into making a beta with how little they care about the bug feedback. Fifa is a yearly disappointment.
I always love FIFA! Mad fer it! Can’t wait until Friday when I can play. PES is always a major disappointment

    Question .
When playing in a season, can my buddy play as the opposition?
I know in NHL this wasn’t possible. Could only play against the cpu.
Well, it's safe to say the post match press conferences need a little work (understatement of the year.)
Two games in a row the final score was 3-3. What am I asked in both press conferences ,"scoring on both sides wasn't there. What can you attribute that to?"
That wasn't the exact question, but it was close.
I've posted in this thread about my board lowering my score because players that were leaving kept getting angry for lack of minutes.
I started a new career, and day one I listed all players with 10-12 months left on their contract. Some are locked up in January, and the leftovers still complain, but it didn't seem to hurt me.
There needs to be an option to tell the player, "Look bro, we aren't resigning you after the season. If you want to leave before then, call your agent."
It's common place in sports to let players contracts expire. Until the option gets in the game, list everyone July 1st and it may not get you fired.
I was excited to get this game but the more I play it the less I enjoy it. It’s 100% down to the defending. I am an online only player. So I’m speaking from that perspective. 1 vs 1 online sucks pretty badly. The defending is extremely bad as far as pressuring the hall is concerned. If you go up by a goal and wanted to be a dick by holding the ball the rest of the game, it would be entirely possible. If you play co-op it is a completely different game. It’s 100% better.
Here we go again. Every year and come on here and say that fifa is a mess. Every year the gameplay gets more scripted, more messed. It gets worse.
For once i would like to say its a great game. Sadly thats impossible, given Ea absolute refusal to fix the game breaking coding errors that they absolutely know is there
Thankfully i am on pc and can mod the game. i can fix the scripting(most of it) coding errors and ludicrous cpu team selections and league positions.
These are my initial observations. Sadly this years problems go deeper than basic coding errors as there are severe probs with the shooting, heading and save animations. I doubt these can be modded out.
It took me over six months to get 19 right and when i did the game was fabulous on ultimate.
played f20 in CM for first time today. As mentioned in many places, CM has some significant issues.
With my sliders I love the gameplay, even more realistic than PES, I own PES too. What though makes FIFA unplayable for me, I hope only for now until it gets fixed, is how passive defenses are, included mine like if they don't care and prefer watching the game. In this way I can score many goals and I also concede many. That's not fun, I cannot control everybody.
I played one game, Real vs Atletico, and loved it. Obviously not enough time to make any conclusions but I was expecting a horror show considering the early impressions.

Was a big day one patched released today?

This is what Corey said on Twitter, so unfortunately, no.
"Being that Career Mode is client-based (offline), we need to patch. Patches take time as fixes have to be identified, fixed, tested and then certified by first-party. Our first patch is on the way and locked, so likely we’ve missed the ability to put CM fixes in that patch."

    How embarrassing. I love it.
And they don't know when CM will be fixed, only that it won't be fixed with the next patch. In fact the only reason they said anything at all is because it's trending. That's like saying "yeah we know guys, so stop it because it's trending and that's negative publicity".
despite CM being a mess, FUT is good. very, very good.
fouls and cards are there on full effect. game speed is just about perfect. physicality matters. strong, but slow defenders can backtrack back & bully and muscle and hold off speedy attackers.
I dived in with Oriol, studs up, in the 20th minute and got an instant red. I was kinda stunned. lol ... lots of yellow cards too.
attributes have a profound effect on gameplay. more so than in any year i've played.
passing matters, crossing matters, strength, agility, shooting. you can tell when you have a class player under control.
but FUT is always excellent for the first month. after that the pay to play stooges just smother the interest out of the game with their thousands spent super squads.
EA really needs to implement levels of FUT. I'd be more than happy to play an entire year of a silver or bronze FUT league, where the player's abilities are closer together, which would eliminate the pay to play thing.
but an all bronze or silver league, would almost certainly ruin ea's profits. so they'll keep milking the current format until peeps stop spending 10's of millions every year.

I checked and the rosters are not updated.
This has always been an issue, but with morale being tossed in, it really stinks, and that's players constantly asking for play time.
If they are going to have messages and reply options, they need to put one in that tells the player to chill out. Like, "your time will come, just be patient."
Or, "if the game actually allowed me to loan youth squad produced players, I would loan you."
    FluffyTonka

Play Division Rivals. You get placed in a division based on your performance.
Is it just me, or is Volta gameplay just boring?
I was assuming this would be like FIFA Street, with all sorts of match modes, crazy moves, and a fun presentation, but this is pretty underwhelming and flat.
So, somehow FIFA now has the PES issue with the CPU not approaching you if you stand with the ball at your feet after a kickoff. Happened multiple times in a match I just played on Top Player. Could have just run the clock out
Here's the latest official news from EA:
    https://fifaforums.easports.com/en/discussion/499572/fifa-20-launch-developer-q-a/p1?new=1
Looks like an even bigger mess when you put all out there.
One really distressing part for me is this bit. To me it seems like the second issue is caused by the first issue which is pretty simple to figure out if you look at the stats. The best XI isn't getting picked by any AI controlled team whether its a game your involved in or not. Fix the line up issue (that was said to be fixed in a patch note from early august mind you) and then the top teams being relegated goes away.

CPU defense too passive, man. It's like they programmed the game without even thinking about offline user-vs-CPU players. How much testing was done?
So I bought the game yesterday and played it for the rest of the night, and a good portion of today. Here are my Pros/ Cons.
    Pros:
-The game plays slower, and more realistically. Basically every game hasn't become a counter-attacking track meet like most FIFA's yet, but this will probably change after a couple of patches
-The Romanian League is in the game and I didn't know they would be until I bought it
    Cons:
-Career Mode is supposedly broken (I started one I won't care too much about in case something goes wrong). However so far the only issue I've seen is the standings being messed up
-The defense and the midfield don't defend as a unit so only your controlled player actually does anything as the rest of your players float out of position often resulting in a scoring chance. Fantastic goaltending has kept me in games so far
-Scripting is still in the game, and it behaves a bit differently than FIFA 19. Last year's game the momentum changes after 20 minutes and stays the same way for the rest of the game. This year it changes more often and more dramatically which is why I think people are getting a lot of high scoring games
    -The rosters aren't updated
-The ratings seem very similar to last years so players who have improved a lot didn't get ratings bumps, and players who have declined didn't get a ratings reduction
-Dynamic potential in Career Mode only affects your club. If that's true than what's the point? Basically it means they barely changed anything
-There is more, but I can't think of them right now
Overall I would give it a D-. I still like the game, but it's safe to say the EA team dropped the ball on this game. As a Career Mode fan I'm not surprised anymore when they ignore the mode, or the new features don't work but releasing the game with outdated rosters when the transfer window closed almost a month ago is inexcusable! At most jobs you would be fired for that level of incompetence! I highly doubt they actually test the game anymore because any mildly experienced FIFA player can point out these issues very quickly. Essentially its unacceptable to sell the consumer and loyal customers a broken game and then charge us $80 to buy it.
Arcady game up and down fast paced high scoring mess with rosters not even updated , which is UNACCEPTABLE !! I didnt buy fifa and i wont because a company that grosses hundreds of millions should at least update the rosters and cater to offline user as well and not completely disrespect them by givjng them the same career mode every year but this year with bugs..ea will not con me for 70 euros ! I refuse ..we should revolt and boycott if it was up to me .
I forgot to mention earlier that its almost impossible to clear the ball in front of your goal. Somehow its worse than last year. Combine this with the fact that your keeper seems to never catch the ball on crosses into the box by always punching it away, often still in a dangerous area. This a frustrating combination.
Penalties and free kicks are ridiculously hard this year. No reason to change penalties from FIFA 19, but free kicks needed improvement but this is much worse.
Also I've maybe had one good header in 3 days of playing.
But hey, the presentation and crowd chants are nice lol!

I forgot to mention earlier that its almost impossible to clear the ball in front of your goal. Somehow its worse than last year. Combine this with the fact that your keeper seems to never catch the ball on crosses into the box by always punching it away, often still in a dangerous area. This a frustrating combination.

Ugh, the dreaded goalie ball swat. It drives me insane.
The AI defense is terrible in the defensive 3rd. Players (in real life) don't leave ST wide open in the 18. If they do, it's once in a blue moon. What makes that worse is the GK ball slap. I can't count how many times I've been scored on either by a cross from a wing, to a wide open ST, or a cross from a wing, GK bats the ball and the wide open ST taps it in.
Everything falls apart when you move from the midfield 3rd to the defensive 3rd. As soon as that happens, outside backs almost become CB, the ball is played to the wing, you control the outside back/Sprint after the wing, he crosses the ball into the middle where you switch control to the CB, who then has to turn around and try to stop the wide open ST.
I get they want the player to rely on their FIFA skills to defend, but we players rely on EA to put the AI teammates in a reasonably good position for a when we switch control to another player.

Bwwahahahahahah...you watch Man U? We've been doing this for 7 years! Unfortunately the devs are mostly MUFC fans as they've adopted this game perfectly to the Man U model. Its all about money and ignore what's on the pitch. No proof here, but I'm sure the Glazers must own EA!

Arcady game up and down fast paced high scoring mess with rosters not even updated

Fast paced? Game is slower than ever now, it's actually a pretty good pace speed this time. Too bad the poor quality of the game overwhelmes the positives.

This game is a disaster this year. So glad I did the trial and didn't just buy it outright like in year's past.

Same, I regret even bothering with FIFA 19, that was some of the worst experience I've had with FIFA and I'm not even going near FIFA 20 after the demo and 10 hr trial.
I read the official EA FIFA forums, many FUT players are happy with the game. But non-FUT players are very unhappy. EA knows who to target.
Is there a way to play an EPL (or other league) season without using the CFM? I really don't want to deal with all of the morale nonsense.
I have seen folks refer to something called 'season tournament mode' which sounds like what I want but I'm not really sure what that's all about.
    Thanks.

Yrs, you can create a Tournament and choose the Premier League to play. It also allow to play a very fun Premier League mode choosing ALL the teams you can play all the games of the season controlling one team or another. There are some folks here that plays that way every year.

Yep, just play a custom tournament and choose the EPL (or whatever).

So a Modder has literaly fixed CM on PC already but EA needs time to look into the issues and can't give an ETA. I don't know how but there has to be a way to force EA's hand. :brickwall

Offline modes are way at the bottom of their list of priorities. They would rather spend time designing new pyro effects for pack openings. They will edit gameplay, but that's only because it affects people playing online.
Even when speaking with our wallets about the lack of effort put into career mode (and pro clubs), it won't be enough over the amount of people buying the game for FUT no matter how bad the game is. They could even release Atari ET football with ultimate team and still make millions.

One more question on this. Is there such a thing as 'practice injuries' in the mode? I like to turn injuries off but a can remember times in a career mode where guys would get injured when advancing the calendar to your next game day.
Any of this in custom tournemants when injuries are holistically turned off?

It's been a while and I don't remember for sure, but I think there might be fatigue between games but that's it. Def no training injuries, because there's no training. All you do is go from game to game.
You could also just turn the injury slider to 0, though I'm not sure how that slider works with tournament mode.
Honestly i'm really only interested in Volta and playing indoor/futsol with this. I'm assuming that would be a waste of $60 to mainly just play that, maybe a little of Career Mode.
    Thoughts on the Volta mode?

In my opinion, Volt is fun, but got boring in about 2 days. The story that goes with it, is silly, and its only purpose is to have locations around the world blocked off until you win enough games to move on.
This years FIFA has pushed me to the point where I won't ever buy it until I know how it turned out. I only play career mode. It launched broken, and still is for the most part. I played Volta, because, why not; career mode is broken.
If you are going to spend $60.00 on Volta and broken career mode, my advice is don't do it.
I've played this and PES for years and usually end up playing Fifa more but I just can't enjoy it this year. Several things just seem off this year.
The graphics to me just aren't good. They seem washed out with a filter and don't look detalied at all when playing. Closeup shots look OK. I plugged 19 in and it looked fine so maybe this was a conscious decision. Just isn't my cup of tea.
The feel of the players seems off. Their response to controller input seems fine but they feel "too light" like they're not grounded if that makes sense....no feel of momentum or weight, almost like controlling a paper cut out. Zzz's
Some animations look really good and others look really strange. I can't remember Fifa looking and feeling this out of whack. It looks like they added a lot more animations this year than normal so they might just need time to smooth things out.
I feel like they tried some different things this year with the added animations and player ratings overhaul. I like that they gave some players really high acceleration ratings, etc. There seems to be a bigger disparity which is good. They just need to gets those things to translate on the pitch in a smoother manner. It would be nice if they could add weight to the players. I think that could help the look and feel of player control.
I won't get into the defending since that's been covered by others, but again I think the fact that players don't have weight causes some problems in this area as well in addition to the new play mechanics implemented.
I've always liked the fact that Fifa tries to showcase skill moves that players use. They go a little overboard with their effectiveness whereas PES has a bunch of ratings and skills that are useless on the higher difficulty levels so why even have them.

This games been $40 already on amazon for the last 2 weeks.
I’m tempted at that price but every time I play (ea access trial 3 hours left) and try really hard to find a reason to buy this game I can’t. There’s nothing appealing this year for me. Other than no single player fut progression I use to play other modes or just play now. Doesn’t appeal to me this year. Something is just off about 20.
I agree about voltA - gets boring fast.
Any reason you guys can think of for buying this game at $40?????? I don’t play online.

Perfect! Summed up everything I feel exactly about 20. I play 19 and the graphics are so much better than 20. 20 does have a washed out look.
I’m waiting in a price drop for pes. Will like to try it.

Get what you're saying about giving weight to the players.....however, the only way to do that is to make the players less responsive to your user input and this goes against what all FUT players want. PES has plenty of weight on its gameplay due to that fact, the game is less responsive....it can at times feel like you're driving a semi trailer when controlling the players. Unfortunately, fifa is dictated by FUT players and if you made the game less responsive, they'd be whining non stop....fifa will remain feeling lightweight
A few American stores have the game for $30 as a Black Friday special (and $27 at Walmart and Amazon) plus I had a $15 gift card from some other larger purchase I made so I could argue I paid $15 for FIFA 20.
For $15, it's worth it. Granted I've only put in about 3 hours so far and I see what frustrates people with defending but I've actually come to like it. Yes, I've had the moments where I'm like "dude, why are you just standing there?!!!" but I've had moments where there's been an enjoyable 1v1 situation that the developers intended. Maybe it's my play style, idk but I'm actually enjoying the game as is, so far.
I like the graphics, though I've noticed a few glitch-y moments. Some momentary warping, for example.
Can't say much that hasn't been said about licensing, etc.
I plan on trying some slider sets over the weekend to see if I can get things even more to my liking. Probably start one of the in game tourneys.
I can overlook many of the games problems but the lack of fouls kills the immersion for me. With all the sliders in the game why not include a foul likelyhood slider. Madden has it, the nba games have it and so does nhl.
