With the Kansas City Chiefs failing to reach the playoffs this year, Caitlin Clark has found herself in unfamiliar territory as an NFL fan. A lifelong Chiefs supporter, the Indiana Fever star admitted she’s been forced to look elsewhere for a team to back this postseason, and she’s already narrowed down her options.
Clark appeared this week on the New Heights podcast alongside Jason and Travis Kelce, where the conversation naturally drifted toward football allegiances. With the Chiefs out of the picture, Clark revealed which teams have caught her eye and why she’s enjoying watching the playoffs from a different perspective this time around.
According to Outkick, Clark made it clear that one player in particular has won her over: New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye. The WNBA sensation praised the young signal-caller’s performances and said she’s been genuinely impressed with what she’s seen so far.
Clark made it clear which team she absolutely won’t support
“Honestly, I’m a Drake Maye fan; I think he’s been incredible,” Clark said. “I’ll probably be pulling for the Patriots, but I think the Rams are good, too.”
While the Patriots appear to be her leading choice, Clark also admitted she wouldn’t mind seeing the Los Angeles Rams make a deep run, highlighting them as another team she enjoys watching. She even took a moment to give a nod to Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold, describing him as “a good guy” and someone she’d be happy to support as well.
When Travis Kelce said she could cheer for almost any team left in the playoffs, Clark disagreed right away. She made it clear there are some teams she just can’t root for.
And she didn’t hold back when naming which team that was. Clark said she hates the Bills. Athletes are known for taking ruthless shots at their rivals, and Clark’s comment was no different.
Her choice to support the Patriots makes sense. New England has been one of the biggest surprise stories in the NFL this season under head coach Mike Vrabel.
Just last year, the Patriots finished with a terrible 4-13 record and came in last place in the AFC East. But this season, everything changed. Sports icons like Clark and other celebrities reaching career milestones often make headlines for their team preferences.
Now the Patriots are leading the division as AFC East champions. They have a 13-3 record, which ties them for the best in the entire league. The main reason for this huge turnaround is 23-year-old quarterback Drake Maye, whose quick improvement has made New England a real Super Bowl threat.
